James Lee Davis

James Lee Davis, 54, of Duluth died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

He was born in Sturgis, S.D., on April 30, 1946, to Charles and Leona (Edlund) Davis. James attended Votec Welding School. Mr. Davis was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and served a total of 12 years in the military. On Sept. 19, 1970, he married Patricia Snow. He was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jay Dee Davis.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Patricia; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial service to be held in the spring. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth.

Mildred "Millie" Strom

Mildred "Millie" Strom, 75, of Proctor was tragically taken from her family Saturday, March 10, 2001.

Millie was born in Duluth Sept. 1, 1925, to Louis and Ann (Johnson) Ferrario. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1943. She married Robert W. Strom in Proctor on May 27, 1944. She worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway during World War II, and St. Luke's Hospital and Nopeming Nursing Home as a dietary aide.

She had been involved with Youth Fellowship in Forbes United Methodist Church for several years. She was a former member of the Proctor Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary and a member of a birthday club. Millie loved to read and go on morning walks. She also loved flower gardening and walking on Ormund Beach in Florida. Millie was very health conscious and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Strom Jr.; her parents; and brothers Richard and Robert.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Sr.; a daughter, Susan (Brian) Reppe of Duluth; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Strom of Saginaw; a sister, Irene Ferrario of Duluth; grandchildren Brent, Terri Jo and Dawn Reppe, Rob Strom III, and Andrea (Allan) Kelly; great-grandchildren Bryce Kelly, Jesse Matthews, and Savanna and Nicholas Reppe; a niece, Rene (Kevin) Bergman of Bloomington, Minn.; grandnephews Brian, Carl, Craig and Adam Bergman; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Scrappy.

In memory of Millie, coffee will be served from 8 until 11 a.m. Wednesday in Black Woods Grill, Proctor. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funeral Homes, Lenroot Chapel, 2231 W. Third St.

Irene C. Tahtinen

Irene C. Tahtinen, 83, of Duluth died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Lakeshore Lutheran Home.

She was born Nov. 25, 1917, to Christian and Karen Langseth. She graduated from Denfeld High School. She worked for Diamond Tool in production, Garon's Knitting Mill, Cook Home Laundry and retired from there in 1983. She married Martin Tahtinen Dec. 1, 1951.

Irene was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Degree of Honor Society. She participated in two cancer research studies to help find a cure for others. She loved visits with her family, spending time at the cabin on Stone Lake and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin in 1981; her parents; and a sister, Margaret (Lester) Erickson.

Irene is survived by a son, Jeff (Anne) of Duluth; a daughter, Karen (Joseph) Houle of Duluth; grandchildren Jason Houle, Melissa (Andy) Ramsey, Melanie Houle, Katie Tahtinen and Eric Tahtinen; a great-granddaughter, Mandilin Ramsey; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She will always be remembered for her generosity and thoughtfulness for others.

Memorial gathering: noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor John Reppe and Pastor James Nelson officiating. Spring interment in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.

Ina E. Larson

Ina E. Larson, 92, formerly of Munger Shaw Road died Monday, March 12, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Vasternorrlands, Sweden, to Erick and Freda (Wiklund) Lundgren. She came to the United States in 1911 and had lived in Munger since 1918. She married Gust M. Larson Sept. 3, 1927.

Ina was a homemaker and had owned and operated Munger Fairway Store with her husband. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Munger and Munger Senior Citizens. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, stamp collecting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gust in 1982; and sons Leonard and Ralph.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan (Robert) Miller of Superior; a brother, Robert (Jeanne) Lundgren of Duluth; grandchildren Sandy (Dale) Sawyer of Duluth, Brett (Marcy) Barby of Proctor and Gary (Denise) Barby of Cold Spring, Minn.; great-grandchildren Jesse, Jamie, Corey, Casey, Codey, Ben and Alexandra; and nieces and nephews David Lundgren, Robert (Linda) Lundgren, Terry (Shan) Lundgren, Wally (Bernice) Larson, June (Ronald) Anderson, Ray (Royce) Larson, David (Dianna) Larson and Carol Larson.

Ina's family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Nopeming Care Center for their care, compassion and friendship during the past two years while Ina was a resident.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday in Hope Lutheran Church, 4093 Munger Shaw Road, Munger. The Rev. Walter Lehenbauer officiating. Inurnment in Solway cemetery. Patricia McDevitt Cosgriff

Patricia McDevitt Cosgriff, 81, of Midtown Manor died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in her daughter's home.

Memorial service: 3 p.m. Saturday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. A full obituary will be in Wednesday's paper. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

Joseph Edward Ossowski

Joseph Edward Ossowski, 46, of St. Louis Avenue died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health-care facility.

Joseph was born in Rhinelander, Wis., lived in California and has lived in Duluth since 1991.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas William; and a sister, Judith Marie Eldred.

He is survived by his parents, John William and Helen Marie of Duluth; brothers Michael (Linda) of Coolidge, Ariz., Frank of Denver, and Kelley (Jean) of Sturgeon Lake; sisters Jeanette Nygard of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Cynthia Diaz of Andover, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph's family would like to thank the staff of Waters of Park Point health-care facility for the loving care they gave him.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday in the Waters of Park Point Chapel. Inurnment in Calvary cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Joseph Israel Renaud

Joseph Israel Renaud, 97, of St. Ann's Residence died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Bathgate, Neche Pembino County, N.D., on Nov. 15, 1903, to Israel and Marguerite (Auger) Renaud. A Proctor resident since 1907, he has worked as a carman for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for 46 years, retiring in 1968.

Mr. Renaud was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus 5142, a former member of the Carmen's Union and the DM&IR; Veterans Employees Association. He was also an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; three sisters; and his wife, Mina (Hendrickson) Renaud on Jan. 30, 1989.

He is survived by brothers O. George (Iris) of Hermantown, and Alphonse (Pina) of San Antonio, Texas; sisters Lorraine Graves and Rose Anderson, both of Proctor; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with 6 p.m. prayers in Bell Brothers Chapel. Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor. Burial in Calvary cemetery, Duluth. Memorials to St. Rose Catholic Church would be appreciated. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Linnea S. Honkola Aho

Linnea S. Honkola Aho, 82, of Virginia died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 5, 1918, to Matt and Hilma (Kukko) Martilla in Embarrass. She grew up and attended school in Embarrass. In 1936, she was united in marriage to her first husband, John Honkola until his death. In 1960, her family moved to Virginia. In 1963, she met Walter Aho. The couple was united in marriage March 31, 1979, in Virginia. Linnea was a member of Virginia Area Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linnea was preceded in death by her first husband, John Honkola; two infant children; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; brothers Parttyli "Pat" and Wilho Martilla; a sister, Elsie Turnberg; and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; sons Howard (Mary) Honkola of Embarrass, Harold (Judy) Honkola of Lake Vermilion, Minn., Rodney (fiancee Heidi Mutka) and Pat (Rita) and Keven Honkola, all of Embarrass; daughters Patty (Bruce) Crunkilton of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Heidi Honkola of Embarrass; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mary Hill and Helmi Martilla, both of Embarrass; and a large circle of friends.

Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in Range Funeral Home, Virginia. Pastor LeRoy Holmes officiating. Burial in Embarrass cemetery.

Alice M. (Foreman) Wakeman

Alice M. (Foreman) Wakeman, 91, of Apple Valley, Minn., died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.

She was born Oct. 21, 1909. She graduated from Denfeld High School. She raised a family in Morgan Park and Richfield, Minn. Her retirement years were spent between Berger Lake and Florida. Alice had lived the past 11 years in Apple Valley Villa in Apple Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Foreman and Dallas Wakeman.

Alice is survived by her sons, David (Kathy) of Rochester, Minn., and William Jr. (Joanne) Foreman of Duluth; a stepdaughter, Merry Dolter, of Euclid, Ohio; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday in Apple Valley Villa, 14610 Garrett Ave. South, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Arrangements by Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, Apple Valley Chapel.

Eleanor Marie Dulinski Abrahamson

Eleanor Marie Dulinski Abrahamson, 75, of Keystone Bluffs, formerly of Ugstad Road, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, with her family and friends gathered around her in Miller-Dwan Hospital.

Eleanor was born April 22, 1925, and had been a lifelong Duluth resident. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights, Hermantown AARP, former treasurer for many years of Skyline Skylark Bowling League and a member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 137. She enjoyed baking, crafts and family get-togethers, especially laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Helen Dulinski; brothers Leonard and Charles; and a sister, Mildred LaFlair.

Eleanor will be sadly missed by her family: her husband, Elwood, a daughter, Arlene (William) Rohlf, and a brother, George (Charlene), all of Duluth; sisters Irene Yutrzenka of Argyle, Minn., and Dorothy Pecore and Patricia (Thomas) Werner, both of Duluth; and a granddaughter, Heather (James) Burbul of Duluth.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. Memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights.

Ingrid J. Olson

Ingrid J. Olson, 84, formerly of Leonard Street and Sun City, Ariz., died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Mt. Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis.

Ingrid was born in Eksharad, Varmland, Sweden, to Lars Gustav and Carin (Persson) Larson. She lived in Duluth from 1923 to 1945. She then moved to Fargo, N.D., where she lived until her return to Duluth in 1972. For the past eight years, she lived in Minneapolis. While living in Fargo, she worked for Sears Roebuck for 22 years, retiring in 1975 as division manager of catalog sales.

She was a member of Forbes United Methodist Church in Proctor. In Fargo, she was a 4-H leader and the Kappa Alpha Theta Mother's Club president. She was a member of Eastern Star, Elkettes, Moorhead Country Club and the Covenant Church.

In her youth, she was the South St. Louis County Potato Queen, 4-H leader, and winner of multiple trips to the Minnesota State Fair as a 4-H exhibitor and demonstrator. She was selected to represent Minnesota and demonstrate cheese making with her sister, Gunhild Larson Anderson, at the St. Louis and Missouri Fair. Ingrid also attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus.

In Duluth, she was the Telecare/Friends team captain for CHUM, co-chairwoman of the mission commission, administrative council and annual conference representative, and Jackson Community Club secretary. She volunteered at the Proctor Food Shelf, St Mary's Hospital and the Depot. She was a member of the Greyhound Drivers Retiree Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, in 1984 and her sister, Gunhild Anderson.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol R. (Lloyd) Larsen of Edina, Minn.; grandchildren Lloyd R. (Cari) Larsen Jr. of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Cory Larsen (Timothy) Bettenga of Edina, and Craig Steven (Millie) Larsen of Minneapolis; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Bell Brothers Chapel. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forbes United Methodist Church, Proctor. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.
