Mary Jo MeKash
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Mary Jo MeKash, 36, Roseau, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Roseau Area Hospital.
Mary Jo MeKash was born July 9, 1964, the daughter of Emil and Arlene MeKash, in Roseau, where she graduated from high school. She moved to East Grand Forks, where she attended school. She moved to California, where she worked at a travel agency. She also worked for Home Health Care in Roseau, for a chiropractic clinic in Grand Forks and typed for the Roseau Times Region and the Greenbush (Minn.) Tribune.
She is survived by a son, Tyler; her mother, Arlene MeKash, Roseau; her father, Emil (Anita), Roseau; sisters, Marilyn Edman, Warren, Minn., Janet (Mike) Hetteen, Roseau, and Bonnie (Kraig) Lee, Wannaska, Minn.; and brothers, James, in Arizona, and Robert (Anna), John (Bonnie) and Mark (Michelle), all of Roseau.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael; a sister, Joan; and her grandparents.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Moe Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Alma Nelson
MCINTOSH, Minn. -- Alma L. Nelson, 100, McIntosh, formerly of Winger, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in McIntosh Manor Nursing Home, where she had lived since 1985.
Alma Louise Versdahl was born Oct. 14, 1900, the daughter of Andrew and Martha (Nygaard) Versdahl, in Leonard, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Edwin Nelson on June 19, 1924, in Mentor, Minn. They moved to Winger in 1927. Edwin Nelson died in 1967.
She is survived by a son, Dallas (Louise), Litchfield, Minn.; a daughter, Beverly (Dick) Biever, Moorhead; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Nelson, Hackensack, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon; four brothers and five sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, McIntosh Community Center.
Visitation: One hour before services in the center.
Burial: Calvary Lutheran cemetery, Winger (Carlin-Hoialmen, McIntosh).
Ted Znajda
WARREN, Minn. -- Ted J. Znajda, 76, Warren, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Theodore Joseph Znajda was born Jan. 3, 1924, the son of Boleslaw and Felcia (Arciszewski) Znajda, in Yale Township, Beltrami County, Minn., where he attended school. He graduated from high school in Warroad, Minn., in 1942. From 1942 to 1945, he farmed and did carpentry work. He served in the Army Air Force from Aug. 13, 1945 to Feb. 10, 1947. He returned to Warroad and did carpentry work. In 1949, he began working for the Minnesota Game and Fish Department as a refuge patrolman. On Oct. 19, 1959, he became a Minnesota Game Warden/Conservation Officer. In 1960, he was transferred to Warren. He married
Donna Kirkendall on Jan. 21, 1961 in Minneapolis. They lived in Warren. He retired on July 5, 1989.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Pat (Karen), Stephen, Minn.; two grandchildren; and brothers, William Jr. (Jesse Mae), Roosevelt, Minn., and Chester, Chicago.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Winslow; and a sister, Victoria.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, Warren.
Visitation: 9 a.m. Thursday, before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood cemetery, Warren.
Military Rites: Warren American Legion Post No. 27 Honor Guard by the Minnesota State Conservation Officers (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren).
Allen Carlson
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Allen Carlson, 67, Hallock, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, on his farm near Hallock.
Harley Allen Carlson was born Aug. 9, 1933, the son of Henry and Christine (Lindstrom) Carlson, in Hallock, where he attended school. He farmed in Granville Township, Kittson County, Minn., until retiring in 1988.
He is survived by cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Saron cemetery, Hallock (Hughes, Hallock).
Mildred Qualley
WARREN, Minn. -- Mildred Qualley, 88, Warren, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Bethany Good Samaritan Center, Brainerd, Minn.
Mildred Nygren was born May 26, 1912, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Olson) Nygren, in Foldahl Township, Marshall County, Minn., where she attended school. She married
John Qualley on Nov. 15, 1930, in Warren. They lived in McCrea Township, Marshall County, before moving to Foldahl Township, where they farmed. John Qualley died July 14, 1970. She moved to Warren in 1971. She worked as a cook at several places, including the Northwest Bible College, Maple Grove, Minn. She moved to Pequot Lakes, Minn., in 1996 and to Brainerd in 1998.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Marlene) and Darrel (Joyce), both of Pequot Lakes, and the Rev. Ronald (Sandi), Fairfax, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Lyle (Martha); a daughter, Wanda; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Alma Lutheran Church, Argyle, Minn.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. today, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Alma Lutheran cemetery, Argyle.
Francis Chisholm
GARY, Minn. -- Francis Chisholm, 73, Gary, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2000, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Francis Harry Chisholm was born in Nov. 15, 1927, the son of William and Lillian (Mueller) Chisholm, in Gary, where he graduated from high school, in 1946. He farmed with his family. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He married
Ardis Jacobson on Dec. 12, 1955, in Fertile, Minn. In 1962, they bought a farm near Gary. They retired in the early 1990s. He worked for Circle C Seed, Gary.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Bradley (Susan), Avon, Minn., Kelly and Gary; daughters, Colleen (Michael) Sterry, Fort Collins, Colo., Jane (Brett) Foster, Savage, Minn., Charlotte (Robert) Bradford, Duluth, and Jill Chisholm, Gary; six grandchildren; brothers, Keith and Mark, both of Gary; and sisters, Grace Rehder, Moorhead, Rose (Jerome) Jungquist, Minneapolis, and Kathleen (Dennis) Heinze, Roseville, Minn.
He was preceded in death by an infant son and three brothers.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fertile.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, and a 4: 30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Fertile (Anderson, Twin Valley, Minn.).
