KENNETH L. JOHNSON
Kenneth L. Johnson, 61, of rural Bovey died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Born July 12, 1940, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Richard and Bernice (Hanson) Johnson. He graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine. Kenneth was a self-employed logger.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and brother Donald.
Survivors include his father, Richard of Jacobson, Minn.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine, Pastor Leonard Palkki officiating. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel.
TYLER JAMES NYGREN
Tyler James Nygren, 2, of Gilbert died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his mother, Melissa Zakrajshek Nygren of Kalispell, Mo.; maternal grandparents Betty and Fritz Lundin of Orr; paternal grandparents Paul and Gene Freyholtz of Gheen; maternal great-grandmother Mabel Udovich of International Falls; paternal great-grandmother Mary Fischer of Gheen; and foster parents Dwayne and Trudi Roth of Gilbert.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. funeral Saturday in Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook. Interment in St. Bridget's cemetery, Greaney, Minn.
MARY YELLOVICH
Mary Yellovich, 72, of Virginia died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Tuesday in Range Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial in Forbes cemetery at a later date.
EINO V. KAJALA
Eino V. Kajala, 86, of Biwabik died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the White Community Hospital, Aurora.
He was born Nov. 21, 1915, to Victor and Hilma Kajala in Belgrade Location, Minn. He was a 1935 graduate of Biwabik High School and later attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Eino worked for the Biwabik Mine and later married
Hilma Ahlstrand on July 11, 1942, in Virginia. He worked for Erie Mining Co. and retired from there in 1977 as a welding foreman. Eino was a past member of the Biwabik School Board and Biwabik Steelworkers Union.
Eino was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a son, Dr. George Kajala in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hilma; a daughter, Linda (Paul) Orazem of Isle, Minn.; daughter-in-law Margaret Kajala of Virginia; grandchildren Steven Kajala of Angora, Minn., and Joe and Bob Orazem, both of Isle; and great-grandchildren Tate and Rainy Orazem, both of Isle. Eino also enjoyed his many nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Aurora, Deacon Donald Stauty officiating. Inurnment in Lakeside cemetery, Biwabik. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora.

Bette Janiece Savich, 62, of Effie died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in her home.

Charles "Chuck" Raymond Mesia
Charles "Chuck" Raymond Mesia, 69, of Cherry died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at home with his family present.
Chuck was born Aug. 28, 1931, to Charles "Kalle" and Elisa Mesia in Cherry. He grew up and attended school in Cherry. Chuck was a veteran of the Korean War. After his military service, he returned to Cherry, where he met and subsequently married
Joy Liedloff on July 14, 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ole Mesia; and his sister, Mae Hakola.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Mesia; sons Charles (Mary Kaye) Mesia of Cherry, Michael (Sue) Mesia of Cherry and Steven (Anna) Mesia of Randall, Minn.; a daughter, Kay L. Mesia (John) Blauert of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren Kerri, Lisa, Lacey, Courtney, Logan, Kayla, Taylor, Brooklyn, and Mikey; a sister, Mary Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

Mary A. Nornberg Jr.
Mary A. Nornberg Jr., 89, of Chisholm died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Virginia Convalescent Center.
She was born March 25, 1912, in Chisholm to John A. and Mary (Pahule) Smoltz. She was a 1930 graduate of Chisholm High School and received her degree in education from St. Cloud State Teachers College. She was a lifelong Chisholm resident.
Mary worked as a special needs teacher at Range Day Care Center in Chisholm and as a caterer, and was the chief financial officer of Nornberg Flooring. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm, S.N.P.J. Lodge and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Her passion was cooking and being with people. Her generosity was unlimited.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max J. on May 12, 1977; and a brother, Frank Smoltz.
Survivors include her children, Maxine (George) Semchuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and Jon (Sharon Grosh) Nornberg of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren Jon and Joel Semchuk, Gina Sunderland and Christopher Nornberg; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, John Smoltz of Detroit; a sister, Fran (Mike) Margo of Chisholm; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The immediate family wants to thank the staff at Virginia Convalescent Center for 50 months of exceptional care and all the friends and family who visited her.

Mary J. Plesha
Mary J. Plesha, 86, of Virginia died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Virginia Convalescent Center.
She was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Eveleth to Jacob and Josephine (Carr) Janesich. She graduated from Eveleth High School and married
John J. Plesha on Aug. 4, 1936, in Eveleth. She was a longtime Virginia resident and worked at Brown Drug Store, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, KSKJ Lodge 59, ZAS Lodge 1 and the Degree of Honor Protective Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Josephine Anderson, Molly Spehar and Agnes Matko; and a brother, Jack Janesich.
Survivors include her husband, John of Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held. Interment in Eveleth cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.
Myrtle A. Merfeld
Myrtle A. Merfeld, 86, of Cloquet passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Cloquet Community Memorial Nursing Care Section.
She was born Aug. 31, 1914, to Halvor and Gertrude Halvorson. Myrtle was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who provided to her family and friends. She was a hard worker and was formerly employed at Diamond Match Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Merfeld; a son, Terry Merfeld; brothers Henry, Adolf and Carl; and a sister, Gertrude.
Myrtle is survived by her grandchildren, Andy (Brandi), Benji, Charlie and Danny, all of Ely; brothers Elmer Halvorson of Cloquet and Melvin Halvorson of Idaho; daughter-in-law Pat Merfeld; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. August 1 in Wefelmeyer-Handevidt Funeral Home, 1506 Washington Ave., Cloquet, (218) 879-6741. Interment in Maple Grove cemetery. Family will receive friends following the service and burial in the fellowship area of the funeral home.
Joseph "Ed" Bonner
Joseph "Ed" Bonner, 73, of Town of Highland died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons James (Laurie) Bonner, Raymond (Bridget) DeGraef and Patrick (Lora) DeGraef; daughters Debra (James) McDonnell, Vickie Swanson and Louise (Patrick) Baldwin; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.
Memorial service of remembrance: 11 a.m. Friday in Brown Funeral Home, Solon Springs.
Kenneth Leroy Himango
Kenneth Leroy Himango, 63, of Mobile, Ala., died Monday, July 23, 2001, at a Mississippi hospital.
Kenneth was a native of Minnesota and a retired Navy veteran.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Leroy Himango Jr. of Mobile; brothers George Himango and Mike Himango, both of Minnesota; and a sister, Ruth Himango Vosahio of Grand Bay.
Service: 11:30 a.m. today with full military honors at the Pavilion in Biloxi National cemetery.
Elsie M. Johnson
Elsie M. Johnson, 73, of Cook died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in the Cook Nursing Home.
She had lived in Buyck, Orr and Sturgeon Township.
She is survived by a son, James Tossova of Aurora; a daughter, Mary Ann Farrington of Virginia; a brother, Eli Kemppainien; sisters Ruth, Ellen and Sylvia; grandchildren Rob, Leslie and Julie; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Service: 1 p.m. Friday in Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook, the Rev. Reuben Rosnau officiating. Interment in Chisholm cemetery.
