Martin Hoyum
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Martin Hoyum, 82, Fosston, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in First Care Hospital, Fosston.
Martin Luther Hoyum was born Oct. 29, 1917, the son of the Rev. John and Anna (Aase) Hoyum, in Goodridge, Minn., where he attended school. He farmed on the family farm and later worked as a farm hand in North Dakota and Minnesota. He moved to Thief River Falls, where he worked for area farmers and Arctic Cat until his retirement. He married
Evelyn Sorenson Lindberg on Oct. 30, 1982, in Thief River Falls. They lived in Fosston.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Vonnie (Ray) Snobeck, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Lorna (Ken) Hockert, Thief River Falls, Vicki (Will) Dekkers, Fargo, and Beverlee (Dave) Mountain, Good Thunder, Minn.; a son, John (Carol), Waubun, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Holt and Lydia Owen, both of Thief River Falls, Clara (Alfred) Loer, Humbolt, Minn., Alfreda (Howard) Yearout, Gurnee, Ill., and Emma Stern, Burrton, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Bethel Assembly Church, Fosston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: Salem Lutheran cemetery, Gully, Minn. (Carlin-Hoialmen, Fosston).
Kenneth Eggen
WANNASKA, Minn. -- Kenneth O. Eggen, 72, Wannaska, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in Roseau (Minn.) Area Hospital.
Kenneth Odel Eggen was born Nov. 13, 1928, the son of Rev. Morris and Ella (Satre) Eggen, in Faith, S.D. He moved with his family to Hampden, N.D., Wannaska, Roseau and Fargo. He attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis. He married
Vivian Ingebrigtson on June 6, 1948, in Wannaska. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a control tower operator. He returned to Wannaska, where he operated a service station, television repair and sales and ran a bulldozer. He also farmed and hauled gravel. He drove school bus and coached grade-school hockey in Skime and Wannaska. He served as a lay pastor for Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Greenbush, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Roxanne (Richard) Rollefson, Altoona, Wis., Colleen (Steven) Nelson, Wannaska, and Diane (Bill) Crisp, Rye, N.H.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Ardys (Merle) Knutson, Hawley, Minn., Elaine (Norm) Rehbein, Los Altos, Calif., Ida Marie (Robert) Benson, Wannamingo, Minn., and Audrey Scherf, Palm Springs, Calif.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Morris and Carston.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Palmville cemetery.
Military Rites: Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.
Larry Trautner
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Larry Trautner, 76, Mahnomen, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in the Mahnomen Health Center.
Hilarian A. Trautner was born June 26, 1924, the son of Matt and Theresa (Opitz) Trautner, in Lake City, S.D. He moved with his father and brothers to Roy Lake, Minn. He attended school in South Dakota and in Roy Lake. He moved with his family to Chief Township, where he also attended school. He worked on the family farm and at several jobs in the area. In 1952 he worked in Alaska for a lumber company. He returned to Minnesota, where he worked for Bursch Farms, near Mahnomen. He married
Delores Shea in January 1953, in Fosston, Minn. They lived and farmed on the Bursch Farm. They retired in 1988 and moved into Mahnomen. Delores Trautner died Dec. 24, 1994. He worked at Mahnomen Implement, putting new machinery together and working on lawn equipment. He also worked at Mahnomen Country Club.
He is survived by sons, Jerry, Mark (Rose Marie), both of Mahnomen, and Jim (Debbie), Detroit Lakes, Minn.; five grandchildren; brothers, Ed (Leona), Roy Lake, and Herb, Mahnomen; and sisters, Ludwina Janisch, Mahnomen, and Felicia Darco, Fort Collins, Colo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and a 7: 30 p.m. rosary, and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, in Anderson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Michael's Catholic cemetery, Mahnomen.
Gerald Wiberg
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Gerald Wiberg, 73, Fosston, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in McIntosh (Minn.) Manor Nursing Home.
Gerald Clifton Wiberg was born Nov. 25, 1926, the son of David and Laura (Swenson) Wiberg, in Fosston, where he attended school and farmed with his father. He married
Elvie Finseth on April 8, 1947, in McIntosh. They farmed near Fosston until retiring in 1972. He also worked for Northern Sand and Gravel in Trail, Minn., and at Simplot Potato Plant in Fosston.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Dianne (Ole) Watne, Gully, Minn., Iris (Mike) Ophus, North Bend, Wash., and Elaine (Carey) Burslie, McIntosh; a son, Mark, Jackson, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Doris Erickson, Crookston, Idella Bright, New Richmond, Wis., and Arlene Watland, Mohall, N.D.
He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Oscar Erickson, Sumner Bright and Roy Watland.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Vernes Lutheran Church, McIntosh.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Vernes Lutheran cemetery.
Ruby Omdahl-Yochum
WARREN, Minn. -- Ruby Omdahl-Yochum, 91, Warren, died Aug. 21, 2000, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, where she had lived since March 1997.
Ruby Belle Swanson was born Dec. 19, 1908, the daughter of Axel and Augusta (Carlson), Swanson, in Warren, where she graduated from high school in 1926. She received her teaching certificate from the normal training school in 1927. She attended Bemidji State College. She taught school in Warren and Argyle, Minn. She married
Walter Omdahl on Oct. 16, 1935, in North Henderson, Ill. They lived in Warren. Walter Omdahl died May 14, 1950. She worked at the Warren Hospital. She married
L. William Yochum on April 23, 1982. They lived in Mesa, Ariz., and Truth or Consequences, N.M. She returned to Warren in November 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol "Suzie" (Jerry) Jevning, Warren; sons, John (Connie), Warren, and Ray, Dallas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kent; brothers, Roy, Fritz, Rueben, and Leonard; and sisters, Ruth and Marie Milne.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, Warren, Minn.
Visitation: One half hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood cemetery, Warren.
Ella Sannes
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Ella Sannes, 91, Fosston, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in First Care Nursing Home, Fosston.
Ella Short was born Oct. 29, 1908, the daughter of Gurney and Ora (Faulkner) Short. She attended school in Warren, Minn., and Crookston. She helped on the family farm. She later attended Aakers Business College, Grand Forks. She also took care of her sister, Edith, and worked for Mrs. Maves in East Grand Forks. She married
Grundy Sannes on Nov. 10, 1926. They moved to North Dakota, where she worked as a cook. They moved to Missoula, Mont., and one year later to Washington, where they picked apples and worked in the orchards. They moved to California, where she packed fruit. They moved to McIntosh, Minn., where they rented a farm and later bought a farm. Grundy Sannes died May 26, 1997.
She is survived by sons, Gene (Helen), Blaine, Minn., and Glenn, Fosston; a daughter, Delores (Robert) Lind, Battle Lake, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; sisters, Ruth and Edith; and brothers, Frank, Raymond and Harry.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, McIntosh.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, McIntosh Centennial Community Center, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Our Savior's Lutheran cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, McIntosh).
