Sister Christelle Conway
Sister Christelle Conway, OSB, 78, a Benedictine Sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kan., died Monday, June 21, 2010, at the monastery.
She was born Sept. 14, 1931 to Francis Michael and Clara Elizabeth Boschert Conway. Sister Christelle grew up in a family of eight children in Chillicothe, Mo.
She attended St. Columban’s School and St. Joseph Academy. After graduation she entered the Benedictine Sisters in June, 1949, and made monastic profession Jan. 1, 1951. At Mount St. Scholastica College she earned the Bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in mathematics.
Sister Christelle taught in Panama, Iowa; in Corning, Wamego, and Horton, Kan.; in Omaha, Neb.; and in Clyde and Kansas City, Mo. (Guardian Angels). For over 35 years she taught math either at Bishop LeBlond High School, St. Joseph, Mo; or at Mount St. Scholastica Academy, Atchison. As dean of students at both high schools and assistant to the principal, she was known for her sense of humor and sense of justice.
She is survived by her sisters Mary Louise Haynes, Chillicothe, Mo.; and Caroline Jeffries, Kansas City, Mo.; by nieces and nephews, cousins, and by her monastic family.
Sister Christelle was preceded in death by her parents; by her brothers John, Lawrence, Mike, and James Patrick; and by her sister Mary Elizabeth (Connie) Smith.
The vigil service will be Friday, June 25, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the monastery chapel and the Mass of Resurrection will be offered there Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be sent to Mount St. Scholastica.
The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Allen
Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Allen, 86, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Mo.
Betty was born May 24, 1924 in Lacona, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Frances (Klein) Rodgers. On Dec. 6, 1944 she married Orval Allen in Trenton, Mo. He preceded her in death in Oct. 1973.
She was a 1941 graduate of Lacona High School, Lacona, Iowa.
Betty was a bookkeeper at Henderson Produce, PN Hirsch and Company, Montgomery Ward, Gambles and Empire Gas.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Bette J. Atwell, Chillicothe, Mo.; one grandson, Allen Atwell and wife Julie, Prairie Village, Kan.; one step daughter-in-law, Susie Allen, Chillicothe, Mo.; four step grandchildren, Tom Allen, Liberty, Mo., Ron and Kirk Allen, Calif., and Tracey Allen, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Toni Cheyanna Atwell and Bryce Atwell, both of Prairie Village, Kan.; and several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; one brother, Allen Rodgers; two stepsons, Paul Allen and Orval Dean Allen; and one step grandson, Tim Allen.
Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo., on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo.

Howard Wayne Kissick
Howard Wayne Kissick, 85, a resident of Oklahoma City, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Hospice House in Oklahoma City.
Howard was born Nov. 9, 1924 in Avalon, Mo., the son of Orrin W. and Nellie M (Colton) Kissick.
He was a 1942 graduate of Avalon High School, Avalon, Mo. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 and was trained as an aerial gunner and received both a victory medal and good conduct medal.
Howard worked for many years as a life insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life, St. Paul’s and American General. He made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and had been a member of Putnam City Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Howard is survived by four sons, Charles Mike Kissick, Guthrie, Okla., Ron G. Kissick, Spring, Texas, Dan H. Kissick, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Larry D. Kissick, Yukon; and one daughter, Kathy Kissick-Davenport, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Lee Kissick, Fort Myers, Fla., and Donald Kissick and wife Norma, Chillicothe, Mo..
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to Right Hand Ministries, P.O. Box 12784, Oklahoma City, OK 73157 or to the HOPE Orphanage (same address) ministries that Howard supported many times.

Bonnie Dennis
Bonnie Dennis, 77, a resident of Hale, Mo., died Monday, June 21, 2010 at her home.
She was born May 1, 1933 in Bosworth, Mo., the daughter of Earl and Edna Mae (Landreth) Lightfoot.
Bonnie was a 1951 graduate of Hale High School, Hale, Mo.
Bonnie was a member of Chapter BH PEO and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church in Hale, Mo.
She is survived by one son, Mark K. Dennis and wife Diane, Hale, Mo.; two daughters, Candy Hart and husband Larry, Hale, Mo., Penny Hutchison and husband Randall, Overland Park, Kan.; three brothers, Jake Lightfoot and wife Mary, Clinton, Mo., Bill Lightfoot and wife Norma, North Kansas City, Mo., and Gary Lightfoot, Bonner Springs, Kan.; one sister, Helen Walker, Alma, Mo.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Fern Barlow; brothers, Harold Lightfoot and Raymond Lightfoot and two infant brothers, Ervin and Lawrence and one infant sister, Wanda.
Funeral services will be held at the Hale Baptist Church, Hale, Mo., on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12 to 9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo. Burial will be in Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Hospice and/or H.E.L.P. Services of Carrollton, Mo. Contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Ronald D. “Burley” Breashears
Ronald D. “Burley” Breashears, 67, died Monday, June 28, 2010 in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born on June 23, 1943 in Wichita, Kan.
He served in the U.S. Navy and then went on to finish his bachelor’s degree in Special Education at Emporia State. He began his adult life as a special education teacher and finished his working career with 30 years served as a Millwright, Local 1529.
He was lifelong member of the YMCA, a member of the Kansas City Athletic Club and a lover of the game of handball. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s parish in Kansas City, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Breashears; mother, June Miller; mother-in-law, Mildred Saale; brother, Don Breashears; son, Gary Breashears and his wife Michelle Breashears; daughter, Katy Breashears and her husband Phil Hageman, as well as his community of friends.
The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at McGilley’s Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, with the Rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at St. Gabriel’s Church, 4737 N. Cleveland. Honorary pallbearers will be Brothers of Millwright Local 1529 and members of the Kansas City Athletic Club.

John C. Gossick
John C. Gossick, 78, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Mo., after his 19-year battle with cancer.
He was born April 27, 1932 in Kansas City, Mo., to George and Dorothy Brennan. On Nov. 22, 1956 he married Carol Littrell in Wheeling, Mo. She survives of the home.
John was a 1950 graduate of Meadville High School, Meadville, Mo., and was a member of the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He attended Finley Engineering from 1955 until 1958. He was employed by Allied Signal from 1957 to 1963 and from 1968 to 1992; McDonnel Douglas in St. Louis, Mo., from 1958 to 1968; and the Green Hills Golf Course from 1993 until 2005. John was a member of the First Christian Church and the Vern R. Glick Post No. 25 in Chillicothe, Mo.
He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and calling bingo.
He is survived by one son, Douglas C. and wife Allison, Prairie Village, Kan.; two daughters, Kerry and husband Gregg Hutchison, Overland Park, Kan., and Kristy and Dan Meservey, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and eight grandchildren, Brad, Brett, and Bryan Hutchison, Overland Park, Kan., Nick and Scott Meservey, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Jackson, Camryn and Ryan Gossick, Prairie Village, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Anna Ruth Pickering, Jasper, Ga., and Mary Margaret Norwood, Chillicothe, Mo.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandmother and step-grandfather Myrtle and Russell Lee, who raised him.
Memorial services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. There will be no family visitation. Friends may call after 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hedrick Medical Center Hospice and left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Chester H. “Sonny” McGaughey
Chester H. “Sonny” McGaughey, 73, of Savannah, Mo., died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Mo.
He was born January 26, 1937 in St. Joseph, Mo., to Chester and Virginia (Bettis) McGaughey. Sonny married Harriett Hewitt on Dec. 2, 1960 at Rosendale Christian Church, and she preceded him in death on October 22, 2000.
Sonny attended Missouri Western State College, St. Joseph, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army. He was owner of McGaughey’s Tax Service, St. Joseph, Mo., for over 40 years and before that was manager of the Skylark Drive-In. He was an appliance repairman.
He was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church, St. Joseph, Mo., where he served as an usher, worked with the AWANA group, and was active on Mission Trips. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Amazonia, Mo.
He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Schmitt, Derby, Kan., Rochelle Sherrow, Chillicothe, Mo.; two grandchildren; three brothers, John McGaughey, Springfield, Mo., Willy McGaughey, Savannah, Mo., and Michael McGaughey, Canada; two sisters, Janet Dozier, St. Joseph, Mo., Judy Miller, Plattsburg, Mo.; an aunt; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 3 brothers, an infant, James, Charles and his wife, Annette, and Victor McGaughey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at Green Valley Baptist Church, St. Joseph, Mo. Interment with military honors will be in Savannah, Mo., cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010.
Memorial donations are suggested to Green Valley Baptist Church.

Mary Ellen Paschal
Mary Ellen Paschal, 61, of Brookfield, Mo., died Friday, July 2, 2010 at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Mo.
Mary Ellen was born Dec. 21, 1948 in Chillicothe, Mo., the daughter of Simon T. and Dorothy Hazel (Watts) Boude.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Gods Garden Church of Brookfield, Mo., and also the Christian Soldiers Motorcycle Group.
Mary is survived by one son, Michael Jones, Brookfield, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa Jones, Neosho, Mo.; two brothers, Howard Boude, Independence, Mo., and Herbie Boude, Chillicothe, Mo.; seven sisters, Wanda Sams, Ruby Lamp, and Bonnie Mitchell, all of Chillicothe, Mo., Judy Mills, Texas, Betty Breeden, Laclede, Mo., Norma Boude, Brookfield, Mo., and Pearl King, Platte City, Mo.; four grandchildren.; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Michael L. Jones and Charles E. Paschal; several brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Gods Garden Church, Brookfield, Mo., with Pastor Frank Bolin officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawn Memorial Garden cemetery, Brookfield, Mo. Visitation will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Gods Garden Church, Brookfield, Mo., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials have been suggested to the Mary Ellen Paschal Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to the Rhodes Funeral Home, 216 Linn Street, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Robert F. “Bob” Harford
Robert F. “Bob” Harford, 83, died Sunday, July 4, 2010.

David L. Peacher
David L. Peacher, 52, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., died Friday, June 25, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Leigh; parents, Alta (from the Chillicothe, Mo., area) and Bill Davies; sister, Debby Haynes and husband Chuck; brothers, Steve Peacher and wife Diane, and Kevin Peacher and wife Maggie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his brother, Brent.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Charter Funerals/Northland Chapel, 77 NE 72nd Street, Gladstone, Mo., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Charter Funerals/Northland Chapel, Gladstone, Mo.

Berenice Marie Prewitt Nibarger
Berenice Marie Prewitt Nibarger, 92, a resident of Excelsior Springs, Mo., former resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Berenice was born Feb. 24, 1918 in Hickory, Mo., to Oscar Lee and Sarah Bell (Rice) Prewitt. She married Leonard Nibarger on Feb. 16, 1936 in rural Chillicothe, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2005.
She was active in the church and community in addition to assisting her husband with their business of first building homes in the area and later Nibargers Builders Supply.
She is survived by two children, Eleanor Brooks, Austin, Texas and Richard Nibarger, Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Davis, Kansas City, Mo.; four brothers, Carroll Prewitt, Sante Fe, Texas, Lee Prewitt, Holt, Mo., Don Prewitt, Lawson, Mo., and Gary Prewitt, Kansas City, Mo.; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and a granddaughter; then in 2005, she lost her husband of 69 years; a son, Merrill and son-in-law, Stephen Brooks. Afterwards she chose to move to a retirement home in Kearney where her health began to steadily decline.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Mo., on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. There will be a family visitation on Sunday at 1 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 and from 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. A private family burial will be in the Brassfield cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
