BELINDA A. L'HEUREUX
Belinda A. L'Heureux, 92, of Melrude died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in the Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center of Duluth.
She was born Oct. 5, 1909, to Andrew and Mary (Strand) Breckey in Maynard, Minn. She lived in Tioga, N.D., International Falls and Melrude.

A daughter, Linda Rohlf, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Inez Caple of Duluth and JoAnn (Harold) Caviness of Windom, Minn.; sons Donald (Gladys) Chrislock of Chula Vista, Calif., and Richard (Beth) Chrislock of Ranier, Minn.; son-in-law, Robert Rohlf of Virginia; grandchildren Alan (Arlene) Caple, Joe (Jerri) Caple, Ben (Janet) Caple, John (Marge) Caple, Wendy (Tony) Debiase, Ray Caviness, Randy (Cathy) Caviness, David (Paula) Caviness, Janice Caviness, Donald Chrislock, Kenny Chrislock, Pam (Les) Finney, Penny Friesz, Bill Chrislock, Rick Chrislock, Heidi Chrislock, Lynn Rohlf and Dean (Leslie) Rohlf; 38 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Range Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial in Riverside cemetery, Melrude.

ANTON J. STRUNA
Anton J. Struna, 77, of Ely died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in the Arrowhead Health Care Center in Eveleth.
He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Ely to Anton and Justina (Rutar) Struna. Tony worked as a diesel mechanic for more than 42 years, starting for U.S. Steel at the Pioneer Mine in Ely and later for Minntac, retiring from there. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, working as a mechanic on 747s.

Tony will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He fully appreciated what Mother Nature provided and from that appreciation came the avid woodsman and sportsman he was.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Christina Struna; his wife and mother of his children, Elma Rachel Perttula Struna; brothers John and Martin Struna.

Survivors include daughters Loretta Folz of West Palm Beach, Fla., Toni (Dan) Theel of Embarrass and Terri (Michael) Knox of Brooksville, Fla.; sons Ned Struna of South Bend, Ind., and Jon Struna of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sisters Mary (William) Boitz of Ely, Anna (Mickey) Myre of Tower, Molly Loshe of Pine River, Minn., and Tina (George) Bahem of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, Joe (Lois) Struna of Ely; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Friday in Kerntz Funeral Chapel with Deacon Greg Hutar officiating.

THEODORA "TEDDY" WILLIAMS
Theodora "Teddy" Williams, 93, of Barnum died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
She was born July 21, 1908, in Waseca, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Anna (Graupman) Thieling. Teddy married Fletcher Ames on Nov. 22, 1927. After his death in February 1950, she married Edward Williams in 1952.

Teddy was a telephone operator for 23 years for Northwestern Bell in Grand Rapids. She was a member of the Deer River VFW Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers, and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Barnum. Teddy enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fletcher; her second husband, Edward, in May 1979; brothers Louis, Fred and Leroy Thieling; and sisters Ruth Rice and Gertrude Skoglund.

Teddy was deeply loved and will be missed by her sons, James (Lucille) Ames of Spring Lake Park, Minn., and Robert (Patricia) Ames of Hartland, Wis.; a brother, Gilbert (Eileen) Thieling of Barnum; sisters Cecelia Bowman of California and Marjorie (Enard) Paulson of Barnum; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Barnum. Interment at 3 p.m. Friday in Itasca Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.

EDWARD ARNOLD OLLILA
Edward Arnold Ollila, 83, of Cloquet died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Community Memorial Nursing Home, Cloquet.
He was born March 29, 1918, in Cloquet to Jacob and Melita (Penttila) Ollila. Edward was 7 months old at the time of the 1918 fire. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Esko in 1936. He married Laura Heikkila on Nov. 18, 1939. Edward trained and worked as a machinist at Conwed for several years before he and his wife, Laura, owned and operated Ollila Lumber and Marine on Highway 33 North of Cloquet. Ed worked in real estate for Galeski in Duluth and later for Dennis Sorenson Realty.

Edward was a member of the National Rifle Association; he was a firearms safety instructor and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ed and Laura enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Vermillion Narrows, off Crane Lake in Ontario.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Laura, in 1994; and a nephew, Mickey Skarp, in 1968.

Ed is survived by his sisters, Ethel (Earl) Skarp of Cloquet and Shirley Johnson of Floodwood; brother Harold Ollila of Helena, Mont.; nieces Erlana (James) Biskey of Duluth, Bonita Peterson of Barnum, Gaylene (Richard) Walsh of Saginaw and Lynette Tillman of Floodwood; a nephew, Leland Johnson of Floodwood; and his special sister-in-law, Sally (Rolland) Crider of Donna, Texas.
A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.

MATTHEW MAYERLE
Matthew Mayerle, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was a retired high school teacher and coach.

Matt was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Ely to Rudolph and Anna Vranesich Majerle, who are deceased. He was married to Mildred Riikola on Feb. 26, 1943. Matt was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School and Ely Junior College, where he excelled in basketball and football, serving as one of the original Iron Men. During World War II, he served in the Navy SeaBees in the South Pacific for three years. Following the war, he returned to work in the Zenith Mine. He then went to the University of Minnesota Duluth to receive his bachelor's degree. He became a high school teacher and coach in St. Louis, Atwater and Winthrop, Minn. Upon retiring, he returned to live in Ely and Mesa, Ariz. Matt was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Majerle Brobin; and brother Rudolph Majerle.

Matt is survived by his wife, Mildred; his daughter, Kathleen (Jerald) Edwards of Colorado Springs; his brother, Joseph Majerle; and several nieces and nephews.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held next summer in Grace Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

RICHARD T. PETERSEN
Richard T. Petersen, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in the North Shore Hospital, Grand Marais, after a brief battle with cancer.
Richard was born Jan. 22, 1932. He served in the Naval Reserve for eight years, and during that period, Richard married Elizabeth Lynn Rosso in Minneapolis on July 5, 1952, with whom he had seven children, three of whom died in infancy. He retired from his career with Honeywell in 1987, shortly thereafter moving to Cook County, Minn., to pursue his love of hunting, fishing and trekking around the north woods.

A 29-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he helped and was helped by the family of members. His sobriety, retirement and northern relocation instilled a zest for life that was amazing. Richard shared both the skills and the products of a post-retirement interest in wood carving with friends and strangers alike. His love of wife and family, especially grandchildren, and his abiding faith in God remained with him to his last breath.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Florence Petersen; grandson Sean Petersen; sisters-in-law Donna Petersen and Laurel Ashley Petersen; and brother-in-law James Haslinger.

Richard is survived by his wife, Loretta Bloomquist; sons Richard (Carol) of Palmdale, Calif., and Robert (Vivian) of Elk River, Minn.; daughters Kathryn (Norman) DesLauriers of Denver and Jeanne (Tom) Satrang of Andover, Minn.; stepchildren Leonard (Debbie) Bloomquist, Kim Dunsmoor and Carmen (David) Smith, all of Grand Marais; brothers Donald Petersen of Tarzana, Calif., David (Jane) of Duluth, and Marvin (Margie) of Pasadena, Calif.; sisters Phyllis Petersen of Minneapolis and MaryAnn Haslinger of Fountain Valley, Calif.; grandchildren Melissa, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Jacob, Alyssa, James, Alexander and Cullen; step-grandchildren Amanda, Heather, Shannah, Cody, Frederick and Garrett; 11 nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was loved and will be missed by all.
SERVICE: 1 p.m. Friday in St. John's Catholic Church, Fifth Street and Broadway, Grand Marais.

ANTON J. ZGONC
Anton J. Zgonc, 86, of Hibbing died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, in his residence.
He was born May 10, 1915, in Chisholm to John and Anna (Weiss) Zgonc. Anton was a 1933 graduate of Chisholm High School. He married Helen A. Reed on Sept. 17, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm. They lived in Chisholm for 10 years, and have been Kelsey residents for the past 47 years. Anton worked as a section foreman for the Great Northern Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1977.

Anton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Gerald (Cindy) of Chisholm; daughters Karen Holst of Savage, Minn., and Loraine (Ed) Valla of Hibbing; a brother, Charlie of Chisholm; grandchildren Don, Gary and Jeff McKay, and Lynn Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm, the Rev. James Hauver of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating. Interment in Riverside cemetery, Kelsey.

JOSEPH M. NOVAK
Joseph M. Novak, 48, of Zim died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Saturday in the home of Dennis and Tina Rotness, 410 N.W. Seventh St., Chisholm. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home.

PHYLLIS L. HYYTINEN KALLROOS
Phyllis L. Hyytinen Kallroos, 78, of Aitkin died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Riverwood Health Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin, and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in First Lutheran Church, Aitkin, the Rev. Jason Talsness officiating. Burial in Rabbit Lake cemetery, near Aitkin.

JOANNE CARROLL
Joanne Carroll, 62, of Mora died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in her home.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ogilvie, Minn. Arrangements by Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.
