Frazee native Chester H. “Chet” Conway, 84, of Troy, N.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at his home, enveloped in the love of family and friends by his bedside. Memorials may be sent to FirstHealth Hospice, 5 Aviemore Drive, P.O. Box 1956, Pinehurst, NC 28374. At Chester’s request, there will be no memorial service or funeral. A private ceremony will be held at a later date to be determined by family at Arlington National cemetery, where Chester will be united with his beloved wife, Carol Marie Singer Conway, in the cemetery's columbarium. Arrangements are being provided by Phillips Funeral Home of Star, N.C.

Jerome “Jerry” Herman, 71, of Dent, Minn., died Friday, April 11, 2008 at his home on Star Lake. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes. Interment will be held at Oak Grove cemetery in Detroit Lakes. The David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Grant Bateman, 84. of Osage, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2007 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in North Palm Beach, Fla. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids, with inurnment following the celebration. Memorials will be directed to the Grant Bateman Endowment Fund for student scholarships at Bemidji State University. Funeral arrangements are being provided by Jones-Pearson Funeral Home of Park Rapids.

Ruby Steeke, 79, of Frazee, died on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Tamarac Place Assisted Living, Pelican Rapids under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, continuing for one hour prior to Thursday’s service in the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Furey Funeral Home, Frazee with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Frazee. Arrangements are being provided by the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee.

Edward Kent, Sr., 60, of Waubun, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, after a courageous battle with cancer. A mass of Christian burial took place on Saturday, April 12, at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, with the Rev. Mitch Byeck officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen and Winger, Minn.

Lester Ponto, 89, of Frazee, died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Frazee Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran cemetery, Frazee. Arrangements were entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.

Leon H. Sell, 71, of Moorhead, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, Fargo. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo. Wright Funeral Home of Moorhead was entrusted with arrangements.

Helen M. Hanson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services were held Friday, April 11 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment was at the Seventh Day Adventist cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements.

David Evenson

Former Detroit Lakes resident David D. Evenson, 74, of Cambridge, Minn., passed away peacefully in the arms of his family on Monday, April 7, 2008. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge; continuing for one hour prior to the start of Friday's services at the church. A celebration of David’s is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at the Joy Lutheran Church in Cambridge, with Rev. Steve Ferber officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery in Mora, Minn., with military honors provided by the Mora American Legion. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Cambridge.

Timothy Krause
Timothy Paul Krause, age 65, of Isanti, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in St. Cloud. He is survived by his children and other relatives and friends.

Marvin Paulson
Marvin Thomas Paulson, 100, of Cambridge formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at The Commons at GracePointe Crossing.

He was born on January 8, 1915 in Hatton, ND to Nels and Helga (Bakken) Paulson. He would go on to earn a Bachelors’ Degree and later was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey serving from 1937 - 1969, retiring as captain.

Marvin was united in marriage to Muriel Hermine and because of his service they lived at 41 different places over the years. Marvin was in charge of the Weather Bureau in the Western U.S and was also on the last survey crew that surveyed the last part of Alaska. In 1963 he was involved with laying the hot line between Russia and the U.S.

In their retirement Marvin and Muriel moved to Las Vegas and were very active with St. Jude’s Ranch for Children in Boulder City for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Muriel, brothers Peter, Elliott and Bruce, and sister Olive Taylor. Marvin is survived by nieces and nephews, Craig and Patti Paulson, Barb and Keith Hoffman, Brenda and Sam Brubaker, Debbie and Ron Bury, Jack and Marge Taylor, Jill and Chuck, Warner, Judy and Chuck Dunsire, Keith and Jennifer Paulson, Kent and Wendy Paulson, Peter and Pati Paulson, Mark and Carey Taylor, Marcia Urbani, Steve and Sally Paulson, Carmen and Mike Klomp, as well as several other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

Avery Stager
Avery Louis Stager, 93, of Cambridge formerly of Grasston passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.

He was born on October 2, 1921 in Rockton, IL to Frank and Leona Stack.

Avery is survived by family and friends.

Alice Langer
Alice Ann Langer, 82, of White Bear Lake passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at her home surrounded by loving family.

She was born March 8, 1933 at home on McKinley St. in SE Minneapolis to Walter and Frances (Fremouw) Maas. She attended St. Charles Borromeo School and graduated from St. Margaret’s Academy in 1951. As a teenager Alice worked at her father’s grocery store at 2540 Central Ave. NE, Minneapolis where she learned to always balance her cash drawer! After graduation from high school she worked as a cashier at Powers Department Store, moved to Denver, CO and worked as a cashier and office clerk. Returning to Minnesota she worked as a cashier at Perines bookstore at the U of M campus, as a bookkeeper at Golden Age Nursing Home and in 1973 with Jerry Beach opened Forestland Nurseries in Forest Lake. In 1983 she followed her other passion and received her diploma from travel school and worked at Complete Travel. She loved to travel and has been to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

Retiring in 1989 Alice and George lived on Pokegama Lake in Pine City where she was very involved with the lake association, enjoyed fishing on their pontoon, swimming, having the family up and enjoyed many friends there. In 2005 Alice and George moved to Cambridge, then with the diagnosis of cancer moved to The Lodge in White Bear Lake.

Alice always loved her family, she was the peacemaker and was gracious to the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rosemary, Mary Emily and Irene, brother George and son Charles Beach. Alice is survived by husband George Langer, daughter Carol (Dave) Urban, daughter-in-law Terry Beach, step children Julie (Scott) Campbell, Debbie (Paul) Swanson, Gordon (Vicki) Langer, Mary (Bruce) Lemay, and Joe Langer, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Jean Ward, Maria O’Dell and Gloria Maas, brothers Frank & Walter Maas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sharon Collison
Sharon Elaine (Farr) Collison, 71, of Andover passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

She was born on March 24, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN to Leonard and Arlene (Gustafson) Farr. Sharon was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls. All of her growing up years she was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church; sharing her gift of music, both vocally and as a wonderful pianist at church as well as on Gospel Teams. She attended Minnehaha Grade School, Nokomis Jr. High and graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1962. After high school she spent 2 years and graduated from California Lutheran Bible School. Sharon would return to Minnesota and begin work at the University of Minnesota.

On July 21, 1973 she was united in marriage to David Collison at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood and they celebrated their reception at her parent’s cabin on Farm Island Lake. The couple would later make their home in the house that David’s father built in Andover. After a spending two years in New Jersey, they returned to Andover and would make it their main residence while both of them worked. Once they retired, Sharon and David spent winters in Harlingen, TX, and spent much of their Summer weekends at their cabin on Prairie Lake and also at her family cabin on Farm Island Lake.

Sharon enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafting, she organized the crafting group at their park in Texas. She loved music and played organ, piano, and guitar. She and David loved spending time with the family at the cabin, going on pontoon rides, fireworks on the 4th of July, and especially sitting around the campfire. They were always the last two to leave the campfire, talking and watching the stars.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law Linda Collison. Sharon is survived by her husband David, sister Patty and husband Jerry Anderson of Cambridge, mother-in-law Rhoda Collison of Payson, AZ, brothers-in-law Jerry Collison of Payson, AZ, Dale Collison of Wright, MN, eight nieces and nephews Mark Anderson, Deborah Fredrickson, Carrie Knutson, Matt Anderson, Amy Maxfield, Mary Schoeneck, Mark Collison, and Dan Collison, 31 great nieces and nephews and six great great nephews.
