George Becherer, 72, of Minong died Saturday, July 28, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine; sons Loy (Jill), Lorn, Lance, Lee (Jimmie) and Les (Gretchen); daughters Luan (Scott) Thomson, Lori (Brian) Sorvik and Lisa (Bernard) Lee Jr.; twelve grandchildren; and a sister.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Brown Funeral Home, Minong, and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. celebration of life service Thursday in Calvary Lutheran Church, Minong. Interment in Greenwood cemetery, Minong.

Harry H. Heinkel, Sr.
Harry H. Heinkel, Sr., 66, of Taconite died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; a son, Harry Jr.; a sister, Charlotte Tiedon; brothers Edward and Walter; a grandson, Brett; many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. QL--Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with wake prayer service at 7 p.m. in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine. Interment in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Raymond P. Koski
Raymond P. Koski, 89 of Pengilly, died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife Bertha; daughter Carol Witmarsh; step-daughter Joy Slifer; son John; step-sons Charles Ridlon and Bruce Persig; a sister, Eunice Cave; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Visitation: one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Rowe Funeral Home of Grand Rapids. Interment in Nashwauk Cemetary, Nashwauk.

Walter "Wally" Stegmann
Walter "Wally" Stegmann, 87, of Solon Springs died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine "Bunny"; sons Randall (Helen), Stephen (Lynn), Larry (Karen) and Spike Stegmann; a daughter, Shirley (Richard) Christen; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fritz (Lucille) Stegmann,; and a sister, Zina Schuler.
Visitation: noon until the 2 p.m. service Monday in Brown Funeral Home, Solon Springs. Interment in Evergreen cemetery, Solon Springs.

Bette Janiece Savich
Bette Janiece Savich, 62, of Effie answered God's call Tuesday, July 24, 2001. She died at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Jan was born in her parent's home in Effie on April 9, 1939, and graduated from Bigfork High School in 1957. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and married Buddy Savich in 1958.

Jan was a loving wife and mother and worked as a homemaker while helping Buddy build Savich Hereford Ranch. Among her many activities and jobs were knitting club, 4-H leader, den mother, Avon representative, wreath maker and school bus driver.

Jan's true love was her family, her children and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris, in 1974, and father, Ted, in 1983; and her husband of 38 years, Buddy in 1996.

She is survived by sons Gary Lotton, Buddy John (Janel) and Buddy Jason Savich; daughters Brenda (Doug) Hendrickson and Dana Savich Cowles; brothers Teddy (Marie), Tom (Judy), Conny (Cindy), Rodney (Bonnie) and Brad (Connie); sisters Sheila (Glenn) Bullock and Dawn (Leo) Kern; and grandchildren Laura, Tony, Brian, Philip, Bobbie, Andy, Danny, Kykeshia and baby boy due in September.

We will miss your warm love, your wisdom and your guidance.
Service: 3 p.m. today in Effie Presbyterian Church. Burial in Bigfork cemetery.

Minnie Bixby
Minnie Bixby, 85, of Deer River died Wednesday, July 25, 2001.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service today in Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River. Burial in Olivet cemetery, Morse Township.

Lila Jane Myers
Lila Jane Myers, 64, of Sturgeon Lake died Wednesday, July 25, 2001.
Lila is survived by four children; two brothers; a sister; six grandchildren; her former husband; and many friends.
Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake, and continues from 9 until the 10 a.m. service Monday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Interment at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Mantyla cemetery, Sebeka. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home.

Grace E. Smith
Grace E. Smith, 83, of Grand Marais died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in the North Shore Hospital.
She was born Sept. 17, 1917, to Morse and Ethel (Jenne) Rhea in Moorhead, Minn., and grew up and attended schools in Duluth. She married Stanley Smith in 1935 and moved to the Gunflint Trail. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a fire spotter in the fire towers for many years while she raised her family. After retiring from the Forest Service, she and Stanley owned and operated Seagull Canoe Outfitters and managed the Grand Marais Tourist Park for many years, and later spent their winters in Texas.

Grace was a member of First Congregational Church and its Women's Fellowship, the Cook County Council on Aging and the Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed fishing, camping, painting, swimming, traveling and time with her friends at the Senior Center, but most of all, loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley, in 1985; and sisters Vivian Johnson and Theo Guenther.

Grace is survived by sons George (Doreen) of St. Peter, Minn., Russell (Nancy), Carl (Dianne) and Darrell (Marsha), all of Grand Marais; daughters Donna (Ozzie) Linnell and Robin (Steve) DuChien, both of Grand Marais; sisters Delores Saethre of Grand Marais and Myrtle Berglund of Oregon; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church, Grand Marais. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Grand Marais. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Emily E. Aamlie
Emily E. Aamlie, 91, longtime Nashwauk resident, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
Born Sept. 9, 1909, in Cloverdale, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Tenhunen) Erickson. A resident of the Nashwauk area for most of her life, she was a homemaker and a graduate of Nashwauk High School. She was a member of Nashwauk Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aide and quilting group. Emily and Olaf A. Aamlie were married in Hibbing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Erickson; her husband, Olaf, in 1976; a sister, Mabel Ruuhela; and brothers Ernest and Ervin.

Survivors include a son, Norman C. (Virginia) Aamlie of Chicago; a daughter, Carol (Bill) Carlson of Moose Lake; grandchildren Craig (Jodi) Aamlie of St. Paul; Karen (Kevin) Dickinson of Minneapolis, Gary (Laureen) Carlson of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Gail (Dave) Wangen of Cloquet; great-grandchildren Emily and Abbey Wangen; a sister, Ruth Krom of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a brother, Russell Erickson of Mount Shasta, Ore.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Nashwauk Lutheran Church, the Rev. Jean Megorden officiating. Interment in Nashwauk cemetery. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Rose M. Macher
Rose M. Macher, 91, of Foley, formerly of Hibbing, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Foley Nursing Home.
She had lived in Hibbing her whole life until moving to the Foley Nursing Center in 1992. She had worked at Northwest Airlines during World War II and later was employed as a seamstress for Cluett Peabody & Co. in Chisholm.

She is survived by her caregivers, Walter and Arlene Pederson of St. Cloud.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in the Range Funeral Home, Hibbing, the Rev. Father Peter Muhich officiating. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing.

Gloria J. Williams
Gloria J. Williams, 44, of Hibbing died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She is survived by daughters Nicole (Chris) Adkisson of Kenley, N.C., Stacey King of Kenley, N.C., Margaret Williams of Togo and Rebecca Williams of Togo; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: 3 until the 4 p.m. service Friday in the Range Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Constance Ellen Whaling
Constance Ellen Whaling, 90, of Grand Rapids died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
She is survived by daughters Mary (Linwood) Knight and Kathryn (Douglas) Smith; a son, Patrick; a brother, Bruce "Buck" Scott; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with a wake prayer service at 6 p.m. in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids. Burial in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Clarence G. Svejkovsky
Clarence G. Svejkovsky, 87, of Cloquet died Friday, July 20, 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; brothers Roger and A.J. Svejkovsky; a sister, Lucille Moore; two grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law.
A gathering in memory of Clarence will be held from 1-3 p.m. Thursday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Private family inurnment will be held in Oakwood cemetery, Austin. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

Woodrow W. Wedge
Woodrow W. Wedge, 82, of Keewatin died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
He is survived by sons Jerry (Loretta) of Virginia and Nick (Sarah) of Nashwauk; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Keewatin, the Rev. Ronald Gagne as celebrant. Inurnment in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
