Murita (Allan) Kratt
Murita (Allan) Kratt passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001, after a two and a half year battle with breast cancer.
She was born Aug. 22, 1942, to Fern and Earl Allan in Duluth. Murita attended Fairmont, West Junior High and Denfeld High schools. She was employed at The Glass Block Store for several years. Murita met and married Robert Kratt. They moved to Minneapolis where they had two children, Scott and Pamela. Murita earned her cosmetology license when they moved to Chicago. Moving again to southern California, she worked at several beauty salons.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert Kratt; a son, Scott; a daughter, Pamela; her mother, Fern Allan; sisters Janet (Jim) Kunz, Barbara (Mike) Malm, Bonnie (Terry) Anderson; brothers Richard (Carol) Allan, Lawrence (Gloria) Allan; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass: 1 p.m. Saturday in St. James Church, 721 N. 57th Ave. W.

Ruth Eckman Johnson
Ruth Eckman Johnson, 84, of London Road passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Duluth to Solomon and Elinda (Dahl) Eckman. Ruth graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1934. She was married to John A. Johnson at the end of World War II. During the war, Ruth was a lab tech with U.S. Steel in the Morgan Park plant. She also worked as a lab tech with the state of Minnesota in the Protein Lab of Duluth. She was a former member of the Duluth Women's Club and Delta Delta Delta sorority. Ruth had a great love for horses and spent many very happy days at the Town and Country Ranch. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and her many road trips up the North Shore.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sisters Harriett Eckman, Frances Eckman and Virginia Eckman Moe.

Ruth is survived by a son, Robert Johnson of Duluth; and a daughter, Laura Johnson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
Family gathering of friends: 10:30 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment in Forest Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Duluth Clinic Foundation (for heart or Alzheimer's research), 400 E. Third St. Duluth, MN 55805. Services entrusted to Johnson Mortuary.

Josephine Marie (Ferguson) Johnson
Josephine Marie (Ferguson) Johnson, 94, formerly of 35th Avenue West died Saturday, July 21, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born in Iron River, Wis., Aug. 21, 1906, to Clint and Anna (Hursh) Ferguson. She attended school in Lake Nebagamon. She was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a short order cook at the former Center Bowling Alley in Superior, Fritz's Ice Cream Parlour, a chamber maid at Hotel Spalding and a custodian at Oneida Realty. She enjoyed playing Keno and traveling with her husband, Elmer. She was a good cook and also enjoyed needlework, especially making afghans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; an infant daughter, Verna Mae; and an infant granddaughter; brothers Clarence, Clinton, Robert, Charles, Lemly and her infant twin brother, Joseph; sisters Lu Nelson and Ella Pollard.

Surviving are sons Wilbur "Bo" (Patricia) Erickson of Duluth and Dale (Anita) Erickson of Fort Lupton, Colo.; grandchildren Linda (Peter) Bistis, Terry Jo (Ing) Stockland, Barbara (Derk) Gibson, Tom (Michele) Erickson, Gary (Patty) Erickson, Craig Erickson, Tim (Vickie) Erickson, Brett (Tracy B.) Erickson, Dawn Erickson of Australia and Tracy A. Erickson; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Gladys Anderson of Duluth.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Memorials to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Evelyn Rose Puhl
Evelyn Rose Puhl, 85, of New Duluth passed away Friday, July 20, 2001.
She was taken to heaven by flights of angels.

She was born June 11, 1916, in Rice Lake, Wis., to Fred and Rose (Klinger) Giese. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 6320 and the New Duluth Flower Club. She loved polka music.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and a brother, Francis Giese.

She is survived by sons Harold (Donna) Puhl of Duluth, Larry (Yvonne) Puhl of Cloquet; a daughter, "Peg" (Paul) Podemski of Duluth' grandchildren Mitchell, Michael, Julie Thoreson, Jackie Eisenmann, Jay Puhl, Amy Vleck, Jim Podemski; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, the Rev. Father John Golobich officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery, Superior. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funerals, Foley Chapel, 5405 Ramsey St., 624-4838.

Vivian Dessie DeLoyd
Vivian Dessie DeLoyd, 83, formerly of Duluth died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in St. John's Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, Minn.
She was born March 9, 1918, in Hovland, Minn., to Knut Olaf and Ida (Swisher) Berntson. She had been a Duluth resident for most of her life, living in Albert Lea for the past year and a half. Vivian had been employed as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for many years until retirement. She married Irvin A. DeLoyd Aug. 21, 1942, in Duluth. Vivian was a graduate of Central High School and was a former member of Kenwood Lutheran Church and Zenith Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin in 1970; and a sister, Irene Gunderson.

Survivors include daughters Sandra (Harry) Popiel of Waseca, Minn., and Kathleen (Charles) Refling of Bottineau, N.D.; a son, Douglas (Renee) DeLoyd of Duluth; brothers Julien Berntson and Warren (Judy) Berntson, both of Duluth; sisters Esther Odegaard of Northfield, Minn., and Gladys Berntson; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. John Sippola officiating. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Memorials to Kenwood Lutheran Church or donor's choice would be appreciated. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 East Fourth St., 722-5131.

Bernice Elizabeth Grace Lentz
Bernice Elizabeth Grace Lentz, 87, formerly of 58th Avenue West, died Friday, July 13, 2001, in Nopeming Care Center.
Bernice was born in Neenah, Wis., to Walter and Ella (Hanson) Peterson and was a longtime Duluth resident. She attended the World Wide Church of God, and was a volunteer at Westminster Sunday school and at vacation Bible school. She told Bible stories through the use of the flannel graphs she made. She was a volunteer tutor for the Laubach Literacy program, was a Girl Scout leader and helped children attend camp who otherwise could not. Bernice loved to do fancy sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, in 1999; grandchildren Debbie, Frank and Robert; and great-grandchildren DeLisa, Christopher, and twins Corrie and Carrie.

Surviving are a daughter, Bobbie (Frank) Miller of Proctor; grandchildren Carrie, Bob, Greg and Cheryl; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Service at 2 p.m. Friday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel. Entombment in Sunrise Memorial Park. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.

Peggy J. Perovich
Peggy J. Perovich, 76, of Duluth passed away Sunday, July 15, 2001, at her home in Duluth.
She was born to Ray and Dorthy Burdick on Sept. 24, 1924, in Staples, Minn. Peggy graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School. She worked as a secretary for the Crosby-Ironton Board of Education and a local bank. She was also the bookkeeper for her own business, the North Pole Bar in Duluth.

Peggy loved bowling, and the North Pole Bar sponsored many sporting teams in the Duluth area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roddy, in 1989; her parents; and her brother, Richard.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews and special friend, Elaine Gordon.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Interment in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Agnes E. Grams
Agnes E. Grams, 95, of Duluth died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Chris Jensen Health Center.
She was born Feb. 28, 1906, in Greenbush, Roseau County, Minn., to Frank and Frances Blazek. She was a resident of Duluth since 1942. She had worked at Garon Knitting Mills as a finisher.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, West End Seniors and the Golden Westenders.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Olaf Engdahl; her second husband, William Grams; 11 brothers and sisters; a grandson, Glenn St. Marie; a great-great-granddaughter, Autum; and her son, Raymond Engdahl in January 2001.

Agnes is survived by her daughter, Adeline (Eugene) St. Marie of Duluth; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in Foley Chapel. Service at 10 a.m. Friday in Foley Chapel, Father Anthony Wroblewski O.M.I. officiating. Interment in Calvary cemetery. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funerals, Foley Chapel, 5404 Ramsey St., 624-4834.

Donald Herren Sausman
Donald Herren Sausman, 78, of North 52nd Avenue West and formerly of Rice Lake Township, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in his home.
Donald was born in Minneapolis to Ervin and Lula (Herren) Sausman. He was a member of Family of God Lutheran Church. He was a heavy-equipment operator and truck driver until his injury in an industrial accident on Good Friday in 1956.

Donald was an avid woodworker and active in foster care for 15 years. He married Dorothy Konczak in 1961.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William; a brother, Edgar; and a sister, Ruby Larson.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; sons Earl (Nancy) of Embarrass, Donald D. of Duluth, LeRoy (Linda) of Gilbert, Gary (Judy) Bennett of Aurora and Bruce (Claudia) Bennett of Duluth; a daughter, Linda Salo of Gilbert; a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Byrns of Emily, Minn.; grandchildren Heather, Jon, Brian, Jodi, Dena, Alyssa, Bruce, Michael, Dawn, Kari, Robert, Tammy, Jennie and Travis; great-grandchildren Brook, Joshua, Christine, Mariah, JR, Lisa, Brianna and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.
