Mildred M. Pederson
Mildred M. Pederson, 92, formerly of Farley Lane died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Benedictine Health Center.

She was born in Duluth on July 14, 1909, to Louis and Charlotte Julien. She was a Central High School graduate. On Oct. 5, 1931, she married Paul Pederson in Duluth, and together they raised two children.

Mildred was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. In more recent years, Mildred attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mildred was a resident at Aftenro from August 1995 until moving to the Benedictine Health Center in August 2000. Mildred spent many of her quiet hours knitting and crocheting. She was most satisfied when she could provide happiness to others, and her desire was for all her family to grow in their personal walk with the Lord Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in 1991; brothers the Rev. Walter Julien, Harold Julien and George Julien; and a sister, Ruth Sandberg.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Robert) Schwartz of Duluth; a son, Ronald (Joanne) Pederson of Plymouth, Minn.; a brother, Donald (Joan) Julien of Las Vegas; a sister, Beatrice Kasell of Duluth; grandchildren Bob (Lisa) Schwartz of Glennallen, Alaska, Barbara (Tim) Stevenson of Grants Pass, Ore., Jeff Schwartz of Milaca, Minn., Linda Pederson and Julie Pederson, both of Plymouth, and Greg Pederson of Arlington, Va.; great-grandsons Dane, Ryan and Soren Stevenson and David Schwartz; and many dear nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Mildred's caregivers at Aftenro and Benedictine Health Center for the kind and loving care she received during her time there.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Dougherty Funeral Home and continuing from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Emmanuel Baptist Church. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth.

Bennett Isaac Moyle
Bennett Isaac Moyle, 55, of Edina, Minn., who grew up in Duluth, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in a private airplane crash in Oshkosh, Wis.
Ben was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1946, the son of Bennett Oliver and Mary Alice Moyle of Duluth. He lived in Duluth in his youth. He attended St. John's Elementary School in Woodland and Duluth Cathedral High School, and he graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with degrees in mathematics and political science and a minor in computer science in 1968.

He worked first for the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis as the system-programming manager. In 1978, he formed his own consulting firm, B I Moyle Associates, Inc., specializing in systems software for IBM mainframe computers. The company is well-known simply as "BIM" in the industry. His original firm grew to employ several highly skilled professionals performing mainframe systems consulting services and systems software for corporate and government clients worldwide. In addition, he acquired several other related firms. His company, headquartered in Edina, has field offices in Virginia, Ohio and California, with representatives in 25 foreign countries.

Ben had lectured at the University of Minnesota on some specialized technical topics. He wrote numerous articles for technical journals, including Computerworld and Enterprise Systems Journal. He was president of the Minnesota Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association, served on the National Board of Directors and was honored with a lifetime membership. Ben was a speaker at GUIDE and WAVV (IBM user groups) sessions, and was involved as an active member of the Minnesota VSE Users Group, making many presentations over the years.

His lifelong interest in flying led him to invest in several aviation companies, including Cirrus Aviation of Duluth, along with numerous other business ventures. He was also president of Minnetonka Chapter 178 of the Experimental Aircraft Association and an active member of the Aviation Safety Interest Group and the Glasair Society.

He also donated time and money to several charities. The only regret he ever expressed about his life was failing to qualify for the Peace Corps because of respiratory problems.

Ben is survived by his beloved 30-year companion, Marilyn Meyer of Minneapolis; parents Bennett O and Mary Alice of Duluth; brothers Mike (Sherri) of Duluth, Jim (Mary) of Forest Lake, Minn., Bob of Maple Grove, Minn., and John (Barb) of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Ellen (Gerard) Myers of Phoenix; and eight nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him and his airplane dearly.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Valley View Road and Gleason Street, Edina. Interment in family ancestral site in Yorkville, Wis., at a later date.

Dorothy Jane Hermanson
Dorothy Jane Hermanson, 70, of Cambridge Street died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in her home.
Dorothy was born in Duluth on June 11, 1931, to Samuel and Laura (Segal) Reed. Dorothy spent the majority of her life here in Duluth but also lived in Mt. Vernon, Wash., for six years and Buffalo, Minn., for several years before returning to Duluth in 1995. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, having worked at St. Mary's Hospital and Miller-Dwan Medical Center. She also worked in the Chemical Dependency Program in Waverly, Minn.

Dorothy was a member of Arnold Lutheran Church, active in a group of ladies who all graduated from Duluth Central in 1949 and was an active traveler and loved working with crafts and flowers.

Dorothy is survived by daughters Gayle (George) Franckowiak of Duluth, Claire (Kirby) Stortz of Blaine, Minn., and Jill (Isaac) Noboise of Apple Valley, Minn.; sisters Marjorie Seitz of Dayton, Ohio, and Shirley Kobus of Duluth; a brother, Franklin (Shirley) Reed, of Winlock, Wash.; grandchildren Laurie Beyer, Edward Franckowiak, Kimberly Franckowiak and Jennifer Noboise; a great grandson, Adam Beyer; an aunt, Frances Langman, of St. Paul; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday in Dougherty Funeral Home. Service 10 a.m. Tuesday in Family of God Lutheran Church, 4097 Martin Road. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.

John Eckert
John Eckert, 79, of Dunedin Avenue died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in his home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Waukon, Iowa, to John and Edith (Roffman) Eckert. He was a high school graduate and completed two years of junior college before enlisting in the Navy in 1941. He served in the Medical Corps for both the Navy and the Marine Corps and was with the Fleet Marine Force during the invasions of Guadalcanal and Tarawa, for which he received two Presidential citations. He also served in the Bikini Islands during atomic testing.

He settled on the West Coast after the War. He married Dora E. Cooke April 20, 1947, in Bremerton, Wash. They moved to Duluth in 1963.

He was the principal building and grounds supervisor at University of Minnesota Duluth when he retired in 1986. He was a member of University United Methodist Church, VFW Post 137 and a men's bowling league. He was a former member of the St. Louis County Search and Rescue Unit. He enjoyed working in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora in 1991; and a sister, Bernice Kelley.

He is survived by his devoted friend, Josephine Cooke of Duluth; a sister, Florence Dundee of Waukon, Iowa; nephews Dr. Gaylord Kelley of Garden City, S.C., and Lynn Dundee of Missouri City, Texas; nieces Darlene (John) Eisen of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kay Pallas of Omaha, Neb., Susan (Daniel) Hodnik and Nancy (Chester) Nelson, both of Duluth; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park.

Clerry Muriel (Wahlberg) Halvorson
Clerry Muriel (Wahlberg) Halvorson, 84, longtime resident of Roswell, N.M., formerly of Duluth died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Roswell.
She was born in Duluth to Gustav and Charlotte "Lottie" Wahlberg and was a 1935 graduate of Denfeld High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James "Budda" Halvorson; and a brother, Richard E. Wahlberg.

Survivors include sons Robert Halvorson of Long Beach, Calif., Steve (Lyn) Halvorson and John (Julianna) Halvorson, both of Roswell; sisters Lucille Swanson, Caroline (Bill) Caywood, both of Duluth, Helen (John) Juhl of Madison, Wis., Eleanor Roland of Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oneota cemetery, Duluth.

William "Bill" Zuck
William "Bill" Zuck, 76, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 in Victoria, Texas.
Bill attended Morgan Park High School and University of Minnesota Duluth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillian Ola Zuck; and his wife, Dolores.

Survivors include children Dale (Elida) and Glenn (Pat) Zuck; a grandson, Nathan; a sister, Lorene (Al) Kollath of Duluth; nephews Rick and Gary of Duluth and Jerry Kollath of Austin, Texas; a niece, Carol Ann Kari of Superior.

Eva Mae Bloomgren Glinsman
Eva Mae Bloomgren Glinsman, 71, of Cambridge, Minn., died Sunday, July 19, 2001, in Seasons Hospice, Rochester, Minn.
She graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1951 and taught physical education at Duluth Central from 1951-1957. She also taught in Northbrook, Ill., and Cambridge-Isanti school districts.

She is survived by daughters Nancy (Jeff) Werning of Rochester and Diane (John) Gibson of Arden Hills, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 28 in Cambridge Lutheran Church, Cambridge. Memorials may be made to the church or to American Cancer Society.

George Warren Flaim
George Warren Flaim, 79, of Trinity Road died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Virginia to George and Jennie (Bowman) Flaim I. he attended Duluth State Teachers College and the Duluth Art Institute. an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served 22 months in the South Pacific. he married Elaine Alaire Raumer on March 7, 1943, in Winfield, Kan. a Duluth resident since 1946, he was owner/operator of Storey Taxidermy from January 1947, until his retirement in October 1978.

He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, a national director for the North American Falconry Association, president of seven gun clubs, served on two mayoral advisory committees, a past director of the Duluth Zoo, an honorary member of Parker Shot Gun Publications, a member of the American Legion and the Carlton County Gem & Mineral Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Flaim Nelson of Proctor; and a brother, Glen "Books" Flaim of Virginia.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elaine; sons George III of Duluth and Frank (Deborah) of Fridley, Minn.; daughters Kathleen Cline of St. Paul and Jennifer (Gary) Pitoscia of Duluth; a sister, Janet (Ronald) Wilen of Eveleth; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were private. Burial in Greenwood cemetery, Virginia. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.
