DONALD S. GOLESH
Donald S. Golesh, 67, of Fond du Lac, Wis., died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.
He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Duluth to Mark and Mary Vuksich Golesh. In 1959, he married Marybel Daniels in Duluth and moved to Wisconsin in 1972. Mr. Golesh was employed as a plant manager at Friday Canning Co., in Eden, Wis., and later in Oakfield, Wis., retiring in 1996. He was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean War as a drill instructor. Mr. Golesh was a member of the Horicon American Legion, and the Iron Ridge and Oakfield Lions Clubs.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Lori Golesh and her fiance, Gary Stephens, both of Hartford, Wis., Jolene Golesh of Minneapolis; sons Michael Golesh and his wife, Amy and Brian Golesh and his wife, Karen, all of Appleton, Wis.; three grandchildren; sisters Helen Vuksich and Lois Pierce, both of Duluth; a brother, Michael Vuksich and his wife, Kay, both of Duluth; and a nephew and niece.
Visitation: 3 until the 5 p.m. service today, the Rev. Edward Sippel officiating in Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, Fond du Lac. Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday in Calvary cemetery, Duluth.

Donald J. "Rocky" Rockwell
Donald J. "Rocky" Rockwell, 78, of Arbutus Drive died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in his home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1922, to Donald and Violet Rockwell in Duluth, where he was a lifetime resident. He sometimes traveled outside the area, but always felt that Duluth was his home. He was a 1941 graduate of Denfeld High School and married Jeanne Hanson on June 20, 1987. He served active duty with the Air National Guard during the Korean War. He retired as a lieutenant from the Duluth Police Department where he served as a patrolman, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant and lieutenant during his 34 years in the department.

He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of Forbes United Methodist Church, and a life-time member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. "Rocky" loved fishing, camping and exploring the great outdoors. He was an accomplished handyman. Friends and family members will always remember "Rocky" as a faithful and loyal friend.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Georgeanne Rice; and niece, Gail Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons David Rockwell of North Branch, Minn., and James Rockwell of Bloomington, Minn.; a daughter, Cathy Nelson of Moose Lake; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Forbes United Methodist Church, 33 Grove St., Proctor. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Memorials preferred to Forbes United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Beatrice Helga
(Hotakainen) Scharnott
Beatrice Helga (Hotakainen) Scharnott, 68, of Elk Street died peacefully in her home Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 15, 1933, to William and Helga Hotakainen in New York Mills, Minn.

She was a longtime member of Grace Evangelical Free Church. Beatrice enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved baking, cooking and knitting. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and held Bible studies in her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helga Hotakainen; a son, Michael and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Scharnott; an infant son; an infant brother, Wilbert; an infant sister, Diana; and her stepbrother, LeRoy Hotakainen.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Joseph; a son, Thomas (Peggy) of Duluth; daughters Delia (Glen) Solem of Saginaw; Diana Pesola of New York Mills; a brother, Leonard (Dolores) Hotakainen of Gilbert; and grandchildren Nicole, Chad, Ryan, Ashley, Kelsey and Brandon.

Beatrice will be deeply missed by her husband, children, family, relatives and friends.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Service at 2 p.m. Friday in Grace Evangelical Free Church, 615 Pleasant View Road, Duluth. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

Kelly Jo Klemek
Kelly Jo Klemek, 24, of Duluth died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, in her home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1976, to Brenda (McNelis) and Roger Endres. Kelly attended Central High School. She enjoyed reading, music, dancing and pets.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Kelly is survived by her husband, Darren of Duluth; daughter, Daytonna and son, Jonathan, both at home; her mother, Brenda (Larry) Anthes of Tomahawk, Wis.; her father, Roger Endres of Duluth; sisters Stephanie (fiance, Jason Line), Tiffany, Sabrina and Andrea, all of Duluth; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, the Rev. Joseph Koranda officiating. Cremation will follow services with private burial at a later date. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, (218) 624-5200.

Warren A. Avellar
Warren A. Avellar, 79, of Duluth died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in his granddaughter's home in St. Louis Park, Minn.
He was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Provincetown, Mass., to Albert and Ida (Perie) Avellar. Warren was a World War II veteran, vice president of the Senior Citizen Federation, a member of VFW Post 137, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, the lighthouse keeper at Rock of Ages, assistant coach of the Duluth Rowing team and a foster parent of 69 children over the years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, June; brother Jack; and his sister, Frances Rego.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy (John) Soder of Duluth; grandchildren Justin (Mahria) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Jeremy (Deann) of Duluth and Julie Soder of St. Louis Park, Minn.; great-grandchildren Tessa and Zoranna; his mother, Isabel of Daytona Beach, Fla.; brothers Albert and Joe Avellar, both of Massachusetts; sister Matilda Souza of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Elenor Avellar of Massachusetts.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Bell Brothers Chapel and 2 until the 3 p.m. service Friday in Augustana Lutheran Church in Midway Township. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown. Arrangement by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Jay E. Severance
Jay E. Severance of Duluth died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He would have been 83 years old in October.
Jay was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Minnesota Duluth. He taught school in Crystal Falls, Mich., and later returned to Duluth and worked for the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired in 1985. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the China, Burma and India Theater of Operations. He was a member of the David Wisted American Legion Post, the American Society of Bicycle Riders, AARP and a volunteer at Kids Closet. Jay was an avid reader who would read up to three books a week.

Jay will be greatly missed by Jean, his wife of nearly 60 years, and by his devoted daughter, Janna.
In compliance with Jay's wishes, there will be no visitation and a private memorial service. Burial in Sunrise cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donors' choice in Jay's name. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.

Norman Howard Korby
Norman Howard Korby, 74, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at his beloved Island Lake.
He was born March 8, 1927, in Cloquet to Ellen (Manisto) and Alfred Korby. After high school, Norman served in the Army from 1946 until the end of World War II. The next 47 years he operated heavy equipment, working for the Operating Engineers Local 49.

Norman was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann (Gotbrason) in 1994; his brother, Leroy; his sister, Daisey Andrews; and his granddaughter, Heidi Griffith.

He is survived by his sisters, Doris VanCalburgh and Gloria Farren; sons Marlin and Ronald; and daughter Darlene Griffith.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today and 9 until the 10 a.m. service Thursday, all in Johnson Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Park Hill cemetery.

Faith J. Pawlak
Faith J. Pawlak, 81, of Cambridge, Minn., formerly of North Branch, Minn., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughters Jean Rozeske and Ann Pawlak; two grandsons; and other relatives and friends.
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday in United Methodist Church, North Branch. Interment in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, North Branch. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home, North Branch, (651) 674-4444.

Charlotte Virginia (Tuttle)
Ekstrom
Charlotte Virginia (Tuttle) Ekstrom, 82, of Chicago went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 6, 2001, after a courageous struggle with cancer.
She was born in Duluth Jan. 3, 1919, to Ella (Reuping) and Roy Grant Tuttle. Graduating from Denfeld High School, where she was a noted singer and dancer, she worked for Enger & Olson and the Buck & Wing Resort, her family's business in Minong. She was executive secretary for her husband, the late Dr. Robert "Bob" C. Ekstrom, and served as administrative coordinator for his vocal and choral concerts and convention appearances throughout Duluth and the Midwest. She was a member of Duluth's Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and its Sarah Circle until moving to Chicago in 1965.

Charlotte is survived by her children, the Rev. Robert R. (Sharon) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Virginia Grossman of South Milwaukee, Wis., Carol (Darrell) O'Day of Duluth, Richard L. of Chicago, Lorrie A. (John) Stuhlmacher of Crown Point, Ind., and Cheryl Ekstrom of Chicago; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 2-9 p.m. Friday in Krueger Funeral Home, Blue Island, Ill. Service 11 a.m. Saturday in Evangelical Community Church, Blue Island. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Duluth.

Theresa Pauline Forsman
Theresa Pauline Forsman, 89, of Proctor left her family for the arms of her Lord Monday, March 5, 2001.
Theresa was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A woman of faith and devotion, Theresa was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Proctor, former Legion of Mary member and a former member of St. Joseph's Circle. She will be forever remembered by all who loved her.

Theresa was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Timothy and Alexina Gagnon; her husband of 61 years, Arthur; sisters Claire, Bernadette, Celina and Elizabeth; and a brother, Timothy.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Dennis (Kathryn) Forsman of Proctor, Janice (Tracy) Gran of Winterport, Maine, and Julie (Fred) Turbin of Fridley, Minn.; grandchildren Tracy Jr., Jennifer, Christine, David, Eric, Mary, Lee, Matthew, Sarah, Ann, Lana and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Kaylie, Kortney, Makayla and Jacob; sisters Antoinette Paulson, Roseanna Beauchane and Irene Jensen, all of the Twin Cities; and brothers Marcel (Rose) Gagnon of Milwaukee, Wis., and Tom (Marie) Gagnon of Mesa, Ariz.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. wake prayer in Foley Chapel and 9 until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday in St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funerals, Foley Chapel, 5405 Ramsey St., Duluth, (218) 624-4838.
