Arthur Nordling
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Arthur E. "Art" Nordling, 89, Hallock, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Chapel View Care Center, Hopkins, Minn.
Arthur E. Nordling was born June 16, 1911, the son of August and Alma (Magnuson) Nordling, in Hallock. He grew up and attended school in Thompson Township, Kittson County, Minn. He married
Ida Rukstad on Feb. 22, 1942, in Chicago. They farmed in Thompson Township until retiring in 1980.
He is survived by his wife; a son, James (Janet), Minnetonka, Minn.; a daughter, Sharon (Brad) Goedkoop, Wilder, Vt.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; four brothers; and three sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock.
Burial: Union Liberty cemetery, Hallock.
Adolph Kurtti
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Adolph Kurtti, 77, Mahnomen, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at home.
Adolph Valentine Kurtti was born Dec. 17, 1922, the son of John and Amelia (Nixon) Kurtti, in Hines, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Cass Lake, Minn. He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 9, 1943, serving during World War II. He married
Naomi Luebeck on Jan. 18, 1944, in Bemidji. He was discharged on Sept. 21, 1945. He attended Bemidji State Teacher College. He taught for Menahga, Minn., school system from 1949 to 1956. In 1956, he began teaching in Mahnomen and retired in 1985.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Jeanne Wambach), Savage, Minn.; daughters, Shirley Wright, Forest Lake, Minn., Beverlie Sand, White Bear Lake, Minn., Penny Gunderson, Baker, Minn., and Kathleen (Cletus) Utz, Springfield, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Emil (Jane), Farmington, Ark., Thomas (Borghild), Bemidji, and Dawain (June), St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce; three grandchildren; six brothers; and five sisters.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.
Burial: Fort Snelling National cemetery, Minneapolis.
Military rites: Isaacson-Bjorge Post No. 31 of the American Legion (Anderson, Mahnomen).
Robert Harvey
LAKE GEORGE, Minn. -- Robert J. "Bob" Harvey, 58, Lake George, died from liver cancer Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Robert Jerome Harvey was born Jan. 10, 1942, the son of Jerome and Esther (Johannsen) Harvey, in Bemidji. He grew up in Lake George and graduated from high school in Laporte, Minn. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served for six years. He was discharged in 1967. He returned to Lake George, where he worked for Kahlstorf Logging. He married
Joyce Galliers on Sept. 20, 1968, in Lake George. He went into the construction business and for the past 15 years he worked for Con's Masonry Inc. of Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Craig and Joel, both of Lake George, Michael (Staci), Park Rapids, Minn., and Richard (Caryn), Fargo; two grandchildren; his mother, Lake George; a brother, Jerry (Barb), Lake George; and a sister, Shirley (Lyle) Zubke, Lake George.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jason; and his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake George.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Lake George cemetery.
Norman Mikkelsen
WANNASKA, Minn. -- Norman R. Mikkelsen, 70, Wannaska, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at home.
Norman R. Mikkelsen was born Sept. 17, 1930, the son of Herluf and Hope (Baker) Mikkelsen, in Devils Lake, where he graduated from high school. He attended Mayville (N.D.) College and joined the military national guard. He served during the Korean War. He married
Marie in 1957. She died in 1978. He married
Doris (Desjarlais) Boyer in February 1979. He worked for the Great Northern Railway and retired from the Soo Line Railroad after 25 years. He farmed and worked for the DNR and at Lee's Store in Wannaska.
He is survived by his wife; stepchildren, Tim (Celeste) Boyer, Roseau, Randy (Barbara) Boyer, Wannaska, and Cathy (Francis) Thomas, St. John, N.D.; seven grandchildren; brothers, Bert (Barbara) and Cameron, both of Devils Lake; and a sister, Marit (Gary) Petrek, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by sons, Edward and William; and a brother, Lynn.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Bisbee, N.D.
Military rites: Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.
Gladys Lenes
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Gladys "Jean" Lenes, 77, Fosston, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston.
Gladys Jean Lucken was born Nov. 15, 1922, the daughter of Ingvald and Olga (Green) Lucken, in Heier Township, Fosston, where she attended school. She lived in Washington for a short time before returning to Fosston. She married
Jimmy Lenes on Nov. 10, 1945, in Fosston. They farmed near Fosston until the early 1970s. She also worked as a waitress at restaurants in Fosston. Jimmy Lenes died May 13, 1994.
She is survived by children, David and Larry (Carol), both of Fosston, and Shirley (Bob) Bellamy, St. Cloud, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Kingo Lutheran Church, Fosston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Kingo Lutheran cemetery.
Doris Landin
WARROAD, Minn. -- Doris Landin, 79, Warroad, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at home.
Doris Jayne Shuckhart was born Nov. 15, 1921, the daughter of Reuben and Effie (Clark) Shuckhart, in Graceville, Minn. She attended school in Graceville and Park Rapids. She graduated from high school in Hibbing, Minn. She received her masters degree from Bemidji State University and taught school for several years in Crookston, Swift and Warroad. She retired in 1984. She continued to be a substitute teacher. She married
Everett Landin on Feb. 14, 1942, in Warroad. They farmed in near Swift.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Gerald), Warroad; a son, Vernon, Warroad; seven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, V. Louise Revoir, Flint, Mich.; a brother, Dr. Vernon; and a sister-in-law, Linda Shuckhart, St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Karla "Kay" Landin.
Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Warroad.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Warroad.
