DARLENE K. LINT
Darlene K. Lint, 64, of Bovey died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, with her granddaughter, Heidi Lint as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Mora, Minn.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Ernie Hummel) Thompson; a son, Brad (Janet Litchke) Lint; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday in Grand Rapids Alliance Church. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

JOAN H. SUNSDAHL
Joan H. Sunsdahl, 73, of Soudan died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her children, Geraldine (Jerry) Isadore of Duluth, Donald Sunsdahl of Virginia, James (Lynn) Sunsdahl and Joyce (Dale) Swanson, both of Soudan, and Kristine (Rolf) Madole of Warner-Robbins, Ga.
Visitation: 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tower. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Tower. Arrangements by Landmark Funeral Home, Virginia.

MARGARET JANE SCHWARTAU
Margaret Jane Schwartau, 81, of Rochester, Minn., passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Season's Hospice, Rochester.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Bruce) Simonton, Dr. Bill (Pam) Schwartau and Julie (John) Broadbent; and three grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Dec. 7, 2001, in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Rochester. Inurnment in Oakwood cemetery, Red Wing, Minn. Arrangements by Ranfranz Funeral Home, Rochester.

MILTON J. THOMPSON
Milton J. Thompson, 59, of Phoenix ended his earthly journey Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Oberlin, Kan., following a short but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born July 10, 1942, near Bruno, Minn., to Floyd and Floretta Thompson. He served in the Air Force after graduating from Askov High School in 1960. For the past 35 years, Milton had worked for Allied Signal Aerospace/ Honeywell in Phoenix. Milton was a private person but a true lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking and camping in the wilderness, skiing and shooting pool.

Milton will be lovingly remembered and is survived by his four children; nine sisters; eight brothers; 17 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in the Church of Victory, Askov. Interment in Vilstad cemetery, Bruno. The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are by Hansen's North Pine Funeral Home, Sandstone, (320) 245-5323.

THOMAS STINE
Thomas Stine, formerly of Willow River, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
He was a member of St. Michael's Church in St. Cloud, Minn.

Thomas is survived by his wife; and children John and Pamela.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Service at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River.

WILLIAM A. SCHILTZ
William A. Schiltz, 85, of Ely died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home.
He was born June 18, 1916, in Ely to Josef and Rose (Matko) Schiltz. Bill was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School. He married Laura P. Bureau from Waterville, Maine, at Sacred Heart Church on Jan. 14, 1946. Bill was an employee of Lampert Lumber Co. for 34 years, where he became the manager of the Ely location in 1954 and remained in that capacity until his retirement in 1980. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, elected to the first parish council, and served as a rector for more than 25 years. He was a director of the Ely Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Ely Lions Club. He served in the Army for more than four years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 248, the VFW Post 2717, and a life member of the DAV.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Laura, who died Dec. 3; his parents; brothers Josef Jr. and John; sisters Mary and Albena; and children William Jr. and an infant daughter, Therese Rose.

Survivors include daughters Laura Summers of Minneapolis and Melanie R. (Ken) Hall of Richfield, Minn.; sons Josef (Debra) of Andover, Minn. and John (Carolyn) of Ely; grandchildren John W., Nicholas A. and Kayla S. Schiltz, Christopher D. and Jonathon P. Schiltz and Anna Laura Hall; a sister, Pauline Parker of Silver Springs, Md.; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the noon Mass of Christian burial Friday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ely, the Rev. James Scheuer as celebrant. Spring burial in Ely cemetery.

Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely. Memorials preferred to Parents Project for Muscular Dystrophy Research.

LAURA P. SCHILTZ
Laura P. Schiltz, 84, of Ely died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Waterville, Maine, to Adelard and Eva Rose (Poulin) Bureau, the fifth of 10 children. She was a 1936 graduate of Waterville High School. Laura was employed at Sisters Hospital in Waterville as a medical stenographer for four years and spent four years working with a private physician as a stenographer before joining the Women's Army Corps (WACs). She earned the rank of staff sergeant at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, where she met William A. Schiltz. On Jan. 14, 1946, Bill and Laura were married after their discharge from the Army.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Harvey, Normand, Arthur, Romeo and Antonid Bureau; sisters Juliette Weymouth, Ethel DeRaps, Cecile Cyr and Yvonne Pellerin; her children, William A. Schiltz Jr. and infant daughter, Therese Rose. Laura's husband died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001.

Survivors include daughters Laura P. Summers of Minneapolis and Melanie R. (Ken) Hall of Richfield, Minn.; sons Josef P. (Debra) of Andover, Minn., John A. (Carolyn) of Ely; beloved grandchildren John W., Nicholas A. and Kayla S. Schiltz, Christopher D. and Jonathon P. Schiltz and Anna Laura Hall; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the noon Mass of Christian burial Friday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ely, the Rev. James Scheuer as celebrant. Spring burial in Ely cemetery. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely. Memorials are preferred to be sent by the family to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Minneapolis.

FRANCIS W. "MICK" GOESSLING
Francis W. "Mick" Goessling, 83, formerly of Evanston, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton.
Mr. Goessling and his wife, Jeanne, retired to Evanston from New Jersey in 1983 and moved to Esko two years ago to live with their son Stephen and his family.

Mick was born in Chicago and was a graduate of Loyola Academy and Loyola University Chicago. He served in the Army 33rd Division Artillery from 1940 to 1944 in the Pacific. He had a long career in advertising and art direction in Chicago at Marshall Field and Co., Abbott Laboratories and US Gypsum, and for many years was advertising director for Silver Burdett, textbook publishers in New Jersey.

In 1950, Mr. Goessling married Jeanne Cleary, and the Goesslings lived in Wilmette, Highland Park and Winnetka, and moved to Morristown, N.J., in 1963, when he joined Silver Burdett Co. In 1983, the Goesslings moved to an active retirement in Evanston. Mr. Goessling worked for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and later for Winnetka Printing. He also was a volunteer visitor at nursing homes. Always active in his parish, wherever he was, he sang in the choir at Sacred Heart Church, Winnetka, was a lector and president of the Parish Council at St. Joseph's in Mendham, N.J., and was a lector and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Anthanasius in Evanston. He was also a member of the Caxton Club in Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Cleary Goessling; seven sons and two daughters, and their spouses and 10 grandchildren. They are Daniel and Deborah Goessling, and Sam, Joe and Tim of Wayland, Mass.; David and Amy Biggers Goessling of High Bridge, N.J.; Dennis and Kate Goessling Madson of Port Ludlow, Wash.; Mary Faith Goessling of Esko; Paul and Sybil Hatch Goessling, and Andy and Evelyn of Berkeley, Calif.; Robert and Elisabeth Perry Goessling, and Caleb and Emily of Cooksville, Wis.; Andrew and Alison Boardman Goessling of Long Valley, N.J.; Stephen and Maura Collins Goessling, and Raleigh and Parker of Esko; and Ted and Jacquelynn Cowdery Goessling and their son, Louis of Minneapolis. Also surviving is his sister, Emilee Goessling Szumski of Black River Falls, Wis.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Early in January, there will be a memorial service in St. Athanasius Church, Evanston. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to Alzheimer's Disease Research will be appreciated by the family. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

RUTH JULIA BEEMAN
Ruth Julia Beeman, 91, of Aurora died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 3, 1910, in White Pine, Minn., the daughter of Iver and Jennie (Talberg) Israelson. Ruth lived in Kansas City and Minneapolis before moving to Aurora. She was a garment buyer for Pred's Department Store in Kansas City and later worked for Daytons and Young-Quinlan, both in Minneapolis.

Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Albert and Clement.

Ruth is survived by a son, Virgil (Barb) Israelson of Bloomindale, Ill.; sisters Lena Kachmarzinski of Babbitt and Cora Rajkowski of Minneapolis; brothers Lester (Bernice) Israelson of Cambridge and Wesley (Del) Israelson of Keewatin; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday in Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia, Pastor Ruth Gangloff officiating. Inurnment in Hillman cemetery, Hillman, Minn. Family services provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia.

JOHN W. "JACK" TALMADGE
John W. "Jack" Talmadge, 76, of Hibbing died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, in Golden Crest Health Care Center, Hibbing.
He was born April 30, 1925, in Hibbing, the son of Allier and Bettie Talmadge.

All of his family members have preceded him in death.
SERVICE: 6 p.m. Thursday in Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel, Hibbing. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Hibbing.

EARL RICHARD CARMAN
Earl Richard Carman, 79, of Silver Bay died in his sleep Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born July 8, 1922, in Binghamton, N.Y., and graduated from Whitney Point High School, N.Y., in 1941. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Jan. 2, 1943, and served with the 6th Marine Division in the Pacific and China during World War II. After he was discharged from the Marine Corps as a warrant officer in 1946, he moved to Cloquet with his wife and attended Duluth State Teachers College (UMD). He moved to Silver Bay in 1952 and worked for Reserve Mining Co. in the accounting department until his retirement in 1983.

Earl married Nellie Marion Mattson of Cloquet on Jan. 30, 1943, in Washington, D.C.

He served for many years as the treasurer of the Silver Bay City Council and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Earl enjoyed his retirement years with his family and grandchildren, and enjoyed many active friendships with fishing and hunting buddies. Earl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Finland, Minn.

Earl is survived by his wife, Nellie; his daughter, Rita Ann (Hill) of Stafford, Va.; his sons, Michael (Betsy) of Sammamish, Wash., and Thomas (Danette) of Apple Valley, Minn.; his brother, William (Ruth) Carman of Chenango Forks, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Raymond, Buddy and Jennifer Brandt of Stafford, Jeffrey and Steven Carman of Sammamish, and Michael and Jonathan Carman of Apple Valley; and great-grandchildren Brittany and Alexis Brandt of Virginia.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church, Finland. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.
