Harry Louis Flackmeier

Harry Louis Flackmeier of Carmel Valley, California was born on March 18, 1914 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Harry Flachmeier and Ruby Gregory Flachmeier and passed away on March 20, 2004 at Carmel Valley, California at the age of 90 years 2 days.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ross Flachmeier.

He has been a resident of California for many years and was a retired architect.

Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Harry Louis Flackmeier was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Lea cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri.

Interment was in the Lea cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.

Cecil Earl Hawthorne

Cecil Earl Hawthorne was born Thursday November 6, 1924, at Piggott, Arkansas, a son of the late Milton and Pansy (Lowery) Hawthorne.

He entered eternal rest Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 22 days.

On May 25, 1947, Cecil was united in marriage to Emma Jean Wright. They enjoyed over 40 years together before Emma's death in 1987.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Clemons.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are four daughters, Linda Hawthorne of Steelville, Missouri, Donna Hawthorne of Bridgeton, Missouri, Audrey Simpson and husband Earnie of Imperial, Missouri, and Amy Asher and husband Randy of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers, Leroy Hawthorne and wife Jean of California, and Douglas Hawthorne of Missouri.

Six grandchildren, Eric Simpson, Jessica Conaway and husband Scott, Joshua Asher and wife Dee, Jacob Asher, Alex and Spencer Parkinson; three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Cecil Earl Hawthorne lay in state from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday March 30, 2004, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.

Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Randy Asher, Josh Asher, Scott Conaway, Jacob Asher, Earnie Simpson, Eric Simpson and Louie Dicus.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Paul Theodore Smith

Paul Theodore Smith was born Thursday, March 6, 1930 at St. Louis, Missouri, a son to the late William G. Smith and Dorothy M. (Durkop) Smith. Paul entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Cuba Manor at the age of 74 years and 21 days.

Paul was united in marriage to Oma Lea Green on June 12, 1954 in Steelville, Missouri. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. Paul and Oma enjoyed over 49 years of marriage at the time of his passing.

Paul served his country in the United States Army. He entered active duty on October 4, 1951, serving in Korea. Paul was honorably discharged on July 4, 1953. While serving his country, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, and the United Nations Service Medal. Paul was later self-employed as a farmer. He was often described as a hard working man, kind, loving, and a wonderful friend.

Paul enjoyed playing horseshoes and would often spend Sunday afternoons at a nearby country store "pitching horseshoes," chewing tobacco or an occasional cigar, and enjoying the camaraderie.

In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Smith; son-in-law Doyle Neff; father and mother-in-law John and Mabel Green; brothers and sisters-in-law Roselean Smith, Linda Green, John Green Jr. and wife Shirley, Kenneth Green, and Charles Green.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Oma Lea Smith of the home; two loving sons, Mike Smith and wife Melinda of Steelville, Missouri and Steve Smith of Cherryville, Missouri; two loving daughters, Rita Neff of Ozark, Missouri and Jeanie Smith and husband Kevin of Steelville, Missouri.

One brother, Kenneth Smith of St. James, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie and Glen Martin, Barbara and Leroy Tidwell, Harold and Linda Green all of Cherryville, Missouri, Doris Green, Jimmie Green, Joe and Glenda Green all of Davisville, Missouri, Curtis and Mary Green of St. Charles, Missouri.

Five grandchildren, Christian Neff and wife Erica of Oak Grove, Missouri, Timothy Neff of Ozark, Missouri, Crystal Smith of O'Fallon, Missouri, Ashlee and Matt Smith of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends. Paul will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Paul Theodore Smith lay in state 4-8 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating.

Musical selections were provided by Carol Coleman accompanied by Shirley Brown.

Committal prayers and interment were in the First Baptist Church cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Christian Neff, Timothy Neff, Matt Smith, Kevin Green, Stanley Green and Harold Green.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Goldie Wilkinson

Goldie Wilkinson, of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of DeSoto, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Potosi, Missouri.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born May 4, 1915 in Washington County, Missouri, to William T. and Amy Knott Moses.

She was married to Dwight Wilkinson who preceded her in death. She worked in the shoe industry as a production worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, Margie, Agnes, Pauline, Florence, Virgil and Joe and one grandson Randy Wilkinson.

She is survived by two sons, "Bounie" and Gloria Wilkinson, of DeSoto, Missouri and Dewain and Elsie Wilkinson also of DeSoto, Missouri.

She had four grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Dietrich-Mothershead Chapel.

Officiating was Rev. James Hoffman. Burial was in the Shoal Creek cemetery near Steelville, Missouri.

Leonard Marion Licklider

Leonard Marion Licklider of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 2, 1914 at Red Bird, Missouri to the union of Adolphia Licklider and Alice Jane Strain Licklider and passed away on August 19, 2004 at Steelville, Missouri at the age of 89 years 10 months and 17 days.

On June 18, 1938 Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Peeters at St. Louis, Missouri. One son, Ronald, and three daughters, Lori, Louise and Shirley, were born to this union. Leonard and Alice had been happily married for 66 years.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Barney, Dayton, Clarence and Irvin Licklider and four sisters, Amanda Woodruff, Jane Bode, Celia Bode and Corey Licklider.

Leonard was a lifetime resident of Crawford County. He was a member of Trinity Chapel, Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312, Republican Club, Cuba Rough Riders and a representative of Farm Bureau for Crawford County.

Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife Alice Licklider; children Lori Graves and husband Joe, Louise Gilbert, Shirley Schmidt and husband Peter and Ronald Licklider and wife Vicki; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Leonard was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.

Leonard Marion Licklider was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri were Masonic services were held on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 7 p.m. by the Cuba Masonic Lodge No. 312.

Funeral services were held at the Britton Chapel on Saturday, August 22, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Licklider cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.

Dema Edna Irene Roberts

Dema Edna Irene Roberts was born Thursday July 11, 1918, at Viburnum, Missouri, a daughter of the late George Medley and Mary Rayburn Medley.

She entered eternal rest, Thursday August 19, 2004, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 8 days.

On February 24, 1935, Dema was united in marriage to Willard Alexander Roberts, son of the late Harvey and Ida Roberts. One daughter, Rosella Mae, was born to this union. They enjoyed over fifty years together, before his death, November 17, 1985.

In addition to Willard and her parents, Dema was preceded in death by her five sisters, Mildred and husband Bradford Roberts, Leona and husband Earnest Hedrick, Dorothy and husband Matt Richardson, Eva and husband Clarence Turner. Margie and husband Emmett Coplin and sister-in-law, Pearl Grayson.

Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Rosella of the home in Steelville, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered by her friendly greeting to everyone, she loved people. God blessed her with a gift of love for children and they in return loved her. She did a lot of baby-sitting for many Steelville families. Dema was a dedicated, faithful, life long member of First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed boating at Indian Hills Lake with family and friends. Eating out rated high on her favorite things to do, along with going to Meramec Music Theatre, listening to Southern Gospel Music and following the St. Louis Cardinals ballgames.

Dema Edna Irene Roberts lay in state after 5 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating, Rev. Joe Massey and Rev. Elbert Mason assisting. Musical selections were provided by pianist Sharon Hardecke and vocalist Gary Hardecke.

Committal prayers and interment were in Old Dillard cemetery, Dillard, Missouri. Honoring Dema as pallbearers were Matt Hardecke, Mark Perkins, Paul Perkins, Bob Petty, Floyd Reed and T.J. Teed.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Virginia Lorena Usery

Virginia Lorena Usery, nee Wilkinson, was born Friday, May 27, 1927, at Huzzah, Missouri, a daughter of the late Andrew Layfette Wilkinson and Sarah Louise (Bays) Wilkinson.

She entered eternal rest, Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 15 days.

On March 27, 1948, at Belgrade, Missouri, Rev. John L. Britton united Virginia in marriage to Everett Usery, son of Luther Hanson Usery and Myrtle (Dicus) Usery. Two sons, Dennis and Kevin, and one daughter, Vickie, were born to this union. They enjoyed 43 years together before his death, May 10, 1991.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar Wilkinson and Fred Wilkinson and wife Durcie; three sisters, Olevea and husband William "Willie" Sease, Beulah and husband Roy Turnbough, Allie and husband John L. Britton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Granville Huitt, Etoluia Huitt, Charlie and Gwen Usery, Jesse and Estelle Usery, Sarah and Doyle Kaysinger, Pete and Irene Staples, Florence and Charles Mayfield, Myrtle and Thomas Wright, Jewell and Floyd Britton, Glen and Ruth Usery, Kenny Usery and Zella Usery.

Virginia, the youngest of five siblings, found herself growing up with her many nieces and nephews. In a time when money was scarce she enriched the world with her beautiful smile and loving heart.

Many of her childhood stories would end up with "we may have not had much, but we always had each other." This caring attitude set the course for her life long journey. Putting everyone before herself, Virginia could always be found lending a helping hand at various functions in her church life. A long time member of Berkeley Free Will Baptist, St. Peters Free Will Baptist and most recently attending the First Baptist Church of St. Peters. You would be hard pressed to count a handful of Sundays in which you wouldn't find Virginia with her smiling face sitting in the pew.

After the passing of her beloved husband Everett, friends and family became the fuel that drove her. Whether it be Sunday School, dominoes, enjoying Cardinals ball games, or the many fellowship activities she shared with her family, Virginia's charming personality was always there to brighten the occasion.

Loved by everyone who knew her and disliked by no one, Virginia will be most likely remembered for keeping her friends and family very close and her faith even closer.

Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three devoted children, Dennis Usery and wife Vicky of O'Fallon, Missouri, Vickie Edmonston and husband Mike of St. Peters, Missouri and Kevin Usery and wife Carol also of St. Peters, Missouri; four grandchildren, Matthew and Brian Usery, Amanda and Andrew Edmonston all of St. Peters, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Rowena Huitt of Steelville, Missouri and Hallie Evans of Alton, Illinois and brother-in-law, Harry Huitt of Sullivan, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends who will truly miss her.

Virginia Lorena Usery lay in state 3-8 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the Baue Funeral Home, St. Charles, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004, in the Baue Chapel with Rev. Dan Martin and Rev. Joe Braden officiating. Musical selections were provided by Don Britton, Carol Martin, Gary and Linda Walls.

Committal prayers and interment were in St. Charles Memorial Gardens, St. Charles, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Usery, Brian Usery, Carl, Roy and Fred Wilkinson and Scott Aticheson.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

H. Viola Brown

H. Viola Brown passed away on October 10, 2004. She was born on January 17, 1917 in Doniphan, Missouri.

She was married to John Kenneth Brown for 61 years and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1994. They were members of the Free Will Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri.

Viola is survived by her son, Bob Brown and Pat Cookson, her daughter, Ruth Ann Clendenin and husband Ronnie Clendenin; three brothers Cecil Ponder and wife Shirley, Harold Mikesell and wife Betty, Jerry Mikesell; sister-in-law Betty Laughlin; cousin Rick Stevens and wife Debbie and son Devon; grandchildren, Tim Brown and wife Eileen, Susan Scherer and husband Doug, Brenda Wolf, Sheila Adair and husband Wesley, Michelle Long and friend Wayne Kelly and granddaughter, Maria. There are 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, also dear friends, John Worthington, Dorothy Brown and Pam Garrison.

Viola Brown will be in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 after 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Naylor Masonic cemetery, Naylor, Missouri on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. Rev. Steve Schultz officiating. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
