Irving Carlson
Irving Leonard Carlson died at GracePointe Crossing West in Cambridge, Minnesota on Monday, August 13, 2012 after a long life of 92 years.

A lifetime resident of Maple Ridge Township, Irving was born to Oscar and Mary (Landin) Carlson on May 23, 1920. Irving attended school at District #44 which was a one mile, across the woods trek from his home.

Irving married Eileen Yvonne Westberg on October 16, 1943 and they made their home in rural Springvale Township before moving to Irving’s home place in 1966. They raised two children, Rebecca and Luther. Irving farmed throughout his entire life. After working part-time as a carpet layer, Irving and his brother-in-law Victor Westberg joined forces and started one of the largest dairy herds in Isanti County for that time.

Irving served on the Maple Ridge Township Board for more than twenty years. After his retirement, Irving remained active becoming the farm’s parts runner. At this time, he developed his previously untapped talent for wood carving. Horses were his specialty. Irving always wanted a team of his own but his poor legs prevented this so he carved horses instead. Irving was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church of Dalbo where he served in many capacities.

Irving was a widower for 31 years following Eileen’s death in 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary. Irving is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Wayne) Olson of Cambridge and his son Luther (Roxanne) Carlson of Stanchfield; five grandchildren Kelly (Wade) Mikkelson of Montana, Laura (Phil) Hennemann of WI, Angie Olson of St. Paul, Nick (Jessie) Carlson of Stanchfield, and Zachary Carlson of Fargo, ND; and eight great grandchildren McKayla, Mable, Katelyn, Ava, Ruth, Riston, Isabella, and Grace. Also surviving are his three sisters Myrtle Dahlin, Loretta Kilpatrick, and Marian Miller all of Minneapolis.

Gloria Anderson
Gloria Lovine Anderson, 91, of Cambridge, formerly of Walbo passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.

She was born on March 29, 1922 in Wyanett Township, Minnesota to William John and Emma (Erickson) Anderson. Gloria grew up in the Pine Brook area and attended the Pine Brook Country School. As a child she attended Cambridge Lutheran Church and was confirmed from there.

On June 20, 1940 she was united in marriage to Delorne Anderson at Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo. The couple made their home in the Walbo area and raised their nine children. Gloria stayed at home to raise the children while Delorne owned and operated the Anderson and Bjorklund Lime Hauling business.

Gloria enjoyed listening to accordion music, polka, Old Time Dancing and waltzes. After retiring, Gloria and Delorne spent much time camping in their fifth wheel trailer and going to many Senior Dances.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years Delorne, daughter Sharon Stimmler, sisters Violet Erickson and Ruth Sandstrom, brothers Donald, Delorne and Wilfred Anderson. Gloria is survived by her children Barbara Anderson of Foley, Ronald and wife Donna Anderson of Cambridge, David and wife Debra Anderson of Anoka, Lois Anderson of Duluth, Linda and husband Paul Seiferth of Lino Lakes, Jerry Anderson of Cambridge, Deb and husband Bill Lonnes of Cambridge, Kevin Anderson and special friend Jeanne DeGray of North Branch, son-in-law Leonard Stimmler of Cambridge, 10 grandchildren Travis Smith, Nick Sundeen, Brent Anderson, Jake Anderson, Jeff Arnold, Allyssa Anderson, Kristy Johnson, Rochelle Anderson, Carrie Seiferth and Shelly Lind, 13 great grandchildren Bailee, Brenna, Kori, Adam, Sada, Destinee, Sophia, Jackson, Logan, Annabelle. Luke, Chance and Taylor, brother Roy Anderson of Cambridge as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Nancy Slater
Nancy Mae (Chamberlin) Slater, 73, of Cambridge, MN, formerly of St. Paul died February 7, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.

Nancy was born on April 19, 1939 in St. Paul, MN to Arnold and Gertrude (Greenfield) Chamberlin. She grew up in St. Paul, graduating from Washington High School in 1957, and then Hamline University in 1961. In 1962 she moved to Paul’s Lake in Cambridge. There she worked at The Imperial, Schmidt Music, and Fleetway while raising a family and then operating a bookkeeping service for several small companies.

She was on the board of the Isanti County Historical Society, the board of Washington High School’s 50+ Reunion Club, and loved volunteering at the Shalom Shop and many other local activities.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father Arnold Chamberlin; brothers-in-law Charles Slater, Duane Slater, and Tommy Slater.

She is survived by her husband John Slater; mother G. Mae Chamberlin of Cambridge; sons Eric (Tracey) Skalbeck of Eveleth, Mark (Laura) Skalbeck of Anoka, Dean (Kathy) Skalbeck of Peralta, NM, David (Jill) Slater of Cambridge; brother Tom (Janice) Chamberlin of Midland, MI; grandchildren Justin, Jake, JoHannah, Ty and Josh Skalbeck, Kelsey and Kayla Ostrom; great grandchild FaeLynn Skalbeck; sisters-in-law Marie Slater, Maralyn Slater, Karen Slater, Judy Ziebarth, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nancy's family would like to thank Barb, Denise and Sandy of GracePointe Crossing nursing staff and to Sandra Clasen, RN and Thomas Johnson, Chaplain of Allina Hospice.

Mark Sundell
Mark Ralph Sundell of Harris died on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at University of Minnesota Medical Center Fairview in Minneapolis at the age of 59.

Mark was born on December 12, 1952 in Minneapolis to Ralph and Nora Sundell. After attending high school, Mark graduated from auto body and mechanic school where he found and developed his lifelong passion for restoring and fixing cars.

Mark had five children and six grandchildren. He was happiest when he was at his cabin in Aitkin, MN. Mark also had a passion for antiques and collectables and could never pass up a garage sale.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Nora, his brother Teddy Sundell, and sister Darla Synnes.

He is survived by his wife Nina, children Briena (Jesus) Sanchez of Arizona, Jeremy (Jenni) Shepard of St. Michael, Kelly Sundell of Arizona, Marisa Sundell of Cambridge, Brandon Sundell of Harris, six grandchildren, brother Tim Sundell of Minneapolis, sister Linda Mitchell of Minneapolis.

Kenneth Wilfred Lindenfelser
Kenneth W. Lindenfelser, age 84, of Elk River, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016.

Kenny farmed with his parents and brother Harold in Otsego, MN. He enjoyed an ice cold beer after a hard days’ work on the farm. Kenny loved to drive his International Tractor to all of his neighbor’s farms. He also loved going to the Princeton Sales Barn.

He is preceded in death by his parents Matt & Anna Lindenfelser; brothers Harold, twins: Everett and Francis; sisters Marion Johnson and Armella Heinz.

Kenny is survived by his loving sisters Evelyn Koenig and Louella Ford and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dean Nelson
Dean A. Nelson, 77, of Princeton passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Elim Home in Princeton.

Services are currently pending.

Sandra Russo
Sandra Lee Russo, 52, of Isanti, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at her home.

Vernon Christensen
Vernon Amel Rod Christensen, age 95, of Stanchfield, MN, went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2016. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.

He was born on June 25, 1920 in Spencer Brook Township, MN to Waldemar and Anna (Rod) Christensen. He grew up in the Wyanett, MN area.

On November 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Olson of Maple Ridge. They built a house in Maple Ridge where they raised four children—Paul, Joy, Joyce “Christie, ” Elaine, and several foster children. Vernon was very entrepreneurial and had many businesses over his lifetime. He started as a farmer; then owner of Bethany Nursing Home in Braham; owner of the Arlington Hotel & Restaurant in Cambridge; and building contractor of homes, businesses, and numerous churches across the state. He built and sold cabins and lake lots on Knife Lake near Mora. He was known for being a builder of quality construction and for being a man of his word.

Vernon was a leader in the community and in his church at Stanchfield Baptist Church. He was chosen as Isanti County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year in 1999. An article in the Cambridge Star described Vernon as “Synonymous with honesty, generosity, and friendliness. A pillar of solid Christian ethics and understanding. Commanded respect and admiration. Above all, a very humble man.”

He was known by all for his gift of humor and storytelling. He had a joke to fit into any conversation - with family, friends or strangers.

After retirement, he and Virginia enjoyed traveling to many countries, entertaining friends and family in their home, and developed strong friendships through Christian Campers of MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, LeRoy and Reuben, sister Margaret Forslin, daughter Elaine Johnson, and foster son Al Newland.

Vernon is survived by Virginia, his wife of 69 years, son Paul (Therese) Christensen, daughters Joy (Keith) Kuby, Joyce “Christie” (Bill) Kowalski, foster daughter Theresa (Jerry) Anderson, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother George (Juanita) Christensen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Gwendolyn Nelson
Gwendolyn V. Nelson, age 93 years 10 months and 1 day, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2015 at the Ecumen Parmly Life Pointes of Chisago City.

Gwen was born on February 19, 1922 to parents Henry and Alma Thunstrom on the family farm by Weber, MN in Isanti, County.

Gwen married Howard J. Nelson on August 2, 1941. Together they farmed NW of Cambridge. They raised two sons. Loren Nelson and John (Sharon) Nelson.

Gwen was blessed with 4 Grandchildren; Kristi (Jeremy) Hass, Kati Nelson, Todd (D’Ette) Nelson and Brad Nelson, they blessed her with 6 Great-grandchildren; Sara Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson, Kyler Nelson, Emily Hass, Landon Hass and Kasha Becker. She is also survived by many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard and all of her sisters and brothers; Mildred, Dorothy, Florence, Mable, Francis, Geraldine, Myrle, Larry, Phil, Clifford, Wallace and two infant siblings.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Cambridge State Hospital for many years.

Nikki M. Pratt
Nikki M. Pratt of Ogilvie, MN, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2016, in Mora, MN. Nikki was just 37 years old.

Nikki was born on September 6, 1978, to Mike Schule and Vicky Kuhrke in North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. Nikki was a cook, bartender and waitress at various establishments, most recently at the Outback Bar & Grill in Stanchfield.

Nikki was married to Ian Pratt for 16 years. They had three beautiful children: Shane, Alora and Elijah. To Nikki, faith and family were very important. She was so very proud of her children and loved them very much. She also had a delicious sense of humor and could light up a room upon entering it. Nikki made any gathering lots of fun with her jokes and teasing. Her warmth was genuine and her hugs were loving.

Nikki is survived by her husband, Ian; children Shane, Alora and Elijah; parents Vicky Kuhrke and Mike Schule; sister Michelle Schule; grandma Mary Schule; and aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by special grandmother Sharon Lindgren.
