Florence Vogelpohl, 83 of 525 South State Street New Ulm, died Friday morning Sept. 29, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Private family burial will be held at a later date in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Victor of New Ulm; daughters, Marsha Jorgensen and her husband Lauritz of Lakeville, Kay Barber of Minneapolis; a son, Dr. Thomas Vogelpohl and his wife Alison of St. Paul; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Delores Ginkel and her husband Willard of Maplewood, Lenore Eyrich of New Ulm; brothers-in-law, Ralph Vogelpohl and Harley Vogelpohl of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Deloris Johnson of California; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Jerome Johnson.
Florence Myrtle Johnson, the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Norsby) Johnson, was born Jan. 15, 1917 in Hanska, where she spent her youth and attended Hanska High School. Following graduation, she attended beauty school in Minneapolis and soon after worked at various beauty shops in the New Ulm area. She later owned and operated Florence's Beauty Shop in New Ulm.
She married Victor Vogelpohl Dec. 9, 1949 in New Ulm. She worked part-time for Vogelpohl's Leather and Gift Shop in New Ulm for several years. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and she and her husband served as church representatives to the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. She also served on the former Union Hospital Auxiliary and was active with the Quilting Cousins.

Vonnice C. Geib, 72, of Arlington, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the Arlington Community Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Arlington, with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Monday at the Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Erwin Geib of Arlington; a daughter Gweneth and husband Richard Worner of St. Michael; sons, Duane and his wife Patty Geib,and son Steven and his wife Janet Geib, both of Arlington; sisters Ardice Ferch of Portland, Ore. and Marliyn and Frank Clarke of Langehorne, Penn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elaine Hiller.
She was born May 15, 1928 in Minneapolis to Alvin and Emma (Schwartz) Moss. She graduated from Wayzata High School in 1946. She worked in Minneapolis for a number of years. She married Erwin Geib, Jr. on Jan. 19, 1952 at Wayzata. She belonged to Home Extension and Evening Circle.

Ann M. Lohman, 73, of Tucson, Ariz., (formerly of New Ulm), died Friday, September 29, 2000 at the Odyssey Hospice in Tucson.
Services are at 3 p.m. today at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson, with burial in the church's columnburium. A memorial service will be held in New Ulm at a later date. Local arrangements are pending. Evergreen Mortuary in Tucson is in charge of arrangements.
She survived by her husband Robert; a sister Marian Roban of Tucson, AZ; sons, David and wife Pat Lohman of Forest City, Iowa; Gary and wife Diane Lohman, Jeffrey and wife Faye Lohman all of Indian Wells, CA; Guy and wife Jane Lohman of Webster, WI; Christopher and wife Tarri Lohman of Oregon, MO; Tod and wife Jean Lohman of New Ulm, MN; and daughter Marianne and husband Thomas Snowden of Charleston, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Harrison McKusick.
She was born Nov. 1, 1929 in Stillwater. She married Robert Lohman on Aug. 7, 1944. In 1960 they moved to New Ulm where they lived until Robert's retirement in 1984. After Robert's retirement they lived at a lake home in northern Minnesota in the spring and summer, and spent winters in Arizona. In 1993 they made Tucson their permanent home.
Ann was an award winning quilter and a quilting instructor. She was a member of Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson. Memorials are preferred to Odyssey Hospice, 1730 East River Road, Suite 107, Tucson, AZ 85718.

Leo J. Beranek, 66, of Naperville, Ill., and formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at North Western Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 3- 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Naperville, Ill.; daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia Cherrey of Pasadena, Calif., Catherine and Glenn Rasmussen, Corrine Beranek, all of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Darlene Beranek of Courtland, Thomas and Jane Beranek, Charles and Karen Beranek, James and Mary Beranek, all of New Ulm, and Bill Beranek and special friend Kelly of Nicollet; 21 grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Florian Dittrich of New Ulm, Rita and Jim Gleisner of Gibbon; and brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Beranek of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Beranek; and grandsons, Jeffery and Dennis Beranek.
He was born May 2, 1934, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph J. Jr. and Gertrude (Vetter) Beranek. He married Carol Schaeffler on Aug. 30, 1952, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They farmed in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, until 1992. He served as the high secretary/treasurer of the Catholic Order of Foresters from 1992 to present. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville where he served as a eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity where he served as an usher. He was elected as a trustee on the high court and served for eight years before being elected as high secretary/treasurer. Previously he was president of the Minnesota Fraternal Congress, trustee and treasurer of the Minnesota COF State Court. For many years he served as Chief Ranger of the St. John's Court No. 698. He was a board member of the Loretto Hospital, secretary of the Searles-Courtland Shipping Association, St, Joseph's Catholic Aid Council, St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the Sigel Town Boys.

Dennis Boyum, 63, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax with burial in the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax with full military rites by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax., and continues one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Boyum of Fairfax; daughters, Carmin Van Epps of Fairfax; Natalie and husband Bryan Peichel of Prior Lake; five grandchildren; mother-in-law, Helen Prax of Fairfax; sisters, Lavonne Mickelson of Brooklyn Center, Doris and husband Wes Prax of Fairfax, brother-in-law, Glen Johnson of Forest Lake; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eileen Johnson; father-in-law, Wenzel Prax; brother-in-law Ken Mickelson.
He was born May 3, 1937, in Franklin to Clarence and Mathilda (Korsmo) Boyum. He worked for different farmers as a hired hand until May 1957 when he entered the United States Army. He took his basic training at Ft. Riley, Kansas and went to Baumholder, Germany, where he served 18 months as an artillery survey computer. He was honorably discharged at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. in May of 1959. He returned to Fairfax and worked at the Fairfax Creamery for one year. He went to Minneapolis and worked at the Automobile Service Company for 13 years. He married Bernadette Prax on Oct. 16, 1965, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. They lived in Minneapolis and Minnetonka, where worked for Automobile Service Company. In 1973, they returned to Fairfax and purchased a clothing store. They owned and operated Boyum's Clothing Store on Main Street in Fairfax. In 1988, he returned to Automobile Service Company in St. Louis Park and was currently employed there. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Fairfax American Legion.

Marvin Erdman, 73, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with burial at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m today at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato and will continue one hour prior to the time of service at the church.
He is survived by sons, James and wife Julie Erdman, John and wife Irene Erdman, all of Mankato, Joel Erdman and his fiance Tara Schrupp of Plymouth, Paul Erdman and his fiance Diane Wilson of Minnetonka; daughters: Ruth and husband Ron Schaefer of New Ulm, Kristine Erdman and finance Steve Wuorinen of St. Paul; sister Laura Tuberg of Lake Crystal; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Hulda, Helen, Amanda, Louise and Sylvia; and brothers: Henry, August, Elmer, Melvin and Rueben.
He was born March 16, 1927, in Holloway to August and Anna (Stolt) Erdman. He attended country school in Swift County. On June 7, 1958, he married Marlys Pearson in Mankato. He worked at Hubbard Milling Company doing trucking and maintenance. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal and Our Savior Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He attended services at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato.

Janet Ann Bauer, 39, of Rochester, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rochester, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Rochester.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband John; children, Matthew and Michael; father, Lee and his wife Donna of Olivia; sister, Deanna Shanahan and husband John of Mapleton; and brothers, Dick and wife Marlene of Hector, Bob and wife Lorie of Harrisburg, Penn., Jim and wife Laurie of Circle Pines, and Tom and wife Gail of Fargo, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparents; and one brother.
She was born Nov. 9, 1960, in Redwood Falls, to Lee and Betty (Ranzinger) Hoffman. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1979 and the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, in 1984. She received her master's degree in counseling at Winona State University in 1995. She worked in youth ministry at a Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, and St. Pius Catholic Church, Rochester. She worked as a day treatment counselor at Zumbro Valley Mental Center. She married John Bauer on June 27, 1992, in Rochester.

Alvina Bruss, 89, of Marshall, formerly of Wood Lake and Cottonwood, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at English Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home, Echo, and will continue Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by children, Marilyn West of Eau Claire, Wisc., Beverly Conlin and husband Mick of Seattle, Wash., Julianne McGuire of Arden Hills, and Orlin Bruss and wife Susan of Marshall; son-in-law, Ralph Lick and wife Kathy of Mora; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Vogt of Moundsview, and Minnie Johannsen of Fairmont; sister-in-law Ruby Behr of Hardwick; and brother-in-law, Arnold Schmidt of Granite Falls.
She was preceded in death her parents; husband, Raymond; son, DelRay; daughter, LaVonne Lick; son-in-law, William West; brothers, Alfred and Paul; sister, Elsie Schmidt; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was born Nov. 7, 1910, in Sibley Township, Sibley County, to Gottfried and Maria (Delger) Behr. She attended Wood Lake Public Schools. On Nov. 25, 1934, she married Raymond C. Bruss in Wood Lake. They farmed near Wood Lake until 1974, when they retired and moved to Cottonwood. After Raymond died in 1996, she moved to Marshall, where she lived until July 2000, when she entered Sunwood Good Samaritan Center, Redwood Falls. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Posen Township, and English Lutheran Church, Cottonwood.

Lawrence John Schaefer, 88, of Chester, Mont. and formerly of Nicollet died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, Mont., with burial in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm handled local notification.
He is survived by his wife, Amelia Schaefer of Chester, children, Dr. Marlin Schaefer of Punta Gorda, Fla., Karen Buck of Denver, Colo., Frances Kammerzell of Chester, Mont., Paul Schaefer of Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Marcus Schaefer of Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren; brothers, Henry Schaefer and James Schaefer both of New Ulm, and the Rev. Roman Schaefer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Esther Koss of Hopkins, Aurelia Boettger of New Ulm and Sister Sharon Schaefer PHJC of Donaldson, Ind..; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Donald and Gerald Schaefer; brothers, Herbert and Leo Schaefer; and sister, Amelia Luepke.
He was born April 20, 1912c in Nicollet to Leo and Amelia (Bushard) Schaefer. He went to Montana in 1940 to manage the Gamble Store in Browning. He married Amelia Peters on June 15, 1942, in Columbia Falls, Mont. They owned and operated the Gamble Store in Chester, Mont. for 50 years. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, and a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus and he had served as a former Grand Knight.

Rose Peterson, 76, of Franklin, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Franklin, with burial in Central Lutheran Cemetery, rural Franklin.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

John Neal, 74, of Springfield, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Springfield, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. There will be a service by Fides Masonic Lodge at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by sister Rose Miller of Benson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; sister Violet Suess; and brother Bennie.
He was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Medina Township, Ill., to Elmer and Nellie (Forsyth) Neal. He moved with his family to Sleepy Eye as a child. Following graduation from high school. He joined the Navy in Jan. 1944. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, the European-Middle Eastern-African Theatre and in the Philippines. After his discharge in 1947, he returned to Sleepy Eye. He married Elizabeth Kerr on Aug. 21, 1950 in Springfield. The couple moved to Springfield, where he worked at Ochs Brick and Tile until his retirement. He grew sod and sold it to area residents. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Springfield, Sherman-Bohn VFW Post 5771, Morgan, and Fides Masonic Lodge 246, Sanborn.

Rose (Jensen) Peterson, 76, of Franklin died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Franklin, with burial in Central Lutheran Cemetery, rural Franklin.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
She is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Ardell Jensen of Redwood Falls, Joe and Lois Jensen of New Hope; brothers-in-law, Louis Rau of Fridley, Francis Grejtak of rural Franklin; sister-in-law, Irene Jensen of Braham; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester in 1992; brothers, Alvin and Edward Jensen; infant brother, Robert; sisters, Mary "Vi" Grejtak and June Rau; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Birch Coulee Township, Renville County, to William H. and Margaret Ellen (Revier) Jensen. She attended District 20 country school. She graduated from Morton High School in 1943. She married Lester Peterson on Oct. 25, 1961, at Central Lutheran Church, rural Franklin. They farmed in rural Franklin until he died in 1992. She then moved into the Centennial Apartments in Franklin in 1993. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Ladies Prayer Group and the Birch Coulee Birthday Club.

Mildred Pistulka, 61, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday and a St. Anne's C.C.W. rosary at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

She is survived by her husband John; son, Steven of Springfield; sisters, Mary Ann and husband Ralph Hackert of Sturgis, S.D., Virginia Asbury of Wichita Falls, Texas, Suzie Sturges of Worthington, and Sally Sturges of Sioux City, Iowa; and brothers, Tom and wife Mitzi Sturges of Carson City, Nev., and Bill Sturges of Woodstock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister.
She was born July 12, 1939, in Scandia Township, Murray County, to Harrison and Laura (Hollmer) Sturges. She attended school in Chandler, then moved with her family to Ruthton, where she graduated from high school in 1957. From 1957-1968 she was a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame of the Mankato Province. She attended the Mankato campus of Mount Mary College of Milwaukee, and Mankato State University. She taught school in Albertville, St. Paul, and other schools in Southwest Minnesota. After leaving the order, she taught at St. Michael's School, Morgan, and St. Gabriel's School, Fulda. She married John Pistulka on Aug. 8, 1970, in Woodstock. They lived in Morgan and Springfield. She operated a full-time cleaning service in Springfield. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield.

Robert 'Bob' Romberg, 56, of Sleepy Eye died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, andcontinues one hour before services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Romberg of Sleepy Eye; son, Grant Romberg and friend, Heather Reddemann of Sleepy Eye; mother, Dorothy Romberg of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Glenn and wife Marion Romberg, of Sleepy Eye, Charles Romberg and wife Sally, of Sleepy Eye; sister, Jane Aukrust and husband Richard, of Hanska.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, and an infant sister.
He was born July 1, 1944, in Sleepy Eye to Dorothy (Marti) Romberg. He attended District 30 country school near Sleepy Eye and St. John's Lutheran School in Sleepy Eye. He attended high school at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm and Immanuel Lutheran High School and college in Mankato. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served during the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1966. After military service, he lived in Sleepy Eye and worked at Del Monte. He later started Romberg Repair and hauled cattle for the Sleepy Eye Auction Market. He married Karen Haslip on Sept. 29, 1978, in rural New Ulm. He worked at Case Sales & Service and Forster Electric. He and Greg Baulick started Countryside Electric. He also farmed near Sleepy Eye. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, where he was in the choir and on the church council. He was a member of Prairieland Flywheelers Two Cylinder Club and a past member of the Sleepy Eye Saddle Club.

Sylvester 'Sal' Rathman, 88 of St. James, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James' Catholic Church in St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his children, Gene and wife Lucille of Tallahasee, Fla., Phyllis and husband Francis Wagner of Ormsby, Raymond and wife Janette, Jim and wife Patricia, Larry and wife Marian, Doug and wife Kathy, all of St. James, Don and wife Jeannie of Tulsa, Okla., Dick and wife Fay of Nisswa, Sal Jr. and wife Berdell of St. James, Paula and husband Conrad DeJong of Stewartville, and Marlene and husband Richard Fastenau of St. James; 38 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola and husband Roy Hanson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; sons, David, John and Edward; daughter, Christine; three brothers; one sister; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Rathman.
He was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Comfrey to Frank and Minnie (Schroepfer) Rathman. At the age of 12 Sal bought his first accordion from Sears-Roebuck, which was the beginning of his musical career. During and following high school he played his concertina in several bands, including the Sal Masters, a dance band he formed in the 1940s.
He married Marjorie Schiller on May 3, 1937, in the St. James Catholic Church Rectory. They lived in Darfur for a short time until moving to St. James. He was employed at Scherr-Tumico for 34 years, serving in various positions as engineer, supervisor and also as plant superintendent. He retired in 1977. He resumed his musical career in 1971, playing on weekends with the Fezz Fritsche Band. He was a long-time member of St. James Catholic Church.

Florence Flitter, 77, of Madelia, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
She is survived by her husband Hartwin; sons, Gerald and wife Carol of Madelia, and Ralph of St. Peter; daughter-in-law Angie Flitter of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Floyd Peterson; brothers, Howard and Richard; sister Verna; and great-grandson Jacob.
She was born July 17, 1923, in Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County, to Lewis and Flora (Rhoads) Wilde. She grew up in Ceresco Township and attended Buckman School and Madelia High School, graduating in 1941. She married Hartwin Flitter on June 5, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church-Fieldon Parsonage. They farmed in rural Madelia until moving to town in 1986. She was a homemaker and day care provider. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she did many volunteer services.
