James Lee Hanks

James Lee Hanks was born Wednesday, May 5, 1937 at Steelville, Missouri, a son of the late Frances Hanks nee Hopkins and Earl Woodrow Hanks.

He entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 30, 2004, at his home near Steelville, Missouri at the age of 67 years 4 months and 25 days.

On October 11, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Violet Klein by Rev. Nichols, a pastor of Steelville Assembly of God. They’ve been blessed with three lovely daughters, Tawnya, Dalynn and Teresa and over 45 wonderful years together.

Jim served in the U.S. Army from August 9, 1955 to July 28, 1958 when he was honorably discharged; 20 months of his enlistment was spent in Germany. He earned the rank of SP4-E4(T). He received the European Occupational Award and a Good Conduct Medal for his service and was a member of the Army Reserves until 1964.

Jim accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was employed as a mechanic for 21 years for the Crawford County Highway Department. His skills as a mechanic also were a service to family and friends. Among his many interests in life were enjoying fishing and rebuilding of wooden clocks.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Hanks and one brother-in-law, Howard Klein.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife, Violet Hanks of the home in Steelville, Missouri; three devoted daughters, Tawyna Hassler and husband Brian of Jefferson City, Missouri, Dalynnn Dew and husband Jerry of Steelville, Missouri, and Teresa Booker and husband Ricky of Cook Station, Missouri.

Six grandchildren, Zach Hassler, Jamie Hanks, Lindsey Hassler, Kelsie Booker, Lacey Dew and John Booker; six brothers, Eugene Hanks of Hill City, Kansas, Earl Hanks and wife Joyce of Steelville, Missouri, Jerry Hanks and wife Jettie of St. James, Missouri, Delmar Hanks and wife Kay of Sikeston, Missouri, Gary Hanks and wife Sherrie of Lohman, Missouri, and Michael Hanks of Camdenton, Missouri.

Three sisters, Sharon Thomas and husband Larry of Linn, Missouri, Pat Hanks and Debbie Lorraine, both of Steelville, Missouri; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Alma Hanks of Tebbetts, Missouri, Henrietta and Leroy Ness of Union, Missouri, Paula and Wes Sagers of LeClaire, Iowa, and David Klein of Cook Station, Missouri; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends who will fondly remember and truly miss him.

James Lee Hanks lay in state from 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Don Wissmann officiating, assisted by brother-in-law Leroy Ness. Musical selections were provided by daughters Teresa Booker and Dalynn Dew, Rev. Jerry Beers and pianist Iris Moreland.

Committal prayers and interment were in the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were his brothers, Eugene, Earl, Jerry, Delmar, Gary and Michael Hanks. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Radis Setzer, Albert Halbert, Brian Hassler, Jerry Dew and Ricky Booker.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Mabel Lorraine Oxendine

Mabel Lorraine Oxendine was born Tuesday, January 27, 1920, at Lenox, Missouri, a daughter of the late Maude Jane Stites (nee Stroud) and Walter J. Stites. She entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 8 days.

On November 1, 1933 at Steelville, Missouri, Justice of the Peace Easterday, united Lorraine in marriage to James R. Oxendine. Three children, one son Don, and two daughters, Ruby and Maudie, were born to this union. Jim preceded her in death December 30, 1965.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Minford Stites and Winford Stites, one sister Bernice Stites and one brother-in-law Julius Swyers.

Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children, Don Oxendine and wife Helen of Steelville, Missouri, Ruby Kies and husband Joe of New Mexico, Maudie Casarotto and special friend Dan Holman of St. James, Missouri; her sister, Opal Swyers of Steelville, Missouri.

Six grandchildren, Felica (Stacy) Griswold of Provo, Utah, Rocky Kies of Cannon City, Colorado, Jimmy Kies of Clanton, Alabama, Tammy (late Bobby) Irvin of Steelville, Missouri, Karen (Kenny) Koch, Mike (Jolanda) Casarotto of Lebanon, Missouri; 13 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mabel Lorraine Oxendine lay in state 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2004, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Leslie (Butch) Koerber officiating.

Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Church cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Cecil Stites, Lane Stites, Billy Stites, Joe Stites, Julius Swyers, Jr. and Jerry Swyers.

Arrangements were entrusted to Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

William “Bill” Edward Cooper

William “Bill” Edward Cooper, the son of Otto Benton Cooper and Lou Lora Jones, was born August 9, 1930, in Shannon County, Missouri, and passed away at home with his family at his bedside on Monday, January 3, 2005, at the age of 74 years 4 months and 25 days. He was united in marriage on December 29, 1948 to Bonnie Ilene Sanders. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. To this union, three children were born: Ronald Leon Cooper, Donna Mae Cooper, and William Edward Cooper, Jr.

Bill was a member and an elder of the Trinity Church, Leasburg, Missouri. Preceding him in death were his parents, Otto Benton Cooper and Lou Lora Jones Cooper and two sisters, Delores Cooper Lawson and Geneva Mae Cooper Neal.

Surviving him are his wife, Bonnie Ilene Cooper, of Steelville, Missouri, three children, Ronald Leon Cooper and Michelle Germann of Elkins, Arkansas; Donna Mae Kenagy and husband Brooks Kenagy of Cuba, Missouri; and William Edward Cooper, Jr. and wife Stephanie Cooper of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren: Kelly Cooper, Jarrod Cooper, Stephanie Cottrell and husband Colin Cottrell, Elicia Ness, Sean Kenagy, Allison Kenagy, Trenton Kenagy, Ryan Cooper, Jason Cooper, and Kasey Cooper; four great grandchildren, Hannah Cottrell, Chase Cottrell, Hannah Cooper and Haley Cooper. Four brothers, Lee Cooper, Calvin Cooper, Norman Cooper, and Kenneth Cooper.

Bill had a love for horses and enjoyed riding and showing both his and Ron’s. Nothing excited him more than talking about that turkey he killed, how many points his grandson scored at last night’s basketball game, or what his great-grandchildren made him do that day. He had a strong hand and a soft heart with no problem speaking what was on his mind. He was a good and faithful husband and a strong and loving father, the best grandfather that you could want, and the friend that you needed. He will be missed but not forgotten for now… “our angel has his wings.”

Services were held on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Arthur (Bud) Younger officiating. Interment was in New Eminence cemetery in Eminence, Missouri Under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.

Louise Hanson

Louise Hanson nee Dulany of St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Calvin and Estella Brown Dulany of Pacific, Missouri, was born October 13, 1907 in Dahlgren, Illinois. She entered eternal rest Saturday February 5, 2005 at Pacific, Missouri at the age of 97 years 4 months and 8 days.

Louise was united in marriage to Arthur Hanson of Steelville Missouri, May 21, 1925 at Steelville, Missouri. To this union one son Larry Hanson was born. Louise was raised in Steelville. Louise and Arthur made their home in St. Louis, Missouri. Louise was a floor manager for Stix Baer and Fuller in St. Louis until her retirement.

Louise was a member of the Skruggs Methodist Church in St. Louis where she held different jobs. She attended regularly until her health failed and she had to move to Pacific.

Louise was preceded in death by all of her siblings. Burl, Thomas, and Everett Dulany of Pacific, Missouri. Walter and Alma Dulany of Steelville, and Helen Zimmerman of Salem, Missouri, and her parents and her husband and son Larry Hanson.

Louise is survived by two nieces and one nephew, Pat Grimm and Jeanne Ann Groff, both of Pacific, Missouri and James Dulany of Steelville.

Attending the funeral from Steelville were her great nieces Barbara Berry, Tena Slovensky, and Sandy Brinkley, and Tammy Dean of Granite City, Illinois. Other area great nieces and nephews are Tim Farrar and Jane Edgar of Steelville and Alice Archuleta of Columbia, Missouri and Ronald Dulany of Moberly, Missouri.

Visitation and Funeral Services were held Tuesday February 8, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bell Funeral Home of Pacific with Rev. Velma Hawkins conducting the service at 1 p.m. Interment was at Sunset cemetery of St. Louis, Missouri.

Herbert Lee Hinson

Herbert Lee Hinson, Cuba, Missouri, born April 19, 1929 and passed away Friday, February 11, 2005 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.

He was the son of the late Clyde and Emma (Miller) Hinson.

Herbert was a carpenter for Residential Building.

On January 29, 1982 he married Ruth Stack in Steelville, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Stack) Hinson; four children (from his first wife, Irene Busen of Owensville): Terry Hinson and wife Laura of Owensville, Missouri, Mike Hinson and wife Cathy of Owensville, Missouri, Gary Hinson of Cuba, Missouri and Linda Hinson of Eldon, Missouri and Dawn Leslie and husband Mike of High Ridge, Missouri; a brother, Virgil Hinson and wife Gwen of Cuba, Missouri; two step children, Rita Boyd of Owensville, Missouri and Mark Boyd and wife Teresa of Owensville, Missouri.

Eleven grandchildren, three step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two step grandchildren, Sara Boyd and Adam Boyd; one great grandson, Elijah Shoemaker and a brother Clifton Hinson.

Herbert Hinson was in state at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri with funeral services Sunday, February 13, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville, Missouri with Les Dority officiating.

Interment was in the Howard cemetery in Bland, Missouri.

Charlie M. Taylor

Charlie M. Taylor, of Meramec Valley Lake Resort, Cuba, Missouri died February 5, 2005, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Charlie was born on November 27, 1928, in Rison, Arkansas, to Winnie and Etta Taylor. On June 27, 1948, he married Marilyn Preston in Little Rock, Arkansas. She survives.

Charlie graduated from Rison High School in 1946. He attended college at Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas. Charlie owned and operated a dairy farm for many years and then worked as a maintenance mechanic until retirement. His favorite things to do were camping, watching wildlife, reading, and woodworking. He was known for always having a positive outlook on life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Kathy Griffin and her husband, Gary, of Hurst, Texas; Chuck Taylor and his wife, Donna, of Texarkana, Arkansas; and Cindy Freels of Quincy, Illinois. Five grandchildren also survive.

No services will be held, however a get-together has been scheduled for Saturday, February 19, from 4-7 p.m. at the Meramec Valley Lake Resort Lodge. All friends and family are invited to attend.

Ben T. Copling

Benjamin Thomas Copling of Lebanon, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born in Leasburg, Missouri to Noah Alexander Copling and Rosie Ellen Warden Copling on Sunday, July 28, 1929. He passed away at St. John’s Hospital, Lebanon, Missouri on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Ben married Mary Lou Petty on December 24, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union three children were born. He was an auto mechanic for many years before retirement. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Otis Copling, Vernon Copling and wife Marie; sisters Hazel Hayes, Ida Carkuff, Violet Roth, Vivian Protte, Irene “Arlie” Kuhlman; and brother-in-law Virgil Hayes.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Mary Lou Copling of Lebanon, Mo.; sons Jim Copling and wife Teresa of Overland Park, Kansas and Larry Copling of Lebanon, Mo.; daughter Patricia Nord and husband Scott of Owensboro, Kentucky; sisters Bernice Hayes of Steelville, Mo., Artie Eddleman and husband Perry of Lebanon, Mo. and Rosemary Campbell and husband Mike of Cuba, Mo.; brothers Leroy Copling and wife Marilyn, and Henry Copling and wife Patsy all of Cuba, Mo.; sister-in-law Mona Hawkins of Fulton, Mo.; and granddaughter Hunter McKensie Nord; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was Thursday, February 24, 2005, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.

Funeral services were Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo. with Bro. Henry Copling officiating. Interment at Lick Creek cemetery, Cuba, Mo.

All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.

Viola Blevins Turnbough Fleschute

Viola Blevins Fleschute, nee Kreamalmeyer, was born Friday, March 10, 1922, at Cherryville, Missouri, a daughter of the late Ernest and Florence (Rawlins) Kreamalmeyer.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2005, Viola passed away in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Viola was preceded in death by, her first husband, Floyd Turnbough, her second husband Wayne Flesehute, one brother Orville Kreamalmeyer and one sister Mayme Huffman.

Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children, three daughters, Florence Gray and husband Donald of Indianapolis, Indiana, Edith Hawkins and husband Charles of Imperial, Missouri, Yvonne Stagner of Mountain View, Missouri.

Seven sons, Floyd Turnbough, Jr and wife Shelly of Homewood, Alabama, Robert Turnbough and wife Frances of Barnhart, Missouri, William Turnbough of St. Louis, Missouri, Ralph Turnbough of Barnhart, Missouri, Terry Turnbough and wife Heidi of St. Louis, Missouri, Ricky Turnbough and wife Becky of Ballwin, Missouri, and Michael Turnbough and wife Linda of Eureka, Missouri.

Three brothers, Albert Kreamalmeyer and wife Nellie of Mobile, Alabama, William Kreamalmeyer and wife Yvonne of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Clarence Kreamalmeyer and wife Bernice of Imperial, Missouri.

Five sisters, Dora Cason of Pratt, Kansas, Jessie Luntzer of Festus, Missouri, Garnith Turnbough and husband Bill of Pevely, Missouri, Minnie Black and husband Bill of DeSoto, Missouri, and Mary Parker of Galiton, Missouri; and one sisters-in- law Carol Kreamalmeyer.

Viola Blevins Fleschute lay in state 4-8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Ron Smith officiating.

Committal prayers and interment were in Freeman cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Honoring Viola as pallbearers were Michael Turnbough, Ricky Turnbough, Terry Turnbough, Ralph Turnbough, William Turnbough and Robert Turnbough.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Daniel Neil “Danny” Gruver

Daniel Neil Gruver was born Monday, July 5, 1950, at Steelville, Missouri, a son of Hazel Maxine (Satterlee) Gruver and the late Fred Thomas Gruver.

He entered eternal rest Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 22 days.

In addition to his father, Danny was preceded in death by two sons, Jon William and Daniel Neil, Jr., and his father-in-law Sody Finocchiaro.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Rosemary Gruver, of the home in Steelville, Missouri; his mother, Hazel Gruver also of Steelville; his mother-in-law, Alline (Earney) Finocchiaro of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter, Cheryl Gruver of Cuba, Missouri.

Two brothers, David Gruver and wife Clara of Steelville, Missouri, Donald Gruver of Steelville, Missouri and friend Karen McPeters of Cuba, Missouri; three sisters, Ruth Ann Cummins and husband Burl of Owensville, Missouri, Sue Cape and husband Wayne of Cuba, Missouri and Dianna Rinehart and husband Ronnie of St. James, Missouri.

A foster brother, Charles Yowell and friend Donna of Salem, Missouri; step-daughter, Dawn Brown and husband Jim of O'Fallon, Missouri and step-son Richard Reichert and fiancee Kailyn of Imperial, Missouri; four step grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Daniel Neil Gruver lay in state 3-9 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the Britton Bros.

Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005, in the First Assembly of God Church of Steelville, Missouri. Rev. Jesse Parrott, Rev. Jerry Beers and Father James Finder shared in the officiating duties.

Musical selections were provided by the Baptist Church Quartet and Rev. Beers.

Committal prayers and interment were in the Barnicle Chapel cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Trevor Cape, Sam Farrar, Tom Farrar, Jimmy Gruver, Justin Gruver and Charles Yowell. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Yowell and Corey Hawkins.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
