Lorenzo Eck
TRAIL, Minn. -- Lorenzo Eck, 76, Trail, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Fosston (Minn.) First Care Hospital.
Lorenzo Byron Eck was born Aug. 2, 1924, the son of Leonard and Freda (Lee) Eck, in Trail, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947. After his discharge, he worked on ranches in Montana. He married
Opal Qualey in 1956. He worked for Minntac Mining Co. and U.S. Steel in Mountain Iron, Minn., until retiring in December 1983. He married
Idella Vennes in 1973 in South Dakota. In 1983, they returned to Trail. Idella Eck died in 1994.
He is survived by his children, Gregory (Connie), Trail, Linda (James) Fournier, Peoria, Ariz., Michael (Chris), Elgin, Minn., and James, Duluth; six grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Watne, Gonvick, Minn., Delores (Don) Strommen, Crookston, and Lois Peterson, McIntosh, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wives; and a brother, Ronald.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Sand Valley Lutheran Church, Trail.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, Oklee, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sand Valley Church cemetery.
Mayvis Lerum
GREENBUSH, Minn. -- Mayvis Lerum, 71, Greenbush, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at home.
Mayvis Joan Anderson was born Dec. 19, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Mamie (Anderson) Anderson, in Kittson County, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Greenbush, graduating from high school in 1948. She married
James Lerum on March 6, 1948, in Greenbush. They lived on a farm near Greenbush until 1956, when they moved to Minneapolis. In 1960, they moved back to the farm. James Lerum died in 1976. She worked at the Greenbush Hospital and Nursing Home as a nurse's aid.
She is survived by sons, Merle, Greenbush, and Craig (Janet), Monticello, Minn.; daughters, Colleen Lerum, Owatonna, Minn., Lynette (Kenneth) Ambroz, Savage, Minn., Donna Lerum, Burnsville, Minn., and Julie (Marvin) Bratland, Strathcona, Minn.; five grandchildren; brothers, Kennis (Lila), Greenbush, Virgil, Rogers, Minn., Dale (Kay), Badger, Minn., and Cassel (Gloria), Buffalo, Minn.; a sister, Adrian (Donald) Pietig, Spicer, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Anderson, Monticello.
She was preceded in death by sons, Douglas and Mark; and a brother, Glenee.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Greenbush.
Visitation: After 5 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Gieseke Funeral Chapel, Greenbush, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bethel Lutheran cemetery.
Arnold Seaderberg
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Arnold Seaderberg, 90, Baudette, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Lakewood Care Center, Baudette, where he had lived since January.
Arnold Elmer Seaderberg was born July 25, 1910, the son of Emily Olson, in Chicago. In 1913, he was adopted by Emily's sister, Ella (August) Seaderberg. They moved to DeKalb, Ill., until 1915, when they moved to Isanti, Minn. In 1919, they moved to a farm near Hines, Minn. He married
Lilly Lund on July 25, 1940, in Hines. After World War II, they moved to Winnebago, Minn. He worked on a farm and learned to run boilers at the Blackduck Creamery. In 1956, he went to work for the government as a heat plant operator in Grand Rapids, Minn., and then in 1958, at the Baudette Air Force Station. He retired in the early 1970s.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard (Anna), Baudette; daughters, Marie Highland, Bend, Ore., Ellamae (Daniel) Johnson, Mount Iron, Minn., and Eileen (Roger) Cordray, New Carlisle, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Lutheran Church, Baudette.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Elm Park cemetery, Baudette.
Marie Mattison
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Marie "Norma" Mattison, 77, Baudette, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at home.
Marie Cecelia Engbroten was born March 15, 1923, the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Eckel) Engbroten, in International Falls, Minn. She grew up and attended school in the Williams, Minn., area. She worked in St. Paul at Brown and Bigelow's before moving back to the Baudette area. She married
William Mattison on Aug. 4, 1945, in Grand Forks. They owned a mink ranch near Baudette for more than 25 years. William Mattison died in 1980.
She is survived by sons, Steven (Norma "Tootie"), Blaine, Minn., and David, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Evelyn Mattison, Baudette, and Julie Sorenson, Portland, Ore.; and brothers, Clifford, El Cajon, Calif., and Wesley, Solotna, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Roland; and a sister, Marian.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Wabanica Lutheran Church, Baudette.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Baudette.
Burial: Wabanica cemetery.
Betty Olson
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Betty Olson, 90, Baudette, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Lakewood Care Center, Baudette, where she had lived since 1990.
Betty Amanda Olson was born Dec. 9, 1909, the daughter of Hjalmer and Kristina (Aslund) Olson, in Farila-Helsingland, Sweden. They came to the United States and lived near Pitt, Minn., where she attended school. After the death of her father in 1941, she and her mother moved to Baudette.
She is survived by sisters, Hilda Larson, Roseville, Minn., and Elsie Haugen, Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Olson, Ellen Ulstrom and Dena Johnson; and brothers, Olaf and two infants.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Pitt Community Church.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Riverside cemetery, Pitt (Helgeson, Baudette).
Deloris Gardner
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Deloris Gardner, 44, Bagley, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident near Mahnomen, Minn.
Deloris Ruby Ames was born March 9, 1956, the daughter of Harry and Marjorie (Nordley) Ames, in Redding, Calif. She graduated from high school in Bagley in 1974. She worked at the Clearwater County Nursing Service for five years. She married
Thomas Gardner on Oct. 28, 1989.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Staskivige, Bagley; daughters, Jodi Bauer, Erskine, Minn., Domine Olson, Japan, and Desirae Staskivige, Bagley; a stepdaughter, Ginger Gardner, Bagley; eight grandchildren; her parents, Bagley; sisters, Louise Baumgartner, Bemidji, Jane Ronning, Bagley, and Carol Wheeler, Fosston, Minn.; and a brother, Ken, Bagley.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley.
Carlos Neeland
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Carlos Neeland, 21, Mahnomen, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, as the result of an auto accident near Mahnomen.
Carlos Neeland was born July 15, 1979, the son of Kim Neeland, in St. Paul. He attended schools in Bagley and Cass Lake, Minn. He attended BICAP Youth Building Training to be a carpenter. He worked for White Earth Housing and then for Goodwin Construction in Bagley.
He is survived by his mother, Fargo; and brothers, Michael, Mahnomen, and Armondo, Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Freanette Neeland.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, Rice Lake, Minn.
Visitation: Began Monday and will continue until the time of services at the church.
Burial: St. Phillip's Episcopal cemetery, Rice Lake (Cease, Bagley).
