Pearl M. Nordin
Pearl M. Nordin, 80, of Alborn died Friday, July 6, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1920, to Walfred and Axeline (Johnson) Mell in Rush City. She married Emil A. Nordin. Pearl was a cook at St. Ann's Home and then at University of Minnesota Duluth, from which she retired. She was a member of Meadowlands Senior Citizens and VFW Women's Auxiliary 3044. She was Alborn town clerk for many years. Pearl enjoyed keeping up her lawn and flower gardens, spending time with family and friends and looking for an excuse to cook for everyone. She especially enjoyed her little dog, Tupper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; four brothers and two sisters.

Pearl is survived by her children, Bruce (Joan), Tim (Jeannine) and Terry (Joan); eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Helen) Mell of Virginia; sisters Marian (Edwin) Lahti of Toivola and Marjorie Hartop of Twig.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday, all in Wefelmeyer Funeral Home, 1506 Washington Ave., Cloquet, 879-6741. Private family interment in Spruce Hill, Alborn. Officiating will be the Rev. Rolland Bockbrader.

Jerome Alfred Johnson Sr.
Jerome Alfred Johnson Sr., 22, of Cass Lake died Sunday, July 1, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.
Survivors include his father, Robert G. Johnson Sr.; his mother, Cathy Johnson; sons Jerome Jr. and Johnathan; fiancee Angela Brown; five sisters; six brothers; other relatives.
Visitation: begins 5 p.m. today in Cass Lake Facility Center and continues until an hour prior to the 9 a.m. service Monday in St. Charles Catholic Church, Cass Lake. Arrangements by Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home, Cass Lake, (218) 547-1112.

Kenneth M. Kalm
Kenneth M. Kalm, 54, of Sturgeon Lake died Thursday, July 5, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Monday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Burial in Sunset Memorial cemetery, Moose Lake.

Martin Spawn
Martin Spawn, 84, of Helena, Mont., died Thursday, July 5, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen McGowen; sons Greg and Kelly; four grandchildren; two sisters; five brothers, including Kenneth of Grand Rapids; and life-long friends.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Goodland Presbyterian Church, Goodland, Minn., where the service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial with full military honors in Maple Grove cemetery, Goodland.

Leigh Donald Senogles
Leigh Donald Senogles, 51, of Red Lake, Minn., died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
He was born Aug. 6, 1949, in Red Lake to Donald and Margaret (Gurneau) Senogles. He graduated in 1969 from Greenway High School in Coleraine. He then began working for the Great Northern Railroad. He served as a paratrooper in the Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Bovey. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for more than 30 years, retiring in October 1997, when he moved back home to Red Lake. His work took him to various locations throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ricing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one uncle.

He is survived by sons Chad, David and Kevin; five grandchildren; brothers Bradley (Alberta) Senogles of Red Lake, Gene (Tamara) Senogles of Marble and Neil (Iris) Senogles of Bovey; sisters Renee Gurneau and Rochelle (Mitchell) Johnson, both of Bemidji; three aunts; and two uncles.
Traditional Indian service: noon Monday in Little Rock Center, Red Lake, followed by a service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake, with the Rev. Pat Sullivan officiating. A wake begins today in the afternoon in the Little Rock Center and continues until the time of service. Burial in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, under the direction of Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Helen S. McVettie
Helen S. McVettie, 88, of Virginia died Friday, July 6, 2001, in the Arrowhead Health Care Center, Virginia.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Monday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia. Burial in Cherry cemetery. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home of Virginia.

Mary Kulseth
Mary Kulseth, 92, of Aitkin died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service today in Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Garrison, the Rev. Curtis Forman officiating. Arrangements by Sorensen Root Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Jeanette "Jean" Eleanor Sundeen Stillwell
Jeanette "Jean" Eleanor Sundeen Stillwell, 77, a lifelong resident of Cloquet, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton, after a long illness.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1923, in Cloquet to Victor and Anna (Skoglund) Sundeen, who were Swedish immigrants. Jean was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in the choir.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ann Johnson, on Sept. 15, 1983.

Jean is survived by daughters Linda (Paul) Rue of Savannah, Ga., and Pamela (David) Keefe of Cohasset, Mass.; grandchildren Eden Rue of Monterey, Calif., John-Paul Rue of Baltimore, Matthew Keefe of Plymouth, N.H., Benjamin Keefe and Emily Keefe, both of Cohasset, Mass., Jessica Kesti of Phoenix; two brothers and a sister, Clarence Sundeen and Lucille Millen, both of Cloquet, and Sherman Sundeen of Oregon.
Service: 11 a.m. today in Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet. Family will receive friends following an interment service in Maple Grove cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements by Barr Brothers-Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet, 879-4636.

Dorothy L. Zack
Dorothy L. Zack, 72, of Cloquet died Friday, May 11, 2001, in her home.
She was born May 28, 1928, in Proctor to Gust and Glady (Clauson) Wagner. Dorothy grew up in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School. She married Lloyd Zack on Nov. 15, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor. Dorothy worked for the telephone company as an operator in Duluth prior to moving to St. Paul in 1959. She and Lloyd moved to Cloquet in July of 2000. Dorothy loved helping people and being with her friends. She also enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Art Wagner; and nephews Greg and Gary Wagner.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; a son, Todd Zack of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; a daughter, Kathy (Terry) Mullen of Cloquet; a sister, Joan (Clayton) Berg of Duluth; and grandchildren Ryan, Keith and Kelly Mullen.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cloquet, the Rev. Dennis Morreim officiating. Honorary pallbearers: Ryan Mullen, Keith Mullen, Jay Zack, John Zack, Jeff Zack, Scott Berg and Mark Berg. Inurnment follows in Maple Grove cemetery.

Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

Muriel "Mickey" Irene Dokken
Muriel I. Dokken, 81, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at her winter home in Harlingen, Texas.
She was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Minneapolis to John and Ethel (Spring) Achey. She later moved to the Grand Rapids area, attended school in Chisholm and later moved back to Grand Rapids, where she graduated from high school.

She was retired from IMC, where she started as a nurse's aide and ended as a computer operator in billing.

She was past vice-president of Minnesota Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, served on the State Community Service Committee, was secretary of Iron Range Labor Association. She was also a charter member of Local 455-AFSCME of Itasca Memorial Hospital, serving as president as well as other offices. She helped initiate the Itasca Public Employees Credit Union and was its first treasurer. She served on the committee that started United Funds of NE Minn and served as secretary and as director. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Eagles of Grand Rapids and the American Legion Auxiliary of Harlingen.

Muriel loved painting, quilting, her children, Bible study and books on tape.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant granddaughter Virkus; and grandson, John Virkus.

She is survived by her husband, Vern; daughters Sally (Philip) Virkus of Gilbert, Pat (Jerry) Tobeck of Dresser, Wis.; sons Henry (Jane) LaPlant of Jordan, Minn., Mike (Kookie) LaPlant of Shakopee, Minn., Tim (Marie) La Plant of Monticello, Minn., Terry (Dorrie) LaPlant of Auburn, Neb.; and a half brother, John Hilback of Wells, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. May 26 in Grand Rapids Mission Alliance Church, the Rev. Randy Junker officiating. Interment in Harris cemetery at a later date.

Ruby B. Tuorila
Ruby B. Tuorila, 76, of Calumet died Friday, May 11, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Rudolph "Rudy"; daughters Rebecca (James) Stoll, Bonnie (Stephen) Todee; sons Larry (Patricia), John (Jill) and Dr. James (Diane) Tuorila; a sister, Betty (George) Paul; three brothers; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday with evening service at 7 in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in United Methodist Church, Pengilly. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.

Genevieve Uidenich
Genevieve Uidenich, 83, of Eveleth died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Eveleth Health Services Park.
Survivors include her husband, Frank of Eveleth; a daughter, Jean Uidenich of Los Angeles; and grandsons Mark and Lance.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Tuesday in Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Burial in Eveleth cemetery.

Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.
