Lily A. Wisti Stevens
Lily A. Wisti Stevens, 93, of Hibbing died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Golden Crest Nursing Home, Hibbing.
She was born Aug. 3, 1907, to Oscar and Hannah Wisti in Fitchburg, Mass. She grew up and attended school in Hibbing, graduating from Hibbing High School. Following high school, she was employed by the Boston Shoe Store in Hibbing, Kleffman Mercantile Company and finally as a secretary for St. Louis County Health Department in the Hibbing Courthouse until her retirement. She had been a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Hibbing.

Lily was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Stevens; sisters Agnes Fleming and Joanne Roseboom; and her parents.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis A. Johnson of Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren Brian (Katie) Johnson of Rosemount, Minn., and Aimee Johnson of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Briauna Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hibbing. Pastor Bruce Dissell officiating. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Ruth A. Engel
Ruth A. Engel, 80, of Hibbing died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Leisure Hills Health Care Center, Hibbing.
She was born May 27, 1920, in Duluth to Nicholas and Hilda Nelson. She married Lawrence Engel Aug. 8, 1940, and had worked as a secretary in First National Bank, retiring in 1980.

Ruth was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; a son, Lawrence N. (Sue) of Duluth; a daughter, Carol (Tom Mode) of Minneapolis; and grandchildren Jeffrey Engel, Sheila Spencer and Christopher Mode.
Visitation: 12:30 until the 1:30 p.m. service Wednesday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. The Rev. Lyle Rossing officiating. Burial in Park Hill cemetery, Duluth.

Gary E. Lustila
Gary E. Lustila, 54, of Hastings, Minn., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minn., as a result of an accidental fall.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Range Funeral Home, Virginia and noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in First Apostolic Lutheran Church, Virginia. Burial in Eveleth cemetery, Eveleth.

George Mattila
George Mattila, 87, of Ely died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in the Minnesota Veterans Home, Silver Bay.
He was born Nov. 13, 1913, to Nick and Emelia (Pudas) Mattila in Waukegan, Ill.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie.

He is survived by sons Nick (Paula) of Babbitt, John of Ely and Nigel (Kathy) of Iron River; a sister, Virginia (Robert) Dingman of Spotsylvania, Va.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.

Belva J. Riebe
Belva J. Riebe, 68, of Finland died Monday, March 19, 2001, in her home.
She was born in Litchfield, Minn., Feb. 20, 1933. She moved to the Finland area in 1960 with her family and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was an avid high-average bowler in Finland Air Base and in Silver Bay, and enjoyed knitting and selling her knitting around the area. On Election Day Belva could be found working as an election judge for Crystal Bay Township.

A loving homemaker and mother, her hobbies were bird watching, especially hummingbirds and eagles, and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Beard of Alpena, Mich.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin A.; her mother, Ruth Beard of Minnesota Veteran's Home, Silver Bay; a son, Mark A. Riebe of Puyallup, Wash.; grandsons Michael Riebe of Idaho and Danny Riebe of Washington; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. service Friday in Zion Lutheran Church, Finland. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.

Leonard Cook
Leonard Cook, 92, of Grand Rapids died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home.
He is survived by sons Larry (Jeanne) of Phoenix and Philip (LaVonne) of Grand Rapids; daughters Fern (Ron) Anderson of Cloquet and Gloria (Gene) Birt of Grand Rapids; 17 grandchildren; and a grandchild.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids and 1 until the 2 p.m. service Thursday in Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids. Burial in Warba Feeley cemetery.

Anthony Joseph Sutich
Anthony Joseph Sutich, 77, formerly of Chisholm died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Carson City, Nev.
He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Mountain Iron.

He is survived by three sons; three daughters; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Andrew of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Edward of St. Paul; and a sister, Marilyn Zobenica of Bovey.
Services were held Jan. 12 in Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City. Internment in Northern Nevada Veterans cemetery.

Myrtle G. Carlson
Myrtle G. Carlson, 78, of Aitkin died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Riverwood Health Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today with a 7:30 p.m. Eastern Star service in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in Cascade United Methodist Church. The Reverends Steve Anthes and Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial in Bennettville cemetery.

Beverly J. Ness
Beverly J. Ness, 73, of Hibbing died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in her home.
No services will be held to honor Beverly's wishes. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Doris Mae Stromlund
Doris Mae Stromlund, 74, of Munger Shaw Road, Solway Township, died peacefully Monday evening, March 19, 2001, in her home after a long battle with lung disease.
She was born Dec. 20, 1926, in East Lake, Minn., to Ted and Christine (Bystrom) Freeman. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1944. Doris owned Busy Corner Grocery in the 1950s and early 1960s with her former husband, Clifford Olafson, in Proctor.

She obtained certification as a laboratory technician assistant from DAVTI in 1972. Until her retirement in 1978, she managed the Hickory Farms store in Miller Hill Mall.

Doris was a member of the Solway Flamettes Ladies Auxiliary for more than 20 years and a life member of the VFW Post 3044 Cotton-Meadowlands. She served as a St. Louis County 4-H leader. From 1996-1999, she mentored students in Hermantown High School. She was a member of the Solway Township Comprehensive Land Use Committee. An avid fisherwoman, hunter and gardener, she will best be remembered for her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alvin.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Clare; daughters Chris Olafson (Greg S. Anderson) of Hermantown and Dawn Olafson of Twig; sons Carl Olafson of Pocatello, Idaho, and Kurt (Jenny) Stromlund of Brighton, Mich.; brothers Bud (Dorie) Freeman of McGregor, Bob (Billie) Freeman of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Richard (Carlene) Freeman of Issaquah, Wash.; a sister, Norma Phillips of Ash Flat, Ark.; grandchildren Michelle Daigle, Shannon White, Nathan Daigle, Kaila Scouton and Kelli Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Bell Brothers Chapel, the Rev. David Mork officiating. Burial in Solway cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Solway Flamettes, Solway Town Hall, 4029 Munger Shaw Rd., Cloquet, MN 55720. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Frank Delak
Frank Delak, 84, of Gilbert died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center, Virginia.
He was born March 19, 1917, in Biwabik to Louis and Mary (Sustar) Delak. He was a 1937 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Biwabik. He was a proud member of the 1881st Army Aviation Engineers Battalion, the only World War II non-combat unit to be awarded the Distinguished Service Citation, serving in the Pacific from Australia to the Philippines. On April 18, 1942, he married Katie Biondich in Gilbert. He retired from Eric Mining Co. as a shovel operator with 38 years of service.

Frank was a member of Gilbert VFW Post and St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katie in 1994; and a sister, Dorothy Sherek in 1994.

Frank is survived by a daughter, Carol Delak of Minneapolis; a son, Don (Jerry) of Pine City, Minn.; granddaughters Heidi and Erica Delak; brothers Ed of Aurora and Bob of Side Lake, Minn.; a sister, Mayme Mohar of Biwabik; special friends Joe Purkat and John DeLuca; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gilbert. Father Frank Perkovich as celebrant. Burial in Gilbert cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert.
