LEONARD KEDROWSKI
Leonard Kedrowski, 79, of Cromwell passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, in Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Barr Brothers-Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Ave., Cloquet, 879-4636. A complete obituary will be in Monday's edition of this paper.

EVELYN M. MCKAY-NELSON
Evelyn M. McKay-Nelson, 85, of Somerset, Wis., formerly of Glen, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in her home in Somerset.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today with prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in First Lutheran Church, Aitkin, the Rev. Winfield Johnson, Brother Jim Crockett and the Rev. Larry Forsberg officiating. Burial in the Malmo cemetery. Arrangements by Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

BEATRICE M. MOSTOLLER
Beatrice M. Mostoller, 99, of Grand Rapids peacefully went to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in Leisure Hills Care Center, Grand Rapids.
She was born March 13, 1902, in Forest Lake, Minn., to Thomas and Sarah (Figgins) Mostoller. She moved with her family to North Dakota in 1906 and to Warba in 1911. She graduated from Young and Hursch Business College in 1927, and worked at Itasca County Courthouse for many years, where she retired as deputy treasurer in 1967.

Bea was a long-time member of Grace Bible Chapel, taught Sunday school and Bible school and was assistant Sunday School secretary-treasurer. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Itasca Medical Center.

Beatrice was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by a sister, Hazel Rostvit of Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Libbey Funeral Home. Service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Bible Chapel. Burial in Warba-Feeley cemetery, Warba. Arrangements by Libbey Funeral Home, (218) 326-4000.

ROBERT L. OLSON
Robert L. Olson, 70, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Eveleth, grew up and attended several Minnesota schools including University of Minnesota Duluth and Eveleth Junior College. Mr. Olson received a football scholarship at North Dakota University. He also attended electronic school in the Navy. He had been a resident of Salem for the past 40 years, formerly of Somerville, Mass. He worked as a security guard for Digital Equipment Corp., formerly of Salem. He also worked for Lawrence Maid Footware, and Buyrite Foods in Lawrence, Mass. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was an active member of the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem.

He is survived by his wife, E. Louise (Richmond) Olson of Salem; sons Carl M. (Mary Beth) Olson of Salem and Craig A. Olson of San Francisco; a daughter, Cheryl A. (Kevin) Carney of Derry, N.H.; a brother, Dale Olson of Sun City West, Ariz.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday in Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church. At the family's request there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, 171 Zion Hill Road, Salem, NH 03079.

DAVID LAWSON SMITH
David Lawson Smith, 62, of San Francisco died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, after a brief illness.

He was born July 14, 1939, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Raymond and Marion Smith. David was raised in Cloquet and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1957. He received a full scholarship to Dartmouth College and later graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. He became dean of students at Quincy College in Illinois and later was assistant professor of sociology and statewide coordinator of the Administration of Justice program at the University of Missouri. There, he met Charles Gaines, who would become San Francisco's chief of police under Mayor George Moscone. Dave joined him in San Francisco and helped liberalize the San Francisco Police Department. Dave had a major role in bringing sensitivity trainings to the police department regarding all minorities.

For the past 27 years, Dave worked for the New College of California Law School, serving on the board of trustees, as law librarian and director of development. He also worked with CURA, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center; and with the National Center for Indian Justice. David was an excellent writer, a master of the art of networking, a brilliant and quick-witted man who liked to help people find what they were looking for.

David was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt, Ruth Buchan; former brother-in-law, Gary Carlson; and a half brother, Paul Alan Smith.

David is survived by a sister, Lucy Carlson of Cloquet; a brother, Don Smith of Duluth; his beloved niece, Cassandra Carlson-Vergona of Duluth; and very special friend, Susan Lowe of New Mexico.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WAS HELD Oct. 27 in the Chapel of the New College of California. Memorial contributions may be made to: New College of California, 40 Fell St., San Francisco, CA 94102, in care of the David Smith Scholarship Fund.

MARY E. MCKIBBON
Mary E. McKibbon, 81, of Carlton died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in her home following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 20, 1920, in Webster City, Iowa, to Walter and Ella (Heller) Essig. She moved to the Barnum area as an infant and attended schools there. She was united in marriage with Clarence McKibbon on May 23, 1942. Clarence preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage. She was employed for several years at Garon Knitting Mills in Duluth and retired from the Carlton Nursing Home in 1982. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lyle Essig; a sister, Kathryn Skoglund; and a granddaughter, Maria Schneider.

She is survived by daughters, Sandra (Mike) Duffy of Cloquet, Sharon (Jim) Schneider of Carlton and Carolyn McKibbon of Carlton; grandchildren Nathan, Kara and Jacob Duffy; Jamie Schneider and Dawn (Kevin) Johnson; special friends Shirley and Gordon Schubert of Esko; and honorary grandchildren, Nick and Adam Schubert. A special thank you to Dr. Joy McGruder, St. Luke's Hospice Care, friends and family for their support, prayers, and many kindnesses.
SERVICE: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Nelson Funeral Care Chapel, Cloquet, the Rev. Jeff Walther officiating. Interment services follow in Hillside cemetery, Carlton. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

CLARENCE HANFORD SUNDEEN
Clarence Hanford Sundeen, 95, of Cloquet died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet.
He was born Aug. 9, 1906, in Cloquet to Victor and Antonia (Johnson) Sundeen. On March 29, 1930, he married Iris Blake. Clarence was a painter his entire life until retiring in 1973. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 71 years, Iris, of Cloquet; a son, Paul (Sandra) of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Jeanne Kojo of Cloquet; a brother, Sherman (June) of Vancouver, Wash.; and a sister, Lucille (Ralph) Millen of Carlton; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet, and continuing from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet. Burial in Motley cemetery, Motley, Minn. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.

PETER "KIP" MAJESKI
Peter "Kip" Majeski, 52, of Knife River died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1948, to Frank and June (O'Brien) Majeski in Superior, where he grew up and attended schools. He worked at National Foods, Super One Foods in Superior and later in Two Harbors until 1996. He had made his home in Knife River since 1972. He recently had been attending Fond du Lac Community College to be a chemical dependency counselor, and was honored as Student of the Quarter.

Kip was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its parish council, Two Harbors Youth Hockey, Minnesota Deerhunters, Knife River Recreation Council and Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved fishing and hunting, and will be remembered for his whistling while he worked.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patty Scheer; and a daughter, Anna.

Kip is survived by his wife, Patti; a son, Brian (Michelle) of Duluth; daughters Jennifer (Paul) Palusky of Saginaw and Carolyn Majeski at home; sisters Lindy Stein of Solon Springs and Sue Amys of Lake Nebagamon; and grandchildren Alyssa Majesky and Ethan, Noah and Connor Palusky.
Visitation: 6 until the 8 p.m. wake prayers today in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors. Mass of Christian burial at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.

HELEN SOPHIA BASTIEN
Helen Sophia Bastien, 88, of Cloquet died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Community Memorial Hospital-Convalescent Care Section, Cloquet.
Helen was born Jan. 19, 1913, to Ernest and Marianne (Prestmo) Johnson in Scanlon. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Adlore Bastien; infant son Michael Bastien; brothers Arne, Arnold, Edward and John Johnson; and a sister, Agnes Hella.

Helen is survived by sons Duane (Yvonne) Bastien, John (Becky) Bastien, Charles Bastien and Elroy Bastien; daughters Roberta Osborne, Janet (Sherman) Liimatainen and Cynthia (James) Skagerberg; a sister, Edna (Rudy) Anderson; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Sunday in Nelson Funeral Care Chapel, Cloquet, Deacon Terry Twomey officiating. A luncheon will be served in the Nelson Funeral Care reception area following the service. Inurnment in New Calvary cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

HELEN S. NELSON
Helen S. Nelson, 91, of Cloquet died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Community Memorial Hospital-Convalescent Care Section.
SERVICES will be scheduled next week in Zion Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

VIOLET H. CHOPP
Violet H. Chopp, 85, of Virginia died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in the Buchanan Nursing Home, Chisholm.
She was born July 8, 1916, in Virginia to Gabriel and Alma (Liljenfeldt) Ostman and had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Virginia High School, and on June 4, 1938, she married Frank J. Chopp in Virginia. Violet was a homemaker and a member of Gethesemane Evangelical Lutheran in Virginia.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank, on Jan. 6, 1990; and brothers Thorsten, Gilbert, Robert and Albert Ostman.

Survivors include her children, Richard Chopp and Susan (James) Marcucci, both of Virginia; a brother, Kenneth (Sylvia) Ostman of Edina, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Florence Ostman of Virginia.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Monday in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, Virginia, the Rev. Clarence Schaffner officiating. Arrangements by Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.
