Trentice Burt

Trentice "T-Bird" Burt, son of Florence Chadwell Walker and the late William E. Burt, was born in St. Louis on Sept. 16, 1933, and died at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Naptune, N.J., on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the age of 69. Mr. Burt owned and operated a leather shop in Wall, N.J. A motorcycle enthusiast, he was a member of the Jersey Shore Points Motorcycle Club. Survivors include his mother, Florence Chadwell Walker of Wall, N.J.; two sons, Timothy Burt of Toms River, N.J., and Michael Burt of Brick, N.J.; two daughters, Shawn Dalton and Maureen Laffen, both of Toms River, N.J.; and 12 grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at the Bernie Cemetery. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie is in charge of arrangements.

Russell Dodd

Russell L. Dodd, son of the late John Dodd and Pauline Queffenne Dodd, was born on April 1, 1909 at Dexter and died in the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff on Jan. 12, 2002, at the age of 92. Mr. Dodd was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, a retired employee of Elder Manufacturing Company in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Edith Parrish on April 2, 1929 at Bloomfield. Mrs. Dodd preceded him in death on June 21, 1993. Mr. Dodd is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Dodd of the home in Dexter. Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 14 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted, today, Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Lola Henson

Lola Henson, the daughter of the late Homer and Irene Shepard Lewis, was born in Advance on April 8, 1935, and died at her home in Bloomfield on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 67. Mrs. Henson had lived in the Bloomfield area all of her life. She was a homemaker and attended the Pentecostal Church. On Dec. 20, 1950, she was married to Pete Henson in Bloomfield, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1983. Surviving are three sons, Danny Henson of Aquilla, William Henson of Essex, and Harold Henson of Bloomfield; three daughters, Ruth Bess and Barbara Grim, both of Bloomfield, and Linda McLeary of Zalma; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Frank Lewis of Sikeston, Emmett Lewis of Russell, Ky., Everett Lewis of Texas, and Melvin Lewis of Dexter; and four sisters, Ann Harp and Blanch Sturgons, both of Sikeston, Carolyn Patterson of Aquilla, and Wilma Haley of Charleston. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James Aaron Dean Henson on Sept. 1, 1991, and one grandson. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Bill Bradley of Charleston assisting. Interment followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Doris Adams

Doris Mae Abernathy Adams of Malden, the daughter of Sarah Wilson Carl and the late Charley Carl of Harviell, was born June 17, 1938 at Poplar Bluff and died at the Crowley Ridge Nursing Center in Dexter on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the age of 63. Mrs. Adams was affiliated with the Voice of Zion Church in Malden. Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Vera Abernathy and Brenda Goodman, both of Malden; by two sons, John Thomas Abernathy and Clifton Dale Abernathy, both of Malden; by three sisters, Lois Cross of Dexter, Virginia Gray and Vivian Crosby, both of Poplar Bluff; by two half-brothers, Billy Thurston of Poplar Bluff and Robert Thurston of Harviell; by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Carl, Vernon Edward Carl and Marvin Carl. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden beginning at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Karen Oldham officiating. Interment will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden in charge of arrangements.

Connie Ray Belt

Connie Ray Belt, the son of Winona Belt and the late Russell Belt, was born in Campbell on Dec. 4, 1943 and died at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff on Jan. 13, 2002, at the age of 58. Mr. Belt had lived in St. Louis for many years and moved to Dexter four years ago. He was a member of the American Legion and had served in the United States Air Force. On Nov. 17, 2001, he was united in marriage to Barbara Scott in Dexter, she survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Randy Belt of St. Louis; by one daughter, Jody Belt of Mexico, Mo.; by nine grandchildren; by three step-sons, Jimmy Payne of Dexter, Kenneth Payne of Blytheville, Ark. and Larry Payne of Fulton; and by one step-daughter, Rhonda White of Sikeston. Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 14 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted, today, Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Masters

Bobby G. Masters, 64, the son of the late Jesse and Ethel Sullivan Masters, was born on June 11, 1938, at Portageville and died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Anna Henry Nursing Home in Edwardsville, Ill. He was a maintenance mechanic with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for 31 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Wood River congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and a veteran of the U.S. Army. On March 21, 1964, he was married to Evelyn "Wanda" Berrong, at Wood River, Ill., and she survives of the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Carol Bickman of Wood River, Ill.; one son, Michael Masters of Decatur, Ill.; one sister, Dorothy Norman of Advance; one brother, Ray Masters of Godfrey. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Ill. Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Marks Mortuary with Mr. Tom Geisen officiating. Interment followed at Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy with a committal service at 1:30 p.m.

Geraldine "Neeley" Caldwell

Geraldine "Neeley" Caldwell, daughter of the late William Frank Kelly and Hettie Rosetta Pruett Kelly, was born on Oct. 3, 1925 at Senath and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on March 11, 2002, at the age of 76. Mrs. Caldwell attended the Oneness Pentecostal Church of Dexter, was a homemaker and a resident of Bernie. She was first united in marriage to Gene Neeley, who preceded her in death. She then married Ellis Caldwell and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1982. Survivors include six sons, Johnny Wayne Bruce of Atlanta, Ga., Frankie Bruce of Edwards, Miss., Ernest Neeley of Bernie, Hubert Neeley and Richard Neeley, both of Dexter, and Ronnie Neeley of Bernie; four daughters, Dianna Gramlich of Greenville, Jerry Lynn of Kennett, Flossie Ellis of Aztec, N.M. and Rosalee Miller of Puxico; five step-sons, Everett Neeley, Ralph Neeley, Leon Neeley, Wayne Neeley and Bud Neeley; two step-daughters, Louise Neeley and Pat Neeley; one brother, Jay Kelly of New York, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Homer Gene Neeley; and by three sisters, Ann Manning, Macella Beanard and Nancy Kelly. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 13. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 14 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery in rural Clarkton with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.

Helen Phillips

Helen Phillips, daughter of the late Francis McCain and Beaulah Strobel McCain, was born April 20, 1928 at Frankfort, Ill. and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Jan. 11, 2002, at the age of 73. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Mt. Pisgah Church near Bloomfield, a former employee of Elder Manufacturing in Bloomfield, the former owner of the Hornet's Nest Restaurant in Advance and a resident of Bloomfield. She was united in marriage to Orin Phillips on July 19, 1944 at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Phillips preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Kay White of Bloomfield and Judy Kirby of Dexter; one brother, James McCain of Advance; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Phillips and by one sister, LaWanda McCain. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 3:30 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bloomfield with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
