Martha Siiro, 85, of Moose Lake died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Howard (Maude) Anderson; a daughter, Linda Tillman; a sister, Alma Raivio; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the activities room of Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. Private family inurnment in Beaver cemetery. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home.

Darell L. Walters
Darell L. Walters, 65, of Knoxville, Iowa, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Knoxville Community Hospital.
He was born in Hibbing and had worked as a lineman for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Hibbing for 25 years. He had previously lived in Des Moines, Iowa, before moving to Knoxville this past year.

Darell was a member of the Calvary Christian Center, Buena Park, Calif. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Walters of Knoxville; sons Jeff and Kris Walters, both of Hibbing and Jace Walters of Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepson, Nicholas E. Brown of Rochester, Minn.; daughters Sarry Swindle and Molly Mincy of Corinth, Miss.; his mother, Evelyn Walters of Side Lake, Minn.; brothers Charlie Walters of St. Paul, Mel Walters of Chisholm, Les Walters of Hibbing and Dennis "Tex" Walters of Side Lake; sisters Elizabeth Wilenius of Bason, Wyo., Evelyn "Peanut" Zbacnik and Shirley Huntsperger of Minneapolis; and 19 grandchildren.
Visitation: 2-8:30 p.m. today in Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, Iowa, where family will be present to greet friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Service at 10 a.m. Thursday, also in Overton Funeral Home. Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Indianola. Memorials may be designated to the Darell L. Walters Memorial Fund. Arrangements by Overton Funeral Home, 501 W. Ashland Ave., Indianola, IA 50125, (515) 961-5121.

Karin "Carrie" O. Carlson
Karin "Carrie" O. Carlson, 96, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Lake View Home, Two Harbors.
She was born Dec. 10, 1904, in Dalarna, Sweden, to John and Karin (Jernberg) Skoog. She moved to the United States as a child and was raised in Grand Marais. After her marriage to Ernest Carlson, they lived in Wheaton, Ill., and Minneapolis, before returning to Grand Marais and later moving to Two Harbors. She worked at Nunstedt's Resort on the Gunflint Trail, and later as a cook at the Sterling Hotel in Grand Marais and the Board and Care Home in Two Harbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; and sisters and brothers.

Carrie is survived by a son, Robert (Jessie) Carlson of Two Harbors; a sister, Victoria "Tory" Hanson of Two Harbors; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors, where service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.

Quinten Roy Shabaiash
Quinten Roy Shabaiash, infant, was born Friday, July 27, 2001, and died Friday, July 27, 2001.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer, and Grandpa Walt Sr.

He was born to Leroy and Yvonne of Cloquet and is also survived by sister, Stephanie Shabaiash; brothers James Misquadace, and Tyler and Trae Shabaiash; grandparents Eleanor Diver, Lois Shabaiash and Herschel Snowball; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation and services were held Tuesday, July 31, in the family's home in Cloquet. Interment in Old Holy Family cemetery. Pallbearers were Russ Diver and Darrell Shabaiash. Arrangements were handled by Barr Brothers-Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet.

Stanley J. Strgar
Stanley J. Strgar, 70, of Chisholm died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, in University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing, with his family by his side.
He was born May 15, 1931, in Chisholm to Tony and Anna (Zule) Strgar. He was a 1949 graduate of Chisholm High School and was a lifelong Chisholm resident.

Stan retired in 1993 as a carpenter from National Steel Co., after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Chisholm and Knights of Columbus, Chisholm Council 3539. He was an avid community hockey enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and four brothers.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Olga; a daughter, Deborah of Grantsburg, Wis.; a son, Patrick (Karen) of Northport, Ala., sisters Marge Andrican of Hibbing, Helen (Edward) Klakoski of Chisholm and Agnes Shega of Cleveland; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Chisholm, where there will be a combined Knights of Columbus and parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continues from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chisholm, Father Steve Daigle as celebrant. Interment in Chisholm cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to North Star Hospice.

Everett G. Creighton
Everett G. Creighton, 87, of Two Harbors died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, in Lake View Home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1913, to William and Mary Creighton in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and moved to Two Harbors with his family as an infant. He attended schools in Two Harbors, graduating from high school in 1932. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He was employed by the DM&IR; Railway as a pipefitter for 20 years, then worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1977. After his retirement, he enjoyed golfing for many years.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill, Francis and Raymond; and a sister, Marie.

He is survived by his wife, Merna; sons John (Brenda) of Woodstock, Md., and Don (Nancy) of Eagan, Minn.; a daughter, Shirley (Hank) Bauer of Burnsville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Julia A. Bex
Julia A. Bex, 90, of Aurora died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the White Community Hospital in Aurora.
She was born May 19, 1911, in Cologne, S.D., to Frank and Goldie (Miller) Arnold. She was a 1929 graduate of Rock Rapids High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She married Raymond J. Nagel to whom four sons were born. She was a business woman in Aurora for many years. In 1963, she married Kenneth D. Bex in Aurora. Ken preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Raymond and Kenneth; four brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her sons, Paul (Lourine) Nagel of Colorado Springs, Colo., Loren (Arleen) Nagel of Isle, Minn., Donald (Phyllis) Nagel of Marshall, Minn., and William (Edna) Nagel of Aurora; a sister; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepchildren Kendra, Kenneth, Kenton and Kristine; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday in United Methodist Church, Aurora, the Rev. Kermit Solem officiating. Inurnment in Forest Hill cemetery, Aurora. Memorials are preferred to the White Community Hospital Eden Fund. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora.

Jennifer Ann Martin
Jennifer Ann Martin, 21, of Grand Rapids died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
She is survived by her parents, Arthur Jr. and Jayne Martin; a brother, John Martin; a maternal grandmother, Nancy Jensen; paternal grandparents Arthur Sr. and Paddy Martin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids. Burial in Harris cemetery, Harris Township. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home.

August Math, 59, of Aitkin died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in his home.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. today in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin, and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Aitkin United Methodist Church, Aitkin.

Robert "Bob" Donald Romness
Robert "Bob" Donald Romness, 84, of Remer died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud.
He is survived by daughters Katie Baker and Diane Romness; sons Donald and Rich Romness; sisters Helen Barton and Dorothy Eggert; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Rowe Funeral Home, Remer. Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Remer. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Benjamin C. Sislo
Benjamin C. Sislo, 23, of Elkhorn, Wis., died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 6, 2001.
He is survived by his mother, Janice Sislo; his father, Paul (Terrie) Sislo; a daughter, Savanna Ann Sislo; a brother, Chris Sislo; paternal grandparents George and Lorraine Sislo; and a maternal grandmother, Cynthia Todtleben.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Friday in Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial in Roselawn Memory Gardens cemetery.

Richard "Dick" Joynes
Richard "Dick" Joynes, 58, drowned in Clearwater Lake, Grand Marais, Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001.
Richard was born in Duluth on Jan. 21, 1943, to Howard and Rosemary Joynes. He grew up in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School in 1961. He graduated from Rochester Junior College in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Moyer, Feb. 1, 1964, at St. John's Catholic Church in Grand Marais. He was part-owner and managed Joynes' Department Store and Ben Franklin in Grand Marais.

Dick was a member of St. John's Catholic Church; the Grand Marais Lions Club, of which he was past president; and past president of the Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce. He was a loving and devoted "Papa" and especially enjoyed travel with his grandchildren. Holidays were anxiously awaited as Grandpa dressed the part of the appropriate holiday character. Dick had a love for the outdoors; he enjoyed skiing, hiking, biking, curling, camping and canoeing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Joynes, in April 1995; his mother-in-law, Marian Moyer, in September 2000; and his father-in-law, Bill Moyer, in March 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Skip" Joynes; his father, Howard Joynes of Grand Marais; a son, Jim (Leanne) Joynes of Duluth; a daughter, Julie (Rodney) Carlson of Grand Marais; and grandchildren Ryan and Madeline Joynes and Aaron and Nathan Carlson.
Visitation: noon until the 2 p.m. service Friday in St. John's Catholic Church, Grand Marais. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Grand Marais. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
