Chester Grabinski
BLACKDUCK, Minn. -- Chester Grabinski, 76, Blackduck, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Chester Frank Grabinski was born June 22, 1924, the son of Vincent and Minnie (Kulas) Grabanski, in Big Woods Township, Marshall County, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Warsaw, N.D. He married
Florance Korynta in Warsaw. He worked for Western Fruit Railroad and for area farmers from Manvel, N.D. He moved to Blackduck in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, of Oklahoma; sons, Chester (Debbie), Wichita, Kan., Kenny (Tammy), East Grand Forks, and Sylvester, Grand Forks; daughters, Louise (Jim) Wilcox, Shawnee, Okla., Clarice Holmes, Manhattan, Kan., Denise (Jackie) Ebertowski, Grand Forks, and Cheryl Grabinski, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Aurlia Popowski, Chula Vista, Calif.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Hilary, Clarion, Stanley, Julian and Sylvester.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls.
George Kirkeby
SHEVLIN, Minn. -- George Kirkeby, 80, Shevlin, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
George Kirkeby was born Oct. 6, 1920, the son of Hilmen and Luella (Herman) Kirkeby, in Drayton, N.D. He attended school in Walsh County, N.D. He worked in construction in California and on Alcan Highway in Alaska in the early 1940s. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He married
Mangeline Carlson on Dec. 8, 1946. They lived in Grand Forks and Drayton. In 1951, they moved to Shevlin, where he worked as a meat cutter at Shevlin Locker plant. He was a Shevlin rural mail carrier for 23 years. He retired in 1983.
He is survived by his wife; a son, George (Monica), Winston, Ore.; daughters, Kristine (John Carter) Kirkeby, Eugene, Ore., Judith Kirkeby, Seattle, and Dardi (Bryan) Olson, East Grand Forks; two granddaughters; and a brother, Warren (Effie), Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a sister; and five brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Clearwater Lutheran Church, Shevlin.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. family service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley.
Burial: Clearwater Lutheran cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Clearwater Lutheran Church or Bagley Area Scholarship Fund.
Charlie Laymon
OSLO, Minn. -- Charlie B. Laymon, 90, Oslo, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at home.
Charlie Bernard Laymon was born Feb. 26, 1910, the son of Freeman and Sophia (Lith) Laymon, in Putnam, Ill. He moved with his family to Radium, Minn., where he attended school. In 1933, he married
Edith Knoll in Warren, Minn. They lived near Radium, where he farmed. Edith Laymon died July 19, 1981. In 1984, he married
June Pederson, in Oslo, where they lived.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Howard, Bloomington, Minn., and Donald (Marsha), Lake Worth, Fla.; stepchildren, Joslyn Foley, Glendale, Ariz., Cheryl Stang, Denton, Mo., James Pederson, Longview, Texas, and Steven Pederson, Lino Lakes, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Laymon; and several brothers and sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Oslo.
Visitation: After 6 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: Immanual Lutheran cemetery, Radium (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren).
James Henderson
WILLIAMS, Minn. -- James Henderson, 79, Williams, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Williams.
James Clark Henderson was born June 30, 1921, the son of Mary and George Henderson, in Kawick, Scotland. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, the last two in Tacoma, Wash., where he lived from 1964 until 1983. He owned Jim's Time Service at Union Avenue and Center Street in Tacoma until 1979 and then at Canon Road Jackpot until 1983. After retiring in 1983, he moved to Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Viola (Friesner); daughters, Lynda (Bruce) Russell, Portland, Ore., Diane (Michael) Burress, Mercer Island, Wash., and Barbara Henderson (Scott Marcus), Gig Harbor, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Gail Scott, Huntsville, Ala.; a stepsons, Jack Malone, in California; six granddaughters; and sisters, Elizabeth Stumbo and Lillian (Harvey) Kneppel, in California.
Services: No services will be held (Helgeson, Baudette, Minn.).
Brian Anderson
OGEMA, Minn. -- Brian K. Anderson, 18, Ogema, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, as a result of a motor vehicle accident in White Earth, Minn.
Brian K. Anderson was born Sept. 20, 1981, the son of Glenn Van Wert and Beverly Anderson, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He attended Waubun (Minn.) High School. He worked for Brunner Concrete, Mahnomen, Minn., and was currently working for Thorson Road Construction of Bemidji as a flagman.
He is survived by his parents, Glenn "Nege" and Beverly Van Wert, Ogema; sisters, Cindy (Pete) Shade, St. Paul, and Glenda and Melissa Anderson, both of Ogema; and his grandmother, Ethelbert Van Wert, White Earth.
He was preceded in death by a brother John.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Elbow Lake Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake Village, Waubun.
Visitation: Starting Wednesday afternoon in his home.
Burial: Vernon Anderson Memorial cemetery, Waubun (Mattson, Mahnomen).
Lillian Zimmer
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Lillian Zimmer, 94, Roseau, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000.
Lillian Sophie Mattson was born July 17, 1906, the daughter of Erick and Kristine (Lindbland) Mattson, in Roseau. She lived near Roseau for three years and then moved to Salol, Minn., where she attended school. She moved with her sister, Nellie, to Chicago. She married
Joseph Zimmer on April 6, 1965, in Chicago. She worked as manager for Stineway Drug Store Chain until retiring in 1970. They spent winters in Florida. In 1996, they moved to Salol. Joseph Zimmer died in 1998. She had been living in Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Helge, Arthur and Clifford; and sisters, Nellie Mattson, Ida Mattson, Ellen Spray and Anna Strandlund.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Lutheran Church, Salol.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park cemetery, Skokie, Ill.
Mary Jane Svendsen
ARGYLE, Minn. -- Mary Jane Svendsen, 61, Argyle, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Warren, Minn.
Mary Jane Timm was born Jan. 4, 1939, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Olson) Timm, in Argyle, where she graduated from high school. She moved to Warren, where she worked for PKM. She later moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for Key Labs. She married
Derald Svendsen on Nov. 4, 1967, in Argyle. They lived in Argyle.
She is survived by her husband; children, Dawn (Brian) Dall, Maplewood, Minn., Marc (Lynda), Duluth, and Rob, Argyle; two grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Marville) Magnusson, Argyle; and brothers, Ralph Timm, Middle River, Minn., Edward Bjorgaard, Greenbush, Minn., and Roger Bjorgaard, Argyle.
She was preceded in death by her father; her mother; her stepfather, Leonard Bjorgaard; and a brother, Earl.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Alma Lutheran Church, Argyle.
Visitation: After 6 p.m. today, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Woodlawn cemetery, Argyle.
