ELSIE M. VALIN
Elsie M. Valin, 82, of Grand Rapids died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
Born on Feb. 3, 1919, in the Trout Lake area, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Autio) Valine. She lived in the Grand Rapids area for most of her life and attended the Itasca Developmental Achievement Center for several years, before her retirement in 1981.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Sam Valine; and brothers Arthur and John.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
SERVICE: 10 a.m. Monday in Itasca Nursing Home Chapel, the Rev. Judy Anderson-Bauer officiating. Interment in Trout Lake cemetery. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.
CYNTHIA (WAHL) ANDERSON
Cynthia (Wahl) Anderson, 76, of Grand Rapids passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Minneapolis, and grew up and attended school in Duluth. She graduated from Central High School in 1943. She received her degree in public health nursing from the University of Minnesota. In 1950, Cynthia Wahl was united in marriage to Lawrence M. Anderson and, in 1988, the couple moved to Grand Rapids. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and was a volunteer with St. Luke's Home Care.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Edward F. and Olive (Swanson) Wahl.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughters Sherry Anderson of Minneapolis, and Holly Bergen, Lynn (Don) Jones and Wendy Anderson, all of Duluth; sons Steven (Sharon) Anderson of Chandler, Ariz., Scott (Patty) Anderson of Grand Rapids and Mark (Erica) Anderson of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister, Joan (Robert) Swanson of Duluth; and 10 grandchildren.

Sheila May McCuskey, 66, of Holyoke passed away unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 14, 2001.

CHARLES R. ROBINSON
Charles R. Robinson, 63, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Annamarie; daughters Tammy (Richard) Hutton, Violet, Deanna, Ethel and Rebecca Robinson; his mother, Violet Ann Robinson; three brothers; three sisters; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in the First Assembly of God Church in Hibbing. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements by Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Hibbing.
PERRY MARTIN LANDGREN
Perry Martin Landgren, 91, died at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tenn., on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
He was born in Meadowlands on March 31, 1910, to Swedish immigrants Peter and Anna Landgren, the last of four boys and five girls. He was one of three students to graduate from the first class at Meadowlands High School in 1926. After working at odd jobs in Minnesota, he enrolled at Duluth State Teachers College and received a bachelor's degree in education and taught in rural Minnesota for five years, where he met his wife, another teacher, Donna Newman, in Verdi, Minn.
Perry served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a meteorologist in Kodiak, Alaska, and Columbus, Ohio. As a civilian, he worked in the weather bureaus in Duluth; Juneau, Alaska; Albuquerque, N.M.; El Paso, Texas; Miami; Everett, Wash.; and finally at Maryville, where he retired.
He was a member of the Maryville Kiwanis Club and of the University of Tennessee Science Club. He played tennis, fished, gardened, delivered Meals on Wheels and was active in his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Cheryl Landgren of Minneapolis; a son, Kenneth Landgren of Houston; a brother-in-law; and scores of nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICES were held for Perry on Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Maryville First United Methodist Church.
HELEN E. CARLSON
Helen E. Carlson, 62, of Britt died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in Golden Crest Healthcare Center, Hibbing.
Survivors include her husband, Walter W.; children Cindy, Lee, Laura and Linda; grandchildren Gregory, John, Brent, Jesse, Andrew and Heather; sisters Esther, Eleanor and Ann; a brother, Martin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
No services will be held at Helen's request.
MARIE T. DWYER
Centenarian
Marie T. Dwyer, 100, of Marble died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in her home.
She was born July 14, 1901, in Melrose, Minn., to Frank and Cora (Latterel) Kampa. Marie had lived in Foley, Minn., Floodwood and, most of her life, in Marble. She attended Marble schools, was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marble and its Council of Catholic Women. She served as Greenway Township treasurer for more than 25 years and was a charter member of the Greenway Senior Citizens. Marie and Richard "Bud" Dwyer were married
in Marble in 1921.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora Kampa; her husband, Richard "Bud" Dwyer; sons Dick, Pat, Tom, Billy, Raymond and Joseph; daughters Mary Kelly and Joanne Jeffery; sisters Lillian Fuhrman, Alice Johnson, Ione Stickney and Emma Wilkleblack; and brothers Robert, Eddie and Otto Kampa.
Survivors include her children, Robert "Mike" (Sandy) Dwyer and Corrine Plaisted, both of Marble, and Nancy Roonzani of Hibbing; 25 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marble. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.
NICK PALKOVICH
Nick Palkovich, 93, of Eveleth died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001.
Survivors include daughters Shirley (Jim) Koski and Jeanette (Archie) Wihanto; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; a special niece, Suzie; many nieces and nephews.

LYDIA VIENO OLESIAK
Lydia Vieno Olesiak, 84, of Sawyer died and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Sawyer to Nels and Mary (Kotiranta) Kamunen. She graduated as class valedictorian from Cromwell High School in 1935. On Nov. 23, 1938, Lydia married
Raymond Olesiak. She farmed with her husband and was a licensed boarding home operator and caregiver to many. The Olesiaks were the Carlton County Farm Family of the Year in 1986. Lydia was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Carlton County. She organized the Sawyer Sunshine 4-H Club and was a 4-H leader for 30 years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Sawyer cemetery Board, Farmers Union, American Dairy Association, the Hjalmar-Alto American Legion Post 429 Auxiliary, Cloquet & Cromwell Coop Board and was a delegate of Associated Milk Producers Inc. Lydia also wrote the Sawyer news in the local papers for 30 years.
She loved to cook, bake, sew and garden and won many ribbons with her exhibits at the county fair. She also chaperoned many 4-H State Fair trips. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports and was a dedicated Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Raymond, on Nov. 14, 2001; an infant daughter, Kathleen; brothers, Eino and Ray Kamunen.
She is survived by daughters Virginia (Darrel) Wickstrom of Barnum, Marilyn Kiehl and Sally Kelley, both of Cloquet, Barbara (Tim) Dahl of Wright, Gloria Olesiak of Mahtowa and Caroline (Dan) Switzer of Outing; sons Tim (Lorie) of Cloquet, Rick (Sue) of Cromwell and Fred of Sawyer; a sister, Ida Rose (Donald) Sunnarborg of Laurel, Mont.; a brother, Dan (Sonja) Kamunen of Littleton, Colo.; 30 grandchildren; and 21 great- grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet, and continuing from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell. Burial 2 p.m. in Sawyer cemetery. Memorial contributions preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell.

Dora Koepke
Dora Koepke, 87, Henning, died Thursday morning, Dec. 15, 2004, at TriCounty Hospital of Wadena.
Dora Katherine Anna Stueve was born in Henning May 8, 1917, to Dick and Marie (Eckhoff) Stueve. She grew up in the Henning area and was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Henning. She married
Alvin Koepke Oct. 27, 1917, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Henning area until Alvin's death in 1976. Dora stayed on the farm until 1983, when she moved into Henning and purchased a home there. She worked as a cook and waitress at the Henning Bakery, bowling alley, Lucy's Caf/, and the Henning Senior Citizens Center. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Church and St. Paul's Women's Fellowship. She also taught Sunday school there. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and visiting.
She is survived by her sisters: Amanda Ehlert, Battle Lake, and Esther (Leonard) Dreyer, Henning; a brother: Eldon (Marlene) Stueve, Henning; sister-in-law: Alma Stueve, Henning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Darrell; and an infant daughter: parents; and brothers: Henry, Edwin, and Emil.
