Timothy Wayne Wagner
Timothy Wayne Wagner, 44, of Duluth passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice.
He was born Nov. 22, 1956, in St. Paul and lived in Hermantown, Brainerd, Proctor and Duluth. Tim graduated from Proctor High School in 1975, and studied art at University of Wisconsin-Superior, where he met his wife of 22 years. He enjoyed a deep, long interest in art, music, and collecting.

Tim worked at St. Luke's Hospital, Great Northern Music Center and Marshall Hardware, whom the family would like to thank for their kind support.

Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Wagner.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen; a son, Carl; father, DeWayne Wagner and his wife, Gerrie of Proctor; and a sister, Sandra Wagner of Two Harbors.

Tim's unique perspective and unusual wit will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation: 6 until the 7 p.m. memorial service today in Peace United Church of Christ, 1015 E. 11th St. Reception follows.

Gerald "Jerry" C. Nelson
Gerald "Jerry" C. Nelson, 61, of Duluth passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in his home surrounded by his family, after a struggle with cancer.
He was born March 21, 1940, in Duluth to Clyde and Sigrid (Anderson) Nelson. He graduated from Denfeld High School. He owned and operated Brander's Music. He worked at Johnson's Furniture as a salesman. He was a golf teacher and worked at Enger Park Golf Course. He married Susan Ostrom in Duluth on May 13, 1961.

Jerry was a member of Hillside United Methodist Church. He loved golfing, curling, bowling and was also a ski jumper. He was a member of Rotary and president of the Hammond Organ Club. He was the vice president of the Zenith City Golf Club and committee chairman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; a son, Kurt (Julie) of Maui, Hawaii; a daughter, Cheryl "Sherri" (Larry) Robillard of Ferndale, Wash.; a sister, Jean (Bill Halter) Peterson of Carlton; grandchildren Griffey, Bayla, Tiffany, Trent and Tianna; and nephews Ryan and Mike Peterson, both of Duluth.
Visitation: 12:30 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Hillside United Methodist Church, the Rev. Karen Schuder officiating. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.

Robert Michael Olbin Sr.
Robert Michael Olbin Sr., 80, of West House Street passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Duluth.
He was born March 20, 1921, to Michael and Mary (Evosevich) Olbin in Duluth. He attended Morgan Park High School and the University of Minnesota. He worked at the U.S. Steel plant and then with the Duluth Police Department, retiring in 1976, after 33 years of service as an ID and fingerprint technician.

He was one of Duluth's original Tamburitzans. He was very active in sports, pitching for the Gary Athletic Club, Detroit Lakes and the University of Minnesota baseball teams. He bowled in many leagues and was an avid golfer and a member of the Nemadji Golf Course and Men's Club since 1942.

He was a member of many organizations including, St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and the Men's Club, the Duluth Musicians Association, Gary Community Club, Duluth Police Retirees, Serbian Federation and the Tamburitza Association of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful granddaughter, Stacey Leigh Olbin.

He is survived by his wife, Inez; sons Robert Jr. of Burnsville, Minn., and Peter J. (Gayle) of Duluth; brothers George (Lorraine) of Tucson, Ariz., and Eli (Olga) of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren Michelle Dechene-Olbin (Dan) Baldwin of Temecula, Calif., Stephanie (John) Cummings of Duluth and Daniel P. Olbin of Burnsville; and great-grandchildren Dan Jr., Amanda and Mathew Baldwin, and Joey F. Olbin Cummings.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today with Pomen services at 7 p.m. in Bell Brothers Chapel. Service at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 1216 104th Ave. W., the Very Rev. Milan Zbilich officiating. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

CLINTON W. BRYANT
Clinton W. Bryant, 96, of Grand Avenue, formerly of North 57th Avenue West, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Lake Haven Manor.
He was born July 20, 1905, in Clarion, Iowa, to John Gilbert and Annie (Miller) Bryant. A Duluth resident since 1921, he retired from Interlake Iron Corp., in 1962 after 36 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, West Duluth 1478.

Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen A. (Warnock) on July 28, 1992; sons Ernie on July 24, 1995, and James on Jan. 2, 2000; and two sisters.

Survivors include his son, John (Joanne) of Proctor; his daughter-in-law, Susie Bryant of Proctor; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Forbes United Methodist Church, Proctor. Burial in Oneota cemetery, Duluth. Memorials preferred to Lake Haven Manor or to donor's choice. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

VIRGINIA M. (WALCZAK) KJERSTAD
Virginia M. (Walczak) Kjerstad, 84, of Duluth died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital.
She was born in Duluth on Feb. 1, 1917. Virginia worked in human resources at Century Mathews Freight Co., Jeno's and Barko Hydraulic until she retired in 1978. With her husband, Bill, their retirement was spent on the Gunflint Trail, where they lived for 10 years. She loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and her sisters, Leona Krysiak and Angeline Depre.

Survivors include her children, Pat (Larry) Cook of Duluth, Joni (Dick) Bratley of Washburn, Robert (Becky) Kjerstad and Mike Kjerstad, both of Duluth; a sister, Dorothy Symanski of Redwood City, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed by all.
NO SERVICEwill be held, per her request. Arrangements by Fred Olson Mortuary.

MARGARET J. (MITCHELL) MICHELIZZI
Margaret J. (Mitchell) Michelizzi, 84, of Duluth died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, in Viewcrest Health Center.
She was born in Duluth on Sept. 28, 1917, to Nels and Signe Evenson. She graduated from Denfeld High School and St. Luke's School of Nursing. She married Pat Michelizzi of Duluth in 1945. Margaret worked for many years as a nurse in the Medical Arts building.

Margaret was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star and the Duluth Denfeld Reunion Committee, class of 1935. She taught Sunday school for many years and was active with the PTA at Grant, Washington and Central High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters Margie Hilderbrand, Lillian Marshall and Violet Joyce; and a brother, John Evenson.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Susan (John) Mike of Seattle and Jennifer (Dan) Leischke of Princeton, Minn.; son Dennis (Marilyn) Mitchell of Duluth; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Johnson Mortuary and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

RICHARD H. "DICK" ARNOLD
Richard H. "Dick" Arnold, 64, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Duluth, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001.
Dick graduated from East High School in 1955 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He was a high school art teacher and golf coach in Tucson. He was able to retire early and enjoyed time for golf, painting and travel.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; a brother, Dr. Gordon (Rosalie) Arnold of High Point, N.C.; a sister, Marilyn (Dave) Halvorsen of Tucson; aunts Evelyn Tonkin and Marie (Kenneth) Tonkin; an uncle, Raymond Soberg of Duluth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

JOEL WALTER SCHMIDT
Joel Walter Schmidt, 69, of Lake Gogebic, Marenisco, Mich., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Rochester, Minn., the son of the late Arnold and Tessie (Brooks) Schmidt. In 1938, he moved to Bessemer, attending Bessemer schools and graduating from A.D. Johnston High School in 1950. He then attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1954. Joel was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy. In 1957, he moved to Duluth and had been employed as a regional operations officer for Norwest Bank. In 1997, he moved to Lake Gogebic.

Joel is survived by his wife, Star; a son, Kurt of Palm Springs, Calif.; a brother, Laird of Bloomington, Minn.; two stepdaughters; and four step-grandchildren.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES were held. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by Ketola-Burla Funeral Home, Ironwood.

MARGARET IRENE GRUWELL
Margaret Irene Gruwell, 92, longtime resident of West End, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
She was born July 27, 1909, in Duluth to Gustaf and Sophie (Felstrom) Sahlin. She was a lifelong Duluth resident, a homemaker, and a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and Bread of Life Church in Minneapolis.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Gruwell Sr.

Survivors include sons Gerald Jr. (Carol) Gruwell of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and LeRoy (Judy) Gruwell of Duluth; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
VISITATION: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday in Christ the King Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Sunrise Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funeral Homes, Foley Chapel, 5405 Ramsey St., (218) 624-4838.
