Bob L. Hartline

Robert L. 'Bob' Hartline, son of the late Fred A. Hartline and Irene Francis Hartline, was born on Jan. 12, 1927, at Bernie, Mo., and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Aug. 2, 2002, at the age of 75. Mr. Hartline was affiliated with the Second General Baptist church in Dexter, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, a retired truck driver with Railway Express in Pontiac, Mich., a former resident of Pontiac, Mich, and Dexter, currently residing in Puxico. Survivors include one son, Shawn Hensley of Royal Oak, Mich.; four brothers, Jerry Hartline of Hemet, Calif., Bruce Hartline of Puxico; Harold Hartline and John Hartline, both of Dexter; three sisters, Charlotte Irish of Moscow Mills, Mo., Barbara Putney of Mt. Morris, Mich., and Patsy Franklin of Montrose, Mich.; and four grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Lee; and by two sisters, Mary Hartline and Diana Low. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Phil Warren officiating. Interment followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery near Dexter.

Eddy Miller

George Edward 'Eddy' Miller, son of Freda Mason Miller of Dexter and the late Charles Edward Miller, was born on Aug. 6, 1939, at Essex and died at his residence near Essex on Aug. 6, 2002, at the age of 63. Mr. Miller was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, a farmer until ill health forced his retirement in 1987, and a resident of rural Essex. He was united in marriage to Thresa Jackson on Nov. 7, 1959, at Essex, and to this union two children were born. Mrs. Miller survives of the home near Essex. He is survived by one son, Todd Miller of Essex; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Carles Molloy of Essex; one grandson, Devin Miller; his mother, Freda Miller of Dexter; two brothers, Tommy Miller of Essex, and Dale Miller of Kansas City, Mo.; his father-in-law, Bob Jackson of Essex. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs and Rev. Everett Hessling officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Beverly Ann 'Sue' Durham

Beverly Ann 'Sue' Durham, daughter of the late John Randolph Durham and Nora Ogelvie Durham, was born on Oct. 15, 1946, at Bernie and died in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on Aug. 12, 2002, at the age of 55. Ms. Durham was employed by Arvin Automotive of Dexter and was a resident of Dexter. Survivors include three brothers, Junior Durham of Dexter, William Frederick Durham of Murphysboro, Ill., and Larry Dewayne Durham of Taft, Calif.; two sisters, Loretta Jean Conder of Pekin, Ill., and Anice Nell Cox of Peoria, Ill. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Durham and by one sister, Janice Dell Durham. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

Mildred Pierce

Mildred H. Pierce, the daughter of the late Homer and Beatrice Rickles Hazel, was born in Birmingham, Ala., on April 7, 1929, and died at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis on Aug. 10, 2002, at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Pierce was a resident of St. Louis before moving to Dexter in 1958 and worked as supervisor of Elder Outlet Store Operations and later was the owner-operator of the Dexter Cleaners as well as employed by the Dexter Daily Statesman. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter. On Sept. 14, 1951, she was married to William L. Pierce in Panama City, Fla. Surviving are her husband William L. Pierce of Dexter; one son and daughter-in-law William Mark and Lynette Pierce of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and James Whiteman of Warrensburg, Mo., Marsha and William Hussey of Florissant, and Pamela and Russell Brown of Jackson; three grandchildren, Paige and Allie Brown and Will Thomas Pierce; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Tommy and Mabel Hazel of Camilla, Ga., and Norman Hazel of Marianna, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Carmel and Lloyd Rogers of Tucson, Ariz. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Joan Swanson of The First Presbyterian Church in Dexter and Stephen Moody of Clarkton officiating. Interment followed in the Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape County with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Leon Smothers

Leon Smothers, son of the late Marian Johns Smothers and Grettia Parker Smothers was born on March 19, 1913 at Fisk and died in his residence near Dexter on Aug. 1, 2002 at the age of 89. Mr. Smothers was a former ranch hand, a maintenance worker at the county court house in Baker City, Or., a former resident of Baker City, currently residing in Dexter. He was united in marriage to Clydia Ego on Aug. 2, 1953 in Oregon. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1998. Survivors include two brothers, Edward 'Bus' Smothers, of Dexter and Bill Smothers of Florissant; two sisters, Lucille Quinn, of Aurora and Helen 'Tudy' Smothers of Florissant; by several nieces and nephews. Aside from his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elvin Smothers; by three sisters, Madge Smothers, Mary Ruth Christ and Adele Crabtree. Friends may call at the Gray's West and Company Pioneer Chapel in Baker City, Or., Monday, August 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Graveside services will then be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Baker City, Or., with Pastor Roger Scovil officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Lawrence E. 'Gene' Williams

Lawrence Eugene 'Gene' Williams, the son of the late Lawrence Dave and Eula Smith Williams was born at Advance, on January 13, 1933 and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, August 13, 2002 at the age of 69. He formerly lived in Advance and in St. Louis for many years where he was a supervisor at Combustion Engineering in St. Louis. He moved to Dexter in 1982. He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dexter. May 22, 1954 he was married to Frankie Prichard. She preceded him in death June 1, 2002. Surviving are two sons and daughters in law, Michael and Kristi Williams, of Dexter; Steve and Diane Williams, of Florissant; three grandsons, Jacob Williams, of Dexter; Thomas and Jonathan Williams, of Florissant; five sisters, Georgia Robbins, of Sullivan; Betty Nettler, of Advance; Lois Arsta, of Columbia; Reta VanMatre, of Dexter; and Sandra Smith, of Clarkton. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death, James and Johnny Williams and Anna Robins. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Friends may call at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m., Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel Sunday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Fred Leist of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery at Dexter.

Barney J. Brunetti

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Barney J. Brunetti, age 79, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at the Missouri Veteran Home of Warrensburg.
He was born in Roseland, Kansas, on August 24, 1927, and the son of Barney and Letha (Jeffries) Brunetti.
Mr. Brunetti was a 1945 graduate of the West Mineral High School in Kansas and a World War II veteran serving from October 1945 to November 1946 in the U. S. Army.
He married Marty Helm 47 years ago on December 12, 1958, in Lees Summit, Missouri. She survives of the home.
Mr. Brunetti worked most of his life as a Heavy equipment Mechanic for J. A. Tolin Construction Company in Kansas City, Kansas.
He is also survived by two daughters, Carolyn Gulley of St. Petersburg, Florida and Peggy Cotter of Grandview, Missouri; a son, Steven Brayley of Independence, Missouri; a brother Larry Brunetti of Odessa, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Brunetti is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Bonnie Gergen; and a son, David Brayley.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2006, at the Missouri Veteran Cemetery in Higginsville.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

James Talley

James Dale Talley, 48, of Advance died Aug. 2, 2002, at his home. He was born July 30, 1954, the son of Merlene Rea Hill and the late August Talley. Mr. Talley was a painter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his mother, Merlene Hill of Advance; three sons, Jeremy Talley of Farmington, Jody Talley of Brownwood, and Travis Talley of Advance; one daughter, April Robinson of California; five brothers, Sammy Talley of Cape Girardeau, Kenny Talley of Brownwood, Texas, Tooter Talley of Dexter, Terry Sparkman of Sikeston, and Michael Sparkman of Brownwood; one sister, Cindy Umfleet of Brownwood; and one grandchild. Visitation will be held from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel of Advance. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Rev. J.D. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy.
Suzanne Elizabeth “Sue” Keaton
Suzanne Elizabeth Keaton “Sue”, age 69, of Waynesville MO, passed away on Friday, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO, May 2, 2014. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Theodore Nelson, and Ella Jane West.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years Command Sergent Major, Curtis, United States Army Retired; son, Carmen and daughter-in-law Vonshel of St. Roberts, MO; brothers, Ronald of Shirley, MA; Lester and sister-in-law Beverly of Virginia Beach, VA; Alonzo and Jeffery of Springfield, MO; and sister, Cynthia and brother-in-law Aaron of Springfield, MO; great grandchildren Tiquez, Tirek Jr; Tyana of Waynesville, MO; sisters-in-law, Ora of Cleveland, MS and Lula of Renova, MS; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Darlene of Indianapolis, IN; mother-in-law, Lula of Milwaukee, WS; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends all of whom are special in her heart.
Sue was always active in the military community working in the dining facility as a military spouse while her husband served in the United States Army for 30 years, stationed in Germany, Massachusetts, and Missouri.
Sue was born in McKeesport, PA on November 3, 1945 and was raised in Clairton, PA. At the age of 13 years old she moved to Farrell, PA. In her early years, Sue was a member of the Girl Scouts, Troop 232. In addition, she was a devoted Sunday school teacher and choir member singing alongside her grandmother in the Church Of God in Christ.
In 1963 Sue moved to Fitchburg, MA and was employed by Asher Trouser for 20 years where she served as Union Stewart. Sue was employed with R6 School transportation most recently.
On March 20, 1970 Sue married the love of her life, Curtis Keaton. In addition to raising their son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Sue and Curtis provided a home for numerous family members.
In her spare time, Sue enjoyed spending time with family, shopping, and music. Sue was also an excellent cook and spent countless holidays and special occasions preparing a good meal for her family. Sue will be remembered for “humming a tune” and sharing her wisdom.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in the Grace Covenant Christian Center of Waynesville, MO. Burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Leonard Wood. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Suzanne Keaton and may be left at the funeral home.
