Bennett Isaac Moyle
Bennett Isaac Moyle, 55, of Edina, Minn, , who grew up in Duluth, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in a private airplane crash in Oshkosh, Wis.
Ben was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1946, the son of Bennett Oliver and Mary Alice Moyle of Duluth. He lived in Duluth in his youth. He attended St. John's Elementary School in Woodland and Duluth Cathedral High School, and he graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with degrees in mathematics and political science and a minor in computer science in 1968.

He worked first for the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis as the system-programming manager. In 1978, he formed his own consulting firm, B I Moyle Associates, Inc., specializing in systems software for IBM mainframe computers. The company is well known simply as "BIM" in the industry. His original firm grew to employ several highly skilled professionals performing mainframe systems consulting services and systems software, for corporate and government clients worldwide. In addition, he acquired several other related firms. His company, headquartered in Edina, has field offices in Virginia, Ohio and California, with representatives in 25 foreign countries.

Ben had lectured at the University of Minnesota on some specialized technical topics. He wrote numerous articles for technical journals, including Computerworld and Enterprise Systems Journal. He was president of the Minnesota Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association, served on the National Board of Directors and was honored with a lifetime membership. Ben was a speaker at GUIDE and WAVV (IBM User Groups) sessions, and was involved as an active member of the Minnesota VSE Users Group, making many presentations over the years.

His lifelong interest in flying led him to invest in several aviation companies, including Cirrus Aviation of Duluth, along with numerous other business ventures. He was also president of Minnetonka Chapter 178 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and an active member of the Aviation Safety Interest Group and the Glasair Society.

He also donated time and money to several charities. The only regret he ever expressed about his life was failing to qualify for the Peace Corps because of respiratory problems.

Ben is survived by his beloved 30-year companion, Marilyn Meyer of Minneapolis; parents Bennett O and Mary Alice of Duluth; brothers Mike (Sherri) of Duluth, Jim (Mary) of Forest Lake, Minn., Bob of Maple Grove, Minn., and John (Barb) of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Ellen (Gerard) Myers of Phoenix; and eight nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him and his airplane dearly.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Valley View Road and Gleason Street, Edina. Interment in family ancestral site in Yorkville, Wis., at a later date.

Gustav Adolph Rakowsky Jr.
Gustav Adolph Rakowsky Jr., 94, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 7, 1906, in Duluth to Gustav and Anna Rakowsky, Gus worked for the Duluth Board of Education until World War II.

During the war years, he worked at Barnes Shipyards. After the war, he founded Highland Sheet Metal and Heating Co. in Duluth Heights.

He married Madlyn Mantell in 1928 and she preceded him in death in 1993.

Gus had been a 58-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, Trinity Lodge 282 since 1943.

He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and fishing at Shallow Lake in Warba, Minn., with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Gus was preceded in death by his brother, William, and sisters Mayme Powers and Maybelle Carlson.

He is survived by sons Donald (Nancy) of Sarasota, Fla., Robert (Jeannine) of Duluth; daughters Ann Rinehart (Art) of Westminster, Colo., and Alice Perry (Paul) of Richfield, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caregivers on Spruce Lane, Chris Jensen Nursing Home for their patience and loving care of our father and grandfather.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., the Rev. John Sippola officiating.

Private burial of the cremated remains in Forest Hill cemetery.

Elaine L. "Toots" Kitzman (nee Haggerty), 93, formerly of Duluth passed away Friday, July 27, 2001, in Milwaukee.
Elaine was a retiree of the Duluth Clinic.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William C. "Chet" Kitzman; a sister, Dorothy "Tot" Buchanan; and a brother, Arnold "Hank" Haggerty.

She was the devoted mother of Ted (Sandy) Kitzman of Clearwater, Fla., Ramona (Wayne) Raddeman of Milwaukee, and Raymond (Wanda) Kitzman of St. Paul Park, Minn.; special "mom" to niece, Nancy (John) Fellbaum; also survived by nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

"You have found peace, Mom. we will miss you." Private service to be held in the John J. Walloch Funeral Home, Milwaukee, (414) 281-7145.

Robert R. Lunde
Robert R. Lunde, 66, of Silver Bay, formerly of Duluth passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital.
He was born in Duluth and graduated from high school here. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. Robert worked for Lakehead Constructors Inc. for several years.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Lunde; and brothers Gary and Gilean.

He is survived by brothers Duane and Dale Lunde, both of Duluth; children Marietta Lunde of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Jenifer (Kelley) Elder of Puducah, Ky., Wade Lunde of Sandstone, Robin (Terry) Lillo of Duluth, Tammy (Tim) Lillo of Hermantown, Holly Lunde (Randy) of Medford, Wis., Dawn (Jamie) Pearson of Spirit Lake; numerous grandchildren;, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Private services at a later date. Arrangements by Crawford Funeral Service.

Susan M. Szeveczyk
Susan M. Szeveczyk, 51, of Grand Forks, N.D., died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Susan Marie Albertson was born Sept. 23, 1949, to Gordon and Ethel (Nolan) Albertson in Duluth. She grew up and attended school in Proctor, graduating from Proctor High School. She married William Szeveczyk May 2, 1979, in Duluth. She operated Susie's Country Crafts. The couple had lived in Grand Forks since 1984.

Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Szeveczyk, and a daughter, Brenda (James) Gallagher, all of Grand Forks; a son, Brian Albertson; two granddaughters; a brother, Larry Albertson of Duluth; and a sister, Judy (Bob) Woods of Newport, Minn.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in Bible Baptist Church, Grand Forks. Interment in Sunnywood Gardens cemetery, Grand Forks.

Maryann M. Patullo
Maryann M. Patullo, 45, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Duluth passed away Friday, July 27, 2001, in Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, Minn.
She graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School. She was a senior administrative assistant for Voyageur Asset Management in Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Lorraine Patullo; a sister, Paulette; and a brother, Tom.

She is survived by brothers Bradley (Christina) of St. Louis, Mo., and Scott (Susan) of Hermantown; a sister-in-law, Lori Patullo of Ramsey, Minn., a niece, seven nephews; two grandnephews; special friend, Pat Champ; and her beloved cat, Murphy.
Visitation: noon until the 2 p.m. memorial service today in St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, Minn. Burial will be in Oneota cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel.

William Jon Erickson
William Jon Erickson, 43, of New London, Minn., died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home in rural New London.
He was born Aug. 26, 1957, in Gulfport, Miss., the son of William Allan and JoAnn Darlene (Ronding) Erickson. Bill was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Hillside Methodist Church. He grew up in Hermantown, where he attended grade school and high school, graduating in the class of 1975. After his graduation he lived in Duluth until 1979.

On May 9, 1981, Bill was united in marriage to RaiAnn May Seeley in Pike Lake. To this union three daughters were born. They made their home in Alliance, Neb., until 1997, when they moved to the New London area. Bill worked for BNSF Railroad as an engineer for 21 years. Together Bill and RaiAnn were able to share 20 years of marriage.

Bill was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Willmar.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Tanya, and his grandparents.

Bill is survived by his wife, RaiAnn of New London; daughters Christine (Mike) Wiegand of Crawford, Neb., and Amanda Erickson and Kimberly Erickson, both at home; his parents, William and JoAnn Erickson of Waskish; brothers Kevin Erickson and Glenn Erickson, both of Duluth; and a sister, Twila (Bob) Uotinen of Superior.
Mass of Christian burial at noon Monday in Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Spicer.

Marianne E. Justmann
Marianne E. Justmann, 58, of Killeen, Texas, died Friday, May 4, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 5, 1943, in Minneapolis to the late Clarence and Phoebe Bishop. She grew up and attended school in Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Bishop.

Survivors include sons Michael (Anji) Justmann of Killeen and Andrew (Marilyn) Justmann of Alexandria, Va.; daughters Patricia Justmann of Woodbridge, Va., and Nancy Justmann of Phoenix; brothers Jack (Emma Rose) Bishop of Saginaw and William (Sandy) Bishop of Lakeland, Minn.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in Twig Town Hall. Burial in Park Hill cemetery.
