Mabel Anderson
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Mabel Anderson, 79, Richfield, Minn., formerly of Fosston, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in McIntosh (Minn.) Manor Nursing Home.
Mabel Bertina Anderson was born Feb. 9, 1921, the daughter of Andrew and Ingeborg (Rodland) Anderson, in Columbia Township, Fosston, where she attended school. She worked at several places in the Fosston area before joining the U.S. Army Women's Auxiliary Corps in March 1944. She was discharged in December 1945. She worked for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis. She retired in 1980.
She is survived by sisters, Thorhild Hanson, Denver, N.C., Norma Brown, Crookston, Esther Carlson, Richmond, Va., and Elsie (Roland) Gullekson, Fertile, Minn.; and brothers, Ingvald (Ione), Bagley, Robert (Marilyn) and Norman, both of Fosston, and Erling, Rochester, Minn.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and Alf; and a sister, Agnes Potter.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home Chapel, Fosston.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral home.
Burial: St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Bagley, Minn.
Lorraine Gigler
GARY, Minn. -- Lorraine Gigler, 79, Coon Rapids, Minn., formerly of Gary, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale, Minn.
Lorraine Ardith Larson was born Sept. 22, 1921, the daughter of Elmer and Olga (Benson) Larson, in Gary, where she attended school. She married
Robert Gigler on March 1, 1940, in Ada. They lived and farmed near Ada until 1953, when they moved into Ada. In 1961, they lived in Moorhead. From 1961 to 1966, they moved to Seattle, and Salinas, Calif. They returned to Coon Rapids, Minn. She worked as a lab tech with Land O'Lakes. She retired in 1986. She has lived in the Maranatha Care Center, Brooklyn Center, Minn.
She is survived by her husband, Coon Rapids; sons, Byron (Cindy), Brooklyn Park, Dwight (Betty), Coon Rapids, and Jeffrey (Jan), Bangkok, Thailand; a son-in-law, James Schultz, Palo Alto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Janet), Twin Valley, Minn.; and a sister, Donna (Clif) Wasfaret, Twin Valley.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Ada.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Ada Municipal cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).
Helen Walters
BECIDA, Minn. -- Helen Walters, 79, Becida, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at home.
Helen Josephine Mathouser was born June 3, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Sporel) Mathouser, in Omaha, Neb., where she graduated from high school. She married
Ernest Walters Sr. on Aug. 8, 1942, in Papilion, Neb. In May 1985, she moved to the Becida area.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Ernest "Bud" Jr. (Barbara) and Donald (Patricia), both of Becida; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mayme (Vern) Teply, Omaha.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Fern Township cemetery, Becida.
Thomas Lee
TWIN VALLEY, Minn. -- Thomas Lee, 58, Twin Valley, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Bridges Medical Services, Ada, Minn.
Thomas Lee was born May 1, 1942, the son of Theodore and Clara (Olson) Lee, in Gary, Minn., where he attended school. He worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. in Crookston and was a farm laborer in the Gary area. He moved to Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home, Twin Valley, in the late 1990's.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carold; and a sister, Jeanette Halland.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Ness Lutheran Church, Gary.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.
Burial: Ness Lutheran cemetery.
Marvin Johnson
HALMA, Minn. -- Marvin Johnson, 71, Halma, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Health Care Center, Hallock, Minn.
Marvin Oliver Johnson was born April 14, 1929, the son of Henry and Esther (Anderson) Johnson, in Halma. He graduated from high school in Karlstad, Minn., in 1947. He served with the U.S. Army in Guam. He graduated from Beck Radio School in Minneapolis. He married
Doris Grindberg on Oct. 5, 1951, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis, where he worked for the S & M Co. in district sales. They moved to Watertown, S.D., where he was in sales until 1967, when he returned to Halma to work with his father in the gravel business.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Lola (Loren) Germundson, Karlstad; his stepmother, Marion Johnson, Karlstad; stepbrothers, Dean (Cheryl) McNatton, Bismarck, and Duane McNatton, St. Paul; and a stepsister, Bonnie Carlson, Dilworth, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynden.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Halma.
Visitation: After 6 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Collins Funeral Home Chapel, Karlstad, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Eidsvold Church cemetery.

Betty Fosness
LEONARD, Minn. -- Betty Fosness, 71, Leonard, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley, Minn., where she had lived since November.
Betty Herdt was born Sept. 24, 1929, the daughter of Walter and Ida (Salseg) Herdt, in Eckman, N.D. She attended school in Eckman and Glenburn, N.D. She married
Harold Fosness on June 10, 1947, in Barton, N.D. They lived in Barton until 1982, when they moved to Bagley. They moved to Grand Forks in 1988 and to Leonard, Minn., in 1992.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Gayle (Carol), Sarasota, Fla., and Bruce (Beth Schuett), Mansfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; sisters, Beverly (Joe) Merck, Bagley, Helen (George) Schiele and Ardella Newgard, both of Minot, Joyce Fosness, Butte, Mont., Hazel VanVorst, Watertown, Minn., Sally (Lee) Poindexter, in Florida, and Frances (Bill) Secord, Delavan, Wis.; and brothers, Howard, Gillette, Wyo., Raymond (Carol), Bloomington, Minn., Robert (Della), St. John's, N.D., Harold, Detroit Lakes, N.D., and Kenneth (Frances), Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by a son, Earl; and a brother, Walter.
