Age 78 of Eagan, MN died on October 13th in his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Winifred, his brother-in-law John, and his son, Scott. He is survived by his children Anne (Dean), Mark (Janessa), and Lynne; his sisters Joan and Gail (Don); his grandchildren Megan, Ashley, Lauren, Jonathon and Dylan; his great-grandson, Hunter and many friends and relatives. He retired from a lifelong career at Unisys and was active with his ski and orienteering clubs where he had many friends and enjoyed many adventures. He will be greatly missed. Memorial gathering Sunday 10/26 1-5PM, 1740-1750 Kyllo Lane, Eagan.

Age 66 of St. Cloud. Beloved Mother and Grandmother. Lorraine Lang (Minier) born Septmeber 7th, 1948 to Charles and Hazel Lang. Lorraine was an outgoing and very spirited person. She enjoyed being with her family and to her grandchildren will always be remembered as Nana Rain. She will be forever missed by her daughter's Nicole Lang-Wieber (Jeff) and Jessica Minier-Porter (Brandon), her four grandchildren Preston James (9), Austin Alexander (8), Matthew Lawrence (8), and her only granddaughter Madilynn Lorraine (7), named after Lorraine, her two brothers Mike Lang (Joanne), Charles, and missed by her friend and life partner William Minier. She was joined in Heavenly bliss by her father Charles, mother Hazel, brother Larry, sister Marion, and daughter Kimberly.

Age 57 of Shoreview, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 8, 2014. He is preceded in death by his father Wallace and brother Larry. Survived by children Jake, Curt, and Kari (Leo), and mom Florence "Pudge" and brothers Dwight, Vernon and Duane and their families. Brian was a fun loving guy who loved his family. He enjoyed the outdoor life and was an active supporter of the kidney foundation. There will be a "celebration of Brian's life" get together with only his close friends and family at the Green Mill restaurant in Shoreview, Minnesota on Saturday, October 11, 2014 (between 1 to 4 pm).

Poferl, Sandra Jean

Age 70 of Backus, MN passed away peacefully on December 11, 2014 after a short, but hard fought battle with lung & brain cancer. Sandy was born on September 28, 1944 in Norman, OK. Graduated from Oakland High School (CA) in 1962, and married Theodore Owens that same year. She would then marry Martin Poferl in 1977. Community action was a passion of Sandy's: she was a long-time member of the Lions Club, served on the Pine River-Backus School Board for 12 years, and participated in many other community organizations. In her youth she loved theater and musical performance, having roles in a number of Sons of Norway productions. Mom will forever be remembered for her fervor and iron-will, her compassion for others, and her teenage girl-like love of popular culture, especially Twilight and Harry Potter. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Eugene and Iowa (Halterman) Poferl; beloved step-mother, Betty Ruth; and cherished uncle and aunts, Howard & Dolores Jarrett, and Gaynelle Ellinson. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 37 years, Martin; daughter, Dena Owens-Bowmer; son, Joseph (Jennith); grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Jasper, and Zeke; sisters, Sonia Hardgrave & Susie Poferl; nephew, Christopher Hardgrave and niece, Morgan Poferl; special friend (who was more like a sister), Connie (Ed) Duran; many other loving family and friends, and a number of quasi-kids who she loved and they know who they are! Her family was truly blessed by the number of friends and healthcare workers who helped care for Sandy in her final weeks. We are incredibly grateful for your time and compassion. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.

Splett, Ellen Mary (nee McDonald)

Age 75, of Mahtomedi, MN (formerly of Lakeville, MN, and Tampa) died December 9 while in hospice care, surrounded by her family and friends. Ellen was born August 4, 1939, in Marshfield, WI, to Lawrence and Eleanor (Michels) McDonald. She graduated from Aquinas High School in LaCrosse, and married LaDon Splett of Onalaska, WI, in 1957. Don and Ellen, together for 45 years until Don’s passing in 2002, were 37-year residents of Lakeville and retired to the Tampa area in 2002. In 2012, Ellen returned to live in Minnesota. She is survived by two sons, Larry (Deb) of Luck, WI, and Stephen (Connie) of Lutz, FL. Ellen is the treasured grandmother of Jamison (Catherine), Katelynn, Breanna, McKenna and Benjamin. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ellen was preceded in death by devoted husband Don, her parents, and two cherished sisters, Laurette “Letty” Chick and Margaret Dalton. In loving, faith-centered partnership with Don, Ellen - mostly as a working mother - made a happy, nurturing home for her family. One that provided invaluable guidance, security and life lessons for her sons. She will be remembered for unfailing devotion to and care for others, always living the best-possible example of a genuinely selfless daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. As residents of Lakeville, after moving from LaCrosse for Don’s job at Continental Machines in Savage, MN, Ellen and Don were active parishioners of All Saints Catholic Church. Her time in both Minnesota and Florida was filled with numerous friendships that remained all-important to her. Ellen’s family is very grateful for the care, support and friendship provided by Coventry Senior Living staff and residents, Fresenius Medical Care of Maplewood, Gentiva Health Services, Bluestone Physician Services, Dr. Raymond Poor, and a wonderful parishioner support network at St. Jude of the Lake Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Jude of the Lake in Mahtomedi, Minn (651-426-3245). Visitation at 10 am. Mass at 11 am. Luncheon following the mass. Interment will be in Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Kruse, Russel James

Russel Kruse of Rush City, passed away at his home on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the age of 66. Russel James Kruse was born on October 28, 1948 in Rush City to Carl & Ruth (Rodblom) Kruse. He was the youngest of three boys. He played in a band called the "Shy Kind" that played at a lot of area schools and establishments. He graduated from Rush City High School in 1967 and went right back there to work as a custodian, maintenance boiler operator and bus driver. He retired in 2000 after 32 years in the Rush City School District. Russel married Betty Kalb in May 1968 and they had three children and five grandchildren. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1969 and served until 1971. A Vietnam Veteran with life membership in the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692 Russel held many positions over the years. He was Post Commander 1993-1994. In 1974, he started building his house, east of Rush City, with the help of his father Carl and many other family and friends. Russel married Trud Nordstrom on December 13, 1975 and his family increased by two children and two grandchildren. Russel enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping from an early age. He loved animals and had a wide variety over the years. Russel enjoyed traveling and family vacations to many states and locations. After learning of his medical condition Russel wanted to travel more and they became “Arizona snowbirds”, made several trips to Mexico, Vegas, Alaska, London, Paris, Amsterdam and Holland. Russel is survived by his wife Trudy, children: Rhonda (Rodney) Williamson of Pine City, Robin (Loren) Skluzacek of Pine City, Jon Kruse of Vadnais Heights, Rachel (Jesse) Hedtke of Rush City, James Kruse of Rush City; seven grandchildren, brothers: Leon (Melody) Kruse and Lonnie (Sue) Kruse of Punta Gorda, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl & Ruth (Rodblom) Kruse, his sister-in-law Emily Kruse and father-in-law Arnold Nordstrom. Reverend John Beck will officiate at a celebration of Russ's life; 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service also at the chapel. Lahouze, Christophe Gabriel Donald "Chris"

Age 36 of Minnetonka. He is survived by his parents, Kathleen Lahouze of Minnetonka and Jean-Luc Lahouze of Ustaritz, France, as well as brother, Patrick (Andrea) Lahouze of Hopkins; and niece, Madeleine; grandmother, Joyce (Don) Nelson; many aunts and cousins, companion Heidi, and countless friends. Born Nov. 23, 1978, Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents and older brother, Aymeric. A loyal and thoughtful, open-hearted friend and family member, Chris was known for his generous spirit and always helping people in need. He was a passionate jazz musician and a dedicated employee. He loved Minnesota and its various sports teams, as well as France, his second home. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Boulevard, Minnetonka, MN 55345. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.

Yarborough, Robert (Bob) Allen "51"

Age 46 of Shoreview. Bob “51” Yarborough, true gentleman, friend to all, enemy of none, departed this life on Saturday, 12/6/14. Restored at last to the freedom of the road, “51” roared his way to that great Highway in the sky. He is survived by his mother Mary Yarborough, sister Eileen Flaherty, nieces Megan and Caitlin, nephew Aidan, devoted caregivers Aunt Barb, Rick and Paul, more close family and many, many friends. Bob was a big-hearted man who would offer whatever you needed, be it the shirt off his back, or his skilled gifts under the hood of your vehicle. Those needing a friend needed look no further than “51”. Moreover, he was a man of singular, quiet courage, who met every day with remarkable good cheer, extraordinary strength of spirit, and transcendent grace, following his diagnosis with ALS just a year ago. At Bob’s request, there will no sad memorial service, but rather, a “Redneck Funeral” in his honor, at the North St. Paul American Legion Post #39, (2678 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul) on Friday, December 12, 2014, with visitation and a light dinner beginning at 5:00 p.m. There will be a shared toast in joyous celebration of his well-lived life at 7:00 p.m., followed by music, drinks, love, laughter, and lots of “51” stories, as together, we try and imagine his revved up arrival at those Pearly Gates. Memorials preferred to family.

Survived by loving wife of 53 years, Maureen; son, Wayne (Cammie); daughters, Esther (John) O'Brien and Nicole (Jason) Woodrum; 7 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids; 9 siblings; and many other loving family & friends. Graveside Service Wed., Dec. 10, 2pm at Ft. Snelling National cemetery. A loving husband, father, and grandfather will be greatly missed.
