The Rev. Martin Seamon
ELBOW LAKE, Minn. -- The Rev. Martin Seamon, 70, Elbow Lake, died of cancer, Aug. 2, 2000, at home.
Martin Allen Seamon was born March 30, 1930, the son of The Rev. Glenn and Anna (Brandt) Seamon, in Columbus, Ohio, where he graduated from high school in 1946. He attended Capital University in Columbus. He graduated in 1950, with a bachelor of arts in history. He attended Capital Lutheran Seminary, completing the bachelor of divinity degree in 1954. He married
Delores Bauer on Aug. 15, 1953. On June 6, 1954, he was ordained as a minister of the American Lutheran Church. He served churches in Toledo, Ohio, Detroit and Sturgis, Mich., Grand Forks, Underwood, Washburn and Coleharbor, N.D., Herman, Norcross, and Twin Valley, Minn., and later Elbow Lake, where they lived.
He is survived by his wife; sons, The Rev. Carl (Solvejg), Kennedy, Minn., Mark (Melanie), Coon Rapids, Minn., Gregory Esq., Lake Elmo, Minn., and Jonathan (Patricia), Wausau, Wis.; daughters, Grace (Phillip) Kopitske, Woodbury, Minn., and Beth (David) Schwartz, Perham, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Rachel (The Rev. Quentin) Battiste, Norwalk, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn.
Services: Were held in Elbow Lake.
Burial: West Elbow Lake Lutheran cemetery (Erickson-Smith, Elbow Lake).
Gladys Hontvet
GREENBUSH, Minn. -- Gladys Hontvet, 87, Greenbush, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Greenbush Nursing Home, where she had lived since May.
Gladys Elvina Hontvet was born May 28, 1913, the daughter of Karl and Mary (Olsen) Hontvet, in Nereson Township, Roseau County, Minn. She graduated from high school in Badger, Minn., in 1930. She received her teachers training in East Grand Forks and Bemidji State University, earning a bachelor of science degree. She taught for 47 years in Roseau County Schools. She began teaching in Greenbush in 1956. She retired in 1978.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Etta Mooney, Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Emily Olsen Snow, Edna Olsen, Ethel Olsen, Minnie Olson Thompson and Clara Hontvet Flaten; and brothers, Conrad and Clifford.
Memorial services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Greenbush.
Burial: Nannestad cemetery at a later date. She donated her body to medical science. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church or charity of donors choice.
Nora Delage
BROOKS, Minn. -- Nora Delage, 93, Brooks, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Nora Emma Trudeau was born April 2, 1907, the daughter of Zenophile and Anne (Trepanier) Trudeau, in Gentilly, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Willie Delage on Nov. 15, 1926, in Gentilly. They lived and farmed near Brooks, retiring in 1963. They moved into Brooks in 1968. Willie Delage died in November 1986. Nora moved to Thief River Falls in 1996.
She is survived by children, Duane (Deloris), White Bear Lake, Minn., Harvey (Rose), Thief River Falls, Yvonne (Daniel) Kosh, Aurora, Minn., Madonna (Robert) Polta, Rosemount, Minn., Sheldon (Shirley), Mentor, Minn., Richard (Karen), Brooks, Mary (Gene) Christianson, Franksville, Wis., Lucille (Bob) Weiss, Oxnard, Calif., Paulette (Larry) Johnson, Rosamond, Calif., and Dianne (Lewis) Westlake, Moorhead; 41 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Bradley, Brooks.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 10: 30 Thursday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brooks.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph Church cemetery (Johnson, Red Lake Falls, Minn.).
Louis Hanson
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Louis B. Hanson, 92, Mahnomen, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Louis B. Hanson was born Dec. 30, 1907, the son of Oscar and Pauline (Ring) Hanson, in Holt, Minn., where he attended school. He moved with his family to Mahnomen in 1919. He lived and worked on the family farm until 1936. He married
Elnora Schwarzrock on Nov. 26, 1936, in Mahnomen. In 1950 they purchased and operated Our Own Hardware, Plumbing and Heating in Mahnomen. He retired in 1975. He worked as groundskeeper at the Mahnomen Country Club. Elnora Hanson died in January 2000.
He is survived by sons, Robert, Boise, Idaho, and Ronald, Mahnomen; daughters, Wanda (Keith) Hovland, Wimbledon, N.D., Joan (Ted) Lewis, Enumclaw, Wash., and Connie (Randy) Grondahl, Fargo; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thilda (Clifford) Brunsberg, Clearbrook, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; brothers, Carl, Melvin, Albert, Harold, Clarence and Alfred; and a sister, Gladys Mastrorilli.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.
Burial: Riverside Memorial Park cemetery.
Rosella Rick
ALVARADO, Minn. -- Rosella Rick, 78, Alvarado, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home.
Rosella May Strite was born Feb. 27, 1922, the daughter of Joseph and Verna (Kylander) Strite, in Powell, Wyo. She grew up and attended school in Cody, Wyo. She married
Donald Rick on April 5, 1941, in Cody. He died Aug. 25, 1997. In April 1998 she moved to Alvarado to live with her son.
She is survived by a son, Donald (Diana), Alvarado; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, William, Davenport, Wash., and Jim, Winchester, Tenn.; and a sister, Wilma Brosious, Ralston, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services: Will be in Cody.
Burial: Will be in Cody.
Dorothy Chambeau
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Dorothy Chambeau, 47, Bagley, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at home.
Dorothy Shambow was born April 1, 1953, the daughter of Marvin and Darlene (Perrault) Shambow, in Virginia, Minn. She grew up and graduated from high school in Eveleth, Minn. She attended Mesabi Community College, Virginia. She married
Shane Anderson, and they lived in Floodwood, Minn. She later married
John Angellar and they lived in Eveleth. She worked for the Range Women before moving to Bois Fort, Minn., where she started a family violence program. In 1994, she moved to Mahnomen, Minn., and worked with family violence and homeless programs for White Earth Reservation. She moved to Bagley in 1997 and was in her second year of Indian studies at Bemidji State University.
She is survived by her mother, Mahnomen; daughters, Angel (Mike) Accobee, Bagley, Nikki Anderson, Virginia, and Jesse Anderson, Lengby, Minn.; six grandchildren; brothers, Marvin, Michael, and Dennis, all of Mahnomen, Leonard (Jan), Hastings, Minn., and Gary, Eveleth; and sisters, Donna (Bill) Eck, Waubun, Minn., Barbara (Harvey) Johnson, Aurora, Minn., Lenora Finstrom, Boy River, Minn., and Margaret (Jim) Myhre, Mahnomen.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother.
Services: 1 p.m. today, at her home (Mattson, Mahnomen).
Robert Sommers
WARREN, Minn. -- Robert "Bob" Sommers, 82, Santa Ana, Calif., formerly of Warren, died Sept. 15, 2000, in Santa Ana.
Robert Warren Sommers was born Sept. 10, 1918, the son of Arthur and Inga Sommers, in Warren, where he graduated from high school in 1936. He attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, where he received a degree in refrigeration engineering. He worked for Johnson Refrigeration, Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 2, 1942 to Feb. 2, 1946. He returned to Warren, where he started a refrigeration and air conditioning business, later branching out to sales and service for Arctic Cat. After 50 years in the business he retired. He married
Margaret Miller in 1943, in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife; children, Milton (Sharon), Minnetonka, Minn., Sheila (John) Ballard, Blaine, Minn., Claudia Sommers, Newport Coast, Calif., and Dr. Linda (Marc) Sommers-Goldstein, Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Edward (Eloise), Sun City, Ariz., George (Carol), San Antonio, and Dr. Chesley (Sharon), Willmar, Minn.
Memorial and military serv ices: Will be held at Fort Snelling, St. Paul, in October. Memorials are suggested to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, the Good Samaritan Center, or the charity or organization of donors choice.
