ROBERT LOUIS COUTURE
Robert Louis Couture, 29, of Reno, Nev., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in his home in Reno.
Survivors include his parents, Raymond and Marsha Couture; his grandmother, Margaret Wietecha; and brothers Scott (Chris), Tim and Tony (Kelly) Couture.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Green-Larsen Mortuary, International Falls. Service at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Thomas Catholic Church. Burial in St. Thomas Catholic cemetery.

CHARLETT ANN STORY
Charlett Ann Story, infant daughter of Chad and Alita Story of International Falls, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her brothers, Calvin, Cole and Cooper Story.
Service:6 p.m. Thursday in Christian Life Chapel. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.

JOSEPHINE R. "JOSIE" LARSON
Josephine R. "Josie" Larson, a lifelong resident of Ely, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Ely-Bloomenson Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Ely on Nov. 15, 1907, the daughter of Pauline and Joseph Kastelac. Josie was married to Arvid Larson, the "love of her life" for 40 years, who preceded her in death.

Josie was a high energy, colorful person who loved her church, family, and entertaining her friends and relatives. She was proud of her home and garden and the city of Ely. She had various jobs in Ely, such as manager of the local Wards catalog store, and receptionist at the Forest Hotel and for Dr. Minteer.

She was active in the Ely Women's Business Club, Catholic Council and a frequent volunteer at the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home. She also had belonged to several bridge groups.

Josie was preceded in death by her dear son, Thad; her parents; brothers Joseph, Louis and Albert; and sisters Christine Juneau, Ann Reinhold and Rose Pennala.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Nyman and son-in-law Arthur; granddaughters Cynthia Nyman Coon and Marsha Nyman Larson; daughter-in-law Eileen Larson; grandsons Gregory, Joel and Tim Larson; along with 11 great-grandchildren who will miss their "Grandma Josie"; and sisters Molly Banovetz, Pauline Modini and Emily Kroll.

Special thanks to her devoted and caring neighbors, Helen and George Huovinen, who became her extended family.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial Mass Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Memorials preferred to St. Anthony's Church altar plants or the Ely Senior Citizens. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.

LEONE FLORENCE (MARKOVICH) SMITH
Leone Florence (Markovich) Smith of Chicago, formerly of Ely, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at home in Chicago.
She was born Sept. 20, 1927, to Joseph and Katherine Markovich. She was a member of the Ely High School graduating class of 1945. On May 9, 1953, she married Roy Smith.

Leone was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Carol; and sisters Ruth Wells and Lois Markas.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; a son, David (Janet); a grandson, Zachary and granddaughter, Samantha, both of Streamwood, Ill.; a brother, Tom (Beverly) of Liberty Lake, Wash.; sisters Dorothy (Gerard) Meloche of Detroit, and Betty (Stan) Kunstel and Nancy (Bernard) Portinen, both of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed by her family.
Funeral serviceswere held Sept. 14 in Chicago.

RAYMOND A. NELSON
Raymond A. Nelson, 90, of International Falls died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001.
Survivors include his sons, Mark Nelson and Washburn Nelson; and a sister, Genevieve Richards.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Service at 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith United Church of Christ, International Falls. Burial is Friday in Woodbine cemetery, Valley City, N.D. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, International Falls.

NYRENE L. LIBBY
Nyrene L. Libby, 83, of Grand Rapids died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in the Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
Survivors include daughters Joyce Johnson and the Rev. Carla Gentry; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial service:1 p.m. Thursday in Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

GRACE A. BOLTMAN
Grace A. Boltman, 89, of Moose Lake died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
Memorial service:1:30 p.m. Monday in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Burial in Riverside cemetery, Moose Lake. Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home of Sandstone.

ERNESTINE T. HILL
Ernestine T. Hill, 85, of Winton died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 17, 1916, on an island on Basswood Lake near Ely to Leo and Annie (DuFauld) Chosa. She was a Navy veteran of the WAVES and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and American Legion, both in Ely, and a member of the Winton Community Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nelo, on Dec. 4, 1998; sisters Alma Tilden, Leonore Driscoll and Dorothy McLaughlin; and brothers Vincent, Joseph and Donald Chosa.

Survivors include a sister, Bernice Arbuckle of Minneapolis; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Father James Scheuer as celebrant. Interment in Ely cemetery. Military rites accorded by the Bois Forte Honor Guard. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.

LORAINE F. THORDSON
Loraine F. Thordson, 78, of Hoyt Lakes died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Joyce); daughters Kathleen (Bruce) Johnson and Karen (Wesley) Pylka; a sister, Joan Mosenden; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Faith Lutheran Church, Hoyt Lakes. Burial in Hoyt Lakes Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Aurora.

MIKE SIMETKOSKY
Mike Simetkosky, 86, of Chisholm died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, in University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing.
Survivors include his sisters, Helen Ciatti, Eva Kosiak and Catherine Sannes; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Interment in Chisholm cemetery.

JULIET HANSON MAHER
Juliet Hanson Maher, 97, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001.

She was born May 5, 1904, in Black River Falls, Wis. She was a homemaker most of her life. In later years, she worked as a clerk in Duluth for the DuPont Co., the Damiano Center and as a hospitality host. Juliet loved gardening, crossword puzzles and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester J. Maher; her daughter, Patricia Lee Samborski; brothers Axel and Julius; and a sister, Helga.

Juliet is survived by her sister, Berdelle Gelineau of Carlton; grandchildren Scott (Judy) Samborski of Aspen, Colo., Denise Samborksi of Minnetonka, Minn., Julie (John) Little of Champaign-Urbana, Ill., Steve Samborski of Minneapolis and Craig Samborski of Duluth; a nephew, Thomas (Virginia) Gelineau of Cloquet; a niece, Alberta Pedersen of Farmington, Minn.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Johnson Mortuary and from 9 until the 10 a.m. service Saturday in the Chapel of the Waters of Park Point. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

LAVAWN H. (PEARSON) HALL
LaVawn H. (Pearson) Hall, 91, of Warba died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in the Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
She was born Nov. 10, 1909, to Charles and Ida Mae (Cooley) Alexander in Troy, S.D. She lived in Troy from 1909 to 1927. In 1926, LaVawn was married to Peter Pearson and he died in 1945. She lived in St. Louis Park, Minn., from 1927 to 1967, and in Vergas, Minn., from 1968 to 1995. In 1969, she was married to Charles Hall and he preceded her in death in 1990. In 1995, she moved to Warba.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by a son, Arnold; a brother, Lyle; and sisters Madge, Fern, Lois and Eva.

LaVawn is survived by sons Roland (Joyce) Pearson of Cohasset and Bruce (Peg) Pearson of Bovey; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, the Rev. William Damberg officiating. Burial in Warba-Feeley cemetery, Warba.

ANNA E. WILMUNEN
Anna E. Wilmunen, 90, of Ely died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 12, 1910, to Hjalmeri and Johanna (Nikkarikoski) Partti in Stockett, Mont., and graduated from Ely Memorial High School. Annie worked at Joe's IGA in Ely for several years and was a volunteer at the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home and was named Volunteer of the Year. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and Grace Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugo, in 1991; and a brother, Reino Partti.

Annie is survived by a daughter, Joann (Richard) Grahek of Coon Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren Jim and Tom Grahek, and Laura Dunaway; great-grandchildren Shelby, Austin, Mackenzie, Paige, Sarah and Nathan; a sister, Esther Espland of Ely; a sister-in-law, Pat Partti; and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICE:11 a.m. Saturday in Grace Lutheran Church, Ely, the Rev. William Fossum officiating. Burial in Ely cemetery. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.
