Jerry Gesley Beaudette
Jerry Gesley Beaudette, 84, of International Falls died Wednesday, June 6, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Beaudette, and a daughter, Barbara Nelson.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel with flag presentation. Burial will be Monday, June 11, in Watertown, S.D.

Richard L. Mattson
Creator of St. Urho legend
Richard L. Mattson, of Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001.
He was born July 4, 1913, in Virginia and attended the local schools and college. He served four years in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a 40-year manager of Ketola's Department Store in Virginia. He was married to Carolyn E. Lopp for 54 years before she passed away in June 1994.

He was a past member and president of the Lion's Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Elks Club, founder and charter member of the Saturday Night Dance Club, creator of the Legend of St. Urho, and also a member of Northern Lights Players and Northland Singers, the Kalevala Lodge, and the American Legion.

He is survived by daughters Mary Hanna Davies of New York, Carol Ann Osman of Buffalo, Minn., and Kay L. DeCarli of Mason, Mich.; sons R. Michael Mattson of Wadina, Minn., and Marc Mattson of New York; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Virginia. Luncheon to follow service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Association or the National Diabetes Foundation.

Agnes M. Stampke
Agnes M. Stampke, 89, of Virginia died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in the Arrowhead Health Care Center in Virginia.
She was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Virginia to John and Susanna (Kampa) Stampke. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for many years in Virginia. Agnes lived in Superior for 15 years before moving back to Virginia.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Rose Trottier, Mary Janesky, Lucy Kieffer, Joanna Stampke, Sophie Graber and Anne Stampke.

She is survived by a nephew, William (Rita) Trottier of Bloomington, Minn.; nieces Rose Tilghman of Dover, N.C., Lucille (Robert) Werner of Nashville, Tenn., and Lucy Roth of Duluth; a special cousin, Elizabeth Jamieson of Virginia; and many other cousins.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, the Rev. John O'Donnell as celebrant. Burial in Calvary cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements by the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.

Donald F. Bergen
Donald F. Bergen, 66, of Kerrick died Tuesday, June 5, 2001.
He is survived by his mother, Nellie Bergen; brothers Jim, Tom (Lin), Bob (Corki), Dick (Cathy) and Francis (Anna); a sister, Cheryl (Sonny) Malley; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Burial in St. Michael's cemetery, Kerrick Township.

Carl R. Soyring
Carl R. Soyring, 73, of Esko died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Viewcrest Nursing Home in Duluth.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, and five children.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street in Cloquet and continues at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle, 14th and Washington Avenue, Cloquet. Theresa M. Pecarina
Theresa M. Pecarina, 86, of Virginia died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
She was born in Bramble, Minn., to John and Tresa (Stolar) Pomar and lived in the Buhl area for many years. She was a graduate of the Martin Hughes High School in Buhl, Virginia Junior College and the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn.

She married Frank J. Pecarina on April 9, 1942, and had been a Virginia resident since then. She opened and operated Pec's Tot Shop in Virginia and was a public health nurse for the St. Louis County Health Department. She retired in 1976 as the director of nursing at the Arrowhead Nursing Home in Virginia.

She was a member of the Martha Mary Guild and Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank, in 1980; and a grandson, Joseph Pecarina, on Nov. 8, 1995.

Survivors include a son, Thomas (Patricia) Pecarina of Virginia; a daughter, Catherine (Patrick) Edlebeck of Duluth; and grandchildren John and Claire Edlebeck, Robert and Nicholas Galbraith, and Angela Pecarina.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, the Rev. John Doyle as celebrant. Burial in Calvary cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements by the Landmark Funeral Home, Virginia.

Martha Louise Blake
Martha Louise Blake, 89, of Virginia died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 2, 1911, to George and Anna (Manske) Goeppinger in Hermantown. She grew up and attended school in Hermantown. On July 12, 1934, she was united in marriage to Wesley Blake in Taft, Minn. Following marriage, the couple made their home on the Iron Range. She had been a homemaker.

She had been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Virginia and active in the church circles, the Virginia Senior Citizen's Club and the Birthday Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, in 1991; her parents; and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include sons Kenneth (Gloria) Blake of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Russell (Arlene) Blake of Parkville, Minn.; a daughter, Margaret (Bill) Muscatello of Aitkin; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred (Dorothy) Goeppinger of Duluth; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service today in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia, Pastor Cheryl Berg officiating. Burial in Greenwood cemetery in Virginia. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Virginia. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Frederick Dana Birt
Frederick Dana Birt, 38, of Ball Club, Minn., died Monday, June, 4, 2001.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today in the Ball Club Community Center. Service at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ball Club. Burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

Lucille "Dodie" Miller
Lucille "Dodie" Miller, 77, of Canoga Park, Calif., died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, in Canoga Park.
Born Feb. 12, 1923, in Itasca County, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna Mae (Lockman) Olson. A Greenway High School graduate, she married her high school sweetheart, Kermit Miller, in 1944. Since their retirement, Dodie and Kermit spent winters in their home in California and summers at Kom-On-In Beach, Trout Lake.

Her parents, Frank and Anna Mae Olson, and her husband, Kermit, on Jan. 8, 2000, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Bob and Frank (Kathy) Miller, both of Canoga Park, Calif., and a daughter, Sandy (Ed) Rauen of Eagle Rock, Calif.
Mass of Christian burial: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Coleraine, the Rev. Father Lloyd G. Mudrak as celebrant. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements by the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Martha "Jean" Jensen
Martha "Jean" Jensen, 68, of Keewatin died Wednesday, June 13, 2001.
Survivors include her mother, Buelah Ewert; daughters Sue (Mike) LaBine, Kim (Pat) McNamee, Cyndi (Mike) Harless; sons Kevin (Penny) Kirk and Steve Kirk; a brother; two sisters; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. Inurnment in Nashwauk cemetery.

John "Handsome Jack" D. Henderson
John "Handsome Jack" D. Henderson, 68, of Grand Rapids died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis.
He is survived by his loving companion, Patricia Aldrich; daughters Jacqueline (Robin) Crandall, Arlinda (Roger) Hill and Erica Stangland; a son, Michael (Deborah) Henderson; a sister, Ardith Friesen; brothers Warren, Donald and James Henderson; nine grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Service 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cohasset. Burial in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Merle M. Sullivan
Merle M. Sullivan, 91, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in the Sunrise Home, Two Harbors.
He was born Nov. 20, 1909, to Thomas and Almeda (Fredrum) Sullivan in Two Harbors. He grew up in Two Harbors and graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis. He married Jean Kocjancich on Oct. 12, 1940, in Aurora. He was employed as a depot agent and telegrapher for the DM&IR; Railway beginning in 1940 in Aurora, also working in Two Harbors and Meadowlands, retiring to Two Harbors in 1968.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors, and a former member of the Railroad Telegrapher and Depot Agent Organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald; and nine siblings.

Merle is survived by his wife, Jean of Two Harbors; a son, James (Kim) of Waterloo, Iowa; a daughter, Maureen (Ronald) McCarron of Minneapolis; grandchildren Kathy (Robert), Terri (Scott), Robert and Peter; and great-grandchildren McKenzie and Max.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.
