Della King

DONIPHAN -- Della Mae King, 84, of Doniphan died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan.

Mrs. King was born Aug. 21, 1920, at Corning, Ark. A housewife, she was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking cakes and making floral arrangements,

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Doser and husband, Bob, of Belvidere, Ill.; one sister, Dorothy Jenkins of Rockford, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Mary Murray and Linda Brady, who were raised as daughters.

She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Whitman; her parents, James and Lillie (nee Chappell) Murray; two sisters, Kelsie Benko and Twila Gustafson; and two brothers, Denver Murray and Dewey Murray.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home. Bro. Wade Rogers will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Olive cemetery in Doniphan.

Bobby Turner

ADVANCE -- Bobby Glenn Turner, 75, of Lowndes died Nov. 2, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Turner was born July 16, 1929, at Flint, Mich. He was a farmer and land developer, and he was the founder of the Turkey Creek Lake Resort. Mr. Turner was a graduate of Lilbourn High School and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith.

On July 23, 1971, he married Jean Kinningham. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Jana Howell of Lowndes and Leigh Ann Powell of Steele; two sons, Gary Turner of Jackson and Dennis Turner of Lowndes; one stepdaughter, Brenda Kirkpatrick of Sturdivant; two stepsons, Charles Turner of Lowndes and Hoytt "Bill" Turner of San Antonio; two sisters, Carolyn Benson and Betty Hubbard, both of Advance; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. tonight at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at the Mt. Zion cemetery in Steele.

Lewis Akin

FISK -- Lewis W. Akin, 56, of Dudley died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Akin was born Aug. 8, 1948, at Dudley. He was a self-employed mechanic and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. He had lived in Flint, Mich., for about 15 years.

On May 28, 1971, he married Penny Bays.

Survivors include one daughter, Angela Charles and husband, David, of Dexter; two sons, Mark Akin and wife, Tali, and Michael Akin and wife, Shaundra, all of Dexter; four sisters, Rose Lee Payton and husband, Leon, of Dittmer, Ethel Peyla of Dudley, Betty Roberts of Splendora, Texas, and Margarett Faries and husband, Bill, of Puxico; three brothers, George Akin and wife, Bea, of St. Clair, Frank Akin and wife, Karen, of Pevely and Charley Akin and wife, Deloris, of Oak Grove; 11 grandchildren; and his best friend, Marvin Stewart of Dexter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.W. Akin and Dora Akin; one sister, Dorothy Rhodes; and one brother, Jessie Akin.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Cris Dixon officiating. Burial will be at the Hagy cemetery in Dexter.

Maxine Belcher

Maxine West Belcher, 75, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at her residence.

Mrs. Belcher was born July 27, 1929, in Butler County to Henry and Julia (Gowen) Wisdom and graduated in the Poplar Bluff High School class of 1947. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff for 40 years, later becoming a member of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church where her late husband, Rev. Harold G. Belcher was the pastor. A retired social worker and mother, she was active with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Mark Twain P.T.A. In 1975, she was selected as the Butler County Homemaker of the Year. She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as cooking, sewing and gardening.

On May 31, 1947, she married E.L. West, the father of her children. He preceded her in death. On Nov. 25, 1989, she married Rev. Harold G. Belcher in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2003. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Maxine Marshaus on Jan 20, 1992; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Diane West, wife of Alan West, on Nov. 25, 1998; her parents, Henry Arthur and Julia Ann (Gowen) Wisdom; two sisters, Viola Wisdom Williams and Vada Wisdom Biggs; and four brothers, Lawrence Wagner, Harold Wagner, Leo Wisdom and Dick Wisdom.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Anderson and husband, Michael, of Poplar Bluff; three sons, Alan West, Greg West and wife, Angie, and Jeff West, all of Poplar Bluff; one son-in-law, Kurt Marshaus of Tomah, Wis.; one stepdaughter, Deborah Harris and husband, Eddie, of Middlebrook; three stepsons, Harold Gene Belcher Jr. of Bloomfield, Bruce Belcher and wife, Donna, of Dexter and Phillip Belcher and wife, Pamela, of Malden; 22 grandchildren, Christopher Marshaus, Julie Marshaus, Scott Marshaus, Ryan West, Tyler West, Danielle West, Dustin West, Mikki Daves, Alexandra West, Quinton West, Millicent West, Madison West, Cindy Kimball, Mark Porter, Kim Jines, Eric Belcher, Jennifer Ellis, Courtney Deckard, Emily Belcher, Elisha Belcher, Eddie Harris and Ashley Flecke; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond F. Wisdom of St. Ann.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Mrs. Martha Albers officiating. Burial will be at the City cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

William Arthur

BLOOMFIELD -- William "Scotty" Arthur, 28, of Essex died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Arthur was born Oct. 14, 1976, at Dexter. He attended Richland School.

Survivors include three sons, Kaleb Arthur, Tyler Arthur and Dillon Arthur, all of Bloomfield; one sister, Barbara Daya of Nashville, Tenn.; and his parents, Bill Arthur of Essex and Freda McAnally of Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Hardin officiating. Burial will be at the Bluff cemetery near Idalia.

Janie Bernice Cowan

NEW MADRID -- Janie Bernice Cowan, 71, of New Madrid died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 at her residence.

Mrs. Cowan was born May 29, 1933 in New Madrid, and had formerly lived in Chicago, Ill., Flint, Mich. and Portageville. She was a homemaker and had taught Sunday school class for 34 years.

She married Myers A. "Doc" Cowan, Sr. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1993.

Survivors include seven daughters, Sandra Phillips of Hazelwood, Mary Beth Hamilton of San Antonio, Texas, Madeline Cowan and Samantha Fitzgerald, both of New Madrid, Myra Lou Conyers of East Prairie, Deborah Garrett of Oran and Donna French of Louisiana; two sons, Myers "Skipper" Cowan, Jr., and Gary Lee "Doc" Cowan, both of New Madrid; one sister, Margaret Musgrave of Mountain Home, Ark.; one brother, Robert W. Fox of East Bernstadt, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the First Pentecostal Church in New Madrid. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Pentecostal Church in New Madrid with Rev. Orvil McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in New Madrid.

Fowler Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn Clyburn

PIEDMONT -- Carolyn V. Clyburn, 64, of Piedmont died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Mrs. Clyburn was born Nov. 28, 1939, at St. Louis. She was of the Catholic faith. She had formerly worked as a shipping clerk for U.S. Chrome and Metal in St. Louis and for the Wayne County Journal Banner in Piedmont.

On Aug. 27, 1955, she married Vernon Clyburn at Waterloo, Ill. He survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Debi Wyatt of Lanoke, Ark.; one son, John Clyburn of Lebanon, Maine; two brothers, Jimmy Favrot and Charles Favrot, both of Fort. Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. Saturday at Ruegg Funeral Home of Piedmont. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Elder Thabus Pyles officiating. Burial will be at Carson Hill cemetery in Mill Spring.

James Wilkerson

FISK -- James Edward Wilkerson, 75, of Fairdealing died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Wilkerson was born May 4, 1929, at Fisk. In 1990, he retired from a career as a self-employed mechanic and truck driver. He enjoyed raising cattle, operating heavy equipment, caring for his farm and fishing.

On June 25, 1949, he married Mary Magdalene Hampton at Biggers, Ark. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Collier of Lillian, Ala., Peggy Stone of Fairdealing and Debbie Chrisman of Doniphan; one sister, Joyce Bridges of Alexander, Ark.; two brothers, Ray Wilkerson of Kennett and Don Wilkerson of Fisk; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at White-Sanders Funeral Home of Fisk. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Hampton officiating. Burial will be at Shain Memorial cemetery.

Charles Mize

CAMPBELL -- Charles A. Mize, 75, of Campbell died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Mr. Mize was born April 27, 1929, at Lepanto, Ark. He was a retired truck driver and a United States Army Veteran, having served in WWII. He was a member of the Sunnyvale General Baptist Church.

He was married to Maxine Kinney. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Lisa Dunham of Holcomb; one son, Michael Mize of Campbell; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Landess Funeral Home of Campbell. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Anthony Dowdy officiating. Burial will be at Berger/Carola cemetery in Oglesville.

Harrel Page

PUXICO -- Harrel L. Page, 85, of Puxico died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Page was born May 2, 1919, in Stoddard County. He was a retired livestock farmer.

Survivors include one brother, Norvell L. Page of Baylis, Ill., and a special niece and caregiver, Donis Wheetley of Puxico.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Elder Jerry Park and the Rev. Gerald King officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill cemetery near Puxico.
