Arthur Orville Erickson, 91, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died on Friday, July 15, 2005, in the nursing home.

Arthur Orville Erickson was born on April 19, 1914, in Chicago, IL, to Erick and Helga (Thomas) Erickson. He attended Hanson Tractor School in Fargo, ND, and took a class in welding. He then went to work for Zenith Dredge Company in Duluth, MN, building Coast Guard Cutters. He worked there until being drafted in the Army. After his discharge from the Army he farmed in the Maddock, ND, area. He married Gladys Sund on October 8, 1939 in Sheyenne, ND. After retiring from farming, he and Gladys moved to New Rockford, ND. In 2000, Orville and Gladys sold their home in New Rockford and moved to Moorhead.

He is survived by three daughters, Glennys (Sigurd) Sivertson, Moorhead, MN, Kay (David) Nilson, Hazen, ND, and Nancy (John) Benson, Maddock, ND; one son, Dean (Sheila) Erickson, Maddock, ND; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Edna W. Torkelson, 86
Died: Monday, August 15, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Edna W. Torkelson, 86, of Fargo, died Monday, August 15, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Edna was born on September 24, 1918. Albert and Agnes (Richardson) Torkelson adopted her at the age of four in Vancouver, British Columbia. She grew up and attended school in Huron, SD. After graduating from Huron High School she attended Business School in Huron. Edna worked as a secretary with Standard Oil for 31 years until her retirement.

She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Whitelaw, Langley, British Columbia and Grace Ferraby, Vancouver, British Columbia.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Enefer and Ernest Enefer; and five sisters, Maude Dyk, Agnes Hollingshurst, Minnie Burditt, Celine Enefer and Mabel Barber.

Ralph A. Underlee, 69
Died: Sunday, April 30, 2006, in Richfield Health Care Center, Richfield, MN.
Ralph Alden Underlee was born on June 19, 1936, in Hendrum, Mn., to Lawrence and Ruth (Tarvestad) Underlee. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1954, he graduated from Hendrum High School, and in 1959, from Concordia College. After graduation, he worked at several jobs in the Fargo-Moorhead area and was a member of the Air National Guard. In 1969, Ralph began working for the United States Post Office in Minneapolis where he was employed until his recent illness. Ralph passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Richfield Healthcare Center at the age of 69, and was laid to rest at the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Hendrum. He was an accomplished pianist whose playing was enjoyed by many. He will always be remembered for his music and his kind and giving heart.
He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two brothers - Harold, Pasadena, Ca. and Everett, Bloomington, Mn., one sister, Linda (Ms. Harvey) Nerness, Windom, Mn., twelve nieces and nephews, and three great nieces and nephews.

Lyle E. Lorentz, 71
Died: Thursday, May 04, 2006, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Lyle E. Lorentz, 71, of Moorhead, died Thursday, May 04, 2006, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by his loving family.

Lyle was born on July 7, 1934 in Hawley, to John and Iola (Kelly) Lorentz. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead. On June 6, 1952 he married Eldora Hogenson in Moorhead, together they had five children. Lyle was the Street Department Supervisor for the City of Moorhead for 34 years until his retirement in 1991. Lyle loved to hunt, fish, play cards, and spend his summers at the lake. He was an avid Nascar fan for over 40 years. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eldora, Moorhead, MN; three sons, Lyle Jr. (Becky) Lorentz, Bend, OR, David (Susan) Lorentz, Bagley, MN, Mark (Lorrie) Lorentz, Moorhead, MN; two daughters, Vicki (Larry) Anderson, Moorhead, MN, Nancy (Tim) Dawson, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Ervin (Pearl) Lorentz, Abilene, TX; three sisters, Doris (Rick) Hamilton, Marysville, WA, Dee (Fred) Doeden, Dilworth, MN, Joanne Boit, Detroit Lakes, MN; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Donna Markey; and one grandson, Luke Lorentz.

Ada Fick, 90
Died: Sunday, February 12, 2006, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Ada Fick, 90, Moorhead, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, in Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Ada Irene Sylvia Nelson was born January 11, 1916, near Pelican Rapids, MN, to Carl John and Elvira Nelson. She attended schools in Maplewood Township and graduated from high school in Pelican Rapids in 1933. She obtained a teacher's certificate from Moorhead Teachers College in 1934, and taught in rural schools in the Pelican Rapids and Vergas, Minnesota area.

Ada married William Fick of Vergas on October 7, 1939. They farmed near Vergas until 1963 when Mr. Fick died in a farm accident. Following his death Ada taught at the Vergas School for two years before returning to college at Moorhead State University. She graduated in 1968, and taught in the Moorhead school system at Georgetown and Sharp Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1978. She continued for a number of years to teach adult-education classes in various arts, crafts and genealogy.

Ada loved teaching, but also Bible studies, sewing, quilting, gardening and traveling. Many in her family have fond memories of learning from her various quilting and home-making skills, the names of the flowers and trees on the farm, and for the younger generation, of listening to some great bedtime stories.

She is survived by a daughter, Carole (Howard) Schmidt, Moorhead; three sons, Gary (Jane), Breckenridge, MN, Don (Doni), Litchfield Park, AZ, and Doug, Eden Prairie, MN; a sister Doris Toftely of Pelican Rapids, MN; ten grandchildren, Rebecca (Peter Ryan) Schmidt, Brian (Theresa) Schousek, Greg (Rhonda) Schmidt, Michael (Patty Jaeger) Fick, Darren (Nikki) Fick, Damon (Andrea) Fick, Jim (Carrie) Fick, Alison Fick, John Fick, Andy Fick and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two brothers and three sisters, a daughter-in-law Jennifer (Doug) Fick and a great-grandson Zachary Schousek.

David W. Krenelka, 66
Died: Saturday, November 19, 2005
David Ward Krenelka, 66, of Blaine, Minnesota, peacefully passed away on November 19, 2005, in Unity Hospital, Fridley, Minnesota.

David was born April 17, 1939, in Hitterdal, Minnesota. He worked as a computer technician.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Nellie Krenelka.

David will be greatly missed by his wife, Carolyn Krenelka; two daughters, Judy and Karen (Don); two grandsons, Terrence and Alex; sister-in-law, Barbara (Tom) Tesar; niece, Susan (Doug) Griffith; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Unity Hospital ICU for their support and wonderful care.

Winifred M. Christoffers, 85

Winifred M. (Horan) Christoffers was born on December 4, 1920, the oldest of four children born to Michael and Winnie (Brendingen) Horan. She grew up on a farm south of Lake Park and attended rural school district #6 through the 8th grade and then transferred to Lake Park High School, graduating in 1938. She attended Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN.

Winifred married Vernon J. Christoffers on August 31, 1941 and they resided south of Lake Park on Stakke Lake until moving to the Christoffers homestead north of Lake Park in 1946. They were engaged in farming and, in the early 80's operated a certified seed business. He died in 1983. She modeled for the Fashion Gallery and Canary's. She loved to cook and bake and collect cookbooks. She enjoyed sewing and hardanger and was a perfectionist at it. She loved to dance and was a member of the Country Twirlers Square Dance Club. She was also a member of the Lake Park Garden Club and was an active member of Lake Park Lutheran Church, in circle and also having taught Sunday school.

On February 26, 1994, Winifred married Lud Radeck. They resided on the Christoffer's farmsite until she entered the nursing home in September of 2001. He died on March 26th 2005.

Winifred is survived by a daughter, (Janice) Jan (Andy) Fugle, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Elaine (Maury) Oseth, Vancouver, WA, and Beverly (John) Ojala, Vancouver, WA; one brother, Edwin (Margie) Horan, Chippewa Falls, WI; seven grandchildren, Mike Christoffers, Julie Tekuatz, Jeanine Maier, Denell Wolff, Renae Croy, John Fugle, and LuAnn Glowacz; twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Vernon Christoffers and Lud Radeck, a son Vernon M. Christoffers, and one great-grandchild Robert (Bobby) Christoffers.

Dr. Andreen S. "Andy" Midthune, 83
Died: September 11, 2005, in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Andy "Doc" Midthune, 83, of Lake Park, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 11th, 2005, at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Andreen Sylvain Midthune was born to Andrew and Clara Midthune on March 18th, 1922, in Borup, Minnesota. He attended grade school and high school in Borup, and started his undergraduate studies at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1946, did an internship in Salt Lakes City Utah, and then served two years in the Army Medical Corps.

Andy married Carol Houglum on December 26, 1944. After finishing his military assignment, he moved his family to Lake Park, Minnesota, where he provided medical care to the people of that community and the surrounding area from 1949 until 1987. He said, "I grew up in a small town, and my heart is in small towns." In 1968, he was honored by the community of Lake Park with a celebration lovingly called "Dr. Midthune Day". On this special day, over 300 of the several hundred babies he delivered marched in his parade. In 1981, the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians presented Andy with the first annual "Minnesota Family Physician of the Year" award in the twin cities.

He was a dedicated doctor, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved to spend time at his summer cottage, and also liked to hunt, fish, play golf, read and play cards. Andy's community activities included Lion's Club, American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. He was also very active as a member of the Lake Park Lutheran Church.

"Doc" will be missed by his loving wife Carol; children Paula (Don) Kranz, Steve (Gail) Midthune, John (Pam) Midthune, and Pam (Len) Spaeth; one sister, Alma Anderson, Appleton, MN; one brother, Neil (Shirley) Midthune, Cocoa Beach, FL; also saddened by his absence are his nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Greg E. Eckman, 52
Died: Tuesday, February 28, 2006, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Gregory E. Eckman, 52 of Moorhead, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Greg was born on June 18, 1953 to Leon and Verna Eckman in Moorhead, MN. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, MN, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1971. Shortly after graduation, Greg began working for American Crystal Sugar, he has worked there for the past 33 years. On August 9, 1975 he married Deedra Jacobs in Hawley, MN. Together they had two children. He loved to travel and enjoyed the time he spent each winter in Mexico. His recent passion was learning to fly. He was very close to obtaining his private pilots license. Greg will be remembered for his love of family, fun, outstanding work ethic and his ability to find humor in almost every situation.

He is survived by his wife, Deedra; two sons, Jason (Nikki) Eckman, Fargo, ND, Jacob Eckman, Moorhead, MN; his mother, Verna Eckman, Moorhead, MN; two brothers, Lyle Eckman, Pasco, WA, Leon (Sandy) Eckman, Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters, Emily (Carl) Pierce, Moorhead, MN, Kathy (Larry) Kraft, New Rockford, ND, Kris (Steve) Seaburg, Lakeville, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Eckman and one brother, Duane Eckman.
