William Stevens

BERNIE -- William Henry Stevens, 85, of Parma died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Stevens was born March 4, 1919, at Vinson. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Vinson General Baptist Church.

On Jan. 16, 1939, he married Deloris Erwin at Bloomfield. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Ruth Tuggle of Evening Shade, Ark., Madline Kordonowy of St. Louis and Brenda Boyle of Beaver Creek, Ohio; four sons, Harold Stevens of Wappapello, Danny Stevens of Parma and Robert Stevens and Glen Stevens, both of Bernie; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Bernie cemetery.

Edna Darnell

BENTON, Ark. -- Edna E. Darnell, 79, of Benton, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004.

Mrs. Darnell was born March 4, 1925, at Kevil, Ky. She was a librarian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton.

She was married to Willie Darnell, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Daralina Hodge of Benton, Ark.; six grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ella Epps of Marlon, Ark.; and four brothers, Bill Burnley of Murray, Ky., Wayne Burnley of Brandon, Miss., and Dave Burnley and Charles Burnley, both of Searcy, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton, Ark. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Todd Murray officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Murray City cemetery in Murray, Ky.

Brooklynn Evans

Brooklynn Mae Evans, four weeks old, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Brooklynn was born Sept. 10, 2004, at Poplar Bluff.

Survivors include her parents, Brian Christopher and Holly Grace (nee Stimpson) Evans of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Briann and Brittany Evans of the home; her grandparents, Jerry and Catherine Hancock of Fairdealing and Diana Evans and Glenda Evans, both of Poplar Bluff; her great-grandmother, Beulah Mae Evans of Poplar Bluff; and great-grandparents, Janice and Claire Bradley of York, Pa.

Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randy Wallis officiating. A graveside committal service will be at the Poplar Bluff City cemetery with the Rev. Steve Patterson officiating.

Memorials may be made in the name of Brooklynn Mae Evans in care of First Midwest Bank of Poplar Bluff.

Richard Wiethan

MALDEN -- Richard "Dick" Wiethan, 79, of Malden died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Wiethan was born Dec. 18, 1924, at Oakland, Calif. He was of the Lutheran faith. Mr. Wiethan was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, having served in WWII, and the owner and operator of the KTCB radio station in Malden from 1955 until 1976. He was the past president of the Malden Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Malden Rotary Club, a member of the Malden Kiwanis Club and a member of the Bassmasters.

On March 2, 1945, he married Margaret E. "Peggy" Meyer at the Gunter Airbase Chapel in Montgomery, Ala. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, James C. Wiethan of Bates City and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Landess Funeral Home in Malden with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating. A private burial will follow.

Wanda Rokosz

LESTERVILLE -- Wanda V. Rokosz, 91, of Lesterville, formerly of Indiana, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the Brent B. Tinnin Manor in Ellington.

Mrs. Rokosz was born Nov. 1, 1912, at Hrobieszow, Poland. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at Lesterville. Mrs. Rokosz was a member of the Indiana Rovers Club and the Ladies Rosary Sodality at St. Stanislaus Parish in East Chicago, Ind. She enjoyed gardening and canning.

On June 22, 1946, she married John Stanley Rokosz at Hammond, Ind. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Vert of Lesterville and Victoria Elkins of Highland, Ind.; one son, John Anthony Rokosz of Cedar Lake, Ind.; a sister, Marcella Ann Ciucki of Munster, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at McSpadden Funeral Home of Lesterville. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rayfield cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association or the American Cancer Society.

Opal Morse

Opal Marie Morse, 92, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Morse was born on Dec. 19, 1912 at Williamsville to the late Herman and Lou Ella Banks. She was a homemaker and one of the original founders of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.

Well known by her apartment resident neighbors for her generous and compassionate concern for their well-being, she was lovingly referred to as the "food angel."

On July 16, 1930, she married James Ira Morse. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1973.

Survivors include her daughter Jane Ellen Rushin of St. Charles; five grandchildren, Randy Rushin and wife, Susan, Kent Rushin and wife Kelley, James Sease and wife, Lori, John Sease and wife, Debbie, and Gaye Morgan and husband, Wayne; and seven great-grandchildren, Jackie Rushin, Kyle and Kristopher Rushin, Samantha and Tammy Sease, and Christina and Casey Morgan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, James Robert Morse; four brothers, William Banks, Clay Banks, Marvin Banks and Tony Banks; and three sisters, Mildred Spicuzza, Jean Kline and Juanita Reardon.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lyle Alford officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Billy Paskel

Billy Gene Paskel, 73, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Paskel was born on Aug. 7, 1931 at Gibson to the late Rev. Martin Luther and Ola Alley Paskel. He was a retired food supervisor at the Poplar Bluff Hospital as well as the John. J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf with his friends and collecting antiques.

On Feb. 18., 1950 he married Joyce Marie Dees in Piggott, Ark. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Maria Jean Bolin and husband, Robert of Columbus, Ohio, and Jill Denise Biery and husband, Roger of St. Louis; one son, Marty DeWayne Paskel of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren, Travis Grimes, Ryan Paskel, Trent Grimes, Ashley Garamella, Brett Chilton, Rachel Paskel and Lexie Biery; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb Grimes and Dennis Garamella.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Joy Williams and two granddaughters, Robin Williams and Kristen Williams.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Williams Vail and the Rev. John Gilbert officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at the City cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

Odes Dalton

DONIPHAN -- Odes H. Dalton, 96, of Gatewood died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Ripley County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Dalton was born on Oct. 23, 1908 in Old Burr. He was a lifetime resident of Gatewood and a member of the Johnston Chapel Methodist Church. A retired carpenter and farmer, he enjoyed gardening and being with family.

On Nov. 5, 1933, he married Ethel Hagar and she survives. The Daltons were married for 71 years.

Other survivors include one daughter, Irene Eddington and her husband, Irvin, of Doniphan; one son, Tom Dalton and his wife, Marilyn, of Gatewood; one sister, Golden McPheeters of Doniphan; 10 grandchildren, Eddie Wilson and wife, Chrissy, Carolyn Lindley and husband, Walter, of Woodlands, Texas, Cindy Duffey and husband, Donnie, Brenda Pigg and husband, Nace, Ronnie King and wife, Robin, Brad Eddington and wife, Jessica, all of Doniphan, Sheila Massey and husband, Johnny, Tommy W. Dalton and wife, Tina, Alison McNew, all of Gatewood, Irvin Eddington Jr. of Ellington; 14 great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica Wilson, Mandy and Tanya Jackson, Leslie Brasser and husband, Nick, Natalie Duffey, Paige, Jake and Madison Eddington, Michael Pigg, Christopher and Samantha Massey, Stetson Dalton, Caleb McNew; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda King.

The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Payne officiating. Burial will be at Johnston Chapel cemetery.

Opal Carr

QULIN -- Opal Carr, 68, of Grandin, formerly of St. Louis and West Alton, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center of cancer.

Mrs. Carr was born March, 6, 1936 in Qulin. She was a retired worker at Bussman Fuse in St. Louis and Olin Corporation in Alton. She enjoyed helping people, growing flowers and hunting. She was a high school graduate from Qulin, Class of 1954 and a member of the First General Baptist Church in Ellsinore.

On Sept. 15, 1955, she married Irvin "Super" Carr. He survives. Preceding her in death is one brother, Michael Schrader and one grandson, Jason Carr.

Other survivors include one son, Ronald Carr and wife Kim Carr of Jacksonville Fla.; one brother, Jerry Schrader of Lomont; and one granddaughter, Jillian C. Carr of Dayton, Tenn.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial will be in the Qulin cemetery.
