Thomas J. Wydella

Thomas “Buck” Wydella, 87, of Prior Lake, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 peacefully at home surrounded by family.

He was a truck driver for 35 years and a hall monitor at Prior Lake High School for 23 years, retiring in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean; sons, Stan (Sally), Tom, Joe and Ron; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters; many relatives and friends.

Memorial gathering is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Cremation Society of MN Chapel, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina (952-924-4100). In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Keith Marschall Thaves

Keith Thaves, 90, passed away peacefully at St. Gertrude’s Health Care Center on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008.

Funeral services were on both Thursday and Friday, Feb. 7 and Feb. 8. On Thursday, a funeral service was held at 10 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Edina, followed by internment at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Friday’s memorial service was at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Jordan with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.

Keith Marshall Thaves was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Lakota, Iowa to John Gustav and Gertrude Alice (Legg) Thaves. As a member of the local Boy Scouts, he achieved the rank of Star Scout. He graduated in 1934 from Burt, Iowa High School.

Keith served 4-1/2 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later became the U.S. Air Force) and was honorably discharged from Fort Randall, Texas in 1946 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He graduated from the School of Journalism at the University of Minnesota in 1949. Later in life, continuing his education, Keith completed the Dale Carnegie Course and became a distinguished Toastmaster. His first job after graduation was at the Daily Telegram in Adrian, Mich. before moving to Norfolk, Va. to work in the advertising department of the Norfolk News and Virginian Pilot.

In November 1953, Keith moved to Prescott, Wis. and purchased the Prescott Journal newspaper, one of the oldest weekly papers in Wisconsin. He also worked in the business and advertising departments for the Delavan Enterprise (Delavan, Wis.) and Faribault Daily News (Faribault, Minn.) newspaper.

In 1957, Keith moved to Jordan, and completed the purchase of the Jordan Independent from the John E. Casey family on Feb. 1, 1957. Four years later, in 1960, he founded the Prior Lake American newspaper. In 1969, he founded KTMF (presently KCHK) radio with two partners.

On Sept. 23, 1960, Keith married Mary Elizabeth Schanberger at the Cathedral of Our Most Merciful Savior Church in Faribault. There were three children born to this union: Alisa Jo, Jeffrey Keith and Christopher John. The family was 45-year members of St. Alban’s Church in Edina where Keith was a lector and chalice bearer. He also served on the church vestry, stewardship, children’s ministry and as editor of the monthly newsletter.

He was active in several local organizations, including the Jordan Commercial Club (past president), Jordan Lions (charter member and past president) and American Legion (past commander). He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a Zurah Shriner.

After retiring in 1981, he spent time traveling with his family. This included trips to Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, England and Europe. He liked to read and wrote his life history from his earliest remembrances to this past summer. From 1994 to 1999, Keith was manager of the Scott County Agricultural Society, which oversees the Scott County Fair operations. He and Liz were selected as the Heimetfest Senior Royalty for Jordan and served the community in that position from Sept. 1999 to Sept. 2000.

Loved and forever missed by loving wife, Liz Thaves of Jordan; children, Alisa (Brian) Peterson of Lakeville, Jeff (Lori) Thaves of Belle Plaine, Chris Thaves of Belle Plaine; grandchildren: Amanda, Allen, Billy and Bob Peterson, Kelsey and Collin Thaves, Bradey Thaves; sister, Virginia Rodli of River Falls, Wis., sister-in-law, Katy Thaves of LaJolla, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Keith (Kathryn) Rodli of River Falls, Wis., Jan (Sam) Yee of Chicago, Sue (David) Astin of Golden Valley, Tom Thaves of La Jolla, Sara (Michael) Eckhardt of Seattle, Wash.; great-nieces and nephews.

Carroll Sheppard

Carroll “Wayne” Sheppard, 61, of Baytown, Texas, went to be with the Lord at a Houston hospital Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. He is survived by family in the Prior Lake area.

He was born Oct. 8, 1946 to Marvin “Pete” Sheppard and Olga Rhodes Sheppard in Baytown, where he attended school. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965 and Lee College.

He joined the Army in 1966 and served three years. He qualified for Special Forces training and served one tour in Vietnam as a Green Beret. After returning from Vietnam, he went to work for Exxon Company, U.S.A. as an Instrument Technician and retired from Contech Engineering in 2003. He was a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church.

Wayne enjoyed his family and grandchildren. He was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed playing baseball, encouraging his son and grandsons to enjoy baseball too. He enjoyed being a part of the Sitton Dirt Track Racing Team since 1980. He loved dirt track racing and was a very dedicated pit crew member. He enjoyed barbecuing for the group and went out of his way to help his friend of 28 years, Tim Sitton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin “Pete” Sheppard; grandparents, Jesse F. and Fannie Rhodes and Rufus and Sally Sheppard; infant sister, Carolyn Anne Sheppard. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Sheppard; mother, Olga Sheppard, brother, Mike Sheppard and wife Robin, sister, Melanie Freeman and husband, Joe, all of Baytown; daughters, Lisa Sheppard, Carolyn Harmon, and Marsha Dailey; and son, Michael Sheppard. He was PaPaw and was dearly loved by his granddaughters, Katie Sheppard and Sarah Sheppard; grandsons, Jesse Sheppard, Nathan Sheppard, Jeremy Harmon Jr., Jacob Harmon and Matthew Harmon; and great grandson, Kolten Mcmillian.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 9, starting at 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. Mark Broussard officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Sheppard, Joe Freeman, Tim Sitton, Ben Wilson, Glen Pelts, and David Rose. At his request, his body will be cremated afterwards.

Wayne will be dearly missed by all who had the chance to be touched by his caring soul, but Wayne O “PaPaw” will live forever in our hearts.

Timothy J. McLaughlin

Timothy McLaughlin, 50, of Prior Lake, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, Jan. 30, at noon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savage. Visitation is at the church on Saturday after 10 a.m.

Gary Lee Stage

Gary was a big, strong man with a heart-of-gold personality, who loved the outdoors and his family. The love of his life was riding horses and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed spending his time bow hunting, fishing, weight lifting and winter camping with his son.

Gary, 51, of St. Croix Falls, WI, formally of New Prague, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 in Polk County, WI.

Born Sept. 10, 1958 in Shakopee, he was the son of Gordon and Patricia (Hammerschmidt) Stage.

He is loved and will be missed by children, Shannon Rose of New Market, Nicholas (Joan) Stage of Lonsdale, and their mother, Carolyn Stage of New Prague; grandchildren, Preston James Stage and Anna Melissa Stage; siblings, Rick (Darlene) Stage, Kathy Rogers, Jeff (Joni) Stage, Kelly (Robin) Stage, Sue (Tom) Laqua all of Wisconsin; special friends, Dorothy Sveback of Wisconsin, Dallas (RaeAnn) Steffen of Belle Plaine and many other relatives and friends. Gary is preceded in death by parents.

Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, Jan. 30, at noon with visitation two hours prior to the service, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 S. Marschall Road in Shakopee. The Rev. John Lapensky will officiate. Urn bearers will be his two children, Shannon and Nicholas.

Robert Clark Haley

Robert Haley, 82, of McKenna Crossing and Keystone Communities in Prior Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie (Van Gorder) Haley; stepfather, Charles Morris; sister, Juanita; half-brother, Charles Morris. Survivors include daughters, Michaelle Guess, Becky Wagner and their mother, Mary Jean Morris; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Born June 22, 1927 in Minneapolis, Bob worked a variety of jobs but enjoyed selling cars, and driving trucks and buses the most. Happiest on the go, he enjoyed road trips on his motorcycle. He was a voracious reader, and enjoyed boating and cooking. Always optimistic, he greeted everyone with a contagious smile. Bob will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched, especially his dear friend, Brenda Rodgers.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Dec. 18, at the Chapel at McKenna Crossing.

Marcia Davis

Marcia Davis, 74, of Diamond City Ariz. and formerly of Prior Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 after a battle with colon cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Al; son, Mark (Kim) Davis; daughter, Marcia Anne (Greg) Wolf; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. Memorials can be sent to Hospice of the Hills, 501 East Sherman, Harrison, AR 72601.

Barbara K. (Siegmund) Pahl

Barbara, a brave, strong, creative and organized wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, was an inspiration to everyone and a dedicated Catholic. A communicator and activities director for the entire family, Barbara was an awesome cook, trying new recipes and enjoying cooking with her daughter. She was a talented woman who loved knitting, making ceramics, and painting. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, Bejeweled, computer card games, watching TV, and movies. She loved the music of John Denver and the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah. Her passion in life was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to the park, pool and on walks. Barbara had a contagious laugh, a gift of shopping, and was her husband’s right hand woman for his business “Pahl’s Automotive.”

Barbara, 62, of Jordan, entered God’s arms Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at the Lodge of Natchez in Elko. She was born June 16, 1947 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Mickus) Siegmund. She was united in marriage July 12, 1968 to Bruce Pahl at the Church of St. Michael in Prior Lake.

She will be loved and forever missed by husband, Bruce; daughter, Julie (Todd) Schmitz of Webster; son, Jeremy Pahl of Webster; grandchildren, Sean, Joshua, Krystal and Chelsea Schmitz; mother, Ruth Siegmund of Apple Valley; siblings, Vicki (Cliff) Amundson of Apple Valley, Patty (Ron) Olson of Chaska, Susan (Stephen Brown) Whaley of Minneapolis, Peter (Teri) Siegmund of Grand Junction, Colo.; many loved nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Henry Siegmund.

Visitation was Monday, Dec. 14, from 4-8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Jordan, and one hour prior at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Jordan. Interment was at Calvary cemetery in Jordan. Pallbearers included Sean Schmitz, Joshua Schmitz, Timothy Pahl, Craig Wenisch, Stephen Brown, Cliff Amundson, Ron Olson, and Patty McFadden.

Glennice Joan Draeger

Joan, a wife, mother and grandmother, who had an open, accepting and happy heart, with unconditional love for everyone. She was a dedicated military wife for 23 years, as her husband served in the Air Force. She loved the outdoors, especially camping with the family, taking nature walks, bird watching and campfires. Joan enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, photography, and light houses. She loved watching old western movies, the music of Alan Jackson and Christmas carols. Joan was a lifelong member of the Prior Lake V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Her family will miss her bright smile and laugh.

Joan, 76, of Prior Lake, entered God’s arms on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. She was born Sept. 21, 1933 in Windham, Maine, the daughter of Glenn and Izell Verrill. Joan was united in marriage to Arthur Draeger on July 18, 1952 in Brookline, Mass.

Loved and will be forever missed by husband, Arthur, of 57 years; children, Sharon Draeger of Apple Valley, Michael Draeger of Searcy, Ariz, Richard (Marion) Draeger of Apple Valley, Ken (Lislie) Draeger of Le Center, Tom (Katie) Draeger of Morristown; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Verrill of Porter, Maine.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Candy Draeger; sister, Margie Douglass; brother, Llewellyn Verrill.

Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 17, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Michael, Prior Lake. The Rev. Tom Sieg officiated. Interment at Fort Snelling National cemetery in Minneapolis. Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
