Frances M. Albright
Frances M. Albright, 84, of Hoyt Lakes died Monday, March 19, 2001.
She is survived by daughters Joan (Robert) Magnuson and Carol (Larry) Houdek; sons Louis "Jerry" (Gene) and John "Jocko"; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Faith Lutheran Church, Hoyt Lakes. Burial in Hoyt Lakes Memorial cemetery.

Charles J. Marttila
Charles J. Marttila, 92, of Floodwood died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 19, 1909, in Floodwood to Alfred and Hanna (Somero) Marttila and raised in the Floodwood area. He moved to Detroit, where he met and later married Maire Lehtinen on June 29, 1935. They then moved to Howell, Mich., where they owned and operated a chicken farm. They moved to Floodwood in 1949, and then to Proctor in 1955, where they owned and operated Gambles Store and he also did carpentry work, retiring in 1967.

In his younger years, he was a member of Civil Air Patrol and also was a 50-year member of Cloquet Eagles Club. He and his wife were instrumental in organizing the Floodwood Senior Citizen Center. He had lived in Chris Jensen for the past three years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maire in 1995; nine brothers and sisters; and a stepbrother.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Rene) Zied of Green Valley, Ariz.; sons Robert (Inge) of Negaunee, Mich., Ronald (Bernadine) of Saginaw and Charles (Lisa) of Shoreview, Minn.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service March 27 in Hope Lutheran Church, Floodwood, the Rev. Brian Black officiating. Spring burial in Forest Hill cemetery, Floodwood. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Floodwood.

Albert F. "Dutch" Loushin
Albert F. "Dutch" Loushin, 84, of Main Street Lodge, Minneapolis, formerly of Chisholm, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Minneapolis.
He was a retired welder from U.S. Steel and a 54-year member of American Legion Post 247. He served in Germany during World War II in the Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie.

He is survived by a son, Albert J. (Donna C.) of Anoka, Minn; grandchildren Chad Michael and Shana Marie Loushin, both of Minneapolis; and a sister, Mrs. George (Pauline) Hakala of Chisholm.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Main Street Lodge and In Home Health Hospice, Roseville, Minn. Memorials preferred.
Memorial service to be held in Chisholm at a later date. Arrangements by Kapala-Glodek, Northeast Chapel, 230 13th Ave. N.E., Minneapolis, MN 55413, (612) 378-1331.

Lloyd McMillen
Lloyd McMillen, 67, of Cloquet died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in his home.
He was born April 29, 1933, in Margie, Minn., to Frank and Theodora (Salvorson) McMillen, and moved to the Wrenshall area at the age of 15. Lloyd was united in marriage to Mary Lou Brown Aug. 9, 1958, in the Carlton Presbyterian Church. He served in the Army during the Korean war. Lloyd previously worked in the brickyard in Wrenshall, Wood Conversion in Cloquet from 1952-1958, construction for Conoco Oil Refinery in Wrenshall, and also for Northwest Paper, now known as Potlatch Corp., retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Scanlon Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.

Lloyd was an avid sports fan. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren, especially at holidays, and weekly visits with his sister, Helen. He always enjoyed the big family reunions. He kept the grandsons busy with odd jobs. Lloyd will be fondly remembered for finding humor in any situation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Roy, Vernon and Russell; and a sister, Marie Oskerson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; sons David (Patricia) and Daniel, both of Cloquet; daughters Lynette (William) Lehman of Esko and Lisa McMillen of Cloquet; brothers Kenneth of Northhome, Minn., Harold (Faye) of Cloquet and Glen of St. Paul; sisters Esther (Stanley) Lukenbill of Big Falls and Helen Laubach of Wrenshall; grandchildren Joshua Lehman, Bille Jo Penttila, Jeremy Lehman, Brandon Kangas, Sara McMillen, Jace Lehman, Jesse McMillen, Britney McMillen and Nicholas McMillen; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special buddy, Bo.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Nelson Funeral Care and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in J.M. Paine Memorial Presbyterian Church, Carlton, the Rev. Loren Nelson officiating. Full military honors presented by Nicholas-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton. Pallbearers will be his nine grandchildren. Spring interment service in Hillside cemetery, Carlton. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

Leonard Jenson
Leonard Jenson, 87, of Falls Good Samaritan Center died Tuesday, March 20, 2001.
He is survived by sons Loren (Susan) and Maynard; daughters Ilene Berg and Diane (Michael) Edens; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Zion Lutheran Church. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary.

Dorothy M. Shepard
Dorothy M. Shepard, 90, of Rivers Edge Villa, International Falls, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Falls Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by son Clyde (Olga); daughters Diane (Arthur) Nissen and Shannon Butler; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Wagner.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service today in Green-Larsen Mortuary. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery.

Alexander Lavern Schaaf Sr.
Alexander Lavern Schaaf Sr., 66, of Ball Club, Minn., died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
Visitation: after 5 p.m. Thursday in Ball Club Community Center. Service 2 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Church. Burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

Harvey J. Williams
Harvey J. Williams, 70, of Moose Lake, formerly of Sturgeon Lake died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake.
Harvey was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Stevens Point, Wis., to Carl E. and Rose G. (Kujawski) Williams. He was married to Dorothy Campbell June 9, 1951, in Phoenix. Harvey served 20 years in the Air Force as a Staff Sgt. before retiring. Following retirement from the Armed Forces, Harvey became a logger.

He was a member and former commander of the Carlton VFW Post 2962 and a member of Tamarack Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clifford and Marvin; and sister Ethel Shulfer and Loretta Hackbarth.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Carol Carter of Sturgeon Lake, Mary Cronin of Moose Lake, Sheryl VanRyzin of Brillion, Wis., Rosalee Williams of Sandstone and April (Mike) Mattson of Sandstone; sons Dave of Floodwood and Ricky of Sturgeon Lake; brothers Carl (Audrey) of Florida, Myron (Beverly) and Ernest (Bernie), both of Marshfield, Wis., and Jerry (Kathy) of Florida; sisters Isabella (Ambrose) Sterzinger of Colby, Wis., Esther (Walter) Hornik of Wausau, Wis., Louise (Glenn) Pilgrim of Pillager, Minn., Judy (Tom) Miller of Edgar, Wis., and Dawn Hinkelmann of Lockhart, Texas; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Tamarack Church of Christ, Tamarack, the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 2962 of Carlton. Burial 2 p.m. Monday in Minnesota State Veterans cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.

David E. Nelson
David E. Nelson, 66, of Cloquet died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in his home.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday in Barr Brothers Funeral Home, Cloquet. Full obituary will be printed in Thursday's paper.

Doris Mae Stromlund
Doris Mae Stromlund, 74, of Munger Shaw Road, Solway Township, died peacefully Monday evening, March 19, 2001, in her home after a long battle with lung cancer.
She was born Dec. 20, 1926, in East Lake, Minn., to Ed and Christine (Bystrom) Freeman. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1944. Doris owned Busy Corner Grocery in the 1950s and early 1960s with her former husband, Clifford Olafson, in Proctor. She obtained certification as a laboratory technician assistant from DAVTI in 1972. Until her retirement in 1978, she managed the Hickory Farms store in Miller Hill Mall.

Doris was a member of the Solway Flamettes Ladies Auxiliary for more than 20 years and a life member of the VFW Post 3044 Cotton-Meadowlands. She served as a St. Louis County 4-H leader. From 1996-1999, she mentored students in Hermantown High School. She was a member of the Solway Township Comprehensive Land Use Committee. An avid fisherwoman, hunter and gardener, she will best be remembered for her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alvin.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Clare; daughters Chris Olafson (Greg S. Anderson) of Hermantown and Dawn Olafson of Twig; sons Carl Olafson of Pocatello, Idaho, and Kurt (Jenny) Stromlund of Brighton, Mich.; brothers Bud (Dorie) Freeman of McGregor, Bob (Billie) Freeman of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Richard (Carlene) Freeman of Issaquah, Wash.; a sister, Norma Phillips; grandchildren Michelle Daigle, Shannon White, Nathan Daigle, Kaila Scouton and Kelli Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Bell Brothers Chapel, the Rev. David Mork officiating. Burial in Solway cemetery. Aili Siltanen
Aili Siltanen, 91, of Cloquet died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet.
She was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Kuorevesi, Finland, to Emil and Milta (Palsinajarvei) Siltanen. In 1912, Aili came to the United States with her family, settling in Cloquet. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1927, and the Duluth State Teacher's College in 1929. Aili received her bachelor of science Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1951, and her master's degree in 1954. She taught in Carlton County Schools from 1929 until 1935, at which time she began teaching in Cloquet until her retirement in 1971. She was an elementary teacher and principal in the Garfield, Leach and Churchill Schools.

Aili was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, its choir and WMF, Finnish Ladies Aid and the Ladies of Kaleva. She belonged to numerous state and national educational associations. She was a member of the Governor's Commission on teacher supply and served on the State Curriculum Committee on health education. She was also a member of the Association of University Women, a director of the American Lung Association of Minnesota and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Women Educators.

Aili was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Siltanen; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Siltanen.

She is survived by a brother, Oliver Siltanen; a nephew, Craig (Dianne) Siltanen; and great-nieces and great-nephew Melissa, Nicholas and Chelsea Siltanen, all of Cloquet.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet and 10:30 until the 11:30 a.m. service Friday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1705 Wilson Ave., Cloquet. Burial in Maple Grove cemetery. Arrangements by Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
