Larry Littrell
Avid local horseman, Larry Littrell, 62, of Chillicothe, Mo., died Monday, July 5, 2010 at 12:30 a.m. of complications related to his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Howard Oliver Bennett
Howard Oliver Bennett, 78, of Galt, Mo., died Sunday morning, July 4, 2010 at his home.
Howard was born July 13, 1931 in Sullivan County, Mo., near Milan, the son of Herbert and Marva (Dehm) Bennett. In 1953 he married Ann Meek Losey and four daughters were born to this marriage. He later married Joan K. Fewell and she survives.
Howard was a lifelong resident of the Grundy and Sullivan County areas. He was a 1949 graduate of Humphreys High School where for several years had held the record for most points scored in a basketball game. He was a Golden Gloves boxer in his early years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. Howard started farming in the Cora area and raised cattle and hogs and owned and operated several farms in the area. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and was a member of the Chillicothe Eagles Lodge and the Trenton Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; five daughters, Peggy Sloane, Seattle, Wash., Penny Bennett, Milan, Mo., Polly Applebury, Chillicothe, Mo., Phyllis Deventer, Brookfield, Mo., and Kara Bennett, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three step-children, Michelle Casey, Kearney, Mo., Ryan Saip, Orlando, Fla., and Tim Saip, Germany; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Bennett, Milan, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Brian Saip; a nephew, Mike Bennett; and one sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, Mo., with Steve Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Milan, Mo., with Military Rites at graveside by Missouri Military Honors Team led by his grandson, Sgt. 1C Jordan Bennett. Casket bearers are Jeremy and Joshua Bennett, Jeremiah Applebury, Ryan and Tim Saip, and Levi Oens. All his grandchildren will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
The family has suggested contributions to Oakwood cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, Mo.

Irene Ann Lorenz
Irene Ann Lorenz, 93, a resident of Wheeling, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Mo.
She was born March 10, 1917 in Eldorado, Ill., the daughter of Demetrius and Anna (Khrabar) Pasulka.
She was a beautician for several years. She was a member of a Kitchen Band in Zeigler, Ill.
Irene is survived by one daughter, Linda Toedebusch, Wheeling, Mo.; two sons, Paul Lorenz, Baldwin, Mo., and Michael Lorenz, Longbranch, Miss.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
There was a cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Humane Society and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Hiram C. Silkwood
Hiram C. Silkwood, 69, of Tarkio, Mo., formerly of Braymer, Mo., died on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010.
He was born the son of James and Amy Ford Silkwood on Jan. 29, 1941, in Braymer.
He is survived by a sister, Sara Jane Sprague of St. Joseph, Mo.; two great-nephews, Ryan L. Buckler and Kyle M. Buckler, both of Clarksdale, Mo.; one niece Linda Buckler and husband Danny of Clarksdale, Mo.; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at the Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo., on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Braymer, Mo.

Lois Marie Madsen
Lois Marie Madsen, 90, of Gladstone, Mo., died at Indian Hills — Stonebridge, Chillicothe, Mo., on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010.
She was born the daughter of Orlo and Kate Benton Stewart on Sept. 19, 1919, in Guthrie County, Iowa. She was married to Carl Madsen who preceded her in death. She was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge.
A special thanks to Lori Madsen and to the staff at Indian Hills and the Hedrick Hospice, both of Chillicothe, Mo. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, Gary C. Madsen and wife Janet of Gladstone, Mo.; daughter-in-law Marilyn Madsen, of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several special nieces and nephews; and two dear friends Mary Jean McCombs and Barbara Markley-McClung. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Russell L. Madsen, and her sister, Wilma Armstrong.
Services will be held at Hillside Christian Church, 900 Northeast Vivion Road, Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. There will be a family visitation at the Hillside Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday, Aug. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. On Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 friends may call the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Burial will be in the White Chapel cemetery in Gladstone. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and/or to the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Ronald “Ronnie” Douglas
Ronald “Ronnie” Douglas, 65, of Linneus, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at his home.
Ronald was born April 10, 1945 in Chillicothe, Mo., son of Ernest E. Sr. and Georgia Lorene (Johnson) Douglas. On Aug. 24, 1970 he married Judy Carr in Brookfield, Mo.
Ronnie was a member of the International Brotherhood Boilermakers Union Local 83, Kansas City, Mo., and the First Christian Church of Mendon, Mo.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; two step-daughters, Jan Gaunt, Linneus, Mo., Christine Massey, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two step-sons, Randi Gaunt, S.C., and Cliff Guilford, Brookfield, Mo.; twin brother, Donald, Hale, Mo.; a special aunt; nine step-grandchildren; 15 step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest E. Douglas Jr., and one sister, Carol Nickell.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 at Lakeside cemetery, Sumner, Mo., with Rev. Gail Brown officiating.

Eugenia “Jeanne” M. Churchill
Eugenia “Jeanne” M. Churchill, 90, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Mo., with her family at her side.
She was born Aug. 12, 1920 in Carroll County, Mo., the daughter of Dee and Maude Bunch Minnis. On May 25, 1940 she married Kenneth Fredrick Churchill and was married to him for 70 years. He survives in the family home.
Jeanne was a 1937 graduate of Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Mo., and graduated from the Saint Joseph Beauty Academy in 1983.
Jeanne then became a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of Junior Sorosis and Chapter T P.E.O. She enjoyed Bridge Club with her lifelong friends, gardening and traveling. She taught Sunday school at United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Mo., where she was a lifelong member.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth F. Churchill; her children, Fred Churchill and wife Lois, Lake St. Louis, Mo., daughter, Connie Moore and husband Fred, Scottsdale, Ariz., daughter, Patricia Churchill, Liberty, Mo., son, David M. Churchill and wife Jennie Jo, Chillicothe, Mo., daughter, Julie Longwell and husband Mark, Gladstone, Mo.; grandchildren, Mark Frederick Churchill, Michael Roe and wife Christine, Matthew Roe and wife Michelle, Luke Roe and wife Denise, Abby Chavez and husband Tim, Neelie Churchill, Clayton Longwell, Donny Churchill, Duke Churchill, and Clinton Longwell and wife Tina; great-grandchildren, Colin Roe, Addie Roe, Kenneth Frederick Roe, Connor Roe, Victoria Roe, Drew Chavez, Samuel Kenneth Chavez, and Margaret Churchill; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dee and Maude Minnis; sisters, Cordie Trussell, Opel Baker, Bunch Hundley, Fawnie Williams, Gwen Johnson, Exylee Minnis; and brothers, Dee Minnis, Jr., Malcom Minnis and Clarendon Minnis.
Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Mo. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and/or the United Methodist Church of Chillicothe and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Trudy Louise (Gray) Deihl
Trudy Louise (Gray) Deihl, 54, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 in Liberty, Mo.
Trudy was born May 17, 1956 in Kirksville, Mo., to Betty Louise and George DeVon (Pete) Gray. She was raised in Browning, Mo., and on May 28, 1978 she married Jeffrey Lee Deihl.
She is survived by children, Kara McDonald and Graig Deihl; grandchildren, Patrik McDonald and Evan Lawson; brothers, Charles and Steven Gray; six nieces and seven nephews.
Trudy is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Paul and her husband of 12 years.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 from 12 to 1 p.m. with services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons White Chapel, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Mo. Burial will be Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Knifong cemetery in Browning, Mo.

Irene Higgins
Irene Higgins, 76, of Wheeling, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 1, 1933 near Eversonville, Mo., the daughter of Delbert Halsey and Della Gertrude (Transue) Stevenson. On Feb. 22, 1953 she married Robert Lee Higgins in Wheeling, Mo. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003.
She attended White Cloud School through the eighth grade and graduated from Wheeling High School in 1951. She attended CBC and graduated from Chillicothe Business College in 1952.
She worked as a secretary for Churchill Truck Lines.
Irene was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending Wheeling Baptist Church. She and her husband Bob farmed and raised livestock and had a Sweet Lassy Feed dealership at their home north of Meadville, Mo. They purchased the Laclede Elevator in 1973 and built the Wheeling Elevator in 1984. They operated a grain storage elevator for 30 years.
Irene enjoyed her family, friends and grandchildren. Irene was a leader with the Junior Bees 4-H Club, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, and a 40-year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed being active in her community and was a Meadville Eagle basketball fan.
She is survived by three daughters, Debby Higgins, Chillicothe, Mo., Pam Quick and husband Paul, Wheeling, Mo., and Trisha Wilburn and husband Bobby, Meadville, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Kelsey Lee and husband Mac, Cameron, Mo., Jayme Voss and husband John, Savannah, Mo., Emily Neal, St. Joseph, Mo., Lauren Quick, Sedalia, Mo., Jason Quick, Maryville, Mo., Angela Quick, Wheeling, Mo., Megan Sensenich and husband Sean, Chillicothe, Mo., and Kenny Wilburn, Chillicothe, Mo.; one great-grandson, Mason Henry Voss born Feb. 11, 2010; sister, Margaret Howe and family, Chillicothe, Mo., area; sister-in-law, Charlotte Robbins and family, Gladstone, Mo.; and many close cousins and friends of the surrounding community.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob on May 1, 2005, her parents and grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, and a brother-in-law.
Services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. There will be a family visitation on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at the Wheeling cemetery, Wheeling, Mo. Friends may call on Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston County Library and left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Ella Lee “Billie” Emerson Beal Dray
Ella Lee “Billie” Emerson Beal Dray, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 in Jefferson City, Mo.
She was born Sept. 12, 1916 in Livingston County, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Lee Cox Emerson, who predeceased her. She married Leo Beal in 1936 and married Warren W. Dray in 1969, both predeceased her.
Ella attended Chillicothe High School and earned her degree in teaching at what is now Truman State University. She spent her adult life as a school teacher in the Livingston County area, serving the Avalon, Utica, Southwest and Chillicothe school districts, for 35 years until her retirement in 1975. She enjoyed being active in her church, playing golf, fishing, quilting, crocheting and playing cards. She also enjoyed traveling very much and was always ready to “go for a ride.” She enjoyed a host of great grandchildren – 15 in number.
Ella is survived by one son, Roy Beal and wife Jackie, Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Lori Beal Murphy and husband John,Wantagh, N.Y., and Arnold “Chip” Beal and wife Angela, Lebanon, Tenn.; two step-sons, Robert Dray and wife Anne, Holiday Island, Ariz., and Dr. James Dray and wife Eileen, Lawrence, Kan.; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Dray Miller and husband Dennis, Cedar Point, Iowa, Kimberly Dray, Schererville, Ind., Melissa Dray, Nashville, Tenn., and Amanda Dray, Lawrence, Kan., Julia Backues and husband Andrew, Dr. Spencer Kemmer and wife Maria and Kimberly Closser and husband Tim, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; and her pet daschund, Gizmo.
She was preceded in death by her husbands and half-brother Archie Cox.
Services will be held at the Linneus United Methodist Church, Linneus, Mo., on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call on Friday from 12 until 9 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the Linneus United Methodist Church.
