Pearl E. Menden, age 87, of Shakopee passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee. Pearl was born on February 14, 1925 in Waconia, Minnesota the daughter of Edwin and Ella (Gatz) Burandt. She was a graduate of Waconia High School and on August 25, 1956 she married Irvin Menden in Shakopee. Pearl was employed for the American Glove Factory in Shakopee prior to retirement.
She is survived by children, Marie (Frank) Kohout, Bob (Mary) Kaufhold, Cindy Menden and her special friend Bob Engel, Theresa (Dan) Niesen; 7 grandchildren, Mark Griep, Chris Kartak, Sean and Tony Kaufhold, Meggan Bjorklund, Hannah and Ben Niesen; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 5 sisters, Alvin (Flora) Burandt, Marjorie Lenz, Sylvia Dummer, Darlene Tesch, Larry(Joyce) Burandt, Diane Kyes, Karen (Marcel) Gueningsman; sister-in-law, Anna Burandt. She was preceded in death by husband, Irvin; granddaughter, Shelly Griep; brothers, Dennis and Melvin Burandt.

Georgiana 'Nan' Moonen
7/28/1924 — 10/1/2012
Georgiana E. 'Nan', age 88, of Shakopee, died on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Augustana Emerald Crest in Shakopee. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Emeral Crest.
Nan was born in Cologne, MN on July 28, 1924, the daughter of Albert and Eleanor (Roufs) Schepers. She married Eugene Moonen on November 11, 1944, in Cologne. Nan was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Shakopee; she was very active at Church of St. Mary in Shakopee; she was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Aid Society in Cologne; bingo, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and doing crafts were some of her many interests.
Survived by husband, Gene; sons, Terry (Nancy) and Tim; daughter, Mary Jo King; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karen; 4 sisters and 2 brothers. preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ken Schaum; son, David; and a sister.

Dorothy M. Traxler
7/3/1913 — 9/30/2012
Dorothy M., age 99, of Shakopee, died on September 30, 2012, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Born on July 3, 1913, in New Prague, MN, the daughter of John F. Bruzek, Sr. and Mary (Holub).
Dorothy was very active at her churches, and attended Mass everyday. Since 1955, Dorothy was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Besides religion, she enjoyed politics, cooking, and sewing.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Jim (Sharon) Traxler of Bloomington; grandchildren, Stephen (Deb) Traxler, Timothy (Bev) Traxler, Kathryn (Thomas) Hosley, Anna (Glenn) Saben, Susan Hill; great-grandchildren, Tessa, Jayson, Justyn, Trey, Zoe; many other relatives and friends.
preceded in death by husband, Bert; sisters, Annette Dunlop, Louise Parkos; brothers, Dan and Ben Bruzek.

Gerald L. Baer
6/17/1947 — 11/15/2012
Gerald L. Baer, age 65, of Shakopee died on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at his home. Jerry was born on June 17, 1947 in Aberdeen, South Dakota the son of Peter and Gladys (Uttenhove) Baer. He married Sharon Dillon on February 20, 1971 in Brookings, South Dakota. He and his family were the owners of the original Jerry's Pizza in Shakopee for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Roger (Pam), Richard (Kristi), Ronald (Carol), Mark (Michelle); mother, Gladys Baer; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and brother, Al (Georgia) Baer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Michael, father, Peter and infant brother, Donald.

Audrey Marie Showalter

Audrey M. Showalter, age 83, of Faribault, Minnesota, died at her home in Jordan, Minnesota, on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
Audrey was born on March 10, 1929, in Faribault, MN, the daughter of Marshall and Grace (Tatge) Perron.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husbands, Harwood 'Teak' Rinsem, and Orville Showalter; son, Mark Rinsem; grandson, Joshua Rinsem; great-grandchild, Tyler; brother and sister, James Perron and Janiece Underdahl. Survivors include her two sons, Bradley Rinsem and wife, Kristina, of Boca Raton, FL, James Rinsem and wife, Avis, of Savage, MN; 8 grandchildren, Stacy Rinsem, Kristina Warmka, Christopher Rinsem, Sonia Rinsem, Angela Rinsem, Amie Stark, Amber Rinsem, Paige Rinsem; 10 great-grandchildren.
Audrey enjoyed interior decorating and floral design. She was also passionate about dog rescue.

Loretta M. Giles

Loretta M. Giles, age 82, died on Friday, November 9, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Loretta was born on May 11, 1930 in Farmington, MN, the daughter of William and Louise (Tutewohl) Martin. She married Edward Giles on October 17, 1953, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage, and together they had 9 children.
Loretta was preceded in death by loving husband, Edward; son, Dwayne; son-in-law, Dave Williamson; and her parents.
She is survived by children, Dave (Shari), Mary (Jeff) Hoglin, Lori (Rick) Hynes, Kevin (LuAnn), Denise Williamson, Dan (Kristin), Chris (Katie) and Colleen (Kevin) Casey; grandchildren, Jacob (Kim), Jeremy, Justin, Sam, Rachel, Kara, Collin and Gavin Giles, Leah and Andrea Hoglin, Mike (Leah), Krissy, Liz and Kurt Hynes, Sarah, Ashley, Caitlin and Logan Giles, Cory, Danny, Garrett and Joey Plinck, Jack Giles, Alex, Dusty, Joey, and Ryan Casey; great grandchildren, Kody and Garett Giles, Bailey, Silvia and Rachel Hynes, twin brother, Lawrence 'Jack'; brothers, Leo (Geneva) and Bill (Darlene) Martin; sisters, Ceil Giles, Lucille Lois, Louise Anderson and Mary (John) Gallagher.

Nancy J. Vaughan

Nancy J. Vaughan, age 78, of Shakopee, died on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Nancy was born on April 28, 1934, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Harald and Olga (Lerum) Hovland. Nancy married Dale Vaughan on June 4, 1955, in Austin, MN. She was a stay at home mom, raising their 8 children.
She is survived by children and grandchildren: Bob, Carol, Josh, Kalli, and Tyler Vaughan; Barb Vaughan; Kathy, Greg, Sam, and Sophie Krauth; Joe, Karla, Gracie, and Danny Vaughan; Mary, Patrick, Alexandra, and Bryn Hager; Carolyn, Patrick, Hannah, Abby, and Claire Jones; Mike, Geneve, Anna, and Isaac Vaughan; and Susan, Jon, Owen, and Ben Vaughan-Fier. Brother and sister-in-law Nathan and Virginia Hovland; Sisters and brother-in-law Marion Travetto and Deanna and Bill LeBarron; many nieces and nephews; and a lot friends who also were her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; grandson Peter; parents Harald and Olga Hovland; and brothers and sister Emery, Irene, Henry, George, Arthur, Orlo, Dean, and David.

Michael Paul Bruce

Michael Paul Bruce, age 54, of Shakopee, died on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at his residence.
Michael was born on May 16, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Lawrence 'Larry' Bruce and Carmella (Cinelli).
Survived by his companion of 32 years, Laura Jarrett; children, Justin (Valerie), Robyn (Justin), Anthony (Nikki); 9 grandchildren; dad, Larry (Sharon) Bruce; mother, Carmella Bruce; sister, Patti Voges; brothers, Josh, Tracy, Christopher; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie; and grandparents.

Vera was born on February 15, 1925, in Vysokaya Lipa, Belarus, the daughter of Ivan and Eva (Demukh) Romanchuk.

Shirley Plekkenpol

Shirley Plekkenpol, age 70, of Shakopee, entered eternal life on November 2, 2012, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, MN. Shirley was born on January 25, 1942 in Veseli, Minnesota the daughter of Frank and Anna (Flicek) Ruzicka. She married George Plekkenpol on April 25, 1964 at Veseli, Minnesota. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker and was a member of the James Campbell #1685 Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary of Shakopee. Shirley was a retired employee of Birchwood Laboratories where she was employed in packaging.
Survivors include her sons, Mark and wife Sandie of Murphy, Texas, Gary of Shakopee; granddaughters, Julie (Ricky) Addie of Liberty City, Texas, Kirsten Shumaker of Dallas, Texas; great-granddaughter, Paige Addie of Liberty City, Texas; great-grandsons of Reiger Covey of Dallas, Texas and Corby Addie of Liberty City, Texas; brother, Frank Ruzicka of New Prague; sisters, Rosie Tuma of Lonsdale and Anne Eischens of Prior Lake; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and June Plekkenpol of Shakopee, Herb and Mary Hirscher of Houston, Texas; nieces, nephews, family and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Mike J. 'Howard' Carkhuff, age 46, of Shakopee, formerly of Wadena, MN, died on Monday, October 22, 2012, in Shakopee. Born on July 6, 1966, in Wadena, MN, the son of Ray and Leona (Kupfer) Carkhuff. He graduated from Wadena High School, and was employed at SuperValue. Howard's family and friends were the most important thing to him; he especially enjoyed watching his kids play sports. He also liked hunting and fishing.
Howard will be missed by daughter, Rachel (Craig) Larson; son, Brentan; mother, Leona; brothers and sisters, Father Tom, Mary (John) Blom, Sue (Galen) Hieb, Joyce (Jarel) Hieb, Bill (Diane), Trish (Bruce) Steinkopf, Jim (Laurie). He is preceded in death by son, Ryan; father, Ray; brother, Roger; brothers-in-law, Greg Hergott, Tony Nanik.
