Robert Brooks
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Robert Brooks, 80, Bagley, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2000, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.
Robert Brooks was born Nov. 27, 1920, the son of Michael and Flora Brooks, in Rochester, Minn. He grew up in the Clearwater Lake, Minn., area, where he attended school. He later moved to Bagley. He lived in Hastings, Neb., during World War II. He later moved to Rochester, Minn., and Texas. In 1990, he moved to Bagley.
He is survived by a sister, Helen (Walter) Eyster, Bagley; and a brother, Michael, Toledo, Ohio.
Services: No services will be held (Cease, Bagley).
Vernon Christianson
ADA, Minn. -- Vernon L. Christianson, 81, Ada, formerly of Halstad, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in Bridges Care Community, Ada.
Vernon Leo Christianson was born March 24, 1919, the son of Gunder and Ragnild (Severinson) Christianson, in Reynolds, N.D. He moved with his family to Halstad, where he graduated from high school. He married
Thelma Hastad in Lockhart, Minn. He served in the U.S. Military during World War II. He owned and operated Woodman Movie Theatre and Christy's Market, Halstad. He attended Mayville (N.D.) State College, and received his bachelors degree in music in 1963. He taught band in Kindred, Twin Valley, Fosston, Oak Grove, Waubun, Glyndon, and Fort Frances, Ont.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Solveig (Frank) Steenerson, Seattle; sons, James (Kathy), Ada, Michael, Springerville, Ariz., Paul (Nancy), Huntingtown, Md., Mark (Ann), Winnipeg, and Randy, Tonasket, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy (Dagney), Fargo; and sisters, Joyce Johnston, Motley, Minn., and Edna (John) Byrd, Vincennes, Ind.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; brothers, James, Sidney, Milton, Victor, Arnold, and Gerald; and a sister, Alpha Sundseth.
Services: Were held in Ada.
Burial: Halstad South cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).
Evelyn Hickman
WARREN, Minn. -- Evelyn Hickman, 83, Warren, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Albert Lea (Minn.) Medial Center.
Evelyn Viola Johnson was born June 23, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Johanna (Dahlquist) Johnson, in Vega Township, Marshall County, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Lester Hickman on June 23, 1946, in Vega. They lived and farmed in Vega Township. Lester Hickman died July 19, 1973. She worked as a cook for Warren Hospital and as bailiff for Marshall County Court House.
She is survived by children, Jerome (Janet), Albert Lea, JoAnn (Dr. Ronald) Menk, Hinckley, Minn., Ronald (Lesly), Estherville, Iowa, and Betti (Bill) Dowling, Brook Park, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Vega, Warren.
Visitation: After 4 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Warren.
Mildred Turner
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Mildred Turner, 88, Hallock, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, where she had lived for five years.
Celestia Mildred Clarine Hatherley was born Sept. 5, 1912, the daughter of Chester and Iydia (Herron) Hatherley, in St. Vincent, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Humbolt, Minn. She married
Eldon Turner on June 25, 1931, in Hallock. They lived in Humbolt, Minn., where she worked for P.N. Tri Beekeeping and the Humbolt School. Eldon Turner died June 29, 1978. She moved to Hallock.
She is survived by a daughter, Viola Anderson, Minot.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Presbyterian Church, Hallock.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Joe River cemetery, Humbolt, Minn. (Hughes, Hallock).
Agnes Solem
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Agnes Solem, 98, Roseau, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Roseau Area Hospital.
Agnes Marie Holt was born Jan. 10, 1902, the daughter of Ole and Joran Holt, in Hoople, N.D., where she attended school. She married
August Solem on Nov. 12, 1921. She lived in Ross, Minn., until moving to Roseau this past year. August Solem died in 1969.
She is survived by daughters, Jeanette Wellen, Roseau, and Olive (Sanford) Foss, Badger, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Holt, Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Marlys and Phyllis Strozyk; sisters, Andrina, Sophie, Thilda, Jennie and Ida; and brothers, Ole, Henry, Gust and Ted.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Ross.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6: 30 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.
Frank Svalen
McINTOSH, Minn. -- Frank Svalen, 76, McIntosh, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Franklin Alvin Svalen was born Feb. 7, 1924, the son of Charlie and Hilma (Enevold) Svalen, McIntosh, where he attended school. He farmed with his father and worked for farmers in the McIntosh area and in Montana. He married
Janice Olson on March 22, 1960, in McIntosh, where they lived. He worked road construction in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota until retiring in 1987. He later worked with farmers in the McIntosh area
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janet, Bemidji; sons, Joel (Rae Ann), McIntosh, and Jason (Shannon), Bemidji; five grandchildren; brothers, Charles, McIntosh, Delano (Arlene), Braddock, N.D.; and sisters, Gladys Lindberg, Fertile, Minn., and Clarice (Ansel) Haugom, McIntosh.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley; and sisters, Irene Reins, Muriel Svalen, and Florance Svalen.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Salem Lutheran Church, McIntosh.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, McIntosh Community Center, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Salem Lutheran cemetery, McIntosh (Carlin-Hoialmen, McIntosh).
Richard Anderson
WARREN, Minn. -- Richard W. Anderson, 79, Warren, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at home.
Richard William Anderson was born Oct. 9, 1920, the son of Charles and Julia (Svoboda) Anderson, in Warren. He lived in Boxville Township, Marshall County, Minn., where he attended school. He married
Marcielle Gehrls on June 30, 1945. They lived and farmed near Warren.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Ron (Diane), Fargo; two grandchildren; a step grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol (Adolph) Rapacz, Shelton, Wash.
He was preceded in death by three daughters; and a son.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Warren.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 6: 30 to 8 p.m. today, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood cemetery, Warren.
