IZAAK GARRETT-JAMES VILLENEUVE-SOULE
Izaak Garrett-James Villeneuve-Soule, 13-day old infant son of Michael Soule and Regina Villeneuve of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001.
Besides his parents, Izaak is survived by a sister, Tattum Rae Villeneuve; grandparents Greg and Carol Cartie, John Villeneuve, and Jim and Pat Soule; great-grandparents Anna Soule, Marian Scheper, Helen Pfeifer, Doris Hron and Louis Lenk; an uncle; aunts; and cousins.
SERVICE:2 p.m. Wednesday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Burial in Harris Township cemetery.

MICHAEL STEVE LERITZ
Michael Steve Leritz, 88, of Cloquet died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Nopeming Nursing Home, Midway Township.
He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Sept. 20, 1913, to Matt and Katherine (Stucker) Leritz. As an infant, Michael and his family moved to Menahga, Minn. Later, on Oct. 28, 1939, Michael married Adeline Clark. He worked as a logger and a dairy farmer until moving to Cloquet in 1955. Michael worked for Diamond Match until his retirement in 1976. His hobbies include splitting wood, gardening and walking.

Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Nick, Joe and Matt; an infant sister; an infant grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline; sons Michael (LaVonna) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Gerald (Geraldine) of Wrenshall, Larry of Florida, and Donald (Lori) and Ronald (Sue), both of Kenai, Alaska, and Jack (Brenda) of Moose Lake; daughters JoAnn (John) Aili of Alborn and Bonnie (Mike) Mackey of Esko; sisters Mary Leritz of Bozman, Mont., and Margaret Koski of Menahga; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation: 1:30 until the 2:30 p.m. service today in Barr Brothers Handevidt Funeral Home. Burial in Maple Grove cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements by Barr Brothers Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Ave., Cloquet.

ERNEST "ERNIE" L. MORSE
Ernest "Ernie" L. Morse, 91, of Kettle River died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in his home.
He was born on July 10, 1910, in Cloquet to Charles and Minnie (Waldoff) Morse. He lived in St. Paul before moving to Askov in 1945. He moved to Kettle River in 1956, where he had since resided. In 1934, he married Pearl Bertrand in McGregor, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Ernie and Pearl were foster parents and opened their home to more than 50 foster children. Ernie was a farmer and also worked on highway construction in Alaska, at the wood conversion plant in Cloquet, and with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Moose Lake.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; his son, Lowell; his parents; three brothers; and a sister.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Simcox of Kettle River; foster sons Donald and Michael Nahgahnub of Kettle River; a sister, Nina Deyo of St. Charles; sisters-in-law, Josephine Morse of St. Paul, Pearl Morse of Mitchell, S.D., and Rosemary Morse of St. Paul; grandchildren Kaysie (Mark) Korhonen of Kettle River, David Simcox of Atkinson, William Morse of California and Elizabeth Skinner of California; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial Mass today in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Spring interment at Woodland cemetery, McGregor. Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone.

GUNDA A. PORTER
Gunda A. Porter, 95, a former Dent, Minn.-area resident, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
Born Dec. 10, 1906, in Norway, she was the daughter of John and Olga (Olson) Rosendahl. Gunda came to the United States as an infant and attended Pelican Rapids schools. She lived most of her life in the Dent area, married Cecil R. Porter on June 11, 1930, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., had lived in Fergus Falls, Minn., and was a Grand Rapids resident since 1993.

Gunda had attended the Dent United Methodist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Olga Rosendahl; her husband, Cecil R. Porter, in 1992; a son, Gene "Pat" Porter in 1987; four brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Jane (Peter) Meyer of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Dent United Methodist Church, Dent. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery in Fergus Falls. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

JAMES E. PIERRE
James E. Pierre, 71, of Esko died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Muskegon, Mich., to Swedish immigrant parents. He grew up in Minneapolis, lived in Bloomington for 22 years, and since 1978 he had lived in Esko. Jim worked for International Harvester for many years and later was a bus driver for the Proctor school system. Jim was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Northwoods United Methodist Church in Esko.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Esther Pierre.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Anna; children Anita (Mark) Kelly, Roland (Christina), Robert (Tammy), Laura (David) Dahl, Roger (Karen) and Joanie (Noel) Pierre; and 16 grandchildren.

DARLINE GEORGIA
WOODRING
Darline Georgia Woodring, 64, of Sturgeon Lake died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
She was born June 20, 1937, in Arthyde, Minn., the daughter of David and Anne (Lundberg) Woodring. Darline was active in the deaf community, was a member of Beaver Evangelical Lutheran Church, and enjoyed reading and studying about flowers and religions.

Darline was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, David and Janet Woodring; her brother, James Woodring; her sister, Shirley Albrecht; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her mother, Anne Francis of Sturgeon Lake; sons Steven Timonen of Sturgeon Lake and Clarence Timonen of West Fork, Ark.; daughters Vicki Ferry-Day and Lauretta Timonen-Perry, both of Fayetteville, Ark., Robin Simpson of Sturgeon Lake and Annette Timonen of West Fork; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

MARGARET ELEANOR
OESTREICH JOHNSON
Margaret Eleanor Oestreich Johnson, 85, of Coleraine died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born in Coleraine on April 8, 1916, to Mabel and Al Oestreich. She was a graduate of Greenway High School and attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned a degree in business administration.

She married Norman Johnson on July 6, 1940, and they lived in Madison until moving to Coleraine in 1952. She worked in the office at Coleraine Village Hall and later as a secretary for the Oliver Mining Co., and for School District 316. She returned to college in 1964, earning a bachelor's degree in education from Bemidji State University. She taught business in the vocational department at Itasca Junior College and then at Greenway High School until her retirement in 1978.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and an organizing member of the Coleraine Log Church Preservation Committee. She belonged to a group of nine friends called the "Henny Niners," whose friendship has endured for more than 70 years. She loved flower gardening, watching and feeding birds, picking blueberries, and spending time at her Hartley Lake cabin with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman, in 1955; and a special aunt, Hazel Hawn, in 1987.

She is survived by two daughters, Margit (Clarence) Asmus of Monroe, Wis., and Lieschen (Darrel) Hecimovich of Bovey; a son, Cavour (Bobbi) of Coleraine; three grandchildren, Brian Asmus of Peshtigo, Wis., Liana Asmus of Madison, and Amy Asmus of Oshkosh, Wis.; brothers Gerald (Audrey) Oestreich of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Bob (Mary) Oestreich of Des Moines, Wash.; seven nieces and nephews; and many friends.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Church, Coleraine. Memorials preferred to Itasca Nursing Home Special Care Unit II or the Coleraine Log Church Preservation Fund. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, (218) 245-1441.

MELVIN LINNELL
Melvin Linnell, 62, of Grand Marais died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in North Shore Hospital.
He was born Nov. 25, 1939, to Roy and Ethel (Annett) Linnell in Mineral Center. He grew up in Mineral Center and Oregon and later moved to Grand Marais. He enjoyed working for the Grand Marais City Park for many years and liked to travel.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service today in Cavallin Funeral Home, Grand Marais. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Grand Marais.

FRANCES NEWCOMB
Frances Newcomb, 81, of Stillwater, Minn., formerly of Parkville, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Stillwater.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Range Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial in Greenwood cemetery, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

MARY A. MARGO
Mary A. Margo, 89, of Chisholm died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in her residence.
Survivors include her children, Richard Margo, Judith Herbert and Marcia McKenzie; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chisholm. Interment in Chisholm cemetery. Arrangements by Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Chisholm.

BERNICE D. GIBEAU
Bernice D. Gibeau, 86, of Cohasset died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She was born Oct. 1, 1915, to Joseph and Delia (Sordiff) Lefebvre in Stephens, Minn. She grew up in Crookston, and Saskatchewan, Canada, and Bernice also attended St. Joseph's Academy in Canada. On Feb. 27, 1933, Bernice was married to Arthur P. Gibeau at Oklee, Minn., and in 1953, they moved from Oklee to Cohasset. Her husband, Arthur, died in 1994, after 60 years of marriage.

Bernice was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Cohasset, and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Diede; sons Donald and Charles "Carlo"; a grandson, Jeff Carpenter; a great-grandson, Tim Nelson; seven sisters; and four brothers.

Bernice is survived by her daughters, Gail (Tom) Carpenter and Eileen (Roger) Harrison, both of Grand Rapids; son Robert "Bob" Jo Gibeau of LaPrairie, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with 6:30 p.m. wake prayer service and Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Cohasset. Burial in Wildwood cemetery, Cohasset. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.
