Edwin "Eddy" Lee Hanninen
Edwin "Eddy" Lee Hanninen, 65, of Lake Vermilion-Tower died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Eveleth, the son of Edwin and Violet (Romitelli) Hanninen, and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Eveleth Taconite and was a resident of Eveleth and Lake Vermilion-Tower.

Ed was a member of the former Virginia Moose Lodge and Virginia Elk's Lodge 1003. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ed is survived by his soul mate, Kaye Aronson; daughters Teresa (Mark) Kvan of New Richmond, Wis., and Lisa (Keith) Williams of Makinen; grandchildren; family; and a host of friends.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday in Bauman-Vermilion Funeral Home in Tower, the Rev. Ann Painter officiating.

Raymond A. Christensen
Raymond A. Christensen, 91, of International Falls died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
He is survived by a son, Ron Christensen; grandchildren Rebecca Berry, Scott Christensen, Pam Christensen and Chris Bailey; and a brother, Carl Christensen.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday in Faith United Church of Christ, International Falls. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.

Rayella Dewey
Rayella Dewey, 88, of Birchdale, Minn., died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Littlefork Care Center.
Survivors include sisters Alice Anderson, V. Campos, Jean Weldon and Dorothy Simonson; and a brother, Lloyd Dewey.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Thursday in Birchdale Congregational Church, Birchdale, Minn. Burial in Burnside cemetery, Red Wing. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.

Hanna Rosenberg
Hanna Rosenberg, 81, of International Falls died Saturday, July 21, 2001.
She is survived by sisters Nettie, Lillian and Shirley; and nieces and nephews, Marc, Judi, Elaine and Bethina.
A gathering of friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel, International Falls. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.

Alan D. Ritacco
Alan D. Ritacco, 67, of Eagan, Minn., passed away suddenly Saturday, June 23, 2001.
Al was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be remembered for his giving spirit, kind heart and love for life. He touched so many lives -- his family, children and grandchildren feel so very blessed for all those wonderful years with Dad and Papa. Al's love and laughter lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Go rest in peace, for you are now in a wonderful place.

He was preceded in death by his father and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Ritacco; his mother, Margaret Rossi; children Joel (Sharon) Ritacco, Ron (Kathy) Ritacco, Pat (Cass) Ritacco, Gina (Ted) Samsel and Karin (Pete) Desrocher; 16 grandchildren; sisters June Limmer and Gloria (Ken) Blake; a brother, Robert (Ellen) Ritacco; and many nephews and nieces.
Private services were held in Eveleth. Memorials preferred to Franciscan Retreat House, Conventual Franciscan Friars, 16385 Saint Francis Lane, Prior Lake, MN 55372.

Florence Barringer
Florence Barringer, 85, of Deer River died Sunday, July 22, 2001.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service today in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Deer River. Burial in Olivet cemetery, Morse Township. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

Beverly L. Shaw
Beverly L. Shaw, 75, of Deer River died Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Deer River.
She was born March 24, 1926, in St. Paul. Bev attended the University of Minnesota School of Medical Technology, where she met her husband, Paul. They moved to Deer River, where they lived for over 50 years, raising their children in the community. Bev was very active in the church and the Deer River community for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy McCord.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; children Susan (Roland) Nyberg of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nancy of Aurora, Colo., Laura (Pat) Schnobrich of Hermantown, Andy (Paula) Shaw of Deer River and Pete (Tammy) of Fargo, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Bev is also survived by a sister, Nancy Sargent of Mendota Heights, Minn., and her five children and families.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service today in Bethany Lutheran Church, Deer River, the Rev. Dwight Rudquist officiating. Memorials preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church Building Fund or Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

David Kemp Bateman
David Kemp Bateman, 62, of Virginia died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Jessica (Paul) Winkelaar; sons Jeremy and Benjamin; his mother, Bernice; a brother, Robert (Marilyn); an aunt, Mary (Jim) Colosimo; an uncle, Ernest Komatar; two goddaughters; and many dear relatives and friends.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert.

Lewis Williams
Lewis Williams, 86, of Aitkin died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was owner of the True Value Hardware in Aitkin.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Sunday with prayers at 7 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. Monday, all in Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, Aitkin. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Axel A. Mettala
Axel A. Mettala, 88, of Iron River and formerly of Oulu, Wisc., died Wednesday, May 9, 2001.
He is survived by a son, Richard (Diane) Mehtala; daughters Edna (George) Johnson and Doris (Ronald) Johnson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A private family graveside service and inurnment in Hillcrest cemetery will take place at a later date. Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carroll Luverne "Lindy" Schloesser
Carroll Luverne "Lindy" Schloesser, 76, longtime resident of Hibbing died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, LaMae (Belschner); 10 children; three sisters; 33 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home, Hibbing, and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hibbing. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Hibbing.

Curtis J. Liesmaki
Curtis J. Liesmaki, 55, of Cherry died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in his home following a fight with cancer.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday, all in Faith United Lutheran Church, Iron. Burial in Cherry cemetery. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home, Virginia.

Erin Lee Swieringa
Erin Lee Swieringa, 35, of Prairie du Sac, Wis., formerly of Vermilion Lake Township, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Baribu, Wis., as a result of a kayaking accident.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Embarrass Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial in the Town of Vermilion Lake cemetery. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home of Virginia.

Mella F. Lubovich
Mella F. Lubovich, 86, of Marble died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Marble to Dominick and Mary (Leoane) Sarica. A lifelong resident of Marble, she was a 1933 graduate of Greenway High School. Mella and Mike Lubovich were married July 18, 1936, in Marble.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marble.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominick and Mary Sarica; and a sister, Theresa Altobell.

Survivors include her husband, Mike; daughters JoAnn (Leonard) Peluso of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Mickie (Bill) Durheim of Hackensack, Minn.; grandchildren Brenda, Bill, Kris, Vickie, Pam and Lisa; great-grandchildren Ben, Samantha, Mindy, Nicole, Ashly, Kayla and David; and a sister, Josephine Harling of Marble.
Mass of Christian burial: 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marble. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.
