Shirley Peck
Shirley H. Peck Shirley Hedrick Peck, daughter of the late Ralph Owen Jones and Ida Mae Wagner Hicks, was born on March 19, 1937 at Malden and died at her residence in Malden on Sept. 27, 2001, at the age of 64. Mrs. Peck was a homemaker and a resident of Malden. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Hedrick of Jackson, Miss. and Stacey Scott Hedrick of Flint, Mich.; by one daughter, Debra Jean Gipson of Clio, Mich.; by one brother, Rev. Billy Ralph Jones of St. Peters; by one sister, Nina Ott of Dexter; by 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Jones; and one sister, Dorise Jones. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel on Monday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Beulah Shell
Beulah Shell Beulah Shell of Advance, the daughter of the late Jim and Willie Shell, was born on Feb. 20, 1907 at Dongola, and died Sept. 27, 2001, at the Advance Nursing Center at the age of 94. She was a homemaker and a member of the Zalma Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Lambert of Advance and Hettie Baker of St. Charles. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 12 - 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the Morgan Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dale Fish officiating. Interment will be in the Collins Cemetery near Zalma with Morgan Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Russell DeVore
Russell Clay DeVore of Bradenton, Fla. was born Aug. 4, 1935 and died at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Brandenton on Oct. 30, 2001, at the age of 66. Mr. DeVore was a retired vending operator for Vendomatic Sales Company, Inc. in Dexter, a member of 10th Street Baptist Church in Palmetto, Fla., was past president of Three Rivers Shrine Club in Poplar Bluff, was a member of Dexter Elks Lodge and a member of Sahib Shrine Temple in Sarasota. He moved to Manatee County from Dexter 1-1/2 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Shirley DeVore of the home; by three sons, Russell L. DeVore of Dexter, William Stacy DeVore of Doniphan and William D. Grimm of Dexter; by two daughters, Sabrena Ryan of Gatewood and Kelly Grim of Dexter; by one sister, Elva DeVore of Covington, Ga.; and by 13 grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, Fla. on Friday, Nov. 2 from 12 - 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Tabor officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Baptist Cemetery in Myakka City, Fla. with Griffith-Cline Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Rudy V. Taylor
Rudy Vallee Taylor, son of the late Bayless Taylor, Sr. and Alma Montgomery Taylor, was born on June 12, 1934 at Jacksonville, Ark., and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on October 29, 2001, at the age of 67. Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist faith and a resident of Dexter. Survivors include his brother and sister in law, Bayless Taylor, Jr., and Mary Taylor of Dudley; by his extended family, Floyd and Phyllis Edwards family and Leroy Green; and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jene Taylor. Friends may call at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Frank Bain officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery. Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge off all arrangements.
Verna Cruse
Verna Mae Cruse, the daughter of the late Tom and Florence Wills Miller, was born in Rockview, Mo. on March 19, 1912, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 28, 2001, at the age of 89. Mrs. Cruse had resided in Essex and Gray Ridge most of her life. She moved to Dexter in 1993 and to Bloomfield one year ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. On July 7, 1927, she was married to Charles A. Cruse in Benton. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1973. Surviving are one son: Norman Cruse of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dallas Miller of Cape Girardeau, and J.D. Schatz of Springfield; one sister, Dorothy Burns of Evansville, Ind. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry, Jackie and Millard Cruse. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Oct. 31, after 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Watkins and Sons Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Effie Reese
Effie Parrott Reese, the daughter of William Byron and Myrtle Whitledge Parrott, was born in Stoddard County July 6, 1919, and died Oct. 28, 2001, in Tyler, Texas at the age of 82. Mrs. Reese was a caterer for the First Presbyterian Church in Tyler and was a member of First Baptist Church, was employed by General Electric and was retired from East Texas Medical Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Portia Ellis Dale; and her great-grandson, Richard Bond Darnell. She is survived by two sons, Jim Reese of Gladewater and Glenn Reese of Tyler; one daughter, Sue Love, of Tyler; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:30 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Dr. Michael D. Dent officiating. Interment will be held in the Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery, with Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors of Tyler, Texas in charge of all arrangements.
Dora Causey
Dora Lee Lawrence Causey, the daughter of the late Leo E. and Nellie Huber Lawrence, was born in Poplar Bluff on Sept. 5, 1926 and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on March 10, 2002, at the age of 75. Mrs. Causey was a homemaker and had lived in Essex most of her life. She attended the Church of Christ in Essex. On Jan. 13, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Marvin Causey in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Glynda McNair of Mountain Home, Ark. and Nola Thomason of Bernie; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Garnett Shirley Hannen of Forest Grove, Ore. and Edith Ellen Cooley of Mt. Dora, Fla. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, George Wayne, Charles Oliver, Clyde Leo, Albert Burnett, James Russell, and Elmer Paul Lawrence; and by two sisters, Carma Lucille Gaines and Oleta Colleen Thurston. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, March 13 after 12 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. with Bro. Herman Morse of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Raymond D. Wilson
Raymond D. Wilson, son of the late Ezra Wilson and Rosa Griffin Wilson, was born on Aug. 1, 1924 at Chaffee and died in the Beverly Health Rehabilitation Center in Bloomfield on Oct. 28, 2001, at the age of 77. Mr. Wilson was a resident of Bloomfield. He is survived by one brother, Leslie Wilson of Dexter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Wilson. A memorial service was held at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center at Bloomfield on Monday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Cotus James officiating. Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
