Joan Hosman, 81, died Friday, Nov. 26 2010
Joan Hosman, 81, a resident of Cowgill, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 in Liberty, Mo.
She was born Dec. 28, 1928 in Cowgill, Mo., the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Ream) Mills. On Feb. 17, 1947 she married Jack Hosman in Troy, Kan. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2004.
She is survived by four daughters, Sherry Mallory, Decatur, Ill., Kathy Toomay, Liberty, Mo., Lisa Witmer, Liberty, Mo., and Lynetta Longstreet, Hayesville, Kan.; one brother, Ralph Mills, Cowgill, Mo.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery, Braymer, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Pitts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 247, Braymer, MO 64624.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo.

Nellie Mabel Jones Turner, 98, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010
Nellie Mabel Jones Turner passed away Tuesday, November 16 at Kansas City Hospice House following a massive stroke, just 8 days short of her 99th birthday. She was born November 24, 1911 at Glen Oak Farm, near Bendena, KS to Edwin and Agnes (Steele) Jones. The youngest of six siblings, she grew up in Kansas and Missouri, moving with her family to the area immediately northeast of St. Joseph in 1919.
After graduation from Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College, she attended the University of Missouri, where in 1933 she received two BS degrees in Home Economics and Education. She taught high school home economics and science in Chilhowee, MO and later in New Hampton, MO. She was a Life Member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association.
She married Edison “Cap” Turner May 30, 1936 at her family’s home on Riverside Road in St. Joseph. They resided in Chilhowee until his premature death in 1941. She subsequently moved back with her St. Joseph family to raise her two children while working on the family dairy farm.
She was a 4-H leader and volunteer for the majority of her adult life, and has established a fund to sponsor attendance of three Missouri 4-H teens to a national leadership training conference in Washington, D.C. every year. In order to continue this sponsorship her family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent in her honor to Missouri 4-H Foundation, Attn: Cheryl Reams, 819 Clark Hall-UMC, Columbia, MO 65211.
Inspired by her family’s extensive collection of National Geographic magazines, she became an adventurous traveler in later years, mostly after age 80. She visited 49 foreign countries, setting foot on every continent except Antarctica and cruising every major river except the Amazon. Her notable adventures include white water rafting above the Arctic Circle at age 90 and riding an elephant in Thailand at age 80, a camel ride in Egypt, an ox cart ride in Myanmar and a hot air balloon ride viewing wildlife in Serengeti, all occurring in between.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were siblings Walter, Steele, Ione, Dora and Edna Jones. Two additional infant siblings died shortly after birth. She is survived by her two children, Ed (Lois) Turner of Chillicothe, MO and Joan (John) Hickman of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren John (Wendy) Hickman, Eric (Angela) Turner, and Julia (John) Bartlett; great-grandsons Jack and Jake Bartlett, Edison Turner and William Hickman; nephew Ed Jones of Los Altos Hill, CA. Numerous cousins and extended family members were also near and dear to her heart.
Service will be held 12:30 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Denton cemetery, Denton, KS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.

Donald Charles Head, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010
Donald Charles Head, 87, a resident of Chillicothe, died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Mo.
Donald was born the son of Ernest Charles and Clora Mae (Stephenson) Head on Oct. 16, 1923 in Browning, Mo. He married Ival Lucille Robinson on April 17, 1948 in Brookfield, Mo. She survives him of the home.
He graduated from Linneus High School. He was a World War II Army Veteran, and worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell for 37 years. For 30 years, he was a member of Peppy Promenaders. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandson, Connor.
Donald is survived by his son, Mark Head and wife Luann of Chillicothe; daughter DeNeece Saunders and husband Gene of Stewartsville, Mo.; and grandson Connor Elliott of Columbia, Mo.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nadine Campbell.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial was at Edgewood cemetery, Chillicothe.

Lyle Watkins, 66, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010
Rev. Lyle Watkins, 66, a resident of Melbourne, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 in rural Melbourne, Mo.
Mr. Lyle Watkins was born Oct. 30, 1944 in Melbourne, Mo., the son of Olin J. and Mildred K. Perry Watkins. On Jan. 25, 2009 he married Jo Ann Tedrick at Norwood, Mo.
He attended Melbourne grade schools and graduated from Gilman City High School. He then graduated from Trenton Junior College with an Associates of Arts degree in Bussiness.
He was a life long resident of Melbourne and owned and operated Watkins Roofing Co., of Gilman City, Mo., for over 35 years. Lyle was veteran of the Vietnam Era serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the Better Business Bureau and was president of the Mitchell cemetery Board. He was a former member of the Melborune Baptist Church and now is a member and Pastor of Faith Bible Baptist Church of Trenton.
His survivors include his wife Jo Ann Watkins, of the home; three daughters, Lila Moore, Trenton, Mo., Lori Watkins, Trenton, Mo., and Karrie Watkins, Trenton, Mo.; one son, Wes Watkins, Trenton, Mo.; six step-daughters, Della Carroll, Gallatin, Mo., Reva Larson, Philpot, Ky., Jodie Hudnall, Cibolo, Texas, Kellie Sethman, Laredo, Mo., Sheelia Griffin, Buckner, Mo., and Cindy Gardner; four step-sons, Rodney Tedrick, Sturgeon, Mo., Jason Tedrick, Trenton, Mo., David Gardner and Tim Gardner; three grandchildren, 27 step-grandchildren and 19 step- great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Olin Watkins, his mother Mildred Watkins, his wife Ruby Watkins, and one brother Max Watkins.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Gilman City Baptist Church, Gilman City, Mo. Burial will be in Mitchell cemetery at Melbourne, Mo. Family visitation will be held at Slater Funeral Home, Trenton, Mo., on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Mitchell cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Slater Funeral Home, Trenton, Mo.

Clay Junior Leakey, 56, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010
Clay Junior Leakey, 56, a resident of Braymer, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at his residence.
He was born July 24, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Roy Leakey and Clara Hawkins.
He was a 1972 graduate from Braymer High School.
Clay was employed at TigerCo Implement Company as a mechanic and also worked as a farm laborer.
He is survived by one son, Eric Leakey, Raymore, Mo.; one sister, Sylvia Fitzwater, Braymer, Mo.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Leonard and Rex Allen.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Braymer, Mo. Friends may call between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at the Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer, Mo. Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Braymer, Mo.

Larry L. Morley, 69, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010
Mr. Larry L. Morley, 69, a resident of Trenton Mo., died Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 2010 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home, in Trenton, Mo.
Mr. Larry L. Morley was born Feb. 23, 1941 in Trenton, Mo., the son of Ray and Vida Kincaid Morley. On July 30, 1960 he married Betty Louise Gardner at Trenton, Mo. They were married for over 50 years.
He graduated from Trenton High School in 1959. He was a life long resident of Trenton and worked construction before retiring.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton, USBC Bowling Association, and the pool league.
He is survived by his wife Louise of the home. One daughter, Debbie Morgan, Trenton, Mo.; one grandaughter; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his father Ray Morley, his mother Vida Morley, and one sister Dela (Tootie) Taylor.
There was a cremation under the direction of Slater Funeral Home, Trenton, Mo. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Trenton, Mo., with Rev. Barry Boulware officiating. Private burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to either Wright Memorial Hospice or Wesley United Methodist Church, they may be left at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Slater Funeral Home, Trenton, Mo.

Charles Frederick (C.F.) Bakker, II, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010
Charles Frederick (C.F.) Bakker, II, of Atlanta, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at his home.
C.F. was born son of M. Jean Arthaud, formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., now residing in Warrensburg, Mo., and the grandson of Herman W. and Irene E. Shiflet, Chillicothe, Mo.
C.F. had attended school at different times in Chillicothe, Mo. He visited often in the home of his maternal grandparents Nanna and Granddad and always considered Chillicothe his home town.
C.F. became a high school teacher. He taught in North Kansas City, Mo., Walnut Creek, Calif., and Atlanta, Ga.
He was the recipient of several awards and commendations. He also worked for a number of years for the Atlanta YMCA.
As a senior citizen, C.F. participated and won several triathlons and was nationally ranked. In 2007 he was awarded overall first place win in the State of Georgia.
C.F. was a member of Collins Methodist Church of Atlanta, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Hooverin Bakker of the home and his two children, Joseph Clay Bakker and Elizabeth Ann Bakker and grandchildren, Sam and Caroline Bakker of Rogers, Ark., two sisters, Carol Bakker Wilson and Lee Arthaud Grende; several nieces and nephews.
A ceremony following cremation will be held at a later date to celebrate his life, his contributions and positive influence on family, church, friends and community.

Dortha L. Brody, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010
Dortha L. Brody, 84, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010 at her residence.
She was born July 17, 1926 in Chula, Mo., the daughter of Eberly and Anna (Shafer) Trumbo.
She graduated from Chula High School in 1944. She worked at Wilcox Electrical until she retired.
She is survived by a foster niece and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Stanley Trumbo, sister Wilma Horn and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. Friends may call from 12 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Animal Shelter.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo.

Ruby Grace Cain Proctor, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010
Ruby Grace Cain Proctor, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.
Ruby was born Dec. 9, 1925 in Black Oak Community near Braymer, Mo., to Edna Pearl (Phillips) Cain and Edward Eugene Cain. She married George Elton Proctor on Jan. 27, 1942 in Hardin, Mo. To this union four children were born, Ruth Anne, Steven Lee, Thomas Bruce and Sally Jean. George and Ruby lived their entire married lives in Braymer, except for a year spent in California from 1942 to 1943.
She worked at the Golden Age Nursing Home and she was a member of the Braymer Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Ruth Anne, Concordia, Kan., Steve, Independence, Mo., and Sally Proctor, Warrensburg, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; as well as several nieces and nephews and special nieces and a special grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Tommy; parents; parents-in-law, Ralph and Pauline Proctor; brother, Jim Cain; sisters, Dot Foreman and Shark Barnard; brother-in-law, Bob Proctor; and sister-in-law, Sis Proctor.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Braymer, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 from 12 to 8 p.m. at Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery, Braymer, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Braymer, and may be left at Pitts Funeral Home or mailed to P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
