Dwight Rector
WAUBUN, Minn. -- Dwight Rector, 69, Waubun, formerly of Ada, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at home.
Dwight Gilge Rector was born Jan. 28, 1931, the son of Charles and Myrtle (Gilge) Rector, in Ada, where he graduated from high school in 1950.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and was discharged in 1952. He returned to Ada, where he worked for the Norman County Highway Department.
He married
Simone Robin in Las Vegas.
He operated Rector's Cafe with his father until 1972.
In 1966, he began flying a crop sprayer for Dr. Marvin Hammarback, Hendrum, Minn., and Tom Gunderson, Twin Valley, Minn.
He purchased the Hammarback crop-spraying business in 1966.
He owned and operated Rector Flying Services until 1988. He worked for Ada Decorating Services from 1988 to 1998.
They moved to White Earth, Minn., in 1996.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Calvin (Roseanne); a daughter, Margaret (Robert) Loe; four grandchildren; his mother; brothers, Keith, Waubun, and David, Pembina, N.D.; and a sister, Sharon (Charles) Skalsky, Stockton, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Faith United Church, Ada.
Burial: Ada Municipal cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).
Hannah Abrahamson
WANNASKA, Minn. -- Hannah Abrahamson, 91, Wannaska, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in Sheltering Oaks Manor, Roseau, Minn.
Hannah Njaa was born Oct. 19, 1909, the daughter of Ole Johan and Anna Njaa in Golden Valley Township, where she attended school.
She received training at the Crookston A.C.
She married
Peder Abrahamson on July 2, 1938.
She worked in the Roseau Children's Home.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Molly), Albany, Minn., and James, Blaine, Minn.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna (Thoralf) Melby, Roseau; a daughter-in-law, Thora (Stuart) Halvorson, Grand Forks; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Betty.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Trygve; a sister Signe; brothers, Theodore, James and Thor; and a daughter-in-law, Donna.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6: 30 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Golden Valley cemetery.
Clara Mae Fichter
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Clara Mae Fichter, 79, Roseau, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Roseau Area Hospital.
Clara Mae Nelson was born Nov. 17, 1921, the daughter of William and Leah (Miller) Nelson, in Langdon, N.D.
She grew up in Henning, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1938.
She attended Business College in Fergus Falls, Minn.
She worked at the courthouse in Ottertail County before moving to Minneapolis in 1940 and working as a clerk in a health food store.
She married
Raymond Fichter on Sept. 13, 1942, in Henning.
In 1942, they moved to the Fichter farm in Malung Township, where they farmed.
In 1956, they moved to Roseau, where they owned and operated a farm supply business.
In 1965, they moved to Brea, Calif., where they owned and operated a grocery store.
Raymond Fichter died in 1979. In 1980, she moved back to Roseau.
She worked at Mattson Pharmacy and Gift Store for 20 years.
She is survived by sons, Gene, Roseau, and Pete, LaHabra, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gary; a brother, Maurice Nelson; and a sister, Ferne Kinzel.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Moe Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Hope cemetery, Roseau.
Randall Baron
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Randall "Randy" Baron, 45, Baudette, died Monday Aug. 25, 2000, in Vail (Colo.) Valley Medical Center.
Randall Willis Baron was born April 11, 1955, the son of Donald and Yvonne (Britton) Baron, in Mountain Home, Idaho.
He moved with his family to McClusky, N.D.
In 1967, they moved to Gudrid Township, Lake of the Woods County, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1973.
He worked at the family grocery store, Don's Red Owl.
He married
Susan Sindelir on Feb. 5, 1977, Baudette.
In 1983, he became operator of the store.
In 1985, with his partner, Ralph Wilson, they changed the name to Ralph and Randy's Supermarket.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Bryan and Danny; a daughter, Deanna, all living at home; his father, Baudette; and a brother, Russell (Benita), Baudette.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and grandparents.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Lutheran Church, Baudette.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Baudette, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Clementson cemetery, Baudette.
Lois Vezina
GOODRIDGE, Minn. -- Lois Vezina, 71, Goodridge, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Lois Ann Frazer was born Oct. 3, 1929, the daughter of Harvey and Amelia (Carpenter) Frazer, in Cass Lake, Minn., where she attended school. She was a waitress at the Bee Hive Cafe in Cass Lake.
She married
Jesse Vezina on Oct. 11, 1947, in Cass Lake.
They lived in Cass Lake and Hibbing, Minn. In 1954, they moved to Goodridge, where they opened the Vezina Cafe.
They retired in 1970.
Jesse Vezina died July 24, 1995.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia Schwartz, Cloquet, Minn., Marilyn (Tim) Knutson, Roseau, Minn., and Pam (Irvin) Hamm, Goodridge; daughter-in-law, Carole Vezina-Sanders, East Grand Forks; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey (Bonnie), James (Karen) and Charles, all of Cass Lake, Eugene (Avis), Goodridge, Earl (Diane), Thief River Falls, Carl (Kathy), Onigum, Minn., and Robert and Michael (Judy), both of Minneapolis; and sisters, Myrtle Woods, Oklee, Minn., Denice Croaker, Shirley Van Dyke, Joyce (Daniel) Morris, and Sandra "Sandy" Ryan, all of Cass Lake; Norma McMurran, Walker, Minn., and Beverly (Virgil) Wright, Columbia Falls, Mont.
She was preceded in death by a son, David; a granddaughter; and a brother, Eugene.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Anne's Catholic Church, Goodridge.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: 3 p.m. Thursday, Pine Grove cemetery, Cass Lake.
