Glenn Sele
LAKE BRONSON, Minn. -- Glenn Sele, 68, Lake Bronson, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn.
Glenn Sele was born April 21, 1932, the son of Thorvald and Mildred (Vagle) Sele, in Hallock. He grew up and graduated from high school in Lake Bronson, in 1950. He worked on area farms before moving to Minneapolis, where he worked at General Mills. He married
Eileen Collins on Sept. 1, 1957, in Lake Bronson. He worked at the Lake Bronson Cenex for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Danny, Bloomington, Minn., and Brian, New Brighton, Minn.; daughters, Tammy Sele (Ray Doake), Lake Bronson, and Lori (Lowell) Swanson, New Rockford, N.D.; two grandchildren; brothers, Wally (Martha), Fridley, Minn., and Rick (Patty), Lake Bronson; and sisters, Darlene Gustafson, Bloomington, Sharon (Duane) Klegstad, Warren, Minn., and Debby Carlson, Karlstad, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Bronson.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, in the church (Hughes, Hallock).
Francis Syverson
MCINTOSH, Minn. -- Francis Syverson, 74, McIntosh, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, in First Care Hospital, Fosston, Minn.
Francis Martin Syverson was born Dec. 31, 1925, the son of Rudolph and Clara (Martinson) Syverson, in Hill River Township, Polk County, Minn., where he attended school. He worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in March 1945. He was discharged in 1946 and returned home. He attended Hanson Diesel Mechanics School in Fargo. He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator. He farmed and worked for American Crystal Sugar Co., East Grand Forks.
He is survived by sisters, Clara (Roy) Quam, Ardith Syverson, and Anola Finseth, all of McIntosh, Mary (Richard) Loing, Reynolds, N.D., and Faith (Bruce) Hanson, West Fargo, N.D.; and brothers, Norris and Rupert, both of McIntosh, and Gordon (Loretta), Dunnell, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Elaine Syverson, Doris Syverson, and Alvira Knutson; and brothers, Walter, Alan, and Edwin.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Vernes Lutheran Church, McIntosh.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Vernes Lutheran cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, McIntosh).
Luella Nordlund
CLEARBROOK, Minn. -- Luella Nordlund, 90, Clearbrook, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in Clearwater County Memorial Hospital, Bagley, Minn.
Luella Kindem was born April 4, 1910, the daughter of Lars and Julia Kindem, in Gonvick, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Walfred Nordlund on June 4, 1930, in Gonvick. They moved to a farm in Eddy Township, Clearwater County, Minn. They farmed and operated a hatchery. In 1994, she moved to Clearbrook. Walfred Nordlund died March 16, 1996.
She is survived by daughters, Lorraine (Mike) Sorenson, Clearbrook, Winnie Anderson, Minneapolis, and Pat (Harry) Toussaint, Eagan, Minn.; a son, Luverne (Helen), Clearbrook; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Clearbrook.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oak Park Lutheran cemetery, Weme, Minn. (Cease, Bagley).
Arnold Hams
KARLSTAD, Minn. -- Arnold C. Hams, 73, Portland, Ore., formerly of Karlstad, died Sept. 15, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Portland.
Arnold C. Hams was born July 18, 1927, the son of Delbert and Lois (Simmons) Hams, Karlstad. He attended country school and worked on several farms. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at the Grand Coulee Dam, in Washington and later attended Hanson Auto Mechanic School in Fargo. He worked for Wilson Bros., in Thief River Falls, for Chrysler-Plymouth, Ortonville, Minn., and at Red Lake Falls Motors as a parts man. He moved to Portland, where he worked on the docks and shipyard until his retirement.
He is survived by a sister, Eva (Llewelyn) Bakke, Minneapolis; brothers, Russell (Eunice) and Arlie, both of Red Lake Falls; and sisters-in-law, Donna Hams, Minneapolis and Lucille Hams, Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Louis, Gordon, Stanley, Elwood; and sisters, Della and Marcella.
Services: Were held in Portland.
Bernice Hartmann
WAUBUN, Minn. -- Bernice Hartmann, 73, Waubun, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at home.
Bernice Irene Hindermann was born April 8, 1927, the daughter of Harry and Clara (Hogan) Hindermann, in New Ulm, Minn., where she attended school. She moved into New Ulm, where she worked as a housekeeper. She married
Howard Hartmann on April 20, 1948, in New Ulm. They moved to Waubun in 1952.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Martin (Gayle), Walker, Minn., and Allen (Belva), Homedale, Idaho; daughters, Rose (Robert) Spaldrich, Climax, Minn., and Minnie (DuWayne) Thompson, Crookston; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Alfred, Deerwood, Minn.; and a sister, Alice Marstone, Hanska, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Molly; and a grandson.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Anderson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, Minn., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic cemetery.
Madeline Hanson
STEPHEN, Minn. -- Madeline Hanson, 94, Stephen, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Warren, Minn.
Madeline Wosick was born Oct. 18, 1905, the daughter of Walter and Verna (Stiger) Wosick, in Minto, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She attended Mayville (N.D.) Teachers College. She taught in Washville Township, near Minto. She married
Andy Hanson in 1937, in Stephen. She taught school for 15 years in several communities, including Crookston, Argyle and Stephen, Minn. Andy Hanson died in 1990. She had been a resident of Marshall Manor Good Samaritan Center since Oct. 16, 1996.
She is survived by sons, Llewellyn (Marlene), Crookston, Richard (Marilyn), Stephen, and Walter (Pat), Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Waltra Thibodo, Roosevelt, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandchild; brothers, Bill, Barney, Danny and Lou; and a sister, Tesse.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Stephen Catholic Church, Stephen.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: St. Stephen cemetery (Adamson-Austin, Stephen).
Emma Wolff
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Emma Wolff, 94, Mahnomen, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Emma Holzworth was born Nov. 12, 1905, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Klooz) Holzworth, in Woodworth, N.D., where she attended school until moving to Jamestown. She married
Jacob Wolff on Aug. 27, 1927, in Moorhead. They lived in Jamestown, where she worked at the Palace Cafe. She later worked at Anne Carlson School, Jamestown, as a nurses aide, and at the North Dakota State Hospital as a floor supervisor in the adolescent department. She also provided senior home care in her home. Jacob Wolff died in 1986. She retired in 1989. In 1990, she moved to Waubun, Minn., and to Mahnomen in 1994.
She is survived by sons, Vernon, Jamestown, Kenneth, Vero Beach, Fla., and Dewane (Christel), Fairport, N.Y.; daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Tilton, Waubun, Ellen (Thomas) Whiteley, Rochester, N.Y., and Marlys Buchholtz (Kenneth Pearson), Fargo; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin (Donna), Jamestown; and a sister, Clara Rogel, Ritzville, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a son, Pirl.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Circles of Faith-United Church of Christ, Waubun; and 3: 30 p.m. Monday, First Church of Nazarene, Jamestown.
Visitation: One hour before both services in the church.
Burial: Highland Home cemetery, Jamestown (David-Donehower, Detroit Lakes).
