Gladys Dole
SKIME, Minn. -- Gladys Dole, 88, Skime, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Sheltering Oaks Manor, Roseau, Minn.
Gladys Hanna Knuteson was born Feb. 1, 1912, the daughter of Edward and Inga (Bue) Knuteson, in Skime, where she attended school. She worked planting trees and in potato fields. She married
Albert Dole on Nov. 14, 1935, in Wannaska, Minn. They farmed and raised dairy cattle in the Skime area. She worked on the farm with her husband. Albert Dole died in 1991.
She is survived by daughters, Marilyn (Dennis) Hoyez, Blaine, Minn., and Betty Marshall, Stillwater, Minn.; sons, Dennis (Janice) and James, both of Wannaska; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Markstrom, Esther Markstrom, Wilruth Tapa, all of Roseau, Joyce Hoskin, Seattle, and Alice Peterson, Richland, Wash.; and a brother, Arvid Knuteson, Roseau.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Skime.
Visitation: 4 to 7: 30 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bethesda cemetery.
Clifford Nelson
GARY, Minn. -- Clifford S. Nelson, 84, Gary, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at home.
Clifford S. Nelson was born July 11, 1916, the son of Edward Alma (Ramberg) Nelson, in Faith, Minn., where he attended school. He moved with his family to Gary. He worked as a welder, carpenter and mechanic. He worked in Bejou, Minn., and later in a sawmill. In the mid 1960s he moved to Gary, where he operated an auto shop for 35 years.
He is survived by brothers, Erwin, Gary, and Clarence (Karen), Portland, N.D.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Alton; and a sister, Verna Berns.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Ness Lutheran Church, Gary.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.
Burial: Ness Lutheran cemetery.
Murle Lien
GREENBUSH, Minn. -- Murle K. Lien, 90, Thief River Falls, formerly of Greenbush, died Sunday Oct. 22, 2000, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Minn.
Murle K. Lien was born Sept. 3, 1910, the daughter of Amund and Karen (Lieshagen) Lien, in Greenbush, where she graduated from high school in 1929. She worked as a clerk at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Federal Office in Washington, D.C. and later transferred with the Department of Entomology and Plant Quarantine when it moved to Minneapolis. She retired in 1975. In 1976, she moved to Greenbush, and a few years ago moved to Thief River Falls.
She is survived by sisters, Hazel Carlson, Columbia, S.C., Ada Eide, Minneapolis, and Gladys Lien, Thief River Falls; and a brother, Andrew, Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gilmer.
Services: 1 p.m., Wednesday, United Free Lutheran Church, Greenbush.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: United Free Bethania cemetery, Greenbush (Gieseke, Greenbush).
Robert Lentsch
MENTOR, Minn. -- Robert Lentsch, 61, Mentor, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at home.
Robert James Lentsch was born Sept. 10, 1939, the son of John and Rose (Bourque) Lentsch, in Crookston, where he graduated from high school in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married
Marilyn Butenhoff on Nov. 25, 1961, in Elk Point, S.D. They lived in Crookston, where he worked for several area businesses. He owned and operated La Pizzeria in 1961 and the Recreation Center from 1965 to 1969. He joined the Crookston Police Force in 1969. He later worked for Driscoll Potato Co., East Grand Forks. He married
Darlene Brandner in 1973. They lived in several areas including Crookston and in Arizona. Darlene Lentsch died Sept. 17, 1995. He married
Marcella Strand on April 12, 1996, in Sisseton, S.D. They lived in Mentor and Texas.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jonathon, Roseville, Minn.; a daughter, Juliann Lentsch, Alamo, Calif.; a grandson; three stepgrandsons; a stepgreat-grandson; his mother, Crookston; brothers, Donald (Eicko), Bellevue, Neb., Joseph (Evelyn), Rio Rancho, N.M., and John (Anmarie), Crookston; and sisters, Barbara (Russel) La Chance, Crookston, Rosemarie (Timothy) Chrissis, Blue Springs, Mo., Mary Jane (Chuck) Mudge, Ramsey, Minn., and Margaret (Doug) Hagenson, Brainerd, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sons, James and Steven; his father; and a sister, Rosemary.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Faith Lutheran Church, Mentor.
Burial: Church cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, Erskine, Minn.)
Mary Jackson
PINEWOOD, Minn. -- Mary W. Jackson, 75, Pinewood, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at home.
Mary Winnifred Kusick was born Feb. 2, 1925, the daughter of John and Mary (Lorshbough) Kusick, in Dalton, Wis., where she attended school. In 1937, she moved to Madison, Wis., where she graduated from high school in 1943. She married
Bruce Jackson Sr. on Dec. 10, 1951, in Frostburg, Md. They lived in Sunbury, Ohio, from 1951 to 1956, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, from 1956 to 1968, and St. Joseph, Minn., from 1968 to 1976. They moved to Pinewood in 1976. Bruce Jackson Sr. died in 1992.
She is survived by daughters, Marilyn (James) Heltsey, Kitty Hawk, N.C., Robin (Johnnie) Howard, Benton Harbor, Mich., Carol (Robert) Dippold, Magalia, Calif., and Barbara (Mike) Jackson Philo, Bozeman, Mont.; a son, Bruce Jr., Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Leona Polson, Mechanicsburg, Penn.; and a brother, Charles, Puyallup, Wash.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday, Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Pony Lake, Minn. (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Edmund Johnson
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Edmund "Ed" Johnson, 82, Hallock, died Friday, Nov. 10, 20000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Edmund O. Johnson was born Aug. 8, 1918, the son of Wallace and Annie Johnson, in Badger, Minn., where he graduated from high school. He moved to Seattle and worked in the shipyards during World War II. He returned to Badger and bought a business. He married
Helen Anderson on June 30, 1947, in Greenbush, Minn. They bought Harstad Cleaners and moved to Hallock. He retired in 1991.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Marsha (John) Erickson, Plano, Texas and Connie Johnson, Mound, Minn.; sons, Donavon (Barb), Dublin, Ohio, and Glenn (Jean), Grand Junction, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and brothers, Russell (Violet) and Roy (Sarah), both of International Falls, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Muriel, Lillian and Erlyce; and brothers, Walter and Wilfred.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock.
Burial: Greenwood cemetery, Hallock.
Ralph Loeken
PENNINGTON, Minn. -- Ralph Loeken, 64, Pennington, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Ralph John Loeken was born March 12, 1936, in southern Minnesota. He attended school in Aitken, Minn., and Blackduck, Minn. He worked as a punch press operator for Whirlpool in the Twin Cities, and had driven truck. For the past 15 years he worked for Terry's Auto Electric, Bemidji. He married
Carol Davis. He later married
Linda Johnson.
He is survived by sons, Ralph Jr., Fridley, Minn., and Terry (Roselyn), Pennington; a daughter, Sandy (Scott) Long, Fridley; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his former wives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
