William “Bill” Sprung, 74

William “Bill” Sprung, 74, Breckenridge, Minn., died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at his home under the care of Riveredge Hospice.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at Vertin-Munson Funeral home, Wahpeton; from 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton; one hour prior to the service at the church Friday.

Burial will be at Calvary cemetery, Wahpeton.

William “Bill” F. Sprung, 74

William “Bill” F. Sprung, 74, Breckenridge, Minn., died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at his home under the care of Riveredge Hospice.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Thursday at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and from 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer vigil, followed by a Rosary at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Burial will be at Calvary cemetery, Wahpeton.

Bill was born Dec. 16, 1935, at Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Clifford and Beatrice (Deaney) Sprung. He grew up in LeRoy, Minn., and at the age of 4, moved to Milwaukee, Wis., graduating from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee in 1953. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in various duty stations in the U.S. and reached the rank of staff sergeant. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves after his active service until he moved to Moorhead, Minn., where he enrolled and received a degree in accounting and business administration at Moorhead State University.

He was united in marriage to Jean Litschauer on Nov. 8, 1958, at St. Galls Catholic Church, Tintah, Minn. The couple lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area where Bill worked for the Fargo District Office of International Harvester. He began working for Lillegard Inc. of Wahpeton in 1967 as an office manager and accountant. He moved to Wahpeton in 1968 where he and Jean raised their six children. Bill continued to work at Lillegard’s and progressed to chairman of the firm. Jean died Oct. 12, 1998. Bill married Yvonne Robinson in October 2004 and they resided in Breckenridge. Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Bill was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister and taught in Faith Formation for 20 plus years, often following his former students in their activities. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 2205, where he obtained his 4th Degree and was acknowledged as the 2003 Knight of the Year and was the Past Grand Knight. He volunteered at the crisis center, was a member of the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Posse and enjoyed swimming and golf.

Bill is survived by: his wife, Yvonne, Breckenridge; five children, William Jr. (Judi) Sprung, New Ulm, Minn., Christopher (DeAnne Hilgers) Sprung, St. Paul, Minn., Melissa (Richard) Prochnow, Hankinson, N.D., Kevin Sprung, West Fargo, N.D., Erin (James) Fettig, Twin Cities, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Sprung, Wheaton, Minn.; four step-children, Jesse, Jake, Joshua and Zachary Robinson; 13 grandchildren, Allison, Matthew, Michael, Jack, Marian, Ruth, Rebekah, Kristin, Nicholas, Alexandra, Miranda, Cassandra and Emma; one great-grandchild, Maya, and step-grandchild, Brock.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Jean Sprung; and his son, Michael Sprung.

Alan Bullis Sr., 58

Alan Bullis Sr., 58, Tintah, Minn., died Sept. 5, 2010, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, N.D., surrounded by his family.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at Tintah Congregational Church in Tintah with the Rev. Wendell Kelm officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn.

Burial is at Riverside cemetery, Nashua, Minn.

Pallbearers are Henry Petermann, Curtis Petermann, Hank Petermann, John Schuster, William Cain and Tom Davids.

Alan Lee Bullis was born on Oct. 7, 1951, in Fergus Falls, Minn., to Donald and Charlotte (Shuck) Bullis. Alan was baptized and confirmed in the Tintah Congregational Church. He attended Tintah Public School, graduating in 1969. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1970 and during his nine years of service, he was stationed on a submarine and a naval ship, and served in various places, including Iceland. While he was in the Navy, he met and married Monica Danzeisen. Together they had three sons; Michael, Jason and Donald.

In 1979, Alan was discharged from the Navy and moved to Graceville, Minn. Alan married Brenda Verlinde. Brenda’s daughter, Lynette Ozbirn, was also welcomed into the Bullis family. Alan and Brenda had two children together: Alan Lee Jr. and Sheri Ann. Alan started his civilian career as a truck driver.

He later moved to Hastings, Minn., with Jason, Donnie and Lee where he worked as assistant manager of the Back Porch Restaurant. But it wasn’t long before he returned to his true vocation, which was trucking. He became a commercial driver’s license instructor at the Central Community College, Hastings. Then, Alan became director at the trucking school when he moved to Neosho, Mo.

Alan married Stephanie Friend in Tintah, Minn., and shortly after, they adopted Sheyenne Frances. Alan continued to truck throughout the central part to the U.S. until 2007 when he suffered a heart attack. This prompted a life change. He devoted his time to his family and enjoying his grandchildren. Living in Tintah, he was able to spend valuable time with his son Donnie who died in June. Alan then shifted his focus to helping other families dealing with traumatic brain injuries, until his untimely death.

Alan is survived by: his sons, Jason (Sara) Bullis of Mandan, N.D., Alan (Jessica Donohue) Bullis Jr. of Fargo, N.D.; his daughters, Sheri (Michael) Martinez of Tintah, Lynette Fales of Breckenridge, Minn., Sheyenne Bullis of Neosho; his daughter-in-law, Jessica Kassahn of Tintah; his grandchildren, Briget and Camden Bullis, Aden and Lucas Martinez, Dominic Stanley and Kaylee Bullis, Lillisa, Saje and Christian Fales; his siblings, Barb (Mark) Westman of Lincoln, Neb., Vickie (Steve) Johnson of Burwell, Neb., Randy (Barb) Bullis of Tintah, Lucinda (Josh) Hollen of Clinton, Minn.; his parents, Donald and Charlotte Bullis of Tintah; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Alan is preceded by: his son, Donald Bullis (June 25, 2010); his grandparents, Ernest and Abby Bullis and Orville and Lottie Shuck.

Russell Selby, 79

Russell Selby, 79, Rural Kent, Minn., died peacefully in his home Sept. 9, 2010.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Minn., with the Rev. Mark Manning officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Riverside cemetery, Breckenridge.

Ruth "Frances" Weber, 95

Ruth "Frances" Weber, 95, Rochester, N.Y., formerly, Tintah, Minn., died Sept. 3, 2010.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Tintah.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn.

Further arrangements are pending with Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home.

Ruth ‘Frances’ Weber, 94

Ruth ‘Frances’ Weber, 94, Rochester, N.Y., formerly of Campbell, Minn., died peacefully on Sept. 3, 2010, at Park Ridge Living Center in Rochester.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at St. Gall’s Catholic Church, Tintah, Minn., with the Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn., and one hour prior to the funeral service at St. Gall’s Catholic Church.

Burial will be at Calvary cemetery, Wahpeton, N.D.

Ruth Frances Driscoll was born Nov. 26, 1915, the daughter of James and Anne (Sullivan) Driscoll in East Grand Forks, Minn. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating in 1932. After one year of normal school, Frances taught in a one-room school house near Tabor, Minn. She then attended Moorhead (Minn.) State College, graduating in 1939. She taught at Campbell Public School and Melrose (Minn.) Public School prior to her marriage to Ira Weber in San Diego, Calif., on Aug. 26, 1943.

During World War II she worked at an airplane factory, riveting wings onto planes for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Babe and Frances returned to Campbell in 1945 and Babe took over the Weber Blacksmith Shop, later known as Weber Chevrolet and Repair. Frances returned to teaching in 1960 in a one-room school near Campbell. When the school consolidated with Campbell Public School, Frances began teaching third grade. She taught for more than 30 years, the last few years teaching under Title I Math and Reading. After retiring, Frances and Babe formed the Weber Duo, performing at family functions and nursing homes. Together they brought the joy of music to many people. She loved cooking and baking for her family.

Frances is survived by: her daughters, Mary Jo (Richard) Diehl of Rochester, Ruth Ann (Lambert) Brunkhorst of Thief River Falls, Minn., Rosemary (Charles) Popelka of Bowie, Md.; her son, Donn (Terry) of Fergus Falls, Minn.; her grandchildren, Jason (Kista) and Justin Brunkhorst of Cross Lake, Minn., Jessica (David) Wilkinson and Joanna Brunkhorst of Grand Forks, N.D., Jenny (Bruce) Cyr of Watsonville, Calif., Michele (Ted) Ricks of Rochester, Jeremy (Darcy) Jorgensen of Campbell, Jessica (Darren) Kaehler of Breckenridge, Ryan Jorgensen (fiancee` Katie Buss) of Fargo, N.D., Jeremy and Patrick Popelka of Bowie; 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded by: her husband, Ira ‘Babe’ in 1987; her daughter, Kathleen Weber-Seay in 2006; her grandson, Jared Brunkhorst; her sisters, Lillian Bushaw, Alda Mongoven, Edna Harvey, Louise Stowe, Mary King, and their spouses; her brothers, James, Charles, Leonard, John ‘Jack’, and their spouses.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gall’s Church, 110 Minnesota Avenue, Tintah, MN 56583.
