Albert "A.C." "Ace" "Bebe"
Carl Johnson
Albert "A.C." "Ace" "Bebe" Carl Johnson, 61, of Carlton and Gunflint Lake died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in the Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet.
He was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Carlton to Albert and Doris (Vargason) Johnson and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Carlton High School in 1957 and was united in marriage to Barbara Dahlberg on Jan. 10, 1959, in Carlton. Albert was a foreman of the millwrights in the boiler room for the Potlatch Corp., and retired in 1997 with 39 years of service.

"Bebe" owned the first snowmobile in Carlton in 1962. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, snowmobiling and fishing. The joy of his life was being with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; sons Phillip (Merie) Johnson of Carlton and Steven (Laura) Johnson of Duluth; daughters Sheryl (Dean) Davis of Carlton and Alison (Geoff) Bowen of Duluth; his mother, Doris Johnson of Carlton; grandchildren Matthew, Mark, Kristin, Aaron, April, Allan, Chelsea, Erik and Alek; a brother, Tim (Ruby) Johnson Sr. of Carlton; and sisters Patsy (Dick) Nygren of Carlton and Wendie Line of Milwaukee.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton, the Rev. Michael Fossen officiating. Interment services will follow at Hillside cemetery in Carlton. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

Milton Edwin Gustafson
Milton Edwin Gustafson, 87, of Cromwell died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Villa Vista Nursing Home in Cromwell.
He was born April 20, 1914, to John and Mathilda "Tillie" (Carlson) Gustafson in Two Harbors.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.

David P. Sorum
David P. Sorum, 59, of International Falls died Monday, June 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
He is survived by a son, David Paul Sorum Jr.; daughters Camilla R. Sorum and Bonnie Lynn Hogan; four grandchildren; and his mother, Vida Gordon.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc.

Dorothy Andrews Adair Spang
Dorothy Andrews Adair Spang, 83, of Delray Beach, Fla., and formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
After her childhood in Grand Rapids, Minn., Dottie graduated from St. Paul Central High School and the University of Minnesota (Pi Beta Phi). She married Frank Adair, M.D., shortly before World War II and together they raised four children in St. Paul.

She was an active volunteer in the Episcopal Church. After her children were grown, she worked as a counselor at Breck School in Minneapolis. In 1985, she married childhood friend Larry Spang, and retired in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyn and C.K. Andrews; and her brother, Bill Andrews.

In addition to many beloved friends, she is survived by her husband, Larry of Delray Beach; son Dick (Connie) Adair of Minneapolis; daughter Dianne Adair of St. Paul; son Bill (Janna) Adair of Toronto; son Bob Adair of St. Paul; and grandchildren John (Lana) Adair, Charles (Marissa) Adair and Drew Bomcamp, Dave and Sarah Landes, Mike, Chris and Betsy Adair, and Frances, Andy and Lauren Adair.
Eucharist of Christian burial: 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in Messiah Episcopal Church, 1631 Ford Parkway, St. Paul. Memorials preferred to University of Minnesota Foundation, 200 Oak St., SE, Suite 500, Minneapolis, MN 55455.

Olga J. Kalsich
Olga J. Kalsich, 84, of Ely died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at her home in Ely, following a lingering illness.
She was born July 6, 1916, in Elcor, Minn., to John and Josephine (Sajauec) Ferone and moved to Ely in 1927.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the AFU Lodge 114, both in Ely.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Joseph Feroni.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph of 55 years; a brother, Albert (Myrtle) Feroni of Virginia; sisters Josephine Loushin, Ernestine Kromar and Pauline (Stanley) Landa, all of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial: 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ely, Father James Scheuer as celebrant. Burial to follow in Ely cemetery. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home in Ely.

Aili A. Lehti
Aili A. Lehti, 87, of Nashwauk died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in the Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi.
She was born Dec. 4, 1913, to August and Maiji (Forsell) Airaksinen in Hibbing. She grew up and attended school in Buck Lake. She worked in Hibbing for a few years at various jobs. On Feb. 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Aaro John Lehti in Grand Rapids. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Nashwauk.

She was a devoted mother, friend, farm-wife and homemaker. She enjoyed weaving rugs, gardening, cooking and being with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nashwauk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaro; sisters Mayme and Esther; and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Carol (Jacob) Cardille of Nashwauk, Irene (Frank) Hendricks of Perham, Minn., Peggy Lehti of Fridley, Minn., and James (Jeanie) Sunnarborg of Chisholm; grandchildren Jacki (Duane) Bobich of Crosby, Minn., Maija (Robb) Ziebol of Circle Pines, Minn., Anne (Ed) Wendt of Blaine, Minn., Suzanne (Mark) Basiago of Bloomington, Minn., Lori (Gary) Sjostrand of Grand Rapids, Michael Sunnarborg of Maplewood, Minn., Rebecca Sunnarborg of Chisholm, Peter Sunnarborg of Minneapolis and Sam Sunnarborg of Superior; great-grandchildren Matthew and Staci Sjostrand and Carolyn Ziebol; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Visitation: 12:30 until the 2 p.m. service Sunday in the United Methodist Church in Nashwauk, the Rev. Jan Barker officiating. Burial in the Nashwauk cemetery. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home of Hibbing.

Betty Blake-Smith
Betty Blake-Smith, 80, of Carlton died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Jack Blake; her first husband, Edmund Carl Drinkwitz in 1968; her daughter, Terry Jeanne Drinkwitz in 1955; and uncles Lawrence and William Carlson.

She is survived by her second husband, F. Robert "Bob" Smith of Carlton; daughters Dr. Ann B. Blake of Olympia, Wash., and Mary S. Katzenmaier of Brier, Wash.; sons Dan C. Drinkwitz of Tucson, Ariz., and Larry F. Drinkwitz of Shakopee, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Barbara (Ron) Schmidt of Mounds View, Minn; a stepson, Fred R. Smith Jr. (Brenda) Smith; grandchildren Serena Sidmore, Kim Smith, Mary Beth Schmidt, Rob Schmidt, Jenny Smith, Dwight Kosenko, Ryan Katzenmaier, Julia Katzenmaier and Nicole Kosenko; great-grandchildren Kira Deabueno, Alison Watkin, Zachary Watkin and Ransom Schmidt; a sister, Jeanne C. Miettunen of Hibbing; and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Joe and Dorothy Drinkwitz, Lillie Wagner, Rose Goodner and Eva Whitten.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with the VFW Auxiliary Memorial Ritual at 6 p.m. in Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet. Visitation continues from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral Thursday in J.M. Paine Memorial Presbyterian Church, Carlton. Private family inurnment scheduled for a later date. Memorials are preferred to J.M. Paine Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Arthritis Foundation or Special Olympics. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

Feda M. "Fifi" Nelson
Feda M. "Fifi" Nelson, 78, of Chisholm died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Heritage Manor Health Care Center, Chisholm.
She was born June 14, 1922, in Chisholm to Domonic and Feda (Rinaldi) Faggetti. She was a 1941 graduate of Chisholm High School and was a lifelong Chisholm resident. She worked for the former Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory and Minnesota Twist Drill, both in Chisholm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gordon H. on Aug. 22, 1962.

Survivors include her children, Candy Nelson of Minneapolis and Mike Nelson of Chisholm; grandchildren Justin, Kelly and Aaron Nelson; and great-grandchildren Trent, Caitlin and Kirsten Nelson.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service Friday in Rupp Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm, Father Steve Daigle of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment in Chisholm cemetery. Arrangements by Rupp Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

George F. Wind Sr.
George F. Wind Sr., 71 of Cass Lake died Monday, June 11, 2001, in his home.
Visitation: began at 4 p.m. June 12 and continues until the noon funeral service Thursday in Vet's Memorial Building, Cass Lake. Burial in Northern Gospel Mission cemetery, Cass Lake. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer river.

Elsie A. Parent
Elsie A. Parent, 91, of Two Harbors died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Lake View Memorial Hospital, Two Harbors.
She was born March 29, 1910, to Claude and Helen (Riley) Lusk in Two Harbors. She grew up in Knife River and attended schools there and in Two Harbors. She worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for three years during World War II in the car shop and as a waitress at the Two Harbors VFW. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Brimson Action Club, Two Harbors Friendship Club and a former member of the Business and Professional Women and the Lionesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph in 1984; a son Gordon "Tony" Anderson in 1986; and a daughter, Claudia Cooper in 1992.

She is survived by a son, Thomas (Virginia) Anderson of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Patsy Cooper of Grand Haven, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Anderson of Two Harbors; a brother and sister, Bruce Lusk and Dorothy Peterson, both of Knife River; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation: one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Emilia "Millie" Larson Crawford
Emilia "Millie" Larson Crawford, 89, of Tustin, Calif., died Dec. 8, 2000, in Tustin.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred; sons James (Vicki) and Robert (Renee); four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Elvera Larson Nolan; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell. Graveside service will follow in Eagle Lake cemetery in Cromwell.
